What is this invisible files??

Hey there
I've just switched to MacBook a couple of months ago and every day past I find more and more trouble that cant find anyone to answer it!!
1. What is there file ._FILENAME.EXT or ._TRASH or ._FLODERNAME ?? you won't see them in Mac OS nut when I put my thumb drive into windows they're there!! It appear even in my cell phone (which has function for MP3 player) I used to delete one on my cell phone and the song can't play!! I don't know what is these files. They are annoying and take up some spaces in my thumb drive
2. How can I empty trash only on my thumb drive without affecting trash of my hard drive??
Anyone with more exp. in use both Mac and Windows pls tell me, thank you

Some files on Mac OS consist of both data forks and resource forks. Windows, and other operating systems recognize them both as different files. What you're seeing is the resource fork.

  • What is this unknown file in Login Items: apple-scc-20130423-135229

My Login Items include a file of "unknown" type named "apple-scc-20130423-135229."  When I attempt to "reveal in Finder," it cannot be located.  I also have not been able to locate the file using 3rd party invisible file locator software.  I'm running Avast! antivirus software, which hasn't turned up any suspicious files.  Is it safe to remove this file from the Login Items?  I've seen similar posts on the site, but no resolution.  Can anyone help?

  • What is this "Recovered file" in Trash?

Every time I log-in there is a folder in the Trash called "Recovered Files" which contains a document titled "com.shirtpocket.lastVolumeList"
    What is this document?
Is it correct that it should be there at each log-in?
    Thanks for your help.
    John

in most cases Recovered files are nothing to worry about.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8982.html
they are just some temporary files that an application should have deleted itself when it quit but for some reason didn't. if it happens on every restart it may indicate that the app in question (in your case Superduper) has a problem although I seriously doubt it's the case here.

  • MAC OSX 10.9.5: What is this strange file format in the Open Dialog box?

    Hello all.
I'd never really noticed this, but I saw a rather unusual file format in the Open dialog box and was wondering why it appeared as it did. It appears as follows from the file/open dialog box:
To be completely transparent, I'd originally posted this image on my twitter feed to @illustrator. Since then I have been in communication with Scott but the advice has been to reinstall Illustrator. If this had happened on one machine, I'd be inclined to agree that this may do something, but since discovering this unusual format, i've since seen it on six macs running OS 10.9.5 and illustrator version 18.1.0 OR 18.1.1
Can anyone else confirm that they see the same thing; or if there is a difference, what this format is meant to actually be. I suspect this is a bug but need confirmation by other users.
    Colin

The error occurs on all machines I have tested. 5 of the machines have the suitcase fusion auto-activation plug-in, but one had no plug-ins at all. All software was installed literally "out of the box" from the creative cloud.
UPDATE - tested 3 more machines in the office all running 18.1.1 on OSX 10.9.5 and they ALL do the same thing, all installed with the suitcase fusion auto-activation plug-in, but otherwise installed "out of the box" from creative cloud.

  • What is this Restore File?

I just looked at the files in my PC's recycle bin, and found this file:
    iPhone2,13.1.3_7E18Restore.ipsw
    It was deleted 6/21/10
I have not done any kind of restore on the phone, and I have not yet attempted to update my 3Gs phone with the iOS4 update. I sync the iphone/itunes a couple times a week, but nothing else.
Can anybody tell me what this nearly 300 MB file is?

It would be the password you originally set up with the encrypted backup.  Did you ever have a passcode on your iPod Touch?  If so, you could try that as well.
Otherwise, if you do not know the password, I'm afraid you are out of luck and will need to restore to factory defaults and configure it as a new device.

  • What is this "recovered files"?

sometimes when I reboot.. or start the computer if it was off.. when it starts back up a file is in the trash named "recovered files". what is that and why is it there? the few times i've looked at it its always empty. is there any significance to it at all?

Hello, I am fairly new to Mac, only about a years experience, but I just got my mom a new iMac and ran into a similar problem with the iTunes library.
My mom and little sister are using the same computer and I set them up with different logins so they could each have their own desktop/prefs etc...but they wanted to have the same iTunes library so I had to put the library into a different spot than the normal "music" section. After a few days my little sister noticed it was difficult for her to navigate to the iTunes library folder to upload music to myspace etc. So I made an alias of the folder and put it into the "music" section on the Finders sidebar. After the next startup all the music was gone from iTunes, including her playlists. I paniced for a minute, but then realized the music was still there and just had to "add to library" to get it all back, no luck with the playlists though.
Long story short, maybe your music is still on your computer somewhere?
I'm still not sure why that happened though, can I not make an alias of a folder to keep elsewhere on the computer without the program "forgetting" where it is? I left the original folder in place.

  • What is the .aplibrary file?

Many thanks in advance for your attention.
i have backed up my Aperture Library mostly every time I add new photos - sometimes every few dayas - but every once in awhile - while this backup file is being created, another file is spontaneously created, named for example, "Aperture Library 11-2-2011.aplibrary."
It does not happen with each backup I do, but has happened a few times now, maybe every 3-4 backups?
What is this additional file - .aplibrary? Do I need it and do I need to back them up as well for Aperture to work smoothly?

    Hi moonlightcaravoan,
to my knowledge  *.aplibrary stands for  Aperture pictures library database file. As this suggests it is used to store images in single database. It is actually not just a simple file but a package containing several subfolders. You should be able to verify that by just right-klicking on the aplibrary element in the Finder and select "show package contents". This should however just serve for your information. The contents of the subfolders should not be changed and it is not supposed to access single image files within these folders.
To my understanding the *.aplibrary file(s) - there may be several, depending on how any you create within Aperture - are essential for your backups.
I hope my answer is helpful.

  • "What's This Help" import problem

Hi, I am updating my program to be compatible with Windows Vista. I had been using my old help file made in a prior version of Robohelp until now.
Now that my users are using vista, that help won't work. So I made a .chm file for the online help, and when the user selects File/Help, the help file shows. However, I haven't a second help file that is my context sensitive help. (What's This Help).  I tried to import it and received an error.  So I created a new What's this help file associated with my RoboHelp Html online help, made one test topic, and now I can access the online help and the ? help for that one test using .chm file.  However, I do not want to have to re-enter the thousands of context sensitive help topics!  I noticed that my old file saved the "What's This help" topics in an .rtf file and the new one saves the info in a context.txt.  Is there a way to convert the old .rtf to a context.txt or an easy way to get my data in?
    Thank you!!

    Hi there
Are you sure you aren't confusing What's This help with regular Context Sensitive Help?
For What's This help, you typically have a Text file. What's This is presented as simple text when clicking the Question Mark, followed by the object in question. As shown below:

  • Is this a bug? Invisible file on timeline?

I have a file laid out on the timeline and another file next to it. However, the first file cuts to this other file then cuts back to itself with nothing above or below it on the timeline. It's like there's a file that is invisible and can't be moved on the timeline that it keep cutting to. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

I'd try rendering again (maybe after removing the existing render files), or as a second possibility I'd try trashing preferences.

So I have a file on my desktop and I cannot open it, move it to a folder, or delete it from my mac. I dont know what it has in it, and that makes me suspicious. What can I do to remove this unremovable file from my computer? Is it a virus?

First, I would recommend repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility.
If that doesn't fix the problem, there's a very dangerous command you can execute in the Terminal.  This is very hazardous, because a simple typo can result in very drastic consequences.  I have seen people erase their entire hard drive by putting a space in the wrong place!  So, please follow the directions I'm going to give you very carefully!
Open the Terminal, which is found in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.  In the Terminal, enter the following:
    sudo rm -f
Make sure to put a space after the "-f"!  Then, drag the troublesome file from the Finder and drop it on the Terminal window.  That should insert the path to the file in the command.  Then go back to the Terminal and press return.  You will be asked for your password, and when you type it, nothing will be shown as a security measure.  Press return again after entering your password.  The file should be deleted.

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues, obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

  • What does this message mean? "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"

What does this message mean? "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"  I get this when I try to repair permissions in disk utility.

It's an innocuous error you can ignore. It was introduced with previous updates for ARD and/or Java before Lion. These are messages, not errors. They will cause no harm, and they will be repeated each time you repair permissions.

  • I'm trying to share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I have tried several times to save at 1080 HD, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying "File already open with write permission."  What's this mean?

I'm trying to finalize/share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I'd like to finalize it 1080 hd and have tried several times, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying it can't be done because "File already open with with write permission."  What does this mean?  All files are closed; this iMovie project is the only thing open.  Does it mean one of the song files from iTunes? And should I just settle for saving it as a "large" file, which is what I'm trying right now?
    Thanks,
    Jamie
