What is werbung?  Is this a virus?

I have a blank window that's come up twice in two days while using Safari; it just says "Werbung" on the gray title bar.  Is this a virus? How do I get rid of it?  (BTW: I am *not* using German for any other program - don't know what it means.)  Pls help - I'm new to Macs and am nervous.  Thx!

This is the only thing I can find:  http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/823911  I have a Mail.com account, but *NEVER* click on any links that look suspicious/have fishy return addresses, or that I don't expect from my friends.  BUT... this is the only thing that appears related.  Now, what do I do to fix it on my MBP?

1 January 1970 appears in my contacts as a duplication even though I have not added them myself, is this a virus? What should I do?

In my contacts, several contacts that I actually know have been duplicated using only the first name in this duplication. Also in the duplication, the birthday and  anniversary are listed as 1 January 1970. I have not made these duplications...they have just appeared. Does this mean I have a virus? And if I do what should I do?

My Macbook pro is acting Crazy....the Cursor just keeps on jumping everywhere and not responding when I use the trackpad....Even when it does respond it is very slow...I thought it was the trackpad acting up but realized it wasnt when i plugged in a mouse and it still did the same thing...this happened one other time and shortly after my computer froze...I had to restart for it to work but restarting dosent help this time...can someone please help?...Is this a Virus?

It is not a virus.  See my Mac Virus Guide*.
As to what it might be, that's hard to say.  You should try some basic troubleshooting...  Repair the hard drive with disk utility.  Boot in safe mode and see if it happens then, log in to a different user account and see if it happens there, reboot from another system and see if it happens.
Apparently some people have had this kind of problem caused by swelling batteries that push on the underside of the trackpad and cause all kinds of strange problems.  Is your machine's underside deformed at all?

If you have anti virus software installed, try disabling that and try turning off the Firewall.

  • What is the best protection against virus

what is best protection against any virus.

what is best protection against any virus.
    You.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver "free" movies or other copyrighted content that is not normally "free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • I keep getting this pop up that says why you no play candy crush is this a virus?

I keep getting this pop up that says why you no play candy crush is this a virus?  How do I get rid of it?  It has an option to click on cancel or ok.  I keep clicking cancel.

That's not what it is.  I have just started getting the exact same pop-up, and I am using a 5th gen. iPod Touch.  It can't receive carrier messages, being that it only has WiFi access to the internet.
What is happening to me is this:  I start playing the TicBits "Sudoku " app.  A couple of minutes into the game, the app starts getting sluggish, and cannot keep up with my fingers... I touch the screen, and it takes longer and longer for the game to respond to my touches while trying to fill in the numbers in the sudoku puzzle.  Eventually, this stupid pop-up interrupts.  If I hit cancel, it might pop up two or three more time in a row.  If I hit OK, it pulls up the app store (I have just immediately hit the home button and restarted the sudoku game up to this point, but I will try to remember to let it take me all the way to the app it is trying to sell next time so I can report back, but I assume it's going to try to get me to download Candy Crush Saga).
I do not have Candy Crush installed nor do I want to install it).  I am worried that this is some kind of malicious software, given how badly it affects the Sudoku app.  I don't have any interesting information on my iPod Touch for a virus to steal other than the password to my Apple ID when I need to use the App Store or iTunes.
I have turned off Alerts for all apps other than Clock and Caendar, as I need those for appointment and alarm reminders.  Nothing else should be allowed to use these alert pop-ups.

It looks like you deleted one or more fonts that the System requires. Those fonts are located in /System/Library/Fonts and are:
    Apple LiGothic Medium.dfont
    AppleGothic.dfont
    AquaKanaBold.otf
    AquaKanaRegular.otf
    Courier.dfont
    Geneva.dfont
    Helvetica.dfont
    Keyboard.dfont
    LastResort.dfont
    LucidaGrande.dfont
    Monaco.dfont
    Osaka.dfont
    OsakaMono.dfont
    Symbol.dfont
    Times.dfont
    ZapfDingbats.dfont
If you can read what's in that directory and are missing any of them, then you need to reinstall the missing fonts. If you can't read any of them but are missing any based on the total count, you will need to reinstall all of them.
You can download Pacifist and use that to browse the packages on your install discs to find the fonts that go in that folder and install just that item. Or, if you post your email address in the form of emailaddress (at) domain.com, I can email a .zip file to you.

If you have a frame labelled "2" then it should be:
    on (release) {
        this._parent.gotoAndPlay("2");
or other wise just the following to go to frame 2:
    on (release) {
         this._parent.gotoAndPlay(2);

     Hi,
One of my ex-colleagues has installed a NI-DAQ 6.5 in our system. [And I do not see any other naitional instruments card in the CPU of the computer, may be he removed it] I deleted the account and all his files in the system. When I am trying to install version8.0, its not getting installed and giving me a message that I should uninstall the previous version by going to Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
I tried doing that, but the "Change/Remove" button does not seem to work...[There is no response and so unable to install the new version...]
Any idea how can this problem be solved?
It is a windowsXP operating system with SP2 installed on a machine with P4 processor.
