What is your Mighty Mouse set to do?!

Hey guys.
My mighty mouse just arrived, its quite cool. i find the side squeezers very faffy to use though, quite an effort. The scroll ball is great, and it clciks in nicely.
I was wondering what you guys have your buttons set to do?
Right now I am set to:
Scroll Ball Click: Exposé - All windows
Side Squeezers: Dashboard
Scrolling speed: Maximum (Fast)
See ya

That was an exciting response!

  • Keep Mighty Mouse setting for all network users.

We have intel macs at my school, running parallels for Win XP.
The mouse needs to be set up per user to allow the right click function on the windows side, users do not like using the ctrlshiftclick method.
Is there a way I can set up so that all users who have the mighty mouse has the right click function enabled as the secondary action? I dont have time to log in as each user to set it up.
The users also use PPC eMac, those do not have the fancy mouse, just the standard one.
So far i have tried to copy the mouse preferences: com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist. But it does not want to copy to all the users using:
    cp -R /Volumes/docs/Mouse\ Prefs/com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist /Volumes/docs/students///Library/Preferences/
Some reason it does not copy the file.
Any ideas? Is it the right file?
    -Jeff

    cp -R /Volumes/docs/Mouse\ Prefs/com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist /Volumes/docs/students///Library/Preferences/
The shell will parse this command by first expanding the "*" to every directory under .../students. It then executes that command - not what you want.
You probably want something like this...
    cd /Volumes/docs/students
    for dir in * do ; cp /path/to/plist $dir/path/to/PrefsDir ; done
This first expands the "*" to all items in students dir. It then executes the part after the "do ;" for each item in the list, setting the variable "dir" to the first one, then second, etc. The "$dir" gets replaced by the value of "dir".
Note that this will not handle any directory names in /students which have spaces in them (because the 'for' treats spaces as argument separators). if this applies, then changes will have to be made.
Before running it on everything, test run using only one student using...
for dir in chosenName do ; cp /path/to/plist $dir/path/to/PrefsDir ; done
Ths will set 'dir' to 'chosenName' and execute the following bit for that value only (just to ensure it puts what you want, where you want it .
Note also that your "-R" option is ignored - this only applies to the copy source if it is a directory (recurive copy), not the target.

  • Resetting bluetooth may fix your mighty mouse scroll button

I have had this problem with the scroll button on my mighty mouse for months and months, and the only advise I have managed to get from here when I complained was to clean it. But I tried that many times and I have had nothing but problems with it, so much so that I recently called Apple and they agreed straight away to send me a new one.
What made me call them today was the clicking action and side buttons on my mighty mouse also failed completely, and I thought the thing was totally broke. Whilst I was on the phone I happened to mention that my wireless keyboard also keeps losing its connection, and the advisor told me to do this following...
This advise was used on my MacBook 13.3inch model from last year.
Turn off Mac, removed the power and battery and hold down the power button for 5 seconds. Then turn it back on, but while you turn it back on hold down the altcmnd+RP buttons together. You will hear it ching two times as it turns on, let go after the second ching.
This apparently resets the bluetooth and it fixed my mouse, it now works perfectly.
Anyway, I called apple back to say that this reset not only fixed my keyboard, but also my mouse. Everything now works perfectly. The problem was bluetooth all along and not that the button needed cleaning.
But they said they would still send me out a new one, and so long as they received a mouse back in the post they wouldn't charge me. I accepted that offer and I'll see how it goes with the one I have. I feel that I may have damaged the scroll button trying to clean it and feel that I probably should get a new one anyway on account of that.

    Hello stu:
What you apparently did (based on the feedback you got from from Apple) is reset the SMC (system management controller) and the PRAM. When one has odd problems that do not appear software related, those are sometimes suggested as troubleshooting steps.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Resetting the SMC should not, however, be used until other avenues have been exhausted (based on Apple guidance)

  • Cleaning your mighty mouse

dont where to post this, there is no place to post questions on mouse cleaning. i need to open my mighty mouse to clean the track ball. i tried everything the support page said , upside down wiping wife link free cloth cleaning ball. nothing works, i need to open it, why doesnt apple have it so you can open this stupid thing? install they want you to buy a new mighty mouse for 50.00. this is stupid.

Dust, dirt, and such are apt to getting in there. Unplug the mouse, and with a damp cloth, rub up and down, pressing down firmly on the track ball 10-15 times. Repeat side to side, making sure to apply some pressure. This works every time for me when the mouse is acting up or not operating properly.
I have to do this about every other month. Kind of a design flaw with the Mighty Mouse, though I love it and put up with it.

  • What's your final cut set-up lile?

hello, i was wondering what people's editing set-ups were like. i am trying to get more into editing and curious to know what people have to get their work done.
i have a mac pro (2.66, 7300gt), 24in dell monitor, and a couple phillips speakers, along with fcs2 and cs3. i'm a recent grad so i've only done school projects and it worked great. i do eventually want to improve and stuff but i don't have a big budget. is this set-up usually pretty good for a lot of things? is there equipment that you must have with an editing system?
    thx

The other question to ask yourself...
What kind of jobs am I going to take? Am I going to have to say NO to HD gigs? Will I say yes to DVCPROHD and NO to HDV?
Am I going to be doing broadcast or distrobution jobs where I'll need to make sure chroma/luma is calibrated correctly?
Are you going to wait until you NEED something before you buy?
    For now you need:
    CPU
    Software (and manuals)
    Deck
    Storage solution
Speakers (sorry, I always use headphones - I'm the only one)
External Monitor - Anything from $100 bestbuy close-out to a $5000+ HD monitor.
Oh... and I'd invest in a good microphone too - you WILL find you need to do a VO for SOMETHING!!!
Good luck, let us know when you make your first million! I'm just starting my 3rd... but I lost the other two somewhere.

  • 3 button on mighty mouse - setting keeps resetting

The third button keeps changing from dashboard. I have never had this problem with 10.4 but have had to have it back numerous times. Anyone know what might be causing that?

Those actions are user defined in System Preferences>mouse. The definition for the center ball may have gone back to the defaults. Check there and redefine if necessary. Mine is currently set for Expose.. but it's easy to change. Just use the drop down box and pick "other". Then the applications folder on the left and Mail in the resulting list.

  • Re-pairing Mighty Mouse after every battery change.

Do I really have to do this every time, because it's driving me nuts. I dread the battery dying because it means I have to go dig out an old corded mouse, plug it in, slog through the pairing wizard, then finally continue my work. Why do I not have to do this with either of my wireless keyboards?

    Hello,
You should not have to re-pair your wireless devices after changing the batteries. Next time you replace the batteries in your Mighty Mouse, set the mouse down on the mouse pad, give it a second or two to connect wirelessly and then move it to see if the cursor tracks. If the device is listed as connected in the Bluetooth menu, then it should work.
Also, make sure the Bluetooth icon is displayed in your Status Menu Bar. System Preferences/Bluetooth. Bottom left hand corner of that window, click Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar. You'll be able to always see which "devices" are connected.
And it's very important to keep the MMouse clean. How to Clean Your Mighty Mouse
You can also try deleting the Bluetooth preference file. com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.

  • How do you folks setup your Apple Mouse also known as MightyMouse for iMac?

Any hints?..., tips?..., pointers?..., suggestions?..., ideas?..., alternative ways?... how you folks out there setup your Apple Mouse also known as Mighty Mouse for the 27 inch iMac 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 Trying to interpret the available documentation that turned up so far... not easy, information in the documentation could be better, more crystal clear ! Needed are more and better diagrams with better labels that better differentiate a variety of setups!

Go to Systems Preferences and click on the Mouse icon. You have a choice of how fast you want to track, scroll and the double click speed. It also gives you some choices of one-finger and two-finger operations. Change the settings (maybe one at a time) and see what best fits you. What I have my mouse setting on are comfortable for me; they might not be comfortable for you. Try changing the settings in Systems Preferences until you come up with a configuration that meets your needs.
There is a "mouse" chapter in the "Everything Mac" manual that came with the computer. It has more information on use, settings, etc.

  • Making the side buttons of the mighty mouse go back in safari

    Hi,
I found out that I can assign a custom key command to menu items in safari's browse-back-action. I've also seen that these settings are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist at the NSUserKeyEquivalents dictionary. Well, is there a hidden way to modify the entries to support Button 4 of my mighty mouse? I can't do that via the preferences panel, but maybe someone knows what to enter there.
    Tekl

i think you're looking too deep. you can configure your mighty mouse buttons from within system preferences --> keyboard and mouse preferences. also, see the apple might mouse web site for more info.
    hope this helps!

  • Mighty Mouse won't zoom?

I am now onto my 3rd Mighty Mouse in 4 months and I am am having problems with this one as well. Each time the problems have been different, but always centred around the scroll button.
This time round I can scroll, but have no zoom capability. No settings have been changed and the function has been working previously. I have checked system preferences and zoom is set with use of the ctrl button as normal, but nothing happens.
Can anybody help? Does the fault actually lie within my Imac and the mice have been fine and something in there needs fixed or do I need yet another new Mighty Mouse (Wireless version).

  • Mighty Mouse will scroll down but not up.

All of a sudden my mighty mouse won't scroll up. It will scroll down, left and right but not up. The mighty mouse is about 6 months old and has worked fine on my old Dual 1GHz G4 MDD.

your mighty mouse should have a 1yr warranty on it, take it to an apple store and let them know what the problem is.
as I have never used a mighty mouse I cant offer advice, other than perhaps its dirty inside and maybe you could clean it...

  • Mighty Mouse side buttons going haywire

My wired MM just recently lost complete bodily function of its side buttons. Practically any movement of the mouse (especially touching it around the area of the right side button) will send it in a frenzy. I can hear the little click too, as if I were pushing the buttons super fast. Because I have my side buttons set to "show all windows" it pretty much renders the mouse useless. I can't work with Expose flipping it's lid, obviously. Has anyone else encountered this? Is it just a matter of cleaning out something inside?

  • Broken Mighty Mouse's

I've had two mighty mouse's break on me in a week. Both display a stuck click (10-30 clicks/sec). One occured with a new iMac, purchased early Dec. The other mighty mouse was a free standing purchase. Has anyone else wittnessed this behavior also? I'm at the point I'd like to return them to Apple.
    Cheers

    "Both display a stuck click (10-30 clicks/sec)."
I've been using my mighty mouse since November with no problems. Seems rather odd both would break in the same week.
Not sure what you're referring to when you write "10-30 clicks/sec? Does either mouse stick when you click? Check this article out on Cleaning Your Mighty Mouse. You might be able to repair them yourself.

  • Strange problem with Mighty Mouse scroll ball

    Hi,
yesterday suddenly my Mighty Mouse start to have a strange mood. Using scroll ball to go down in a page I haven't problem, but trying to go up don't happened nothing! The problem seems to be software, because the hardware seems to be good.
    What can I do?
    Bye

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417 How to clean your Mighty Mouse
Take a piece of bright white paper, turn the mouse upside down on it, press down on the ball, and run the mouse quickly in circles over the paper. This will remove all the gunk that's building up on the ball
TIP: To get to the gook inside the scroll nipple use a plastic toothpick.
"Other Options:" Wear latex disposable gloves. A box of same can be purchased from your local Dollar Store or Pharmacy.
Some cell phone leather cases actually fit right over the Mighty Mouse.
Clean/wipe the Mighty Mouse off with a damp cloth/rag prior to going to bed each evening.
Some users have found using the small alcohol pads quite successful. These can be obtained from any drug/pharmacy or Dollar Store.

  • Problems w/ Mighty Mouse

So I started using one today w/ my MBP. I set the scroll ball to dashboard and the squeeze to Expose. Neither of them work. I swapped and no luck.
I can't get any functionaality out of either. I loaded the s/w from the CD and rebooted. Same issue. Ideas?

Check out Troubleshooting the Mighty Mouse here.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302063
    Troubleshooting Mighty Mouse
Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later
The Mouse tab of the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane will not appear in System Preferences unless your Mighty Mouse is plugged in. If Mighty Mouse-specific information does not appear in the Mouse tab of the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane when your Mighty Mouse is connected, the computer does not detect the mouse on the USB bus. Try unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in. If it still does not appear, try the steps listed in article 58033, "USB Device Troubleshooting." Also check if another mouse is plugged into the computer—sometimes another mouse may interfere with the functionality of Mighty Mouse.
