What kind of problems can I anticipate? -- just purchased a 2nd itouch

working from an imac/leopard with Mobile Me.
I have one itouch sync to main account. Works great.
I'd like the second itouch to work for my son, who uses another account on the imac, but gets all his music from the main account. I don't want him to use my calendar or see my email, but want him to have access to the music.

Hey Luis. I not only remember…I still have mine (OS 9)! Works perfectly well…for some things; just need to be selective about what I ask it to do. (Also have its big brother Pismo running Tiger, which is still an extremely competent machine.) When I take them out of their cases, I'm still amazed at the G3's build quality.

What kind of problems can leaking capacitors cause?

I inherited a faulty iMac G5 from a family member. It would not boot up and the service center that dealt with it said the hard drive was bad. It was still functional enough to extract valuable data from it, though. I surmised that it wasn't really "bad"... just suffering from some damaged system files or directory structure.
With all valuable data copied off of the drive, I figured it would be best to completely wipe it and install fresh. However, during the process the system would crash before installation completed. In a few cases that I tried this, I could boot off of the 2nd DVD and actually interface with the system. But, any running of the Disk Utility on the internal HDD volume would trigger a crash. Running "fsck -fy" in single user mode would reveal errors, but the system couldn't fix them all. And then at some points, I couldn't even get single user mode to work without crashing.
Long story short, I tested out the install with just one memory DIMM installed in slot 0, and found that it worked a little better with one of the DIMMs. I was able to run another erase/install again. FINALLY, the computer is working OK without crashes.
However, in doing this whole troubleshooting adventure, I noticed that a number of capacitors (maybe 5 or 6) are leaking slightly from the top. You can see a tiny dollup of beige powder in the middle of the vent lines on top . I read up on faulty capacitors and they can cause voltage fluctuations seemingly at random. And this can wreak havoc on hardware.
So... I need to isolate this down a bit. I ran the disk utility and the HDD checks out fine now. If it was wearing out, wouldn't it continue to show up as faulty? I'm starting to wonder if a coincidence of capacitor issues caused bad data to get written to the hard drive and screw it up. Also, I'm wondering if any of the faulty capacitors could be in the circuitry path of the memory, that might cause it to experience subtle flaws and introduce errors... or even become damaged.
Lastly, any leaking capacitors means that they should be replaced and that it may be a gamble as to how long they'll continue to work before more serious problems arise. Is there any rule of thumb about this where the G5 is concerned? If the leaking is minor and no bulging of the capacitors is evident, might the computer work fine for a while, at least a few months until I'm able to embark on a capacitor refresh project?

It's not worthwhile investing too much time or money in one of these. I had 3 logic boards replaced by Apple, all of which failed because they used refurbished boards, either with the same bad caps or boards that had been lying around for ages where the replaced caps slowly went bad over time from not having been formed. In fact, replacing the caps with known good ones would have been preferable to getting a replacement board from Apple.
The last board was the coup de grace, with the video chip failing -- another common issue with these turkeys.
My guess is the memory slot might be bad or that module. I've never heard of the caps fouling that part of the computer. But that's just my guess. I'd just keep using it until it dies, but I would be sure to have a backup (a bootable clone would be my preference) on an external drive so you don't lose all your data if and when it suddenly goes out.
But caps are relatively cheap and if you have the time, the expertise and the confidence....
See Spudnuty's posts on caps. He hasn't been around in a while, but he was the resident guru on fixing these things with bad caps. He did that all the time, but the video chip failure is probably insurmountable.

Why are so many users complaining of problems after installing Mountain Lion?

Lack of preparation, often. For example, http://roaringapps.com/apps:table lists applications that do not work under ML. Especially PPC applications that require Rosetta.
Also people do not make a decent backup first, so any issues the require starting over (they will happen occasionally) require major rebuild of what they had before starting the upgrade.
Not enough free disk space causes OSX that needs 15% free to act strangely.
Many who do not bother reporting anything had no issues and are happly using ML -- like out happy friend Kappy.

Go through the attached Publishing Companion Guide. You need to create Mobile Provisioning files using Apple iOS provisioning Portal. The guide gives you step by step information on creating these.

You can migrate to iCloud, but the only thing you will be able to do is access email, and you will have toi set Mail up manually to do this:

This is worth doing to maintain your email address, but you won't be able to sync calendars, contacts or bookmarks. Your calendars and contacts will be removed from MobileMe (though not from your Mac) and won't appear on the iCloud website.

I had a question, what kind of videos can i upload onto a new nano?
See, I have a DVD of my family reunion, someone video taped it and put it on DVD. Is it legal to use that DVD?
And I was wonering...if so, how do i get it onto the ipod? I have never used an ipod with video...so the itunes part is completely new to me.
Just to tell you though, my XP does not play dvds....any suggestions?

Anyway in most contries your aloud to make backups of your DVD and rip them to watch on your iPod.
Programms which do that include Handbrake and VisualHub.
But if its a DVD you burned yourself, you should be able to convert the files on the DVD with either Quicktime or iSquint without any of the other programms.
iSquint is great much faster than Quicktime and free.

You can create instances of a Final class...its just that you cannot override its behaviour...
btw...If you are coding the whole class, you can define a class as Final as below
CLASS CLASS_NAME DEFINITION FINAL
ENDCLASS
Else, if you use the class builder (SE24), you just need to check the Final checkbox available in the Properties section of the class.

/Ok, so what kind of videos CAN I get on my Zen?S I just bought a Zen. Been trying for 2 days to load ANY videos on my player and getting nowhere. There's probably something simply that I just don't know.
I bought a movie and a TV episode from Itunes. Downloaded to PC. Can't get them onto my Zen. Tried Creative converter, got error. No description of the error just that the conversion was "unsuccessful". I tried several other converters from on-line. Still errors.
I tried to copy multiple DVD's from the DVD dri've to my PC (to then I assume convert somehow to the Zen), they all say they are protected so I can't copy them.
So what kind of videos CAN I get on my player? It's pretty useless to have video capabilities if you can't use it at all.
Can anyone help?

As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.
