Hm - there is only one PowerMac G4 without a line-in - it's called "PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio)". Take a look at this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
... it shows the back panels of 3 models, and if yours is the 3rd, that's it.
In this case, you can really only input sounds digitally. The cheapest solution would be to get an iMic USB device (maybe that's what your husband had - look at the pic. Older models were more like silvery), it comes for < 40 $, and you can plug a microphone into it (with the small 1/8" plug). Not super-great sound, but for that mic it should be good enough.

  • What kind of external disk is best for iMac?

I have a snall iomega external disk that I love.  I just bought a new iMac and the cord does not fit into the USB on my computer, although it fit fine on my old imac. Not sure if I can replace the cord or if I have to get a new disk.  In the event that a new disk is needed, what kind is most compatible with the new iMac so i will not have to do a lot of reformatting?

  • What kind of sunglass lens works best with iPad?

I just got prescription sunglasses for the first time and discovered I can't see what's on my iPad screen. Dr. didn't warn my about this and it never occurred to me to ask. Is there a certain kind of sunglass lens that let's you read your iPad outside? I'd planned to read reports that I need for work while sitting outside. Thank you for your help.

    Hi gentleone,
You likely have polarized sunglasses. If you turn your iPad from portrait to landscape (or vice versa) you'll be able to see your screen. I've experienced that with my sunglasses... The workaround to rotate it 90 degrees works for me
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Macbook Pro has no modem.. what kind of internet can I get?

I've been stuck using dialup internet on an ancient Windows desktop since I was 14 years old, I just bought my first Macbook Pro about a year ago. Yay!! I've been using AT&T Wireless Internet using a USB internet card since I've bought this laptop. I'm about to be moving into my first apartment and would love to have DSL or Highspeed internet so I don't have a monthly GB limit useage. Since my Macbook Pro has no modem, am I able to get DSL or Highspeed internet with AT&T? I've been stuck in the darkages using dialup for so long and haven't been able to stay up-to-date with anything beyond dialup internet. Help! (Thanks!)

Highspeed Internet, DSL or Cable, uses a special external modem, not a dialup modem. You'll get that modem when you sign up for the Highspeed service.

  • What kind of power cable is best?

My power cable on my Lime iBook (366Mhz) recently gave out. I found a place to get a new one of the same kind (apparently it's called a "yoyo" design.) However, my current one broke at the same point as the last one (albeit after much longer usage) right near where it connects to the computer, showing sparks when I try to shift it a bit. Since this type seems to have a weak point there, I was wondering if there is a more durable power cable available for this style of iBook.
    Anyone know of any?
    Thanks.

The cable is thin there and even though you could use an older adapter for the previous gen. powerbooks (powerbook duo, 1400 etc.) it will also have the same weak point. Not much to do other than being more careful with it.
I'm sure any electronic shop in your area would be able to assess as to whether or not it can be repaired ....shouldn't cost too much.
    Hope this helps.

  • Internet Security and Virus Protection

I am brand spanking new to the Mac world. Just bought a beautiful 27" iMac last week. My question, Is there a need for virus protection/internet security software with macs?? I have long heard the possible myth that macs dont get virus'. Is this true?? If not, what is best that uses the least memory to run??
I have long loved AVG for windows

Is there a need for virus protection/internet security software with macs?? I have long heard the possible myth that macs dont get virus'. Is this true??
It is true that there are no Mac viruses at this time. There are a few trojans, but these are very rare and have threat levels ranging from low to none. See my [Mac Virus guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/macvirus> for more details on this.
As to internet security, one never knows when a new exploit will be discovered, but Macs are pretty secure. I've never used any kind of internet security software and have never needed it. Just use that internet filter that's between your ears and you'll be fine. There are also a couple good general security documents linked to at the end of my virus guide that will be good reads for this purpose.

As others have already said, you already have it. Here are some details, depending on what version of OS X you are using:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware

  • What internet security application is recommended

I have a Mac Book Pro and want to know if there is a recommended internet security software that I should install to protect my computer?

Hi All... Long time Apple user and have enjoyed many many years without a thought about malware, virus' and trojans.
Here is the unfortunate reality... Life was fine and then one day my MacBook Pro started to labor when opening apps/managing multiple documents/etc.. the spinning wheel. When moving to Force Quit - Each time it would indicate that one or more of my apps were 'unresponsive'.
Next... noticed two things; At the same time that a mac app was unresponsive - the fan in my macbook was kicked into overdrive... and the casing above the keyboards had become super hot. R
esearched the issue that pointed me to the possibility of malware... Chose then what was best option McAfee to scan my computer.... and yes you guessed it - two cases of malware and a trojan. McAfee put them in 'quarantine' and I restarted my laptop... Like magic - no unresponsive apps - the fans were calm and the case was no longer excessively hot.
This was great for about a month and then it happened again... ran the scan (with McAfee and Sophos) and found a new case of malware that was found in my email database and dated as received that day - once the virus was quarantined - my macbook was happy again. Now I run realtime virus scanner - seems like about 3-5 weeks and something will show up and - 99.9% time imbedded within an email - I sue McAfee to remove whatever it is and enjoy my computer running as it should.....  fast, cool and quiet.

  • What internet security do you recommend for apple products

What Internet security do you recommend for apple products

None.  The best security is to backup your data frequently, and using WPA2 encryption on wireless routers.    Otherwise basic good practices include:
    1. Do not download sites that suggest installing cleanup software.
    2. Do not do things that might slow your Mac down:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6921
    3. Do not install updates except directly from reputable vendors websites, and the Apple Mac Store.
    4. Do not follow instructions of popup windows or banner ads.
    5. Do not use peer2peer or torrent software.
    6. Do not open .scpt, .sct, .app attachments.
    7. If you use Windows on your Mac, the same security rules for Windows on a non-Apple machine apply as an Apple machine.

Sorry, I don't know of a way to set up different schedules for different emails.  I thought that you wanted push for one, and fetch for the other one.  I think that is an option, but not sure since I only get emails in one of my accounts.
You just made me realize that my GMail is not coming through to my phone!  I've fixed it now and will report back if I can set up different schedules for my different accounts. Thanks!
