What is work process

What is Process ? For SYnchronous and Asynchronous updates where do data store temporarly ? and for local update also?
Regards,
Prasad

hi,
<b>work process</b>
Work processes execute the individual dialog steps in R/3 applications. The next two sections describe firstly the structure of a work process, and secondly the different types of work process in the R/3 System.
<b>Types of Work Process</b>
<b>Dialog Work Process</b>
Dialog work processes deal with requests from an active user to execute dialog steps.
<b>Update Work Process</b>
Update work processes execute database update requests. Update requests are part of an SAP LUW that bundle the database operations resulting from the dialog in a database LUW for processing in the background.
<b>Background Work Process</b>
Background work processes process programs that can be executed without user interaction (background jobs).
<b>Enqueue Work Process</b>
The enqueue work process administers a lock table in the shared memory area. The lock table contains the logical database locks for the R/3 System and is an important part of the SAP LUW concept. In an R/3 System, you may only have one lock table. You may therefore also only have one application server with enqueue work processes.
<b>Spool Work Process</b>
The spool work process passes sequential datasets to a printer or to optical archiving. Each application server may contain only one spool work process.
The services offered by an application server are determined by the types of its work processes. One application server may, of course, have more than one function. For example, it may be both a dialog server and the enqueue server, if it has several dialog work processes and an enqueue work process.
You can use the system administration functions to switch a work process between dialog and background modes while the system is still running. This allows you, for example, to switch an R/3 System between day and night operation, where you have more dialog than background work processes during the day, and the other way around during the night.
hope it will help u

  • Work process in SAP BW

    Hi All,
I want to know about work processes in SAP BW, as today some ODS activations got failed with the reason" no batch process available".
Is there any documents for these work process .(like what is work process, how to main them, etc..)
    Thanks
    Raju M

    Hi,
now i am also getting same problem while activating DSO.
no batch process available means multiple users working on DSO activation.
check the SM51 how many back ground process available based on you can assign the back ground process to your DSO.
right click on the DSO -> go to manage - > select activate -> pop up window will come -> again select the parallel process -> give the process ex- 3 or 2 .
again refresh it will come red to yellow  and until wait finish the DSO activation.
    Thanks,
    Phani.

  • What is the process for connecting ethernet.  Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left.  Note Airport wireless is working.

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet?  I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player.  The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message.  The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it.  The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet.  Thank you.  /  cfpirate

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
    After restarting, it worked.
    Thanks!

  • In Dialog server, what type of work process can I use.

    Dear all,

    regards,
    satish

    Hi,
you can use dialog, BTC, U1 , U2 and spool

  • What is the Max Number of Total Work Process that we can Have on  One C.I

    Hi,
What is the Max Number of Total Work Process that we can have on a Single C.I
Is there any Limit that We can only have Perticular Number of Total work process ?
Or it is just Unlimited number of total work process
    Thanks & Regards
    Dan.

from the system throughput point of view a rule of a thumb is:
1 up to 4 sometimes 5 workprocesses per CPU.
(one is used in Benchmarks where you have a very small number of transactions running with a small amount of database accesses)
you can easily find it out:
configure 4 WPs per CPU. If you have a number of WP's consuming nearly no CPU time you can reduce the number of WPs.
    regards
    Peter

  • What are the Minimum Number of Dia or BTC Work Process should be Configured

    Hi All,
Can any One Let me Know why We need to Have 2 Minimum Dialog Work Process and not 1 or 3.
What are the Task does this 2 Minimum work process handles in CI.
    Thanks & Regards
    Dan

You need more than on if the system needs e. g. generate a program, this is done asynchronously, one process "waits" while a second generates a program. This is the absolute minimum, if you have only 1, you will stuck at the first time, the system needs to generate.

  • HT201250 I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was?

I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was? I want to make sure I will still have various important files on my new computer, like my songs in iTunes, my photos in iPhoto, etc, etc. Thanks so much in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. • Work processes ended by itself

    Hi all
Yesterday, in our BI system, all of a sudden in the evening all our work processes went into the end state and the system froze.
We did not issue a endsap or anything like that.
We tried looking into the files but are not sure what exactly happened.
    In the DSPLOG QHST,
We see the work proocess WP00 ended abnormally and then everything went down after that.
We saved the files to investigate.
Here is the trace file for WP00 :

    Hi Ingrid
Thanks a lot for the response.
That parameter is right now set to "0".
But on reading the documentation for that parameter, it says you should change it only if SAP recommends you to do so.
We checked in our other systems as well and all that is set to "0" as well.
Will that be Ok to change the parameter to a different value?
If yes, what is the value to be used?
    Thanks a lot

  • Problem with Sharepoint and IIS worker process

My problem is, that the first load and login of a sharepoint sites takes each about 20 s - afterwards the site works fine. I have identified the IIS worker process as possible reason. This is what's happening:
I can see the IIS worker process w3wp.exe (the one for the application pool of the SP site) is beeing created. It is growing
in size and taking about 20-25% CPU load. After w3wp.exe reaches about 400 MB memory it seems to have finished, and CPU load goes back. Also the site has a normal response times after that.
The same thing happens, when the worker process is recycled for example - the new creation of the process takes too long.
What is Sharepoint doing during this first load - why is the creation of the IIS worker process taking so long? Can anybody give me some hints on how to speed this up?

You are correct that in order to add an authentication type, the user would have to select an authentication method before authenticating (this page can be customized to your needs, of course). Since you're only loading the login page with the script, that
    won't initialize most controls.
You could extend the Web Application to another Zone that is Windows authentication only (and in fact, Search can only crawl a zone that has Windows authentication enabled -- typically the Default Zone).

  • Background Job Hanged but no work process assigned

    Hi,
Background job has hanged When i see in SM37. But no work process assigned to this job. All work process are waiting status.
What could be the reason. What is the resolution process.
    Thanks,
    Dayakar

How did you come to a conclusion that the bg job is hangend.
What is the status of the job. ? I guess  Job defined, but not yet eligible to run even if the start condition has been fulfilled so it should be in Scheduled status.

  • What are these processes and how do I prevent them?

For many years, many have complained of external drives that are in standby/sleep spinning up for no apparent reason.  From the user's point of view this is unnecesssary, but to make matters worse, the system usually stops everything else while waiting for the drives.
I have a Mac mini that I use as a home theater pc.  The media and backups are on a 5-bay enclosure (no RAID) attached by USB.  While watching a video, the unused drives will go into standby mode, which is good.  But then, with no user activity, they will spin up, freezing the video and everything else, which is not good.  As these are slow drives and spin up sequentially, this can take 10-20 seconds.  This may happen once or twice an hour, but sometimes more frequently.
In looking into the causes, I have turned off time Machine (after putting these drives into the Privacy section for good measure).  I also prevented Spotlight and fsevents logging with the following:
    mdutil -i off /Volumes/<drive1> /Volumes/<drive2> . . .
cd /Volumes/<drive1 and then repeat for other drives>
         rm -rf .fseventsd .Spotlight-*
         mkdir .fseventsd
         touch .fseventsd/no_log .metadata_never_index
As far as I can tell this has worked to stop those processes from accessing the drives after they are mounted, but the problem persists.  To find out what else might be causing them to wake up:
    sudo fs_usage -w | grep -e Volumes/<drive1> -e /Volumes/<drive2> . . .
and here is what I found last night (actually didn't use the -w last night, thus it is cut off):
    18:35:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/XBMC         0.000026   SSDragHelper
    18:35:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/Stuff        0.000006   SSDragHelper
    18:35:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/DatOptic_3   0.000005   SSDragHelper
    18:35:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/MacBackUp    0.000003   SSDragHelper
    18:36:15  fsgetpath   /Volumes/XBMC         0.000026   System Prefe
    18:36:15  fsgetpath   /Volumes/Stuff        0.000004   System Prefe
    18:36:15  fsgetpath   /Volumes/DatOptic_3   0.000003   System Prefe
    18:36:15  fsgetpath   /Volumes/MacBackUp    0.000003   System Prefe
    18:55:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/XBMC         0.000034   GoogleSoftwa
    18:55:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/Stuff        0.000004   GoogleSoftwa
    18:55:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/DatOptic_3   0.000003   GoogleSoftwa
    18:55:36  fsgetpath   /Volumes/MacBackUp    0.000003   GoogleSoftwa
After looking into the Google process, I was surprised to find the tentacles that Google puts into your system, and ripped every bit of it out that I could.  But I have no idea about what's going on with SSDragHelper and System Prefe (presumable System Preferences).  This must be OS X itself?  What are these processes doing, and is there any way to prevent them from accessing these disks in this way?

Thanks for the reply Hen3ry.  Looks like you've done a lot of investigation.  For me, fs_usage entries accompanying spindown are not problems - I'm happy if the drives spin down.  My problem is the spinups.  But still, I don't think it is necessary to time the fs_usage entries with spinups.  If you grep for the drives you're concerned about, you will see any process that would potentially wake them up.
Because my understanding is limited, I also am more concerned with the process/application that is accessing the drives than with the functions or commands they are sending.  And the values that are returned by those functions are way beyond what I can deal with.
It's interesting that you've found a difference between your old and new drives.  Could you specify the enclosure and drives in each case?
The StorageStatus app looks interesting; thanks for the tip.
Here's a summary of what I've done so far, which I think is working.  I need a few more weeks to know for sure.
How to prevent unwanted drive spin-ups
If you are actively using the computer that the enclosure is attached to, nothing on God’s green earth will stop OS X from waking them up after some user action, even ones that seem to have nothing to do with the external drives.  But if you leave the computer alone while some application is running, like watching a movie or downloading a file, you have a fighting chance of coaxing OS X into leaving the uninvolved drives alone.
If the drives are shared with any other computers over a network, eject them on those computers
Otherwise, OS X (AppleFileServer) will poll them every 10 seconds.  This might not be bad if you want to just keep the drives spinning and the other computer stays awake.
    Third-party apps
Make sure no apps are running that might access your drives.  Google runs some processes that do this (maybe I’m naïve, but I was so shocked I removed chrome and every other trace of Google from my Mac mini system). Another is iStat and any utility that monitors SMART status in the background.
Don’t let Spotlight index or search the drives
Spotlight is persistent, and it may be necessary to take a variety of steps to stop its various processes (mds, mdworker) from accessing the drives and waking them up.  In other words, kill it, drive a stake through its heart, then burn the body:
In System Preferences > Spotlight, add the drives to the Privacy pane.
Add a file called .metadata_never_index to the root of each drive (note the leading period).  The easiest way to do this is in Terminal
    touch /Volumes/<drive1>/.metadata_never_index
Tell Spotlight AGAIN to keep away from the drive:
    mdutil -i off /Volumes/<drive1> /Volumes/<drive2> . . .
Finally delete the Spotlight folder from the drive.
    rm -rf /Volumes/<drive1>.Spotlight-*
Stop fseventsd from logging in the drive
This is easy, just putting a no_log file in its folder.  I have found that rarely it still writes some files in there, but it doesn’t seem to do so when it causes problems, so . . .
              rm –rf /Volumes/<drive1>/.fseventsd/*
         touch /Volumes/<drive1>/.fseventsd/no_log
    Finder sidebar
Some people say that if the drives show in the Sidebar of Finder windows, the Finder will be checking them.  I’m not sure. But to be safe, in Finder Preferences > Sidebar, uncheck External Disks.
Just say no to Time Machine
On the home theater mac itself, regular backups shouldn’t be needed.  You should be able to just turn Time Machine off.  However, it is probably sufficient to simply open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options and add the drives to the list of locations to exclude from backup.
Second, local backups can be disabled with
    sudo tmutil disablelocal
    Look for other culprits
If the problem persists, use fs_usage, which generates a real-time log of filesystem activity. There is so much going on that you need to use grep to restrict the output to entries that involve your drives. The entries that accompany your drive spin-ups are the ones you really want.
    sudo fs_usage -w | grep -e Volumes/<drive1> -e /Volumes/<drive2> . . .
Now leave the keyboard and mouse alone, as many things you might do will cause the drives to be accessed. You probably want to find what does it when you’re not actively interacting with the computer.  It’s not really necessary to wait for your drives to sleep and see what wakes them.  Any activity you see would probably wake the drives if they were asleep.  When you see some activity and want to stop and examine, type Control-C to stop the output.  On the far right of each entry is the process or application that accessed the disks.
    I got pointers from http://system-log.tyr.org.uk/2012/01/31/how-to-stop-usb-drives-from-spinning-up- unnecessarily-on-os-x-lion/ and http://www.jackenhack.com/disk-that-refuses-to-sleep-in-mac-os-x-how-to-fix-it/

  • ERROR MESSAGE sap system manager:work process restarted, session terminated

    Hi,
i am a beginer in SAP administration, users are getting this error message and i have done all my research and not able to resolve this issue. Here are the details
    SAP Version :ideas 4.7
    Database :Oracle
    OS : windows 2003
Module user is working on MM
user working on it is a Super user with all the permissions
SAP is configure to run under the  European date and decimal format.
I have never done any database administration on it, it is a new install and has been rarely used.
User creates a RFQ and when he tries saving it , seems like for the first time after either restarting the macine or restarting the service it might work and at time it might not, this is a very sporadic error and most of the times it crashes out with the message "sap system manager:work process restarted, session terminated" and kicks the user out of the session.
Below are the details of the error message from ST22 :
name of the runtime error : system_core_dumped
below are the details of the error message and its resoltion as suggested by sap help :
    ========
    Runtime Errors         SYSTEM_CORE_DUMPED
           Occurred on     01.02.2008 at 07:52:19
Process terminated by signal " ".
    What happened?
The current ABAP program had to be terminated because the
ABAP processor detected an internal system error.
The current ABAP program "SAPLCLSC" had to be terminated because the ABAP
processor discovered an invalid system state.
    What can you do?
Make a note of the actions and input which caused the error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
    date.
    Error analysis
An SAP System process was terminated by an operating system signal.
                                                                                    Possible reasons for this are:
    1. Internal SAP System error.
    2. Process was terminated externally (by the system administrator).

    How to correct the error
The SAP System work directory (e.g. /usr/sap/c11/D00/work ) often
    contains a file called 'core'.
Save this file under another name.
If you cannot solve the problem yourself, please send the
    following documents to SAP:
    1. A hard copy print describing the problem.
To obtain this, select the "Print" function on the current screen.
                                                                                    2. A suitable hardcopy prinout of the system log.
To obtain this, call the system log with Transaction SM21
and select the "Print" function to print out the relevant
       part.
    3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,

  • DB2 9.5: SAP Work Process Restart Issue

We just upgraded to DB2 9.5 from DB 8.x. Currently we are having problems with the work process on SAP R/3 4.7 Ext 200. We are seeing the following entry in the work process log:
M  ThWpRestart: restart wp (pid=1988) automatically
    B
    B Mon Mar 30 00:14:09 2009
    B  Disconnecting from ALL connections:
B  Wp  Hdl ConName          ConId     ConState     TX  PRM RCT TIM MAX OPT Date     Time   DBHost
    B  025 000 R/3              000000000 INACTIVE     NO  YES NO  000 255 255 20090329 190208
After this entry the work process hangs and it does not get reconnect to the database. Looking at the database snapshots we are not seeing any PID of the work process. We are currently running non-unicode kernel 247. Any come across a problem like this?

Sounds strange - any special activities running at that time ? E.g. a backup ? Do you see that on all application servers ?
How to you resolve this situation ?
What does the db2diag.log show for that time frame ?
    Malte

    follow the steps:

    2.start the listener
3.open your alert<SID>log.ora file to see the ongoing changes to file
4.logon with user who has oracle/dba credentials
5.start the database in parts .....
    6.at SQL>startup nomount .. then
7.SQL>alter database mount ... see what is writing to logfile
8.SQL>alter database open.... see the alertlogfile for errors - FIX yourself or send it to forum if u need help.
9.If you are able to make database up& running then your sap should start without issues.
