• How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over home page?

Search.US.com has taken over my hone page and everything else it can. I have tried all the suggestions available to me by the help section. I have went so far as to delete cookies. This is very invasive. I looked at restoring the system but have few options for recovery points and they don't include the search engine download. I removed the add on it came with as well. I had removed the search engine in add/remove programs and was stupid when it asked if I wanted the default settings restored. I said no. I'm afraid I am j pretty stupid when it comes to software. I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time in this matter. ps I put what I thought was relevant in the bottom box. I had not seen this before. I tried to modify it but couldn't.

I finally got a hold of someone at that search us.com. They gave me this link to try and solve the problem. I have already reinstalled firefox but it might help someone else out. And it's much simpler. I haven't tried it but they said to get a hold of them if it didn't work. the link is:
Running ResetBrowsers.exe from http://support.search.us.com/uninstall.php should restore your settings to their defaults
Hope I'm not misusing this post. Thanks again for all your help. Your are all awesome.

• Bing has taken over from firefox, how do I fix it?

I just tried to start using my notebook and firefox has been taken over by bing.

In order to change the default search engine or the order of search engines in the top right search box in Firefox, please perform the following steps:
#Move the mouse cursor inside the search box at the top right of the Firefox window and click the down arrow next to the provider's logo.
#If you would like to select another search engine, simply pick the engine from the dropdown list.
In order to change the order of the search engines, do this:
#From the dropdown list, select ''Manage Search Engines...''.
#In the upcoming window, you have all your search engines listed. To change the order, simply click one search engine and then select ''Move up'' or ''Move down'' from the buttons on the right side in order to change the order of the search engines.

• I installed a music downloader Imesh which has taken over my Firefox browser, how can I get rid of it?

I installed a program called iMesh to play music on my computer via the internet. When I used Firefox now the search windows have been taken over by 'iMesh Web Search' and they don't bring up the same lists when I searched Firefox previously; e.g. it is very difficult to get 'Hotmail' to come up. I have uninstalled the iMesh program from the computer (not just deleted the icon), but my Firefox remains invaded. Please can you help?

• How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over Firefox?

I have a problem similar to the "Abuchak" problem listed in your forums. This is something different though. When I am at Yahoo or Google, I click a link and it takes me to another search listing. Sometimes it takes me to various sites where Avast (virus proggy) tells me it has blocked a malicious virus.
The last website it sent me to was http://64.111.211.188
I can, however, highlight the website under the link and paste it in the address field and that works out, but that's a pain. This has been going on for 2 weeks.
I have run Spybot, SpySweeper & Ad-Aware but it doesn't help.
How can I keep this software from taking over Firefox?
Please help. Thanks.

Uninstall the "ConnectBar" extension, you may have to reset [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries keyword.URL] in your '''about:config''' afterwards or change to a value you prefer for [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location bar searches].
The extension is not at Addons, it may have been obtained from an [http://www.facebook.com/pages/ConnectBar/156184567774985 advertisement] on Facebook.

• Error message that has taken over every program on my computer

Photoshop.exe - Entry Point Not Found The procedure entry point ?Terminate@StructuralImageEditing@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library PatchMatch.dll
At first, working on a photo, photoshop cc was not able to perform a selection correctly and was going very slow...so I checked and found that I needed an update....when I tried to update Creative Cloud, it failed. Then I started getting the message above when I tried to open photoshop cc. At that point I could open other programs. Then all of a sudden, the photoshop cc icon jumped to all my programs on my desktop and now I cannot open any program without getting the message above. I can only get online by starting a scan with Norton and then it opens up for me to get online. I have done a full Norton scan and have found no virus or malware. I am completely blocked trying to uninstall a program as well by this same message.
I called Adobe because I had seen an entry online that said Adobe installed PatchMatch.dll on someone's computer (that had the same problem with receiving that error messagee) and it was fixed. After an hour on the phone with an Adobe rep, I was "accidentally" disconnected and the Adobe rep never called me back. I failed to get his employee number and name and he never gave me a case number....so I am at square one.

You can reset the pref keyword.URL on the about:config page.

• How do I get rid of the "Inbox" screen that has taken over my web access? I have already uninstalled it, to no avail.

Everytime I go to my home page, this Inbox screen comes up. I uninstalled the program, but it still comes up, implying that it is embedded in something else. I want to be able to simply go to my web browser, Yahoo, when I click on my home button.

• Babylon browser hijack has taken over my firefox. I have deleted all files that I can from my hard drive, I have gone to about:config, searched for babylon and reset the settings, however it still comes back. How can I get rid of babylon?

I have tried malwarebytes, it only found "mywebpage" bugs, but I deleted them too. I also did a scan of my hard drive and deleted five files that all contained "babylon" in them. It still comes back time and time again.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• Bearshare was downloaded to our home computer. Now it has taken over my Firefox homepage and I can't get rid of it. I have tried changing the homepage via Tools, Options. Didnt work. Deleted the Bearshare app and cookies and web history. Still didnt work.

Tried resetting default setting via Firefox Safemode. Didnt work. Any suggestions.?
My situation is 2 home computers (Windows XP) sharing 1 modem, but have their own apps. Mozilla on the other computer is fine. Just this one which Bearshare was downloaded to.
It took over the Homepage in IE too, but I was able to change it using Internet Options.
The message which comes up when I try to change the Homepage is "An attempt to change the homepage has been blocked"
Tks

You only get an alert stating "An attempt to change the homepage has been blocked" if you have security software or an extension that is protecting against such a change. Firefox doesn't do that by itself. If starting in [[Safe mode]] didn't help then that only leaves security software, so you need to look to see how you can allow a home page change.

• How do I get rid of Bing? It has taken over my Firefox home page.

Every time I open Firefox, Bing loads as my home page. I have deleted from my internet options, etc., and it still takes over. There are a lot of other people having the same problem and you do not seem to be answering their requests for a solution.

Try uninstalling that '''SearchToolbar/1.2''', which is probably how you got Bing as your Firefox Homepage. Then reset the Firefox homepage '''in Firefox''', not '''''Internet Options'''''.

• A bogus "Apple Security Center" has taken over my Firefox browser

I was using the Firefox browser on my Apple computer and had just used Google to look up someone on the web, and suddenly a message appeared that I had a serious security problem and started to do a scan of my system, even though I didn't request it and didn't click on anything. I couldn't close the web page, and couldn't close Firefox, and couldn't even shut down the computer on the Apple menu. I had to force the computer to shut down using the start key. Every time I restart and try to use Firefox I get the same problem. I'm now on Safari. Help!

• I recently updated Firefox and something called Fantistic Games has taken over my homepage and I can't get rid of it.

I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".

This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
# At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
# In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
# Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
# Click the remove button.
# Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.
