What is URL Monitoring for?

I was talking with a friend a couple of days ago and he told me that he had purchased a URL Monitoring system. He told me it was invaluable. I asked him what it did and all I got was some hi-tech lingo. What does one of these systems do?

I just googled the term and most of the answers seem to be something like this:
URL Monitoring Tool constantly monitors your apache or other type of web server and checks if your website or URL is up and running.Hopefully that's not too hi-tech of a lingo for you. But probably you don't run your own website (or you might have understood some of what your friend was saying), so you don't need one of these things.

If you are referring to the Google/Firefox home page with the Google search, a new version has been built-in to Firefox; it appears that Google is no longer maintaining their old page since the new built-in version is available in Firefox.
To get the new built-in default home page, change your home page to '''''about:home'''''

EDIT (Added): You can also type '''''about:home''''' in a blank tab to get the new page; you can then Bookmark that page, if you wish.

  • Need help finding a good monitor for a Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.0)

    Hi
I've owned Macs since the 90's - the past 7 years have been using Imacs...  I'm going to purchase a Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.0) with the Nvidia 6600LE card.  Whats a decent monitor for it?  It's DVI output only as far as I can tell - I want at least a 22 or 24 inch monitor and want a fairly inexpensive one as I'm a poor man (Social Security disability).  Can anyone suggest one - I can't tell what screen resolutions are optimal for the card (googled till my eyes hurt) if I knew that I could start hunting CompUSA, Sams Club, etc.

Check out newegg.com. I just got the same G5 you have this past summer and a couple months ago finally decided it was time to ditch the old 21" CRT Viewsonic Ive been using for years.
I picked up a 21" Acer widescreen HD LCD on sale for $119.00 from newegg and could not have been happier..
Ive never bought anything from Acer before but its so far got no complaints from me other then, the DVI cable they give you is the wrong type to use with your G5's video card. Lucky for me it had a DVI-VGA adapter so I could get running. Its running just fine at 1900x1200 without any dual link DVI connecter.
One thing I like about newegg is you get to read user reviews and they are not afraid to tell you if something is bad. Theyve always got different models and brands rotating on and off sale so check em out and make sure you check the reviews and you can find a killer deal.
I think the Viewsonics I looked at in the same size were around $199 or so.. I wouldve got one but Im a broke and jobless kinda guy nowadays so had to get one as cheap as I could..

  • Best Monitor for Photoshop??

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can suggest what the best monitors for photoshop digital painting/editing etc are at the moment??
I still use a crt as I've heard years ago that their colour depth were alot better than lcd's or tft's that were around then. I'd assume that's no longer the case. Can someone please suggest what the best monitors currently are?
I'm also considering using a 42 inch Pioneer PDP 4280XD full HD 1080P flatscreen Television as a monitor. Would anyone know how that would work in compared to a good quality monitor?
Thanks for any help in advance!

A 42" TV is not a good solution, innacurate colors, huge pixels.
Get a LCD, with a IPS or a MVA or PVA panel, with LED backlighting if you can afford it.
The 22" are usually TN  change color according to the angle of vision, and dither some colors. They are cheaper, but not a good choice (you said "best"
Lots of users go for  24" Dells, for the price and quality.
I use two 24" when I can, with one portrait, the other landscape. Useful when one uses bridge to keyword pictures, or simply to review photos the way they were shot.
Top of the crop are Eizo, NEC.
There are places with comparative tests...

I would like to use my iMac 7,1 as a monitor for my Mac mini 2012. Is that possible and if yes, what type of cable connection do I need? Thank you.

No. Your iMac only has DVI video connection. You would need an iMac with Thunderbolt.

  • 27" iMac as monitor for 8-core Mac Pro with Dual DVI card... what cables?

I have a Mac Pro 3 GHz 8-core Intel Xeon processor with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card with two DVI ports for output. One goes nicely to an external JVC monitor, but I would like to get the 27" iMac as a monitor for the Mac Pro. Has anyone heard of, or done this? What cables and connectors would be required?
    Cheers everyone.

    Actually that is only one solution. The converter is not a cable, but a black box. So you need the two cables I mentioned to make the whole process work;
Mac pro -> DVI to DVI cable -> DVI to m-DP converter -> m-DP to m-DP cable ->iMac
This article mentions the three that have come to market.
    http://lowendmac.com/ed/bashur/09db/dvi-to-mini-displayport.html
The first two are expensive and very expensive. The third does not appear to support content protection schemes, so a lot of new digital video sources would not make it to the iMac's display.

  • Best External Monitor for the DV SE 500 and what connections are needed?

    Hello everyone.
What do people think is a good LCD monitor for the slot loader iMac? (I'm here in UK with access to PC world and Currys, etc,)
I've never looked but I'm sure from other posts that I will have a connector under a panel round the back somewhere.
I've seen monitors for sale at various prices ranging from £120 to £250. I've also noticed that some come with a HDMI (?) cable that seems to big for the connection port on my Powerbook so I'm wondering if the iMac's port will also need some sort of adapter. Are there such things as mini HDMI's and normal HDMI's and can a cable/adapter be bought to solve the problem?
I really wanted a Mac display but from posts elsewhere I find that these need digital connections and neither my iMac nor my 550 Powerbook has digital out.
So - I'm assuming I need a monitor with an analogue connection - possibly together with an adapter cable.
I'm thinking no bigger than 19".
I'm also wondering if I should try to find one with a resolution that matches both my Macs - is this possible? I know the Powerbook will run displays of several resolutions (millions of colours) in display closed mode but I'm not sure what the iMac will support.
I've seen monitors quoting 1280x1024 as something called a native resolution. Is this important?
What do people think/advise? Many of you will have hooked up an external LCD monitor to your iMacs and will have cracked all these issues.
Can you help with some info please?
    Cheers to all, Russ

    Russ,
    1. The iMac G3 (>=400MHz) has a standard VGA port (15pin D-Sub) which is standard for analogue PC monitors.
    2. New LCD panels will either have a newer digital DVI connection (which current Apple Displays use) and/or use the older analogue VGA connection for wider compatibility.
    3. LCDs look sharpest in their native resolution. You can see this effect by changing the resolution down from the maximum on your TiBook. The display is still visible but less defined.
    4. As the iMac G3 can only "mirror" the internal display on to the external you may wish to look for an XGA (1024x768) panel. However, the Powerbook Ti can display a wide range of resolutions (see the full list in this link) in either "mirror" or "dual-display" mode.
The issue here is that a display that makes full advanatge of your Powerbook's capabilties is overkill for an iMac G3's limited capabilites.
    5. FYI, HDMI is a digital connection for Digital TVs. It is similar to DVI technology but carries sound data too.
    6. Here's a large selection for well under £150 (link).

  • Hi there, I'm thinking of buying both a new MacBook Pro and a small 22 inch LED tv for my kitchen... what would I need to be able to use (wireless of course) the tv as a monitor for the new computer? Apple tv? Airport Express? something else? Thanks.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

  • LG Monitor for video... or what else?

I'm interested to buy the LG L246WP 24" monitor, to use with my Kona 3 HDsdi, and the HDlink to DVI converter.
Has anyone used this monitor for critical HD monitoring?
Does anyone else have another suggestion that works well for critial LCD flat panel that won't break me?
    -Eric
    \

Concur with Z. as I usually do.
The words "critical" and "computer monitor" aren't ones that I might use in the same sentence.
For people who are just coming to this arena... this is an old debate, and a lot of water under the bridge, in fact, its water down the river, out to sea, evaporated, condensed as rainfall, run down the river again, and so on, several times.
Computer monitors are great for presenting text. Thats about it. They are way way way too bright, way way way too contrasty... they don't have anything to do with broadcast presentation at all.
Anything else is manufacturer bs designed to fleece you of your money. I don't even care about the signal processing LUT/signal-massaging boxes. You are, in effect, screwing up your good signal so that it will look roughly similar on the wrong monitor to what a clean send-through would look like on the right monitor.
Critical grading on a monitor that "looks good" is not the aim here. The monitor must speak the unvarnished truth, without intervention. It is up to you to make it "look good", and then it will BE good.

  • What is a cache monitoring? and what it is used for?

what is a cache monitoring? and what it is used for? how safe it is to execute the transaction RSRCACHE in development?
    Thank you,
    York

    Hi Les,
Cache is a temporary storage for recently accessed data.
    Used to enhance query performance.
Use t-code RSRT to view more on cache.
    Please see this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/41/b987eb1443534ba78a793f4beed9d5/content.htm
Cache helps to improve query performance. As it can save data in memory, flatfile, cluster table or BLOB.
You can remove cache per query or inactivate it for perticular info provider or inactivate it overall.
But which is not recommended. Yes if u know that certain queries you dont use often and its not accessing large number of records then you can inactivate it for those queries. you can manage cache via three t-codes RSRT or RSRCACHE or SPRO>SAP Reference IMG>SAP Busines Wearhouse--> Reporting relevent setting -->General Reporting Setting in BEX -->Global Cache Setting.
please follow the link which has few good documents on cache. which will clear your complete concept for cache.
https://service.sap.com/bi -->Product information previous releases -->BI InfoIndex --> OLAP --> you will get bunch of documents in that.
Look at the following threads :
    OLAP Cache
    what is cache?
also check RSRT and OLAP cahce docs

Thanks for the question Sandoss. This is something that we all come across at sometime.

The lack of this feature is an inexcusable oversight for an enterprise management product.  They have some serious lightweights making design decisions on the SCOM team. 5 thumbs down.
BTW the answer is probably LOTS of stuff. Literally 100's of workflows are running on any server.
The following OpsMgr DB query will list all running monitors on a server. Change the name of @srv. I think this works pretty well.  I'd like some feedback if something is missing.
    DECLARE @srv varchar(30)
SET @srv = 'your name here'
SELECT mon.displayName as monitor, bme.FullName,bme.DisplayName as object,
    case
        when s.HealthState = 1 then 'healthy'
        when s.HealthState = 2 then 'Warning'
        when s.HealthState = 3 then 'Critical'
        else 'N/A'
    end as Health
FROM state AS s WITH (NOLOCK)
left join BaseManagedEntity as bme WITH (NOLOCK) on s.basemanagedentityid = bme.basemanagedentityid
left join dbo.MonitorView Mon WITH (NOLOCK) on Mon.ID = s.monitorid
    where
    bme.FullName like '%' + @srv + '%'
    and s.HealthState <> 0
    and mon.IsInternalRollupMonitor = 0

  • What resolution do I need in an external monitor for my 15" G4 Powerbook?

Hello mac friends this is my first post I really hope someone can help me out. I need to get an external monitor for my 15 powerbook g4 1.67 w/ 64 mb graphics card. I can not find any monitor on the market whos' native resolution matches that of my g4 (1280x854). Do I need to match the native res? I ideally would like a widescreen b/w 20 and 23", though I am not crazy about the apple displays (mainly the $). I am trying to figure out what native res I need to be looking for in an external monitor, etc. Anyone who can advise would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks- Jon
    PowerBook G4 15inch 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   low res, 1.5gb ram

The fact that you don't need to match the native resolution disguises a great and valuable feature: Your PowerBook can drive monitors higher than its native resolution. Check the specifications for your PowerBook to see how high it can go. (There's a Specifications link at the top of this page.)
For example, my PowerBook G4 native resolution is also 1280x854 like yours. I bought a 20" Apple Cinema Display which is 1680x1050. Is that a problem? No, it's GREAT. Because I didn't just double my screen space, the external more than doubled it thanks to the ability of the PowerBook video card to go beyond the native resolution. My PowerBook's specs say I could run a monitor up to 2048 by 1536 pixels. (Many Windows laptops have the same capability.)
You can go to any computer store and buy just about any monitor that has a DVI or VGA port on it, that is within the resolution range for your PowerBook, and it will work. Dell, Samsung, NEC, etc. should all be OK if you want to save money. DVI is better and plugs in directly, but if you buy VGA, you will need to use the VGA-DVI adapter that came with your PowerBook.
