Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • What kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GH

    hi there,
I have for sometime now a "Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5", and recently I have been thinking to get an Airport extreme wireless card with a bluetooth on it, which could work on my machine.
I have already try to deal with apple representatives and Apple sales people to give me a hand on the matter and so far is been a nightmare to approach this guys, tired of wasting time and effort, so that is way I am posting a topic on this section to see if you guys could give a hand on the matter.
All what I would like to know is what kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (version 10.4.11) and where I could buy one on line to install myself.
This is the mac unit I have.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 4.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
    Thanks for you time.
    regards
    Toyko koyko

You're welcome. Funny how Apple works isn't it? If it's any consolation, that Airport/Bluetooth card doesn't show up on the Apple U.S. store either. I don't think they ever intended it to be a user installable part, so perhaps that's why they don't offer it for sale. Do you have any Apple Authorized Service providers in your area? I'd think they'd be able to order the card as a replacement part.
Can you give a little more detail or a link to the gadget you're referring to? It sounds like a USB dongle to enable Wi-Fi, but that must be a third party solution, since I don't believe Apple ever offered something like that.

  • IMac G4 PPC, what kind of memory do I need?

I've looked everywhere, but I haven't found anything that screams "This is clearly the exact thing you need, doofus".
I own an iMac G4 PPC.
    Here are the specs:
      Machine Name:          iMac
      Machine Model:          PowerMac6,1
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (3.3)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          256 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.5.9f1
      Serial Number:          W8******NHX
And if this is important, here:
      System Version:          Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S165)
      Kernel Version:          Darwin 8.11.0
    And this: (Memory)
    DIMM1/J20:
      Size:          256 MB
      Type:          DDR SDRAM
      Speed:          PC2100U-25330
      Status:          OK
(The only other slot is "DIMM0/J22", and all it says is "Empty".  I'm just assuming that's the one I'm trying to get memory for.)
For the past since forever, I've been trying to find some memory I can add to it, because it's showing its age.  I love this computer, and I want to get as much out of it as I can.
The thing is, I can't seem to find the specific type of memory for it anywhere.  And if I have, I sure don't know if it's the right kind.
I need the biggest possible memory I can put in the slot on the bottom, the one that apparently goes in the "DIMM0/J22" slot, which is the only one out of two that says "empty".
I've tried a few sites like Crucial, which have a system scanner to help pinpoint your compatibility, but my system doesn't support that application and refuses to run it.
What kind of memory goes into the user-accessible slot on my machine?
Can someone please help me out?  I'm sick and tired of that beach ball.

  • What kind of Firewire do I need for the new Mac?

    Hey Apple Community,
I have a new late 2013 Macbook Pro. I noticed that it has a new firewire port! However, I need to digitize video footage from Mini DV tapes. The camera I'll be using to digitize my footage is a Canon Vixia HV30. Does anyone know what kind of firewire cable I'd need? Will I need an adapter of some sort?
    Thanks for the help!

What kind of cable would I need exactly? I'd like to look it up and buy what I need today so that I could start my work soon. Here's some reference pictures:
And do you recommend any particular cable? I'd like to purchase a reliable product.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • How do I know what kind of drive is ok to install into my Mac Pro 1.1?

    Can I install a "Samsung Desktop Class Spinpoint F3 1 TB SATA 3.0 Gb-s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare-OEM Drives, HD103SJ"
drive into my Mac Pro 1.1? (2x3 3 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor.)
All the reviews for this drive were by people with PC's not Mac's. Also, my Mac Pro is a Tower so does it mean this "desktop class" won't work? Samsung has another one for $10 more that doesn't say "desktop" : the "1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 SATA2 3.5" Hard Drive (32MB cache, 7200rpm)." Should I get that one instead?

Thanks, guys. I ordered and installed the drive I asked about, and it's working fine. The next drive will be the WD black, as you suggested. (It was too late for me to change my order when I read your recs.)
Having installed this I TB drive, I now want it to be my main one, with my system and all of my files moved to there. My current main drive, the one that came with the computer, is only 250MB and is almost full. My new question is: what's the best way to move everything? How do I get the new drive to have a working system folder and be the start up disk. I remember last time I tried to copy everything from one drive to another, the copied system wouldn't work on the new drive.

  • What kind of memory do I need for Macbook?

    "512MB (2x256MB) of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300); supports up to 2GB"
Can I just get any PC2-5300 model memory and install? Or does it have to be a specific brand? Ive seen some PC2-5300 on ebay which was pulled from a PC laptop, is this still compatible?

You have to be sure everything matches.ie., pinout and form factor.
Here is a place to look to get all that info.

  • What kind of memory do I need for an HP G72 notebook?

I want to upgrade the memory in my laptop to to max size and speed.  It is a G72 with a dual-core Pentium T4500 2.3ghz, Windows 7 64-bit.  Thanks

    Hi,
G72 is a series of many models (of laptops) but basically they have same base. Please check this very reliable source:
       http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/HP+G7xx+Series/HP+G72-257CL-upgrades.html
You can buy RAM from them or use the info to buy elsewhere.
    Regards.

  • How much and what kind of memory can I install to upgrade my G72-b57cl notebook?

I have installed what I thought was the recommended memory for my G72-b57cl notebook, but I cannot get windows to boot or recover after installing it. The BIOS recognizes the memory and a memory check also recognizes it, but windows 7 64-bit will not operate. Is it the memory or windows?

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02623152.pdf
Memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1 on page 2.
    Max is 2 x 4 GB (8 GB) of PC3-1333 memory.
You have to pay particular attention to the fact that HP notebooks need PC3-10600 memory.
There are some memory modules out there which are PC3-10660 or PC3-10666.
The above 2 variations will normally give the user problems.

  • IMAC 24¨ WHAT KIND OF MEMORY I NEED TO UPGRADE MY COMPUTER?

I have an IMAC 24¨ What kind of memory i need to upgrade it? It has actually 667CL5

You posted in the PPC iMac forum, but there was not a 24" PPC iMac.  There are several 24" Intel models.
To tell what memory you need it is best to check the exact model identifier, click the apple left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware and what does it show as the Model Identifier?  With that you can go to either http://www.everymac.com and find the appropriate iMac and see what the correct memory is.  Or, you can go to OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com and see what they offer for that model iMac.  They are the trusted sources of Mac memory.

  • What kind of Ram do I need for my Mac?

    Hello
I want to upgrade the speed of my mac by adding a 2GB stick of ram. But what kind of ram do i need? Would this work for my Mac (Mid 2011 21.5 inch) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-PC3-10600-Desktop-Upgrade-240-pin/dp/B001NA25VS/ ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390290563&sr=8-1&keywords=2gb+ram?

Macs are very, VERY picky about the RAM specs they need.
That RAM is the wrong pin count and probably for PCs and not a Mac
Here is the proper RAM spec for your year and model.
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).

I want to use the Web module to publish to the a website... What kind of server do I need to be able to publish my website?

You don't need a server, you just need a web hosting package such as the ones from GoDaddy or many other hosts. You then send the web gallery directly from LR to your web space.
As you're asking such basic questions, it might be best if you read articles like this and see if a friend or colleague can get you started.

  • I am moving to the UK, What kind of charger do I need?

I have a MacBook I got in 2009. Im moving abroad in September and Im trying to figure out what kind of charger I will need. I know you can pop off the little plug part on the adapter, and I saw on amazon that I can buy an extension that fits onto the adapter with a UK head on it. Do you think this will work? Or am I going to have to buy a completely new charger? I hope not because the adapter head on Amazon is only like $10!!! Here is a link to the adapter head which I think might work http://www.amazon.co.uk/extension-power-Adapter-Charger-Macbook/dp/B004S6VIG2/re f=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311011961&sr=8-3
I guess Im just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this. I know the voltage in the UK is like 220 and in the Sates its only 110, and I obviously dont want to fry my computer or the adapter, so I just want to make sure Im doing the right thing!!!!!!!
    Thanks everyone!

Thanks guys this is really helpful! Last time I was there I just used an adapter and ended up frying a few things haha so I think I'll get a cord instead!!! Yay, I love my Mac and would never want to hurt it haha, thank goodness they make things so easy

  • What kind of card do i need, and how easy is it to install?

I bought an airport base station, and found that my 2004 ibook G4 cannot go wireless. I called apple, and they said to buy a card on ebay and installing it won't be too hard. I'd rather do this than buy a new computer, as i just bought tiger. What kind of card do i need and how do i install it? thanks.
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You will need the original Airport card and not an Airport Extreme card.
That is incorrect. The iBook G4 requires the AirPort Extreme card.
