I am in the process of moving pictures off my PC to my Mac. I am using a USB Memory Stick. Each time I move pictures a file also appears in the folder "thumbs.db" With an ICON View, its a gray box with the word 'exec' inside. Right clicking for info, I see the following response;

What is this file, can it be sent to trash or ???
Thank You

    Hello Junez,
The coherence-client.xml is for the Data Client.
The coherence-rtc.xml is for the Real Time Client.
Please take a look at the following page for more information and let me know if you have anymore questions.

  • What is this file and why can't I do anything with it?

I found this file in All my Files today and it's bugging me a bit. It seems to be a Pixelmator file with the same creation date as the file before with, giving me the impression they're linked somehow. The mystery file, however, doesn't have a location, is bigger than the other file (247 KB compared to 161 KB) and can't be opened.
Does anyone know what it is and how I can remove it?

It's an entry in the Spotlight index, not a file.
Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Spotlight ▹ Privacy. The list of items excluded from Spotlight indexing is shown (it may be empty.) Click the plus (+) icon to add an item to the list. Select your boot volume (under DEVICES) and add it to the list. Then remove it from the list by selecting it and clicking the minus (-) icon.
Spotlight will rebuild the index. If you try to do a Spotlight search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, a pulsing dot will appear in the icon. When the dot disappears, the indexing is complete. Try the search again.

  • What is this file in my plugins directory?

hello, brand new mac user here
listed under /Library/Internet Plug-Ins is this file:
    nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
which under 'kind' it's listed as document... it's a mere 2KB in size and was last modified in the late evening when i first got my mac (mini) when i was updating and seting up all my stuff
does anyone know exactly what it is?
call me paranoid, but i find that file highly suspicious!
    tia

some digging up shows a little more information about this file:
Note: A bug in the current version of Netscape 6 for Mac OS X causes it not to see the QuickTime plug-in unless a file is copied from the OS X Internet Plugins folder to the Netscape 6 components folder. The file is"nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt" and the NS6 components folder is usually: /Applications/Mozilla1.0/Mozilla1.0.app/Contents/MacOS/Components/ After the file is copied, Netscape 6 must be told to refresh its components list. This can be done either by deleting the xpti.dat file and restarting Netscape, or by issuing the JavaScript command: navigator.plugins.refresh().
from an old copy of the developer.apple.com documentation stored on the wayback machine at
    http://web.archive.org/web/20080830022454/http://developer.apple.com/documentati on/QuickTime/QT6WhatsNew/Chap1/chapter_1_section_57.html
now if that's accurate and it's something to do with netscape why in the world do i have this? i haven't installed anything asides from upgrades and mavericks on that date mentioned in the OP
i'm using safari... as for netscape, wow haven't touched that thing in a very long time

  • JDMPJDKVersion.xml - What is this file?

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to install Portal 640 on Windows NT with Oracle/Java system.  On the installation screens just after I define type of installation, the install falls over with an error message saying:-
    \JDMP\JDKVersion.xml should be defined.
This file does not exist on my system in the JDMP folder.  How does it get created and why isnt it there?  Can I put in there myself with some xml inside?
I have a feeling this is related to Java.  I have installed j2sdk1.4.2_15 and set this as JAVA_HOME and included it in the PATH system variable.  What else can I try?
    Thank you.

OK - this was all my fault!
When I copied the installation disks to the remote server I didnt pick up the system files that Windows Explorer was hiding from me!

  • Fixed: Slow Snow Leopard. What was this file for?

    Hi,
I just bought a new iMac on Monday. It's supposed to be the newest and best technology... blah blah blah blah blah.
Anyhow, it worked great for a few days, and then last night it began slowing down to the point where nothing was functional. A simple reboot helped very little, and I became very frustrated.
I ended up finding some guys blog about Macs, and he deleted this file to fix his Snow Leopard problems:
    System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist
Having no other choice but to wait for an update from Apple, I deleted the same file. I rebooted my computer, and it was like magic. The computer is faster then ever, and very enjoyable to use. So, my question is: what is the world is that for for? It used like 1.40-1.80 GB of RAM...
    Thanks for the help!

    K T wrote:
Core audio is the software side of digital audio on your computer. That plist is the destructible file related to settings. If you get rid of it, the system builds a fresh one.
no, it doesn't. none of the items in /system/library/launchdaemons are automatically rebuilt on deletion. if you delete something from there it's gone for good. these are necessary system daemons and deleting them can make system inoperable or cripple it. I'm not quite sure what this one does. googling indicates that it is responsible for a number of audio functions like system sounds and keeping volume settings on restarts. I've seen a number of posts recommending deleting it as a possible workaround for some slowdown issues but I would not do that with this or any other system launch daemon. as is aid, this may cripple some system functions and the file will not be recreated by the system if you want it back. if you want to disable it as a troubleshooting step you can do it without deleting the file. run the following terminal command
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist
this will make the daemon inactive without deleting the file. and it will remain inactive even on restarts. if you want to activate it change unload to load in the above command.

Now as you can see the only file mentioned is the com.apple.iokit.IOStorageFamily , is this file indicating that there is something wrong with the Harddisk or its driver/firmware ???
What is the com.apple.iokit.IOStorageFamily doing ?
I am not asking for a solution I just want to know what my computer is complaining about.
I have a ibook g4 1.2 GHz 12", 512 Mb ram , No programs installed only Mac OSX 10.4.6 , no external devices, no peripherals, using airport.

OS X doesnt seem to like your hard drive. I took this gem from the developer pages
...the I/O Kit, an object-oriented driver development framework emphasizing modularity and reusability.
In Mac OS X, a driver for a mass storage device that mounts a file system or is bootable is a kernel
extension, or KEXT. This KEXT inherits much of its functionality from an I/O Kit family that
implements software abstractions common to all devices of a particular type.

  • ArcPStudioSN.reg - what's this file ?

My PB started eating up available space till got a warning too little disk space left - had only ca 50 MB.
This happened after I had taken iPod into use and installed a double system of iPhoto (5+6) - many of us know why.
I investigated discussions and found a (partial) explanation as I had as users to my disk in addition to myself also iPhoto, Acrobat et al, and there seemed to be unnecessary accumulation of cache data. Removed garageband and changed the user situation, but at the same time decided to get rid of Classic, as I am not using any applications related to it any more.
When removing Classic a file emerged into my Trash bin, which i cannot remove.
    It is called
    ArcPStudioSN.reg
and I have no clue where it would belong to. could it be part of a scanner program ?
It starts duplicating in my Trash, now I have 2 of them, and the system also backs it up as recovered file!
How do I get it fixed / out of the way ? Anybody out there recognises this file and its origins ?

Try my software Force Empty Trash:
    http://www.macmaps.com/software.html
    If that doesn't work, try
    http://www.macosxcocktail.com/
Note, the latter software is a bit of a swiss army knife of tools, and you should only use it for the tools recommended by an expert. I would try to free up at least 15% of the hard disk so you don't run into disk full issues in the future. See this user tip:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=122973&tstart=0
Also see this user tip on removing Classic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=461838&tstart=0
And no, I don't know why you need to keep iPhoto 5 and 6. Upgrading to iPhoto 6.0.2 has worked just fine for my iPod.

  • RadioWMPCoreGecko19.dll popped up in my download manager, the source file is Firefox.exe. What is this file?

Norton 360 popped up a "file insight" message related to a file that was downloaded to my PC. The source file was Firefox.exe, and the name of the file is RadioWMPCoreGecko19.dll
Some sites are reporting this file as malicious, but it seems to me that it is a plugin extension for firefox? Can you explain this file to me?
