What is this slot? DV7 series notebook

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-3060us Windows 7 64 bit system: under the 2nd hard drive cover near the graphics chip and little battery there is a slot looks almost like a PCI slot or something.  Can anyone tell me what this is for or what can be plugged into it?

Hi,
You're welcome
HP does not offer a graphics chip upgrade and I would strongly suspect the Bios has a 'whitelist' of what hardware can connect to this slot.

DP-K

    Hi all,
I'm a new user of GX620. I just got it and as always looked around new toy.

  • Loud bootup login beep Dv7 series notebooks

    Product: Pavilion DV7 6b55dx
    Operating system, irrelevant
    Error: none
Changes made to system: using the bios security function to require a password
If I set the login to require a password before windows starts, my Pavilion Dv7 makes a horribly loud beep. Its obnoxious, and prevents me from trying to use my computer when others are sleeping in the house.  I wouldnt want to use it on public becasue of the obnoxious noise and this is exactly when you would want this password requirement activated in case of theft.
Please create a switch for it in the bios to turn off the **bleep** beep!

Nice extensive research on reseting Beats Audio on the HP laptops.
Just bought the Envy 17t-3000 and I updated all the drivers via HP Support Manager.
BEFORE the update, the Beats Audio worked well..
    1. Press the dial and the popup box comes up ~3 secs
    2. Volume indicator swirl appeared to show volume level
AFTER the update, something changed the Beats Audio... had to re-install the latest driver from HP website (even after contacting HP Tech support via chat and email several times)...
    1. Press the dial and the popup box comes up ~10-12 secs now!
    2. Volume indicator swirl DISAPPEARED so volume level indicator is GONE
Sure the sound works but NOW I do NOT know or remember the volume level whenever I listen to music.
You can barely tell on the Windows Speaker icon on Icon bar since 2 sound waves indicate at least 50% sound level but that's it!
I have the following softwares and checked their settings and set them all at 50% and use the Beats Audio dial to control the volume whenever the programs are used:
    1. WinAmp
    2. VLC player
    3. MPC
    4. WMP
No matter what I try, it appears that the Beats Audio Volume Control Swirl Indicator is GONE! Worse, there's NO Windows volume control indicator unless leave the Volume Mixer open!
Anyone know how to fix this problem and bring Back the Audio Beats volume indicator??
    Thanks!

  • Recovery Disc Failure after Hard Drive replace of a DV7 series notebook

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4270us with Windows 7 64 bit and recently got a message on bootup stating that the SMART system of my Hard Drive has failed. I purchased a Momentus XT Hybrid drive. I purchased the Recovery discs, since I neglected to follow my own advice and didn't make a set. Replaced the Hard Drive, and started the Recovery process, after the Application disc, the system said Finished, Clicked on the button, the system shutdown. Turned the power back on, Recovery took over for a couple of minutes stating that it was copying some files, a couple of minutes later it claimed that it was finished asking me to click finished. After I did so, the system rebooted hanging on the HP logo screen with the statement in the lower left corner stating "Press ESC for the Startup Menu". My only recourse has been to power down machine. When I restart the computer I get the message "Bootmgr missing".
I have already poured through the forums and tried downloading the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit DVD from Digital Life. As it begins the Install it states that a driver is missing, I have poured through the drivers for this computer and don't see anything for SATA, and none of the others would be needed for bootup. I have been successful in loading my Windows 7 Professional on the system, but since I don't have an extra key code for Professional lying around, it isn't helping right now.
I have also attempted to partition the new drive manually using my desktop and a device allowing me to see the drive using a USB port, but it did not go right. The good news is that the old drive is still working to a point. I can read it through the USB port, and I can back-up the drive, except for the Recovery partition. But when I put the new drive in and setup the partitions similar to the original drive, it still does not boot.
I have attempted many other things all to utter failure, I am not used to failing when it comes to computers, so be gentle.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
The missing driver is due to either a bad burn or use a different brand DVD. You have to burn the ISO file at the slowest possible speed you can.
Also, double check the file size of the ISO you downloaded. Sometimes you don't get the full 3.xx GB even though the download says completed.
If you have a 4GB or larger USB flash drive you can install W7 that way.
    Just follow these instructions...
Download the MS W7 USB installation tool, and read the instructions on the page for use.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
You may also need to do this mod like I did if the flash tool errors out.
Download the bootsect file form http://www.everettsporting.com/bootsect.zip
You will need to go to the control panel, select the large icon view, go to the folder options icon, View tab, and select the show hidden files and folders option.
Once downloaded, copy the BootSect.exe file to the same folder that includes the installed Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool.exe file. The default install directory of that file in Windows 7 is C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Apps\Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool\
Run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool application as indicated on the Microsoft Store web site. The end result will give you a bootable USB flash drive that contains everything you need to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

  • What kind of slot is this?

Good morning. I've got an ENVY 17-k100nl and I'd like to add an SSD.
    The manual says:
     - Support M.2 SATA Storage (Port0)
    - Internal card: One 2280 M.2 slot for SSD
So, to be sure I disassembled it and found this slot:
    The slot's width is 22 mm, there are 29 + 4 pins.
What kind of SSD should I buy? I'm very confused about all these M.2 form factors.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
My suggestion: look at the specs of the model in my previous reply and buy the same one or at least same specs. Looks like it has B key as shows in its model. The following image is from my loan Envy 17t-kxxx machine, only 1 day old.

  • How Do I Downgrade From Windows Vista To XP On A 3000 N100 Series Notebook?

Hello. Here is the problem. I have Windows Vista Pre-loaded on my 3000 N100 Notebook, absolutely dislike this operating system and want to erase and load Windows XP. From reading other forum messages I have learned several things.
    1) The install disk On Windows XP Home & Professional will not recognize Sata Hard Drives, when it reaches the point of loading where it looks for the hard drive it "BOMBS OUT" with error messages.
    Several options are open .............
    1) Log into the BIOS, locate the SATA option, and change to compatibility mode.
    2) Have a USB external floppy connected with a Sata Driver on it and when installing Windows XP press the "F6" button when Windows asks for any external drivers you want to load.
Here is the problem with the 3000 N100 Notebook series..........
1)There is "NO SATA OPTION" in the BIOS of the 3000 N100 series notebooks to choose. In this model Lenovo stripped the BIOS down to the bare essentials.......and I Do Mean.... "BARE". The latest BIOS upgrade also has no Sata option. Why they did not offer at least this choice of downgrading to XP is beyond me. LENOVO..... I'm not impressed with your notebook.  As usual.... Microsoft has all vendors jumping to their tune..... Nothing but "VISTA" at this point in time. What if you hate it??????
    2) I have hunted all over the Lenovo Web Site for a "SATA DRIVER" that would work with a 3000 N100 Notebook, no such critter exists.  LENOVO..... Couldn't you have at least offered this????  I'M NOT IMPRESSED.
Has anyone been able to downgrade to Windows XP successfully on a 3000 N100 Series Notebook??? How Did You Do It?? Has Anyone Located A "SATA DRIVER" That Works???  IF So, Please Explain To Me Step-By-Step How I Can Get Rid of Vista and Load XP.
    Help........Help.......Help........Help......Help!!!!!!!!!!!
    Regards

Hello Himleung. Thank you for answering this message. Where did you find a "Sata Hard Drive Driver" that works?? Perhaps you could pass that along to this message forum in case someone else that has a 3000 N100 (may also work with the N200 series) Notebook wants to downgrade from Vista to Windows XP.
This is what baffles me to no end. The Lenovo web site has every driver you need to load Windows XP on the notebook.....**EXCEPT**..... the Sata HD Driver......**OR**...... the ability in BIOS to change to "compatability mode".  Duh!!!..... whats wrong with this story. I have never seen such a weak BIOS as the one in the 3000 N100. If I had known this I probably would have gone to another brand. They should have advertised this notebook as...... "Non-Geek Compatible".
Not knowing exactly how you could forward the driver to me I did the following....... I created a new Web email location that you could use to send the driver as an email attachment. The address is....... [email protected] This address will exist just long enough to obtain the driver..... and then......"Hasta-La-Vista" baby......end of story......as I do not want to be bombarded with ads, trash, or perhaps a virus of some sort..... although.....I'm SURE we have GREAT PEOPLE on this message center.
I'm not familiar with the "NLITE" program you mentioned. Again....perhaps you could mention where I can get it and what I need to do to set the program up to run the driver.
    Thanks again, Himleung.

  • How do I install a 512MB SSD in my ENVY dv7-7212nr Notebook PC?

My dv7-7212nr Notebook has a 640GB HDD & a 32GB MSATA running Windows 8.1 on Intel 4-core CPU. I bought a Crucial 512GB SSD and an Install Kit with cloing software. I cloned the drive onto the new SSD with no issues. I removed the HDD and installed the new SSD.
Upon boot up got "Your PC needs to be repaired Error Code 0xc000025".
I removed the new SSD and reinstalled the original HDD and it booted up fine. I removed the HDD again and installed the new SSD but this time I also removed the existing 32GB MSATA SSD (what a pain getting to it).
Upon boot up I got "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed Error Code 0xc000225"
The new SSD shows up in the bios boot order.  What am I doing wrong?

Just boot from it and select repair your computer
    Here is a Microsoft tutorial:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/how-do-i-fix-a-boot-startup-problem
You are going to perform a startup repair and it should replace boot files onto the SSD. The files you cloned from the old drive onto the SSD should be enough for the repair disk to see that there is a repairable Windows 8.1 installation on the drive and put the extra files needed to boot up onto it. It could take 2 or 3 restarts.

  • Satellite L500D - What kind of slot is under the battery?

I have found a slot( i think it's memory slot) under battery in my satellite L500D. What kind of slot is that?(It looks like for MicroSD card, but sign says it's WIS slot - I have searched but I haven't found what does it means)
Does it work in my laptop or it's for other models?

    Hi
Memory slots are placed near the batter bay.
But the slots are not placed under the battery.
It would be interesting to see the slot on the picture.
As far as I know the notebook does not support the 3G therefore I dont think that this is a slot for a 3G card.
Of course the notebook supports an Bridge Media slot which handles the SD Card, SDHC Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMediaCard but this slot is placed on the front of the notebook.

  • How to disable touchpad when usb mouse in on HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏ using Windows 7

I would like to have my touch pad disabled when using my USB mouse or otherwise be able to manually disable it.  It is a pain to use when typing with the touch pad enabled but I would like to use the touch pad on occasions such as when I am traveling or if my mouse goes out. Not to mention, I would need to re-enable the touh pad if for some reason I have no mouse (keyboard shortcut?)
I am using windows 7 on my HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏

This is what it looks like.
You should consider returning you notebook to the Windows 8 OS. There are many new features that it has that Windows 7 never did. Download use the free open source software called classic shell to give yourself a start button in Windows 8 that even has more features than Windows 7 start buton does. Once you use Windows 8 for a while you will enjoy it, especially the refresh feature and lower memory use.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Windows 7 drivers.

    Hello rncarradini
I seen your post and was wondering if your issue has been resolved? If not could you review the questions below and I will do my best to assist you.
    1. In your first post you indicate that if you hit "Enter" it will continue with the start up? Does it load your Windows operating system?
    2. What you are describing is the UEFI menu and I would suggest updating the UEFI environment via the Driver and Download page. If you are unsure of how to do this please re-post with your product number. Your product number can be found by following the HP Support document: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?. Or, you can try following the instructions provided under the sub-heading "Install updated UEFI tools and BIOS" in the HP Support document: Install updated UEFI tools and BIOS.
I hope this helps resolve your start issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Where would i get 2nd hdd cable for hp dv7-series (long cable) that would ship to finland.

Where would i get 2nd hdd cable for dv7 series (long one) THAT would ship to Finland. (as the subject says eh')

    Hei:
It depends on where in the dv7 model series your PC falls.
There are 2 types of second HDD cables. The one Kamat pointed out for the dv7 6xxx series, and then there is this one at the link below for these dv7 series:
     http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345&zenid=b451f3afd6d86cd...
So, you will need to know what dv7 you have.
I believe they ship worldwide. A forum member from Italy got his from here. That is how I know about this site, and all about the fact that there are 2 types of 2nd HDD cables for dv7's.
The only part number referenced for a 2nd HDD cable in the service manual is for the dv7-6xxx series.

To be honest when I first got it, I thought I broke that hole . . . see I assumed it was a button to eject the CD slot, and I managed to either push it in deep enough, or smash it off. . .. .  I once got a tooth pick and fiddled around in there in atempt to find something. . ..

  • Mac randomly crashes, screen turns green and white, and it works fine upon restart. What causes this and how can I fix it?

My MacBook Pro 13 inch (I've had it for about a year and a half) has started crashing randomly. It happens about once a week and it will happen when I'm in the middle of either watching a video, typing a paper, playing a game, etc. The computer clicks loudly and the screen becomes a series of green and white lines. It works fine upon restart, but it's still annoying whenever it happens. What causes this? Is it fixable?

The image suggests an issue with the graphics board.
The issue may happen more when your machine is generating additional heat, as when you're watching or processing video, or gaming. I can't say for certain, of course, but certain things will reduce the chance of the problem recurring:
    1. Keep your machine as cool as possible. When there's additional heat, turn up the fan, or use an app like HD Fan Control to reduce the heat. Use your computer the way you see fit, but be conscious of heat.
    2. Back up on a regular basis. Logic board problems can lead to more serious issues down the line, so backing up is a good way of safeguarding your data.
    3. Look up "Logic Board Woes" on Google for a comprehensive discussion of the issue.
