I purchased PE9 and inside the box cover they show that you can take two picture

Here is another approach to "open" a closed eye for example.
Use the lasso to roughly select the good eye.
Feather the selection a few pixels to soften the edges.
Copy and paste the selection to a new layer.
Flip the layer horizontally.
Use the Move tool with arrow keys to position the copy eye over the closed eye.
If some of the edges are visible (maybe due to not enough feathering) you can remove these with the Eraser tool and a soft brush.
This method of course can be used to copy eyes between pictures. In this case resizing of the eye layer might be needed.
Also it works well for things like camera flash on just one of the subject's eyeglass lens.

We recorded a 1080i50 signal that was switched on a Black Magic ATEM switcher on a Atomos recorder.
When importing this file in FCP all seems fine,.. but after exporting it.. these strange pictures appeare at some random moments in the export.
Work around is to preview file in quicktime.. where this phenomenon is viewable... and then take out those frames that are corrupt.

Hello Tom,
We recorded the feed in Apple Prores HD. During recording ( and live switching ) none of these phenomenon were visible. After viewing file in quicktime before editing... or after viewing FCP export in quicktime... it's visible.
We use three cams that are set to 1080i50
2x Sony pmw 350
1x Sony Ex1
Videofeeds are fed to Black Magic Design ATEM switcher. TVS.
2x BM ATEM TVS sends feed to livestream encoder and to Atomos Ninja 2 and Atomos Samurai recorder, recording in Apple Prores HQ. ( all switchers and recorders are tested with several versions of software )
The HDD's with the recordings are transfered to a few relative new Apple iMac's with FCP.
Is this phenomenon also artifacts or is there an other name for it?

When connecting the two recorders to one source switcher... this phenomenon appears in both recordings...at exactely the same time.....

then what about the color tone here? it's very pure and clean, a touch of blue i think, is it from the nature light or from photoshop effect?
The colour tone is (hopefully) a result of the nature of the natural light faithfully reproduced by the high quality of the camera (and film if relevant).
You will get quite different and sometimes rapidly changing tones of colour depending on the natural light; this is different for different times of day, different directions, different weather conditions.
Just to mention a few comparisons, the warm light from the setting sun is quite different from the cool light from the clear bright sky through a (high) window to the north at noon, and the light of the sun can be changed immensely by the huge white (or grey) filter sometimes applied to (parts of) the sky.
You may do many things in Photoshop, but photography is still an art form, not just cheating, at least for some.
I believe one of the real provings of cameras/films is the ability to reproduce the delicate but profoundly different tinges in snow on a clear day.

It has multiple columns that change size with the browser. It also "floats"? as in you can see the boxes slide apart slightly when the browser size is changed.

Various terms have been used over the years: liquid, fluid and elastic page design spring to mind.
You'll find hundreds of tutorials if you search with those keywords.
This kind of page layout was widely used a decade ago when nested tables, specified with % widths, were all the rage. CSS was in its infancy back then.
Today's CSS driven layouts tend to lend themselves more to fixed width page layout.

Can't locate a replacement part - what is this thing called exactly?

Well, my laptop started refusing to accept a charge, and so as the last remaining battery life died out I quick turned it off and handed it to my father in law to diagnose - he's good with computers and electronics. After a few days he narrowed the problem down to what resembles a dc-in board - it wouldn't carry electricity anymore.
Basically, I need to find a replacement for this part so I can start using my laptop again. I've scoured the internet using as many keywords as I can think of, but strangely can only find things that vaguely resemble what I need.
Can anybody help pinpoint what this board is, so I can find a replacement? Thank you so much.

From my research, I have come to the conclusion that the part in the picture is called a "DC-In Board". I believe that this is what it is officially called, but I am not 100% positive. I gave it my best shot considering you didn't specify the exact PowerBook model in your post. I assume that this part differers from model to model. I will be able to be more exact when I know the exact model. I hope this helps and gets you a step closer to being up and running again.

Defining when to charge the battery - what is this option called?

I am owning a T500 and I can decide at which percentage my battery should start being charged and when it should end.
Now other people are asking me if this is a particular feature of my model or if every new ThinkPad has this.
Does anyone know the answer - is this a feature of every ThinkPad or maybe even of every new Lenovo-Laptop.

You need to switch to advanced mode to access the battery settings. After that click on the tab call battery, and there you can see a button call battery maintenance...
Go there and you can modify what you want.

I want to buy this "thing", but I've no idea what it's called! I've tried Googling any number of search terms, but no luck:)
It's basically similar to a surge protector, but it retains a few minutes charge, so in the event of a power cut your computer doesn't suddenly switch off, and you've got a few minutes to save your work and shut down properly. I' m just curious about this gradation effect's name, and how to create it in Photoshop.

Chuck is on the right path. You can construct this with the Filter> Pixelate> Color Halftone..., but then you have to go further.
The pattern is made of two sections of the same halftone channel, one rotated 180 degrees and horizontally offset.
Basic outline:
1. create a linear gradient (you can work in color or black/white)
2. Filter> Pixelate> Color Halftone... use a large radius value for bigger circles, and set the channels to 0 or 90
3. after the filter has run, go to the Channels panel and find a transition in one of the channels that you like
4. Cmd/Ctrl click on the thumbnail of the channel to make a selection
5. go back to the Layer panel and turn off the background layer with the full haltone filter effert.
5. create a new layer, and fill it with a color (you want the dots to fill so invert the selection if needed)
6. create another layer and fill it with a second color
7. rotate the layer from step 6 180 degrees, and move it so the same size circles in the middle of you doc overlap. Now offset horizontally so the center point of circles lies halfway between the layer created in step 5.
8. now marquee a selction that goes approximately half of the doc and create masks for both layers.
9. Invert one fo the masks so that what you see is small dots of one color increasing to the center, and the second color decreasing back t the edge
10 create a third layer and fill it with one of the color and drag copy the mask from the dot pattern layer of the opposite color. Drag this layer in stack order to just above the background layer.
11. create a fourth layer filled with the opposite color of the step 11 layer. Drag this layer in stack order just below the layer you created in step 10.
12. Now (there's surely some math that makes this more accurate but I was just eyeballing it), move the top layer with the mask linked down so it is below the other offset centers by ~60-70 %. Unlink the mask and move it back so more of the dot is exposed and starts to show when it will intersect with the other layer.
13. Do the same mask movement with the second color dot layer so more of that layer's circle shows, until each dots tangents match up.

What is this "feature"?

Because it is driving me nuts, and I need to turn it off. Sometimes when I click the wrong way on an item, the page greys out and I see something that says Group with an arrow up a the top of the page in a bar. If I click the arrow, it goes out of that mode and back to my page. What is that supposed to be doing, and how do I turn it off?

That is isolate mode. and occurs when you doble click on a group of objects, that is for editing individual objects without ungrouping, you can leave this mode by clicking anywhere on the artboard or clickin on the arrow next to text group.
You can disable on the preferences panel, see picture, but may be you can learn about exactly how it works and you'll find usefull in some ocations.
