What is too hot?

what is too HOT for my MB. I have SMC fanc control and I use this to tell what temp my MB is at. My MB reached 155 F. today w/o any programs running except SMC. I have searched these forums and I haven't found a clear awnser to this. thanx for the help.

There is really no clear answer, only normal ranges that people experience without problems.
Just judging by my own experience, I would say that 135-140 F would be a normal operating temperature- It is at that range that the MacBook normally hovers without reving up the fans.
Under load, the computer may get up to 170-185, but at that point the fans are going full throttle to bring the temp back down around the 130s.
I wouldn't worry too much about 155, but if you are constantly at that temp, you may want to check to see if there isn't some other process running in the background that is causing the CPU to heat up.

  • Is 100c too hot?

I know heat on these boards have been done to death. But my MBP seems to be getting way hot lately. All I am doing is burning a DVD with Toast and it is "toasting" my machine. What is too hot? Cause 100c is 197f. And that seems way too high to me.

Yes, encoding video will push you processing ability to it's limit and when encoding to DVD this can take some time which means the thermal characteristics of your MBP will be stretched to its limits.
I do still think that your MBP isn't cooling itself as well as it could (100ºC is right at the top end limit of what an MBP should get to) so make sure airflow around your MBP is clear of any obstruction and try to place it on a surface that will allow as much cooling through the bottom as possible rather than insulating. One option is to prop up the rear end a bit to allow additional airflow. A small personal fan blowing across the bottom can't hurt either.

  • How Hot is Too Hot for the Wireless Module

I have noticed my Wireless Module is running from 127 deg F to 131 deg F and wonder what is
too hot? At what temp should I become concerned?

131 F is not very hot, you know.
If I knew that I would not have posted the question. I have heard the iMac will
shut down if it gets too hot; however, I have no idea what is too hot.
When I ran the migration assistant to transfer files for the G4 to this iMac, one
of the hard drives got too hot and the migration assistant gave me a waring that the
transfer was stopped waiting for a drive to cool down. After a few minutes, it
started up again. That was very scary!

  • My phone gets too hot Everytime I use it, why? I don't know what to do!

Everytime I use my iPhone 5s it gets too hot. I've done everything. Even while charging it gets too hot. It's been like this for 2 days straight and I am compeltely baffled. I barely have any apps on my phone so I dont understand as to what the problem is…any help?

So what does 'everything' mean? You've done each of the following 4 troubleshooting steps; restart, reset, restored from backup, restored as new? If so then you likely have a hardware problem and it needs to be examined at an Apple store.

  • My iPad gets too hot to handle! What's up with that?

I have the new iPad 3, and it gets too hot to handle... Is apple gonna fix that or what?

There probably is no fix for it. Contact Apple or if you bought the iPad at an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment, show them the iPad and they will replace it if the device is faulty.
There is no way that it should get to hot to handle - mine barely gets warmer than my original iPad does. Take it back, get it replaced.

  • Its too hot what should i do

In Pakistan its around 50 degree Celsius in Summer my phone gets too hot that i am afraid of it being destroyed....what should i do,

    Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
    Nonoperating temperature: −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)
Your phone will shut down before any damage is done, but keeping it in an environment higher than 45° C "could" damage it.

  • I accidentally left my phone in my work truck and the temperature got too hot..Since I cooled down, everything works fine except when I make and receive calls, the person can't hear me at all :(. Does anyone possiblly know what I can do ?

My iPhone 4s got too hot and since any calls I make or receive, the person on the opposite end can't hear me at all... Any suggestions?

I have had this happen to me on 3GS, 4 and 4s.   Usually the solution is one of the following:
1-  If  your volume indicator says  headphones even though they are not plugged in, then:
Stick your headphones into the headphone jack and then remove quickly.
    2. If that does not work Power your phone off. Then when restarting Reset the phone by pressing the home button and the power button at the same time until the apple logo appears.
    3. Make sure you have not chosen to send audio to an Airplay device such as Apple Tv.
Hope one of these works for you

  • Droid Razr - too hot to touch

Having several issues with my Droid RAZR, purchased in June 2012.  Current Android Version 4.1.2, Build Nbr 9.8.20-72....
    Main issues are:
Battery life - stays plugged in all day & takes about an hour to go from 100% battery to about 65% battery.  It's under 50% at 2 hours after being unplugged & is around 20% within 3 hrs.
Overheating is a problem.  When not in use (and simply in a shirt pocket) it gets to the point of being uncomfortably hot.  Temp in a battery app is between 42-45 C.  If I use it for streaming audio, it gets too hot to hold.  Heat is also up during any phone activity at all.
Drops in & out of 4G/3G constantly & is much more apt to drop that coverage down to 1x than ever before.
Also notice that the GPS flashes in & out more often recently than before.
Not sure exactly when the update to JellyBean was rolled out to me, but I have had more of these issues in the last 90 days than I did prior to that.  I know that within the last 30 days other Verizon users with Droids have told me about abnormal power consumption on virtually all apps on their phone.
Using Advanced Task Killer v1.9.7 & have it set to autokill = crazy and interval = when screen off.  Apps set to ignore are Gmail, a Craigslist app, Weather and Calendar. Everything else I have set to kill.  Even with those apps, it is still warm to the touch.
Nothing I've done thus far has seemed to help curb the unusual power consumption on my Razr.  I've cleared the cache on it several times, and it seems to have curbed the constant heat issue, but not the spikes in temperature that went unnoticed before.
I don't want to do a factory reset on it if I can avoid it, but would if it were the only resort.
Any ideas what else to try?

    To answer your questions:
    1. First thing Get rid of the Task Killer that can for sure cause the Heating as the ( Task Killer ) is constantly fight the Apps,
It is now uninstalled.  I had installed it when I noticed that the Android OS was using a disproportionate amount of the system resources (over 50%).
    2. try running the phone in Safe Mode you could have some apps causing the issue as well
I will give this a try.  Most apps I notice take 3% or under of power consumption.  The big ones are screen (30 second timeout), Android OS (as of now, they are about 70% of the power consumption) and Wi-Fi (at home).  Android System takes only slightly more than the most heavy power consuming app.
Outside of the task killer, I had only installed updates to apps over the last month or so.  I just booted it into Safe Mode & it got noticeably hot in the center after about 5 minutes.
    3. And have you done a System Cache Clear in say the last couple of Months if not i would definitely try that
Yes, several times in the last week or so (Power off, then Vol + and Vol - and Power ), select Recovery, then select wipe cache partition & then reboot).
    4. with a follow up of a Factory Reset
I had wanted to avoid doing that unless as an absolute last resort, since I have so many pictures, files, and other things saved on the phone.
    and your last question:
    5. And one other thing i like to ask are you using the Charger that came with the phone or Charging it Via a Computer if by computer Switch to the charger that came with it in the Box..
Yes (at home).  In the vehicle, I am using a charger I purchased from Verizon when I got this phone.  At work, I use an AC Charger that was also purchased from Verizon.
Thanks for the help.  I will let you know if Safe Mode makes any difference.

  • Macbook pro 13" late 2011 too hot

I've been using my macbook for about 4 years in the same way with the same applications but recently I've noticed that it reaches very easily an high temperature and, consequently the fan works very hard draining my battery.
Analysing Istat pro I noticed that the temperature reaches 93° degree and more but looking up the processes it doesn't seem there is something wrong.
What do you suggest me? should I try to clean up the fans?
2 years ago I mounted the Crucial RAM update together with the 512gb ssd.
    Thank you very much

Look at Activity Monitor set to ALL PROCESSES and CPU to display values from high to low.  Are there applications using a lot of resources?
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203184
93°c is not too hot if the CPU/GPU are being heavily taxed.
In what condition is your battery?  It is not unusual to have to replace a 4 year old battery.  They do not last forever.
Open the MBP and inspect the insides.  If there is dust and debris, clean it out.
    Ciao.

  • IPHONE 4 Temperature too hot needs to cool down????

I waited 12 hours in line for my iphone 4 and got it today. Got it activated in the store, worked fine. When I got home, it started saying "Temperature too hot, needs to cool down". It wont let me charge or sync. The phone is not even warm, as I had not used it since i left the store..I have waited a few hours and I am getting concerned. Any advice please?

so the info in that link is correct.
No it's not. The directions given are for a Reset and no matter what you call it, following those directions will not erase any data or settings and will certainly not restore the phone to it's original state. I've done this hundreds of times and it's like rebooting a computer - nothing is lost.
Check the manual... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf Search for the terms Reset and Restore.
Please learn the functions of the iPhone before posting solutions on a tech support forum.

  • Ipad 32gb wifi, got too hot error, let cool down, then blue screen, won't reboot or power on

a friend's ipad got the too hot error message earlier this afternoon, despite the device never having been used outside and having been inside in a 68 degree house at the time. was being used to watch YouTube videos primarily.
    let the device cool down.
then they got the blue screen, and now the device won't power up, acknowledge power cord plugged in, or reboot at all. no apple screen, no slider, nothing.
i'm guessing the device is totally bricked.
anyone have any other suggestions, before we call tech support (it's a company-owned device, not personal, and only purchased in september 2012 so still under warranty).
    thanks!

Hi Buddy! Well I was up 'til 5am and NOTHING changed on the indicator lights OR the computer...gave it 'til I got up today (11am ish) and still NOTHING!(Just my power bill going up LOL) However, if I turn it off, back on, off, back on THEN press alt+f10 BEFORE it starts 'circling' I get: "preparing repair" right away which gets my hopes up BUT nothing.OK.  So I have gone to look at the option of buying repair discs like you suggested, but the bleeping store web page keeps coming up "sorry ...we are aware of this problem...we are working on it" all in red ink. Yup, right, like you have great customer service too, yeah? grrrrrAnyhoo, wondering about this:a) could something be LOOSE? A neighbour told me her son had the EXACT same model and problem and just the RAM was loose.  He had to pay $$ a technician just to fix that which took about 5sec.  Could that be the case here? Something loose?b) Should/could I open the computer and check myself? What does the RAM board look like? Can I find a diagram somewhere that shows me a map of the inside of the computer?  I am a craftsperson (jewelry) and I am quite confident I have the tools to open it and look inside...What do you think?

  • 174 degrees F too hot?

So...I'm assuming that this is what's causing my computer to shut down. i'm using temperture monitor and it says my CPU board is 174F which is well above the upper limit of 148F. Any ideas on what I can do? My computer has been shutting down randomly and sometimes wouldn't start. At first I thought PMU so I reset that but that didn't work. then I saw that it was too hot. What can be done? Thanks!

    Hi,
Actually, according to Apple the max limit of 95 degrees Fahrenheit! Look at the set up manual and it says it right there.. but, it seems that we have all determined Apple's notice might not be correct. My MDD right now is at 98.6 and its taxing right along and staying low. Dunno, for some reason I have been SPARED the problems of over heating. Also, is your MDD a FW800 MDD? I have heard that MDD's with the FW800 are more prone to over heating than the standard ones which boot into OS 9.2.2
Also, make sure you are running nap mode, also get two 120MM fans like I have and a PCI slot fan.
Even before I bought my MDD machine from a local neighbor, he never had ANY, and I mean ANY overheating problems with his machine. Although, the max temperature I have seen on mine is 130 degrees which to me is sometimes too hot, but not over the limit. Never had my machine ever gone above 135 or even to the 140 mark. I pray tell that all I am saying about my machine being SPARED the overheating problems continues to be that way.
I do feel your pain and frustration. Just get nap mode enabled and get a couple of fans. Notice on your logic board to the FAR RIGHT near the airport and modem there should be a two-pin connector for hooking up another fan.
My system's cooling scheme is as such: one 120MM fan underneath the front drive cage, blows out ice cold air(I feel the bottom of my machine and its ice cold). Another 120MM fan connected to the two pin connector on the logic board, and mounted on top of the roof of the optical drive chassis. A PCI slot fan next to video card.
