What kind of install for upgrade?

I am running a Powermac G4 tower with Panther. For a variety of reasons I never upgraded the system but now I would like to upgrade to Tiger. There are too many programmes and devices that won't work under Leopard but I am now encountering compatibility problems with Panther. Also Safari keeps quitting. My question is what kind of upgrade should I do? I was thinking I would wipe the hard disks clean (I have two) and start afresh with Tiger. Is this advisable? If so, what do I need to save in order not to lose all my programmes and drivers? I have an external hard drive big enough to back up the whole system. And how do I reintall all that after Tiger is installed?

Hi-
I was thinking I would wipe the hard disks clean (I have two) and start afresh with Tiger. Is this advisable?
As long as the drive that you erase is not the Panther volume, erasing the drive and installing Tiger as a new volume is good.
In Tiger, use either the Setup Assistant or the Migration Assistant to move all needed files and applications from the Panther volume to the Tiger volume.
Do not erase or modify the Panther volume until you have tested everything in Tiger.

What is the sequence for upgrading from 10.4.11 to lion. Can't use many apps without it. HELP

Quicken is an example that the OP noted is important to her, too!
Intuit makes it very difficult to find this link?!
Everytime I want to find it to post it for someone else, I have to Google: "cnet quicken 2007 for lion" and then in top listed link: Topper Kessler's review for CNET, I find the direct link to Intuit
This program will work with Quicken 2005, 2006 and 2007 data files directly.  If you have a data file from an older version, such as I did, Quicken Deluxe 2002, you must use the PPC version of either Quicken 2006 or 2007 to update the data first; and then the data will work in Quicken 2007 for Lion.
For other PPC programs that require Rosetta, I installed Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • What kind of memory for my Macbook Pro Laptop

    Hello:
I am thinking of getting more memory for my laptop.
I am unsure on what brand to buy, so I appreciate any input you might have. I have 2 memory slots that have 2gb each. How much can I put in each slot? 4gb, 8gb?
What kind of prices for the memory?
Here are the specs on my laptop.
    MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Thank you!

You can put an 8GB module in each slot, giving you a total of 16GB. But that's the maximum.
Good sources of RAM for your model (which use 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs) are Crucial, OWC and Corsair. Other people may recommend other brands, but I would get one of the three (and I only include Corsair because that's what I'm using).
    Good luck,

I have a late 2009 iMac, with the default Nvidia 9400 Graphics card.
I was wondering what my options are for upgrading.  I use Windows 7 via Bootcamp, so I need a card that is compatible/has available drivers.
This is for gaming. On the lowest settings of "Call of Duty 4", I get about 100 FPS... Was hoping to be able to play on higher resolution w/o the fps lag.
I'm not good with the hardware part of computers at all, but know how to get around the OS.

In most cases the graphics cards in iMacs are Not upgradeable.  They are usually soldered to the logic board.  RAM is considered, along with harddrives, the only component that is upgradeable in an iMac, unlike in PC's.  So basically you would need to sell your unit and purchase an iMac with a more powerful graphics card.
    Hope this helps

  • What are the prerequisites for upgrading to CU7

I've been trying to get a definitive list of prerequisites for the upgrade to Exchange 2013 CU7, but every time I find another site with info it says something different.
I know I need to have Domain functional level at 2008 SP1 to run the Schema extension, no problem there. However, I found something that tells me I need to have the Exchange servers running .NET Framework 4.5.2 and Windows Management Framework 4.0, but the
same site then says this is actually needed on the machine used to prepare AD. that means it needs to be one of the domain controllers running these.
Other sites say these need to be installed but do not say which server(s) need them.
Can anyone give me the list of prerequisites? The information I managed to find on the Microsoft site mentioned nothing about the domain functional level, I only found this requirement after trying to run the schema extension and getting a report the DFL
needs to be 2003 native mode or above, I ran a targeted search for DFL requirements and found a table listing this for different versions of Exchange.
This is frustrating to say the least, makes carrier pigeons seem a viable alternative right now!

Thanks to everyone who has replied, but the fact 3 different people have replied and given varying replies is what I was talking about.
Microsoft, in the prerequisites information found at
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/bb691354(v=exchg.150).aspx say this
    Active Directory preparation
The computer you want to use to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 has specific prerequisites that must be met.
Install the following software, in the order shown, on the computer that will be used to prepare Active Directory:
The version of Microsoft .NET Framework that corresponds to the version of Exchange 2013 you're installing.
Exchange CU7 and later   .NET Framework 4.5.2
Exchange CU6 and earlier   .NET Framework 4.5.1
The version of Windows Management Framework that corresponds to the version of Exchange 2013 you're installing.
Exchange 2013 SP1 or later   Windows Management Framework 4.0
    Exchange 2013 CU3   Windows Management Framework 3.0
but from what others say, installing .NET 4.5.2 before installing CU7 will break Exchange services.
I think I'm just going to try the schema extension without installing anything and see what happens, if I still have my job after this I will let you know

Can we give input as "installed apps on the mac machine(eg: App Strore.app)
Can we give  input as ".ipa(myapp.ipa) which is created for my app using xcode from developement profile and certificate"?
Can we give input as ".ipa(distrubitioon/enterprise ipa) which is created using xcode from distribution profile and certificate"?

The Mini comes with an HDMI->DVI-D adapter.  So, if your monitor
supports DVI-D you are set.  If it supports HDMI, you just need an
    HDMI cable.
If it only supports VGA, you will need a Display Port->VGA adapter.

  • What kind of hit for carrying balances [update 7/3]

I've been keeping my utilization way low, with most accounts reporting zero, and the others reporting nominally, so that my utilization has been about a third of a percent. This week I decided to get some postponed dental work done, and to pay for it with some zero-interest-rate cards and not worry so much about the FICO scores. And I'm considering letting the balances ride for awhile, not paying them off totally, and letting my reported balances go up to the neighborhood of 5% overall utilization, with the zero interest cards just under 30%. How much of  a hit can I expect on my FICO scores if I do in fact let my utilization go from a third of a percent to five percent? Even if you tell me I can expect a bad hit, I might do it anyway, just as an experiment...My scores are of only academic interest at this point since I should be gardening at this stage of the game. But I do wonder what lies ahead. Updates:  5/17 Started May 16th with: 10 accounts at zero balance, 3 accounts posting total balance of $241, representing less than .3% overall utilization Over the next 5 days, I allowed 3 of the 13 revolving accounts to post a total of $1524.33, for 1.7% overall utilization, with individual account utilization ranging from 2.13% to 49%. 5/22 EX dropped 2 points. 5/29 Balances up to $2700, representing 3% overall. No other score changes yet. 6/3 The entire $2700 has been reported to TU, and my TU score has not budged. 6/5 As of today I'm up to $3500, for 3.9% overall utilization. My only FICO change so far has been -2 on EX. But both my FAKO scores at Credit Karma just dropped 5 points, which makes me nervous. So I will probably let it peak at 3.9% and start bringing the numbers down now. 6/8 Boom! EQ FICO dropped 11 points! 6/11 No new change in scores. 6/17 will start reducing utilization 6/16 30 days from the start of my experiment: EX -2, EQ - 11, TU - No change 6/24 down to 2% overall utilization, no change 6/27 Today TU dropped 3. After my utilization dropped from 3.9% to 2%. Go figure. 7/3 OK now I'm back down to .3% overall utilization, right where I started on 5/16. No further change in scores....yet.

  • What are the steps for upgrading os x 10.5.8 to 10.6.7

I'm thinking of upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6.x.  Can I just install over the top of 10.5.8 or do I need to do something beforehand?  Do I just insert the disk and run?
    Much obliged.

How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and later.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.  Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button.  This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    C. Important: Please read before installing
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. Download and install update(s) if updating:
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).
    E. To upgrade from an earlier major version:
Purchase the requisite installer package (Snow Leopard for example.)
    Boot from the installer DVD.
    Choose the install option:
    None required for Snow Leopard.
Archive and Install for versions prior to Snow Leopard.

  • What is the order for upgrading exchange server 2013 SP1 servers to CU7?

    Hi All
I am planning to upgrade my exchange server 2013 SP1CU4 to CU7 . As per my understanding , we always proceed with the CAS servers and then the Mailbox Servers during up-gradation.
But I am confused now , since I have seen articles stating , that the Mailbox servers has to be upgraded first and then the CAS servers in exchange 2013.
What will be the correct order . My environment consists of 2 Mailbox servers in DAG and 2 CAS servers (Exchange server 2013 SP1)
    Thanks in Advance .
    Joyso Senior Messaging Admin

    Hi Joyso,
The Microsoft recommendation regarding the order in which the Exchange 2013 server roles should be installed or Upgraded is Mailbox and then CAS.
It makes sense as the CAS Role is a stateless server and all major components are held by the Mailbox Role.
Until a 2013 mailbox server comes online, the CAS server is pretty much useless. Hence, the recommended installation order in 2013 is the reverse of 2010 – Mailbox role first & then CAS
Note: If your DAG have more nodes, you need first upgrade all non-PAM nodes and then upgrade PAM node.
    Some References:
The recommendation from the Product Group is to install Exchange 2013 Preview Mailbox Role first, and then the
    CAS role.
If you're separating your server roles, we recommend installing the Mailbox server role first.
Upgrade your Exchange 2013 server roles in the required order. First, upgrade Mailbox servers
and then upgrade Client Access servers. -Upgrade DAG Mailbox servers

  • What kind of approach for new XML-based clients

    Hi.
Our firm is using Oracle-technology everywhere, and now we would
like to find out what kind of XML-based technology would suit us
best for a new generation of our products.
Our products are now using old Forms 3-clients and we're doing a
research on replacing this technology with Internet-based
clients. Java-clients are one option, but now we'd really like
to know about thin-clients which wouldn't have much code run on
the server. We have already done extranet-clients with OAS
PL/SQL-cartridges and have found out that HTML-clients require
much work and can't have too much logic on them.
So, we have already OAS running on Oracle 8.0.5.1.0 -server and
would like to know what kind of XML-strategy would be a
reasonable solution. I know about these tools: XML Parser for
xx, XML SQL Utility for Java, XSQL Servlet.
-But what would be a reasonable combination of these and what
kind of thin-client could we use? XSL?
-What kind of development tools could we use for clients (or do
    we have to use text-editors)?
-Which of these tools require Oracle 8i and is it stupid to even
think about XML-based applications without Oracle 8i?

NO. Have you taken a look at the specs page for Mac Pro?
Or when you go to OWC for Mac Pro Memory.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory
2GB modules are better, especially if you need more than 4GB, but you want to have 4 DIMMs, 4 x 2GB or 4 x 1GB.

  • What kind of RAM for a MacBook?

I bought the Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz MacBook and I'm wondering what kind of RAM this computer uses? It's the model preceding the current MacBook.

Both MacBook models use the same, if you want to make sure you are getting compatible RAM, buy from a company that guarantees mac compatibility like
    http://www.crucial.com
    http://www.macsales.com
Both of them have memory advisors for Apple computers on their site.

  • What kind of  "addActionLister" for JTabbedPane should I use??

    Hi, friends:
I have a Jpanel called panel, contains several JTabbedPanes,
    such as tpane_1, tpane_2, tpane_3, tpane_4, tpane_5 etc,
When I click tpane_1, I should add what kind of "addActionLister" to
    Trap this event "click tpane_1"??
And When I click tpane_2, I should add what kind of "addActionLister" to
Trap this event "click tpane_2" also?? And so on??
    Please help.
    Thanks
    sunny

As you know, JTabbedPane has a method called
    void addChangeListener(ChangeListener l)
which you can use to register an object with tabbed pane that will be informed whenever a tab is selected.
JTabbedPane.addChangeListener needs an object that implements the javax.swing.event.ChangeListener interface.
Further, as you know, ChangeListener has a single method called stateChanged:
    void stateChanged(ChangeEvent e)
Use this method to react appropriately whenever the selected tab is changed.
You can also use method int getSelectedIndex() to get selected index and from that you can see selected tab.

  • What Kind Of Connectors for Audio Out?

My Mac Pro is a 2-2.8g Quad, and it's kind of in a position right now where I can't clearly see, so can anyone tell me what kind of connector I need to grab the audio out (NOT DIGITAL) and connect it to another device?
    Thanks
    Tom

    These are Stereo-capable.
Stereo jacks have a tip and two rings.
Mono jacks the same size and shape have one tip contact and only one ring contact.

  • Soundblaster Live! CT4620 - what driver to install for Windows XP P

Please can someone help me? I've upgraded from Windows 98SE to Windows XP Pro and need to install a driver for my Soundblaster Li've! CT4620. I tried to install one driver and it says "The Windows operating system is not supported" and the install exits. I'm stuck! What should I do?
    Thanks,

    Hi Nick,
