What is this in the Trash?

After each restart I have a file in the Trash. The file is "\\\\\\\.\\\" If I try to delete it, copy, restore, view more info, it disappears. Anyone know what it is?
Also, it seems like my wireless stops working after is is gone.

It's the result of something trashed from Windows. It's not on your Mac which is why you cannot delete it.

  • What's this in the box?

I have a lovely new iPod. Just one stupid question so far: What is this thing in the box? The little white thing, looks like it's some sort of protector for the dock port? What am I to do with this?
    Thanks in advance!
ibook g3 now cadidate MBP owner plus a new color ipod!   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks Jeff but I don't think that's it.
It's not like a plug for a hole, it's about 4" x 3/4" and has a long hole in the middle. Looks like the ipod is meant to sit inside of it and have the cord plugged in but the ipod cannot stand up or lie flat in it. Perhaps it's some sort of adaptor, clicks into something, maybe that the old thicker ipod sat in but it does not fit in the dock of the old ipod, the new one sits in there just fine.
I'm stumped as to what it could be that Apple thought we were all going to need it.

  • What is this error: "The item is not on an edit frame boundary."?

I exported XML from one computer and imported into another and got the message: Final Cut Pro encountered an error importing the XML file.  The error log says: "The item is not on an edit frame boundary (durations+"80679599/3000000s": /fcpxml{1}/project{1} /clip[934]/video[1]/@duration).  What does this mean???? I searched discussions and found no mention of an error or anything else having to do with edit frame foundaries.
The library involved was copied to another computer, the project edited, and exported as XML back to the original computer.  With the above error message.  All the event clips came across fine, but the 4 projects that were in the Event did not import back to the original computer.
    Both computers:
    Mac OS 10.9.2
    FCPX 10.1.1
Source material in "Original" H.264 format.  Edit format is native format.
Does this mean I have to use all I frame format to use XML import/export??
    thanks
    Rick

    Hi,
I searched for the similar error log, the issue is finally solved by adding more drive space even though they though there is plenty space already.

Sorry, I believe you're out of luck ... unless ... you happen to have a backup from before the deletion.

  • HT2711 ry space available  and I am told my start up disc need repairing-I don't know how to do this-also the trash wont empty - HELP

I have a OS X 10.6.8 Mini Mac - I cannot empty my trash so went to Disk Repair and had a message that my start up disc need repairing - do not know how to do this - also I have a message saying my Start Up disc has no more Memory Spave available for application memory. HELP - I am not very computer literate so please use simple language, thanks

    One stage at a time!
    1. Can't empty trash:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1526?viewlocale=en_US
    2. Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
    Background information here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1147?viewlocale=en_US
    3. Lack of free space on your hard drive: if this drops below about 15GB you can run into problems like data corruption and general slowness.
How big is your hard drive, and how much free space do you actually have?

  • What does this mean: "the backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk?

Our time capsule isn't working...we keep getting the message: "The back up was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk."

This means you are probably not running snow leopard as your profile shows.
What OS are you running?? Mavericks.. is the most likely as it has the most network bugs.
    See Pondini.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
C3 .. but the error might have nothing to do with the real problem.. ie bad networking.
If your MBP has ethernet have you tried turning off wireless and attempting the backup by ethernet??
No luck give me more info.

    Hi, DickmoAZ.
