Hi,
That why I recomend the battery (inclucing the UPS). You have to pay more to get an UPS which can run for hew hours.
UPS: Uninterupted Power Supply. Or buy a generator with auto switch, when power out it will automatically start BUT you still need UPS to run your computer for at least few minutes. I actually run UPS in my house but only for 10mins, enought time for my NAS to switch off orderly.

  • Why no FM tuner for the iPod Classic?

    Hi
I've been considering making the big conversion from PC to Mac for a while now (heard good things from my sister and suffered through Vista for 4 years) BUT my conversion hinges upon my music collection which is currently 18gb (and the majority of it transferred from my CD collection). Therefore I'm only thinking of an iPod Classic. My current mp3 player (Creative 30gb dino that's not compatible with Windows 7) has an FM tuner which is essential. The iPod Classic does not.
Why doesn't the iPod Classic have a built-in FM tuner like those miniscule you'll-lose-it-in-the-wash iPod Nanos? Are they just trying to keep the Classic classic? Would putting the FM tuner in a Classic not fit, even though it fits in 16gb Nanos?
I won't ask if they're going to put in one because that's speculation and from what I've read violates the terms of questions one can ask here.

You might still be able to find Apple's iPod FM Radio Remote accessory, or a third party alternative.

  • What kind of Power Supply to buy for my Power Mac G5?

    Hello!
After trying several things, and poking around several forums on the net I have become convinced that my Power Mac G5 needs a new Power Supply.  My big question is how do I know what kind of Power Supply to get for it?
My computer is one of the last of the Power Mac G5's with Motorola chips; it has the dual 2.7 GHz processor core.  I know the install will be tricky, but I feel confident I can do it.
The Apple store doesn't sell these Power Supplies any more, and our other local Apple repair store said they'd have to "match up the serial numbers" in order to find a new Power Supply... but they also wanted to charge me $200.  (I'm a poor high school science teacher and would rather do it myself.)
Any words of wisdom/explanations on how to find the right type of Power Supply for my computer would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you both, Mac Man JW & Old Comm Guy!
My problem has been that the computer won't start at all.  When I press the button on the front panel, I hear the click of a relay (like normal) but then nothing happens... no fans spinning up, no hard drive spinning up... silence.
When I open the side panel and press the button, I can see that the 2 cooling fans twitch just a little bit but they immediately stop.  The only other thing I can see is that the red LED 7 light comes on, and according to everything I've read that light means 'contact an Apple representative.'
This started about 2 weeks ago.  Hadn't had any trouble before then... if there were any warning signs I sure didn't see them.
If you think it might be something else I'm definitely willing to listen!
Did you check the liquid cooling system inside your G5 for leaks? That can make your G5 not start up as well. Look at this link: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g5/faq/powermac-g5-liquid-cooling -info-leaks-issues.html

  • What exact metals are used in the iPod 5 and what for?

what exact metals are used in the iPod 5 and what for?

Hey Connor and Josh, The same kind of metals that are found in pretty much all electrics. Aluminum, Gold, Copper, Solder, (I would guess lead free). You will also find plastics and resins, glass and Li-ion, carbon, and silicon. Why do you ask? If your thinking of stripping one down for the metals, it's not worth it, there so little in there it will cost you more to separate the metals than there value by weight.  Cheers.

  • What kind of PCI Device is the NI-PCI 6519 card?

    Hi:
I need to know what kind of PCI device is the NI-PCI 6519, according to the definition that appear on the link: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/bus/PCI/pcibridge.mspx, under the title "Types of PCI Devices and PCI-to-PCI Bridges".
    Is the NI-PCI 6519:
    1.- a PCI-to-PCI docking bridge type?
    2.- a reset-resistant SID PCI device type?
    3.- a reset-loading SID PCI device type?
4.- a non-reset resistant SID PCI device type? or
5.- a multifunction PCI device type?
I need to know this because I have a problem with the PCI-to-PCI Bridge of my motherboard on the Power Management issue and it affects directly the PCI bus configuration of my system.
If someone knows the answer or knows somebody who knows the answer I'll appreciate very much his/her help; or maybe he/she could send me the contact to somebody.
    Thanks in advance!

    Ignacio,
The PCI-6519 is fully compliant to the PCI-2.2 specification which means that it requires the 3.3 V rail from the PCI bus.  The 6519 must be installed into a slot that provides 3.3 V. Check that the 3.3 V LED located on the top right of the 6519 device is lit. If not, check that the PC motherboard provides 3.3 V to the PCI bus. I also believe that it should be a reset-resistant or reset-loading device, but if you feel that the board is not working correctly with your pci-to-pci bridge, I would recommend that you contact NI support directly.

Did you check with Verizon to make sure that your destination country would allow the device you have to connect? The possibility is that this country does not have (or you are not in range) a carrier that uses CDMA. If the carriers in this country use GSM you may be out of luck. VZW cannot guarantee service in any country outside the USA.

The operating system and space reserved for the iPod to carry out its tasks, such as remembering what you have played and how many times you've played it (this information is Synced back to your iTunes Library at each Sync.) There is also a slight discrepancy in the way that storage size is calculated, which accounts for some of that 12GB.
    rockindon wrote:
    (Hoping to clear it)
    You cannot.
You still have 148GB for storing your music, vidoes and Podcasts. That's quite a lot.
My music library is currently 115.78GB and is a mixture of songs at various Bit Rates. (The higher the Bit Rate, usually, the better the quality.) It has more than 17,000 songs and will play (non-stop) for 58 days.
If your Library becomes (or already is) larger than this, it is possible to set iTunes to automatically manage the content, by removing (for example) recently played songs (except any specific ones you always want on your iPod) and then to put back onto the iPod songs that haven't been played for a while.
If you would like any detail on how this is done, let us know.
In the meantime, enjoy your iPod.
Create your Library of music and - my advice is - to use Sync to add everything to your iPod. In other words, do not use Manually Manage. In the long run, Sync is easier. You can still fully control what is on the iPod using Sync. Again, if you need help, this is the place to ask. Generally speaking, the more points a user has, the more people feel that have been helped by that user.

  • Is it the power cord or the battery?

My roughly 6 year old MacBook won't take a charge now.  I've replaced both the battery and the power cord in the past two years or so, I believe, and all of a sudden it's dead.  There is no charge indication on the cord so that makes me think the cord may be the culprit.  On the other hand, just before my MacBook died the battery indicator said 85% but it did show that I was running off of the battery and not charging.  Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.
