What is wrong with my 2 month old Mac book pro retina?
I bought a new 13 inch Mac book pro Retina at the end of May 2013. I have been to the apple store and called apple care several times. Now things are very bad. It would crash and give me a white screen every so often but over the last week things have gotten very bad. It will crash with the white screen, browsers and applications all close unexpectedly - it started with firefox then safari, then mail then face book, then adobe and finally iphoto and picassa. I did send in the reports. Also if I had a picture in i-photo my picassa program is set up to grab all pictures - recently any pictures that have been grabbed it says the files are corrupted. I keep having trouble with the air port utility in that it can't find the wireless network and or the time capsuel even though it can be wireless or plugged in by ethernet. I called apple care and got this very nice tech guy and he tried many different fixes and said he thought the hard drive would need to be replaced so got an appointment to take my computer in. They ran two tests and said everything is fine with the computer it must be the software. So now I'm supposed to get apple care to help me try and save all my data on flash drives! Can't back it up on time capsuel cause he said it would just back up the problem. So this seems overwhelming and I'm so upset. Well, then I thought about it and my old mac book in which all the data and software was transferred from hasn't been erased as I was having so many issues I hadn't done that yet. So my question is if it was the software, wouldn't it be making my older mac book do the same thing? What is wrong with my New Computer? As of tonight, I can't even open anything it gives a quick flash of trying to open and closes so the computer is totally useless - so no idea how to get the data off that is most recent. Apple says they cannot help cause it is a software program but now I have a 2 month old computer whish is useless. Any thoughts?
Call Apple and make a appointment.
You have 3 months of care and up to 3 years with paid AppleCare, let them handle it and bring everything in.
Good Luck

What about my existing software like parallels on my old mac book pro when I want to use that software on a new mac book pro I am ready to buy ???
Your new MacBook Pro won't run PPC programs. For Parallels you need to update to the latest version 7.

What OSX should I use on my 2009 MAC Book Pro? Will Yosemite run
Hi I have a Mac Book Pro from 2009 and I was wondering what OSX should I use on my 2009 MAC Book Pro? Will Yosemite run properly on this computer?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Mac supports OS X Yosemite. If you need to upgrade your Mac, do it, but if you are happy with the OS X version you are running or you do not like changes (OS X Yosemite has got an interface change), you can keep it always that it is not very old.
In order to upgrade to OS X Yosemite, it is as simple as opening the Mac App Store and downloading OS X Yosemite. When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow its steps. Before upgrading, it is important to make a backup of your files with Time Machine -> Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support You can also check that your applications are compatible with Yosemite in this website -> http://www.roaringapps.com
OS X Yosemite should run properly, but I recommend you to run it with at least 4 GB of RAM (you can check how much RAM you have in the Apple menu -> About this Mac). In case Yosemite runs slowly, the backup you made will let you go back to your old version. -

I have an old Mac book pro which had hundreds of photos in iphoto. recently bought a new mac book air. now my iphoto library on the old mac book is gone!!!!
now my iphoto library on the old mac book is gone!!!!
How did you search for the iPhoto Library?
What do you mean by "is gone"? Is the iPhoto Library missing from the Pictures folder? Or does iPhoto launch and show and empty library, and you assume, that the library is missing?
Which version of iPhoto is installed on your old Mac?
Search with Find Any File for iPhoto Libraries - download Find Any File here: The trial is free:
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.htmlhttp://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it. -
I wonder if Apple took up the old mac book pro if we bought a new one, and if yes so how much? I have a 2009.
If the old MBP is working, try selling it. However, so that both you and the buyer can avoid sleepless nights, please review this Apple article:
What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
It omits one important thing if the computer came with a OS version older than Lion 10.7: be sure to include the original install disks. Otherwise the buyer may not be able to use the computer and come looking for his money. -
Greetings
I was wondering what the steps and cautions are to upgrade from OSX 10.4.11 on an old Mac Book Pro (2nd computer for shared use in household for emails, etc.) 2.33 Inel Core 2 Duo to OSX 10.6.8 or highest that I can?You will need to get a 10.6 Snow Leopard retail disk which I don't think are still available from Apple.
Google "buy mac 10.6 snow leopard" to get an idea of current pricing. You'll need updates to10.6.8 in order to upgrade to 10.7 (the early core duo MBPros can not do this) or possibly 10.8 but check the exclusion list to be sure.

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your Mac and into iTunes.

Once you have successfully done that you can go ahead and choose Erase and Sync when you plug your iPod in.
