What Is "Unknown or Invalid jpg marker"?

Some of my pictures have a rectangular blue icon with the letters PSE on them.  Even though the file extenstion is jpg., I get and error message when trying to open them.  I get a message that it is an unknown or invalide jpg marker type.  I have tried re-naming the file, but that hasn't worked.
Thank you

Sometimes the JPG data gets corrupted just enough to choke PSE, although other programs can open the image OK.
Open the image in another program and save it from that other program to re-write the JPG data correctly.

  • Unable to open JPG file, getting "unknown or invalid JPEG marker was found", help needed

    Info:
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
    Adobe Photoshop 64bit CS5 etxended (Version 12.0 x64)
So downloaded some JPG files from the web and trying to use some of them as wallpapers. I am able to open them in Windows viewer and some other prgrams but they are the wrong size for my screen so I wanted to change the resolution and opened them into CS5 and sound that some of them would not open. I am getting the following error "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker was found" and yet there does not seem to be anything I can do to resolve this to open them into CS5.
    Any thoughts or advice?

Open them into another viewer, copy, then FIle-New in Photoshop and Paste.
Photoshop is picky and a file that does not properly follow the JPEG standards could cause this kind of problem.  Other apps are sometimes more forgiving.

  • How do I fix "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found"?

Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found
The above messagecomes up on a lot of my photoshop files that have been recovered from a damaged disk - can this be fixed?
    Thanks, Phil.

That's a pretty good indication that the data inside the files is corrupted.
You *might* be able to get some of the image back by opening it in different tools that can open JPEGs.  But very likely none will be able to recover all the image data perfectly.
Check Irfan View as a viewer with some resiliency for opening corrupted files.

  • An unknown or invalid jpeg marker is found

"an unknown or invalid jpeg marker is found"
    jpegs being corrupted when copied
Each one, in different folders, copied from my MacBookPro’s desk top, all rendered out as a full sized jpeg, 300dpi, but then when I transfer them onto another HD, they all render out as the correct MB size (12MB etc), but they are sized 256 x 171 in the Bridge Info panel and none will open in Preview or Bridge or Photoshop, “Could not complete your request as an unknown or invalid jpeg marker is found"
They worked fine originally. Other files etc work well on the HD. i do not use anything other than jpeg and the original RAW files so all extensions are correct.
    Thanks

You are correct in that this particular message means your files are hosed.
Your external HD could be going south, or the connection may be faulty, check all cable ends, the computer ports, etc.
How are you "transferring" them?  That's a term that gives me hives.

  • Yesterdat's saved photo won't open, getting unknown or invalid JPEG marker?

Why is yesterday's saved work file not openning? getting unknown or invalid JPEG marker

It sounds like the file thinks it is JPEG for some reason, and it's not really JPEG or has been corrupted.
You wouldn't get a JPEG error on a PSD file.

  • Invalid JPEG marker type?

  • What are valid and invalid email address characters

What are valid and invalid email address characters in Exchange 2010, for example can you have Conan.O'[email protected] is there a document that shows the valid and invalid sysmbols?

    Hi
The format of email addresses is
local-part@domain where the local-part may be up to 64 characters long and the
    domain name may have a
maximum of 253 characters - but the maximum 256 characters length of a forward or reverse path restricts the entire email address to be no more than 254 characters.[1]
The formal definitions are in RFC 5322 (sections 3.2.3
and 3.4.1) and RFC 5321 - with a more readable form given in
    the informational RFC 3696[2]
    and the associated errata.
    Local part
The local-part of the email address may use any of these
    ASCII characters
    RFC 5322 Section
    3.2.3:
Uppercase and lowercase English letters (a–z, A–Z) (ASCII: 65-90, 97-122)
    Digits
    0 to
    9 (ASCII: 48-57)
    Characters
    !#$%&'*+-/=?^_`{|}~ (ASCII: 33, 35-39, 42, 43, 45, 47, 61, 63, 94-96, 123-126)
    Character
. (dot, period, full stop) (ASCII: 46) provided that it is not the first or last character, and
provided also that it does not appear two or more times consecutively (e.g. [email protected] is not allowed.).
Special characters are allowed with restrictions. They are:
    o
    Space and
    "(),:;<>@[\] (ASCII: 32, 34, 40, 41, 44, 58, 59, 60, 62, 64, 91-93)
The restrictions for special characters are that they must only be used when contained between quotation marks, and that 3 of them (The
    space, backslash \ and
quotation mark " (ASCII: 32, 92, 34)) must also be preceded by a backslash
    \ (e.g.
A quoted string may exist as a dot separated entity within the local-part, or it may exist when the outermost quotes are the outermost characters of the local-part
    (e.g. abc."defghi"[email protected] or
    "abcdefghixyz"@example.com are allowed. Conversely,
abc"defghi"[email protected] is not; neither is
abc\"def\"[email protected]). Quoted strings and characters however, are not commonly used.
    RFC 5321 also
warns that "a host that expects to receive mail SHOULD avoid defining mailboxes where the Local-part requires (or uses) the Quoted-string form".
The local-part "postmaster" is treated specially - it is case-insensitive, and should be forwarded to the server's administrator. Technically all other local-parts
are case sensitive, therefore [email protected] and [email protected] specify different mailboxes. However most organizations treat uppercase and lowercase letters as equivalent, and also do not allow use of the technically valid characters
(space, ? and ^). Organizations are free to restrict the forms of their own email addresses as desired, e.g.,
    Windows Live Hotmail,
for example, only allows creation of email addresses using alphanumerics, dot (.), underscore (_)
    and hyphen (-).[3]
Systems that send mail must be capable of handling outgoing mail for all valid addresses. Contrary to the relevant standards, some defective systems treat certain
legitimate addresses as invalid and fail to handle mail to these addresses. Hotmail, for example, refuses to send mail to any address containing any of the following standards-permissible characters:
    !#$%*/?^`{|}~
    Domain part
The domain name part of an email address has to conform to strict guidelines: it must match the requirements for a
    hostname,
consisting of letters, digits, hyphens and dots. In addition, the domain part may be an
    IP address
literal, surrounded by square braces, such as jsmith@[192.168.2.1], although this is rarely seen except
    in email spam.
    Examples
    Valid email addresses
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>much."more\ unusual"@example.com</tt>
    <tt>very.unusual."@"[email protected]</tt>
    <tt>very."(),:;<>[]".VERY."very@\\\ \"very"[email protected]</tt>
    Invalid email addresses
<tt>Abc.example.com</tt> (an @ character must separate the local and domain parts)
<tt>[email protected]</tt> (character dot(.) is last in local part)
<tt>[email protected]</tt> (character dot(.) is double)
<tt>A@b@[email protected]</tt> (only one @ is allowed outside quotation marks)
<tt>a"b(c)d,e:f;g<h>i[j\k][email protected]</tt> (none of the special characters in this local part
    is allowed outside quotation marks)
<tt>just"not"[email protected]</tt> (quoted strings must be dot separated, or the only element making
    up the local-part)
<tt>this is"not\[email protected]</tt> (spaces, quotes, and backslashes may only exist when within
quoted strings and preceded by a slash)
<tt>this\ still\"not\\[email protected]</tt> (even if escaped (preceded by a backslash), spaces, quotes,
and backslashes must still be contained by quotes)

  • Invalid JPEG marker type is found

I use a very old version of Photoshop (Adobe PS CS Version 8) for digital scrapbooking.  I store all of my files on an EHD because I have thousands, and I don't want to slow down my computer's performance.  It had been hooked up to my desktop, but I recently started attaching it to my MacBook.  When I hooked it up, I had to update my iPhoto libraries to work with my MacBook's version of iPhoto ('11).  So I did.  Now when I try to open my files, I get the error message that an invalid JPEG marker type is found.  Most of the files, aren't even jpegs, they are pngs or psds.
Any ideas?  Can I undo what I've done?  I'm talking THOUSANDS of files!
Thanks for any/all of your help!
    -J

Either you have the wrong file extension on the files, or your files are corrupt and won't be readable.

    Welcome to the Apple forums.
Good idea to fill out your profile so people can see what machine you are writing about.
Also a good idea to do a little research through the 'More like this' panel to the right of your initial post.    Each of the threads also contains more leads so it is amazing how much you can learn from them.
    Good hunting.

Usually occurs on devices that have either been jailbroken or attempts have been made to downgrade the iOS.  You can try putting it in DFU mode to restore but you may not be able to fix it.  If you phone has been jailbroken we can't support you in these forums as it is against the terms of use.

What effect does it have to mark or flag an e-mail message in mail?

Flagging an email message is just a way to help you find it later.  In the mac mail program, you can find flagged messages in a special folder.

My OS is windows 7.  I right click on the icon of the invalid file, check the scroll down menu select" Get Info". but this heading is not there. I have read I need to change the extension to "psd"

Use another program to open and save them like IrfanView or XnView. They may be genuinely damaged and unsalvagable, though...
