What is wrong with my wifi ?

I lived in one city and had both IMac and Ipad working next to each other. I moved the next city, lived in a hotel for a month both were working fine.
We finally moved to our new home and now my iPad does not recognize the wifi anymore.
It worked fine for a week or so. Than is stopped. I went on a holiday and when i came back it worked fine again, for a week or so and now it stopped again.
we have comcast as our provider. Are they they the problem or is my I Pad the problem?? please help.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • What's wrong with my wifi network?

I recently upgraded my internet from DSL to Comcast Wireless Gateway (cable modem + wireless router) in order to improve speed.  It has certainly done that.  My previous (DSL) download speed was approximately 2.5Mbps.  Now it’s 54Mbps with the cable modem.
However I live in an old, 2-story house with thick plaster walls, and when I get any distance at all from my cable modem, my WiFi Signal-to-Noise goes from 70+db to 10db or less.  I’m measuring this using the Apple utility "Wifi Diagnostics".  I can walk around my house with a Macbook Air and watch the SNR change from room to room - very handy.
I understood from other forums here that I can use my Airport Extreme to extend my wireless network as long as I connect it to my Comcast Wireless Gateway (CWG) using a wired (Ethernet cable) connection.  I’ve done that.  I ran a Ethernet cable between the CWG and AE.  I configured the AE, using Airport Utility (by editing the AE settings once Airport Utility “saw” the AE) to extend the network, and gave it the same network name and password as the one I set up for the CWG.
This all seemed to work fine.  The AE shows up in Airport Utility below the “world” globe labeled, “Internet”, and it says among other things, connection: Excellent, status: Extended Network.  All good, right?
Unfortunately this configuration does not seem to have any effect on the strength of my WiFi signal.  i.e., I can place my Macbook Air within several feet of the AE (several rooms away from the CWG) and the SNR is still only about 10db.
What's going on, what am I doing wrong?  ear in mind, I’m a complete networking novice.

After posting the above question, I came across the following post:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/17978428#17978428
I ended up redoing my configuration using the steps described in the post for setting up a "roaming" set of routers (repeated here):
Connect the two routers together with a long ethernet cable. If the building is prewired with data ports (ethernets cables in the wall) then use those connection points to patch over the connection between the routers. Plug one end of the cable into a LAN port of the router connected to the DSL/Cable modem, in your case the TalkTalk router. The other end of the cable is plugged into the remotely located router's WAN port, the AirPort Extreme. Plug the power into both routers.
Plug your computer's ethernet port, that has AirPort Utility software installed on it, into the remote router's LAN port using an ethernet cable.
Open AirPort Utility from the Applications>Utility folder.
Select your AirPort Extreme base station and then the edit button on the balloon window that pops up.
    Select the Wireless tab
Set the Network Mode to "Create a wireless network"
Set the Wireless Network Name to the same name as the existing wireless network using the same letter case used on that network. This is also called the SSID in some routers.
Set the Wireless Security and Wireless Password to be the same as the existing wireless network.
    Select the Network tab
Set the Router Mode to Off(Bridge Mode)
    Select Update
After completing these steps I unplugged my Airport Extreme from my computer, unplugged power, and moved it to a remote location (still connected to my Comcast Wireless Gateway with an ethernet cable).  I plugged it into AC power, waited for the green light, and then tested my wi-fi signal-to-noise ratio with the Apple "Wi-Fi Diagnostics" utility.  As I walked toward the Airport Extreme with my Macbook Air I could watch the SNR increase to 40-50 db.  So, now working as I had hoped.

    iPhone 4s doesn't work?  Help

Same issue here... iphone5S 64GB.  It's intermittent.  Sometimes the rotation works fine, sometimes it doesn't, but most of the time it doesn't work.
The first time I figured out it wasn't working was when all newly-taken photos and videos were showing up in portrait mode though I always hold in landscape mode when photographing.
Rotation lock is disabled (tried toggling it on and off).  Tried recalibrating the compass on a whim, no effect (although my compass seems to always require calibration when it's launched now).
This issue only started happening after upgrading to iOS8.  I did a reset/restore through iTunes rather than an OTA upgrade.
UPDATE - power-cycling the phone seems to fix it temporarily.

    Hey aries35,
I found the following that goes over troubleshooting the same issue for the iPhone. I know you have an iPad, but the steps should still apply:
    Perform the following steps:
    Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

    You're welcome.
Voicemail is left at your carrier's server. That will continue to work unless you report your iPhone as lost or stolen with your carrier.
You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception.

  • I was just using my iPod this morning. I turned it off after using it, but when i opened it in the afternoon, i couldn't connect to my wifi anymore. I tried resetting the network but it still didn't work. I wonder what is wrong with it?

My ipod 4th generation can't connect to my wifi. I was just using it this morning. I turned it off for awhile but when i opened it in the afternoon, it just won't connect to my wifi. My wifi is ok 'cause i am able to use my mac. I wonder what is wrong with it?

    - Do other devices successfully connect using your network?
    - Does the iPod successfully connect to other networks?
    - Reset the iPod . Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

What is wrong with the app store and how long before its fixed, im downloading atna very slow pash and i have a 10mb uncontested line.

Sorry, its on both my iphone 4s (2 iphones) and ipad2 that the app store is slow, I have done all the above and still when i download a 1 mb app it take about a half a hour just to download and previously it wasn't even a second. When browsing the web the devices are fast and internet speed is good, but when going in to app store it takes long to load and show me the new app, updates, featured app ect. We watch movie online and the streaming is brilliant. Even on my windows pc the app store is slow and sometimes says that i store could not be opened, i have also tried on my buddies wifi and there it does exactly the same which makes me think that its on apples side, but why do you not have any problems?

Prior to upgrading to Mavericks, you must make sure you meet ALL of its system requirements.

  • I used to able to watch movies, TV series on youtube for more than 20 minute straight. In last few days, somehow it stopped after only 1-2 minutes. What is wrong with my iPhone 4S? I even updated youtube.

That would indicate an issue with the local network, not internet. This can impact devices differently and will likely be more obvious on a streaming only device.
If you are on wifi try ethernet
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
Go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

  • What's wrong with my browsers?

When i first got my macbook the internet was going really slow but then i changed the dns server to 4.2.2.2 and sometimes change it to 4.2.2.1 and the internet got better but now my browsers are acting funny.
One moment i'm surfing webpages with safari or firefox.... Chatting with AdiumX or MS Messenger... and suddenly it just stops... Msn is getting time-out's, Safari says I'm not connected.
But Airport sais it is still connected to my wireless network (with all the black bar's filled). It has valid IP adress etc, But everywhere I want to go on the internet it sais I'm not connected.
When I disconnect the airport en let it reconnect with my wireless network, the connection is fine.
    how can i fix this?

Most users shouldn't be manually entering DNS addresses, and those DNS addresses you mention probably aren't intended for end users. Is Level3 your ISP?
That doesn't answer 'what's wrong with my browsers?', but a good start would be to configure your network according to your ISP's instructions. If you have DNS problems then, you might try using OpenDNS.

  • What's wrong with networking since Leopard?

    Hi,
I'm with Mac since years. I was a PC User once and spent hours with all kinds of network troubles. What convinced me with Mac right in the beginning was easy networking: It just worked!
But since Leopard things got worse: I have several MBP's, iMacs, Airport Extreme's and Airport Express's at different places which I installed, and I face the same problems at EVERY place:
    - I can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility, ...
    - Sometimes only two Macs are allowed to connect to one AExtreme
    - Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
    - After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
    - Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    - connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Now I know about networking, about configuration, I've done this for years. Whatever I do, problems disappear and appear again, at different times, at different places with different hardware.
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.

What's wrong with networking since Leopard?
on my network and many i have setup there have been no problems with leopard. However there are always teething problems with new operating systems. Thankfully with leopard only a tiny percentage of users experience technical difficulties.
can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility,
is it set to use WPA/WPA2
Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
sometimes my macbook pro takes a while to show up any networks if there are lots in the area this is because it is scanning them all.
After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
What kind of router are you using? What happens if you powercycle the router?
    # Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    # connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Have you tried resetting your AE to default. reinstalling its firmware or checking for a firmware update?
Have you tried changing hte wireless channel your networ is broadcasting on?
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.
Did you upgrade install your leopard installation or did you do clean (erase) installations?
Have you tried created new network locations?

  • What's Wrong with My Computer?

I have a G5 desktop computer, I believe it's referred to as a "Power Mac." My mom purchased it some years ago, I think in late 2005 shortly after this particular model was on the market.
    Info is:
    Version 10.5.8
    Processor 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
    Memory 4.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
    Hard Drive 240 GB (127 GB unused/available)
My mother wasn't using this computer for many years, and my 13" Macbook was giving me trouble, so she gave this one to me. It's all been great (she maxed out the memory and hard drive space when she bought it, even though it is outdated and insignificant compared to current models), except for one little thing... Browsing the internet is usually fine when it's only one window, but not always. However, it is almost a guarantee that while trying to operate multiple windows and trying to play a video, Safari will crash. And not just once in awhile. I'm talking about on a daily basis. During regular offline computer use, like Photoshop or iTunes, the computer will sometimes grey over (as if someone put a fairly thick grey film over the entire screen), and tell me I have to restart the computer. So what's wrong with it? I presume it is a physical issue (failing memory, mother board, etc.), but what?

Your computer is not remotely "maxed out" with RAM.
You're describing a G5 Quad like mine (though mine was built in June of 2006), and maxed out means having 16 GB of RAM installed, like mine has.
    The Frolick wrote:

That's called a Kernel Panic, and, yes, it is most often caused by hardware problems, such as bad RAM or mismatched RAM.  I can't imagine how you get to 4.5 GB of RAM without exponentially increasing the risk of mismatched RAM.
RAM has to be installed in matched pairs, starting from the center slots and spreading outward: 4*3*2*1*1*2*3*4
On the other hand, my own personal experience has led me to conclude that Safari is a piece of cr@p.  It causes problems just being active in the background, causing other applications to fail.
Check your RAM carefully, starting with just one pair of matched RAM sticks in the two center slots, then adding one pair at a time.  Check your hard disk with Apple's Disk Utility.
The kernel panics can be caused by a damaged directory too, so if you own Disk Warrior, run it.  If you don't own DiskWarrior, at least Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility and use Verify Disk/Repair Disk with it.
I'd also recommend downloading and installing Applejack and run it according to the instructions.
    Good luck.
