  • What's your favourite game on the Sony PlayStation?

    My favourite game has to be Street Fighter Alpha 3. One of the best beat em up games I ever played! Loved the World Tour mode! Soundtrack and gameplay was top notch. Shame Capcom has no plans for Street Fighter Alpha 4. So what's your favourite game on the Sony PlayStation?

    Seems like one of those questions that always gets asked to open a debate but find that everyone has already answered countless times.  Nevermind though, as a newbe I'll give it a go. Not an easy one to answer.  I like Fifa 2002 and of course Grand Turismo 2 plus Driver. Recently found a couple of games in a skip and in our local library about 40 PS1 games in their CD recycling box.  Still trying to find manuals for them.

  • What's your favourite compressor tool?

    Although I think Logic Compressor does a fairly nice job and can be useful in many occasions, I'm now looking to expand my dynamics department.
    I'd like to know what's your favourite compressor and why?
    I quite like the Sonalksis SV-315. what's your opinion on that?
    Plus I'm looking for something similar to the Jomeek SC2 Photo Optical Compressor that is available for pro-tools. Any suggestions?
    Your help is very much appreciated.

    I was about to start a new thread asking about the nomad factory plug ins, but I figured I'd ask it here since it's related and you're already talking on the topic.
    so I've been getting into work on my new MBP.. enjoying it so far. one thing I knew I'd miss on this machine was my UAD plugs. I've got the sonalksis plugs which are giving me some reliable eq and dynamics. but I really want more choice than just the logic comp and one other one.. I'm really missing the UAD 1176 and LA2A here.
    same goes for EQ and other (ok I'll say it..) 'vintage' sounding effects. I guess quality stuff with character is what I'm after.
    so I'm thinking about nomad factory (they seem to have UBs available) and also URS (even though I hate ilok authorized plugs)..
    is anyone using this stuff? I have used the URS before and was loving the neve EQs. but have only ever barely used nomad on a friend's setup once years ago. I don't recall thinking it was bad sounding at all, but I was always under the impression it was a little down-market. the prices don't seem all that downmarket to me though..
    opinions? thoughts? I'll prob try a couple of demos, but I'd love some feedback too.
    btw I'm ruling out waves. I fell off the waves registered user bandwagon back in OS9 days and frankly haven't felt drawn back. do their plug ins still not offer tempo sync, or precise control on exactly what incremental setting you want (for delay in MS, as an example)? and do they still block logic keycommands when their editor is open?

    Hi guys,
    So, this week we've had some great discussions around gaming and today is the last one
    What's your favourite ever moment or memory?
    For me, it was completing this level of Crash Bandicoot called 'Crash Crush'. You had to run towards the screen while a boulder chased you, as well as dodging emerging pits! It was almost too much for my 9-year old self to handle

  • Read, Touch, Latch, Write, MIDI, what's your favourite ?

    Just curious ...
    This question may seem dumb because every mode has its use, but what's the mode you use the most, that is set to default on your tracks, and why ?
    bontempi

    Here's the secret (I learned it by trial and error): You can copy and paste commands within the Controller Assignments window. As well, you can have more than one action performed with a control button press. Have your controller do a mode switch. In that mode, the same button can perform a different command. So, what I did was have the touch button go into touch mode and reassigned the touch button to switch to latch mode by copying and pasting the command within the touch mode area and reassigned the midi code of the command. I then pasted the read/off command in the latch area and reassigned the midi code. Pressing the buttons on my ProjectMix now gives me the desired results.

  • What's your favourite audio CD burn speed?

    I burn CD's with Waveburner but have been doing it old-school at 10x speed. I have to burn a lot and was wondering if people are burning at max speed or what the current thinking is.
    Thanks

    That depends so much on the medium and CD writer that there is no general rule. Find a medium that works well as an audio CD in typical audio CD players and check it with your CD writer - by burning and verifying some sessions. There's also software for professional testing out there that you'll find with google. Also look for medium recommendations for your specific hardware.

    It depends on what I am working on, and what works for my ear at a certain moment. The good news is, SCULPTURE is the best module when it comes to both flavors. Both emulations are crystal clear, and as close as it gets to reality. But!
    When it comes to a track that requires an acoustic guitar, I don't fool myself, I call in a guitar player.

  • What is your favourite design publication in DPS? (poll)

    I propose to use this post, like a poll, for forum people…
    I will start:
    -Asos

    techboy,
    I'm pleased to share it. The method behind the entire project is described here www.milibrodelasletras.com as well as a link to the code for the writing/drawing canvas (hint: it's the HTML5 canvas tag). Additionally, it has been added to Bob Bringhurst's free iPad app, DPS Tips, and finally included in the DPS cookbook.
    One regret I have about the project is that it is difficult to find a place on the page titled "Juego" - where I have the letter matching game - to swipe to the final acknowledgents page. I think that many people never make it there, and that is where I provide links for all of the content creation.
    Best,
    Dan

  • What is your favourite Desktop Environment/Window Manager and why?

    I'm using Openbox because it's lightweight and sleek looking. I don't actually need the lightweight-ness since my laptop has very good specs, but I love the speed and the simplicity.

  • Your favourite laptop which meets (and exceeds) the 12c requirements

    Hi all,
    Usually I'm much better in writing queries than in choosing hardware ( I always get the left-overs ), hence my question.
    I (finally) am able to choose a brand new laptop, since my ancient current one (HP 4500 / XP) cannot run 12c and I suspect it will catch fire today or tomorrow.
    Currently exploring all available stuff, but I'd like to know if anyone can recommend a certain brand or configuration, since I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with all the possibilities, but need to order before 2014. This will be my own (not a companies) laptop, intended for both private and business use. My wife (The 'Excel Lady') will be using it as well, so main OS will be Windoze, I'm afraid ...
    Thanks in advance for sharing tips, pointers, experiences, do's and don'ts!

    My wife (The 'Excel Lady') will be using it as well, so main OS will be Windoze, I'm afraid
    As Srini mentioned for a developer and a dual-use system you should be moving to virtualization. That way the main OS is nothing more than the shell supervisor for the VMs running within it. The shell is not involved directly with applications, the internet or other things that can corrupt the system.
    Oracle has some pre-built VMs available but none for Oracle 12c yet.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr
    1. Shell OS - 64bit system - If you already have hands-on experience with Linux (or use that in your work) then that is what your OS should be (to minimize the learning curve). The pre-built VMs are based on Oracle Enterprise Linux of course. You can use a 64 bit Windows OS if you prefer and run VirtualBox. The VMs can still use other operating systems.
    2. VirtualBox - Another free Oracle product - you install it in the shell OS and all of the VMs are created by, managed by and executed by it.
    3. VMs - install whatever you want - create a Windows OS for your wife to use, create Oracle database VMs for yourself. Once you create the baseline Windows VM and install the software you need use that 'baseline' as your archive/backup copy. Then create a clone for actual use. Then if your wife's VM picks up a nasty virus somewhere you just delete that VM and clone another one and the software will already be installed.
    Part of the beauty of VMs is that the VMs are not physically tied to your physical hardware (e.g. network cards). So different VMs will have their own drivers rather than having to be able to share one piece of physical hardware and the driver it requires.
    Another advantage is that those VMs are transportable (ala transportable tablespaces). You can move them to another physical machine because they contain their own operating environment (drivers, etc).
    I would add USB3 support on the motherboard as a requirement. Then you can move bulk data quickly and easily to an external hard drive at about the same speed as a SATA disk.

  • What should I use as parameter name in call.addParameter in WS DII client

    I'm using dynamic invocation interface to call a web service in Oracle OC4J.
    The part of WSDL "Types" is:
    <element name="myType" type="tns:myType" />
       <complexType name="myType">
         <sequence>
           <element name="sss" nillable="true" type="string" />
         </sequence>
      </complexType>
    ...My J2SE client has following code I belive create problem:
    call.addParameter("sss", input,MyType.class, ParameterMode.IN);when I invoke the web service, I got error:
    javax.xml.rpc.soap.SOAPFaultException: caught exception while handling request: unexpected element name: expected={http://mypackage/B2BGateway/types}myType, actual=sss
    I changed my code according to this message as it expected to be:
    call.addParameter("{http://mypackage/types}myType",
         input,MyType.class, ParameterMode.IN);I got :
    HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Error parsing envelope: (2, 179) Expected name instead of {.
    seems the "{" should not be part of parameter name.
    Then, what should I use as parameter name.
    BTW, the web service server side code should works fine as I can test it with others client.
    Thanks

    Moved one step further:
    I changed abit to code:
    call.addParameter("myType", input,MyType.class, ParameterMode.IN);I can see the server side got SOAP request:
       <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
          <env:Body>
             <myType>
                <ans1:sss xmlns:ans1="http://mypackage/types/">abc</ans1:sss>
             </myType>
          </env:Body>
       </env:Envelope>As you can see, the problem in the generated request is "myType" does not have namespace
    Could someone tell me how to fix it.
    Thanks
