What is this macbook pro worth?

Thinking of trading something of mine for this Macbook Pro, just wanted to see what the value of this computer is so I can figure out how much money I should ask for the item I am trading.

  • Is this MacBook Pro worth fixing?

    Hello all:
I have a MacBook Intel Pro Dual Core laptop in a bit of a sorry state. The baby barfed over the keyboard, and so I tried to remove it to clean it... and now the keys won't go back on. Also the thing has been dropped a dozen times or more and the chassis is bent (which is probably why the keys won't fit back on). Also, as the chassis is bent I can't get a CD/DVD into the drive. Also, according to a diagnostic test a volume needs rebuilding.
Is this computer worth fixing? It would need a new keyboard, some internal jiggery-pokery (to fix the volume issues) and the chassis straightening.
Does anyone know what this is likely to cost? I live some distance from the nearest Mac Store so I'm trying to find out a ballpark amount before I take the trip.
Thanks for any info or thoughts.

    Adrian:
You do not say just which MacBook Pro you have, but you can likely return it to usable condition for under $100, if the liquid did not get beyond the keyboard. I don't know about the bent chassis, but if it were not affecting the computer's functionality prior to the baby using the keyboard inappropriately, the computer should function just as well as before that accident. In terms of the optical drive it is difficult to say just what the issue might be there. It may have been damaged in one of the falls the computer sustained. You can pick up a keyboard/upper case on eBay for less than $50 and install it yourself with step by step directions from iFixit.
In the case of the volume needing rebuilding that is a directory issue which, if it can't be repaired by Disk Utility, can be repaired by a third party utility like Tech Tool Pro, DriveGenius or Disk Warrior. If you are not in a position to invest in one of those at the moment you can backup any data you wish to save and do a complete reformat, erase and reinstall. In other words, you computer can likely be functional again without major expense.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

  • Is this Macbook Pro worth getting?

Hi sorry for my bad english
I'm currently an employee at a pawn shop and we have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 15" i7 core running Lion for $550 + tax. My manager had lowered the price since Im an employee. The laptop have minor scuffs on the corner and it appears to have a broken headphone piece stuck inside the jack which prevents the sound to work out of the speakers, however you can still hear the chime when booting. The hard drive haven't been wiped yet. When I use the laptop it runs fine but when I open up a certain game installed the computer sometimes gives me a gray screen of death (Guess due to the system haven't been wiped yet, remember its running Lion)
To me personally I think it's a good deal to buy it since other places its way higer. What do you think?
    I

    Nightfall9,
the 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro is known to have a defect with its NVIDIA GPU. Apple had a policy of servicing this model MacBook Pro gratis, but it was limited to a term of three years from the laptop’s original date of purchase. In my view, a low price on this particular model does not necessarily mean a good deal, particularly if the broken headphone piece cannot be easily extracted, or if this laptop does not also come with its original grey installation DVDs. Its original version of Mac OS X, Snow Leopard, will need to be reïnstalled on it, since the previous owner’s Apple ID will still be associated with this laptop for as long as Lion remains installed on it; and it will need the version of Snow Leopard that came on its original grey installation DVDs, not the version of Snow Leopard on the white retail  DVD.

  • What does this Macbook Pro Model # Mean?...MB133LZ/A

I just purchased a Macbook Pro off of eBay and have now just noticed that they had the MPN for this laptop listed as MB133LZ/A. After doing some research, is this a computer from outside of the U.S.? If so, will this be a problem for me since I live in the United States? Can anyone explain to me what the model # means and if this laptop will be any different than the ones sold in the U.S. Thanks a lot!

One of my fellow level 4s appears to believe that LZ indicates it is from a Latin American country. That might indicate a slightly different keyboard, but you can always attach a U.S. keyboard if you find that it is, and Apple menu -> System preferences -> International lets you select the keyboard settings you desire.

You need to purchase an external drive and start moving some files to it or you can try trashing some files that you no longer need.
Download OmniDiskSweeper and see where your larger files are... you can move them to an external drive or trash them: it's up to you.
I would also begin, since it's obviously don't have backups, a backup scheme or two. See Most commonly used backup methods.
    Good luck,

    Hi Hun
Thank you so much for your advice. And yes it worked out perfectly i am so happy with it, it is a fabulous machine, i love apple products that are very impressive with regards to technology and keeping out the viruses that all other computers can get.
I told my husband that he should be lucky and he laughed lol, yes he loves it too.  When we pay for something here we are very protected even if its a private sale, even better when through paypal, which is a good thing.  The trading standards here are very strict and have to pass all sorts and if no its thrown out plus the banks give us protection when we buy something too, if its not what it should be we are reimbursed and the seller has to pay the bank then, so yes we are very lucky.
I agree this community is fabulous, plus i am very happy also as i was able to "pay it forward" too i answered somebody's question that i knew the answer to i was so chuffed to bits hehe.
Du to my disabilities i have to spend lots of time in hospital and when at home i spend most the time on the bed due to my spinal injury, from hit and run, so robert bought me the iPad 2 when it girst came out and i have love it all the time, still do but wanted to be able to do lots more so we decided to buy another macbook and so glad i found this one, whether i have to lie down or sit on the couch even for short periods i have the macbook on a lap try, has polystyrene balls in then a hard tray attached to it so the macbook is ver on anything soft, so it is very protected.
Well sweet thank you so much for all your help, and no doubt i will have to call on you again, i will click the follow button for you and may have to bug you again lol. so no doubt speak soon.
    Take real good care
    Best regards

  • I am so new to Mac. I just bought this Macbook Pro. No Disks or anything. I need to completely wipe and reinstall. Is there anyplace I can download the disks to burn to dvd to do a complete wipe and reinstall?  I'm running 10.6.8. Or maybe a later version

I guess you can see how new i am to this, I typed my whole question in the subject. Any way, i bought this macbook pro used, no disks, need to do a complete wipe and reinstall. is there anywhere i can download the install disks to burn to dvd? Or buy either one, or maybe even a later version? Im running 10.6.8 currently.  Thanks in Advance! Terry

First determine what system you really have.
Apple menu -> About This Mac.
If it is 10.7, you don't need installer discs, because there is a recovery partition:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
If indeed it is 10.6.something then you'll want to call AppleCare for the discs.
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If they determine the machine is older than 10.6's initial release (August 28, 2009), you'll want to purchase 10.6 retail, and/or 10.7 retail from the Apple Store.
    Regardless, backup your data first*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And read the benefits of both 10.6 and 10.7:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
and determine which can run on your machine, and decide which you want to have.

  • What Makes the MacBook Pro better then MacBook Air?

What Makes the MacBook Pro better then MacBook Air?
I am considering getting a laptop of one of the 2.
I think Macbook pro is what i want as just a secondary computer, need a laptop that performs same as my desktop IMac
What are really the differences between the Pro and Air?
    What Pro is best?
Anyone have problems? and am i best with paying for a brand new computer vs refurb?
    thanks

It really depends what you use it for.
I'm in my senior years in high school and I just bought my macbook pro (15 in - $1799 w/out tax). I'm willing to spend the extra money as I am planning to use it to continue my education in post secondary school. I think that the MBP is great for work, designing and for professionals. The MBA is great for portability and chicness. The graphics on the MBP is beyond my expectations and it's great. Its great for many things.
It all comes to this. Are you willing to spend the extra money on a MBP. What will you be using your computer for? WIll you be using it for a very long time? Are you going to be careful with it? I heard that the MBA is flimsy and can easily break.
I also recommend you ask a person at the Genius Bar at your local Apple store and they will be glad to assist you. I researched for a solid half of a year before i made a decision and bought my macbook pro.
    Hope this helps.

  • I can not sync my phone with this Macbook Pro

I had a nasty suprise I paid out over £1500.00 to be told that I can not sync my phone with this Macbook Pro.
the reason for buying a Mac is that the windows 7 machine is in little bits so how do I sync that.  there is no music on this Mac pro and if I try to sync my phone it wants to wipe my phone That is Pants!
    <Re-Titled by Host>

    FTFY (for readability):
"I had a nasty surprise, when after having paid out over £1500.00, I learned that I am unable to sync my phone (unidentified model) with my new MacBook Pro (unidentified model).
The reason I bought the Mac was due to the fact that my former computer, a Windows 7 machine, has been damaged beyond repair.
There is no music currently loaded onto my new Mac, and when I try to sync the data on my Mac to my phone (unidentified model) I am prompted with a warning that my phone data will be wiped clean. This is not good!"
Okay, so I'm just being a little cheeky here - no offense intended.
Details are always best when seeking assistance, however. Try not to make others do the work for you. Take the time to do it yourself.
What model of Mac do you have?
What version of OSX are you using?
What version of iTunes are you using for syncing purposes?
What model of phone are you using and what software version is installed on it?
Try to better articulate the steps you are performing and the warnings that you are encountering.
    Best of luck.

That machine will handle your Photoshop stuff just fine, but it's not what you want for fast turnover in FCP.

  • Can you please tell me about this MacBook Pro?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully helping me out. I am a first time Mac purchaser and I feel a bit out of my element here.
I am thinking of buying this MacBook Pro
    (http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB604?mco=MTM3NDgzMzY)
If am not using the computer for editing or games, it will be for watching movie on-line and my dvd's.
    Questions:
1.) The add says the computer has 4gigs of RAM. 256MB of shared RAM. And finally, a 512MB of graphics memory. What does this mean exactly? What does shared mean for this setup? Please feel free to give me as much info as possible.
2.) Overall, would it be a mistake to get this computer?
3.) Is that a decent amount of RAM and stuff for the video cards to work and also allow the OS to run well?
4.) When was this MacBook Pro made? Is it like from 2007 or something? Is this pretty much a new model or is it one of the first uni-body models a few years back?
Thank you for helping me out.

The MacBook Pro you are considering is an early 2009 model. I own two of the 17" MacBook Pros the late 2008 models with the removable batteries. I looked hard and long and found one still on the shelf as NOS and bought it for the wife. I am not fond of the internal batteries like the model you are considering. When it comes time to change it--and that time will certainly come--it's not as snappy as push a button and remove.
4GB of ram on this computer is plenty. Today. 8GB is the future benchmark. I have 16GB in my i7 which tells you where ram is going to be. You can update ram cheaply at any time. Buying a computer is like owning a garage. You keep adding stuff until one day you drive home to find there is no room to park the car in the garage. Buy the most ram, best processor and biggest hard drive you can grow into for the next few years.
Here are the answers to your questions:
RAM: the power to work quickly.
RAM (Random Access Memory) is the memory your Mac uses to run software applications and store frequently accessed data. Adding RAM improves the performance of your entire experience: opening and working with large files; using the Finder and other elements of Mac OS X; and running graphics, audio, video, and scientific applications. In addition, more RAM speeds up your computer when you have lots of applications open at the same time.
Hard drive: room to work and play.
The hard drive is where your Mac stores all your data when you’re not using it. The capacity of a hard drive, measured in gigabytes, or GB, tells you how much room you have to store your files and applications. A typical application today may take 10 to 50 megabytes (MB); photos may take up about 2-4MB each; graphics files can occupy more than 100MB; and video files are often many gigabytes in size.
The standard hard drive in every Mac offers enough space for average users to store their documents and digital media. If you’re a photo, music, or video aficionado who likes to collect media files, a larger hard drive will give you room to grow your collection.
Processor: the high-speed engine of your Mac.
The processor is the brains of your Mac. Every second, it completes the billions of calculations needed to perform every computing task. Most Mac models feature the Intel Core 2 Duo family of processors, with twin processor cores that pack twice the power of a standard processor in the same space.
With many Mac models, you can upgrade the processor to a faster speed. If you plan to do processor-intensive tasks such as video rendering, gaming, and working with large, multi-track audio files, a faster processor can improve the performance of your Mac.
Graphics processor: your world in high resolution.
A graphics processor is simply a processor dedicated to turning huge amounts of data into graphics and video output. By taking this task away from the main processor, a graphics processor also makes the entire system faster and more responsive.

I have a 2010 vintage 13-inch MacBook Pro that has a 60 watt power adapter.  I also have an older power adapter that is 65 watts.  Is it okat to use the 65 watt with this MacBook Pro?

    yes.
"For instance If you have a MacBook (13-inch Late 2009) that normally uses a 60W adapter, you can also use an 85W adapter with that computer. You would not use a 45W adapter with that computer; it would not provide enough power for that MacBook.
