What kind of project is portal development

Is it implementation or upgrade or support

hi
hope it will help you.
Reward if help.
There are different types of Projects in SAP:
1. Implementation
Customer wants to install SAP/Include different modules of SAP viz. MM/SD/FI/CO/PP etc for the first time.Previously he might be using some legacy system in his orgn. This is implementation project. Here one needs to integrate several modules, migrate data from Legacy system to SAP system. Need to prepare interfaces/RFC's to interact with 3rd party systems.
Most of the company's follow ASAP methodology for the Implementation projects
there are 5 stages in the ASAP methodology
they are
1. Project Initial Preparation
2.Business Blueprint
3.Realization
4/ Final Preparation
5.Golive And Support
ABAP work mostly starts in the Blue print ending stage or in the realization stage
2. Support
Customer has already installed SAP & wants to give the work of maintaining those systems. This is support project
There is no phases in it. Just receive the tickets, solve and send back to client.
3. Upgrade
Customer has SAP Version 4.6b and wants to update his version i.e. wants to go to Version 4.7. This is upgrade project
4. Rollouts
Customer has upgraded his version & wants to rollout country specific changes.
This is rollout project
Say a COmpany is having branches in 3 to 4 countries.
In One country they have already implemented SAP
IF they wants to implement the same SAP in other countries of their branches they will simply follow the same SAP implementation policy (Rollout) how they have done for the first country just by changing the country specific settings and configurations.

Is it necessary for a BO Consultant to have knowledge on BI as a BI consultant does.? Are BI and BO both independent platforms.? What kind of BI knowledge is required to develop BO dashboards ?

This is purely Depend on Company Environment .
1.develop the BI reports using the 'Query Designer' : BI Consultant Responsibility.
2.or will it be prepared by the BI consultant separately. : BI Bex queries can be designed by BI Consultant's only.
    3. if prepared by the BI consultant then upto what extent BO consultant should have knowledge in BI   :  Need to understand first difference b/w BI Reporting naming convention & BO Naming convention's ,
Need to  understand complexity of the report , Need to check some reporting functionalities won't support in BO what ever created in BEX
Kindly refer below doc's : Provides detail explanation   From BI to BO all Possibilities  .
Points to be considered while integrating BW Bex queries with BO Webi
Tips & Tricks on developing smart Web intelligence reports over SAP BW Bex Query
Mapping BEx Query Elements to the SAP BusinessObjects BI 4 Query Panel
    4. or BO and BI consultants need to talk with each other everyday basis  : Depends on Complexity of the Reports.
5.Is it necessary for BO consultant to have all credential access( for BI Development in SAP Easy          Access Menu) of what the BI consultants have and do it. : Not mandatory
    6. are BI and BO consultants interdependent on each other if source is SAP BI for dashboards : Sometimes if requirement is complex (BO & BI data doesn't  matches ,then sometimes customer exit variables might create in BI not able to replicate , some times complex calculation created in BI Using some  bex query Function's)

  • What kind of user priviledge required to run SQL Developer?

So far, I was able to run SQL Developer with local admin rights in my workstation. It is ok in my Development environment. However, I don't have local admin right in production environment. I would like to know which folder and what kind of permission I should have to run SQL Developer.
    Thanks

I assume you are talking about Windows.
SQLDeveloper doesn't require any specific privieleges. You need to have write permission to some directory to allow you to install it and you need to have write permission to your profile (e.g C:\documents and settings\%USERNAME%) to save sqldeveloper's settings and preferences.

What version of WebLogic Portal are you using?

  • Portal development requirements and basics??

    helo everyone,
I am student and I read a article regarding portal development and I want to start learning this new technology. My Basic questions are
1)What are the technical requirements to develop portals with PDK?
2)Is that a compulsion that we need Oracle 9iAS installed if we have to develop portals?
3)And in which technologies(like JSP,EJB etc) do we required to have good knowledge before developing web portals?
4)Can anyone tell me the basic and good way to start learning this new technology
I kindly request you to answer my questions,,PLEASE:
    with regards,
    [email protected]

You can build your portlets using J2EE (JSPs, servlets, HTML, Java classes) or PL/SQL.
If you're building Web providers (J2EE portlets), you don't need a portal installation, you can register them on Oracle9iAS Portal Studio.
To build portal pages, yes, you'll need to have a portal installation.
You find more information on portlet building options on Oracle9iAS Portal Studio.

  • I am new in portal development . From where to start

    Hello !
I am new in portal development .
i have installed 8i db on Linux and 9iAS on win2k . Now i want
to start developent through oracle portal .
For that purpose i have downloaded PDK .
    Now what to do .
I am still unable to find the platform where i have to start
    development .
Can somebody tell me which steps are required to start
    development.
i am more interested doing development in pl/sql.
Where i have to type the code .
Where i have to execute it.
Where and how to run it.
Can somebody tell me with small example .
    Regards

    Seemab,
I feel your pain. After having been at this for a couple of
months, here's what I have to offer you.
    0) Watch every single one of the portal tutorials on this
website. They are little movies and slide shows with tutorials
and actual application walkthroughs that were EXTREMELY HELPFUL
to me and my team in the absence of formalized training. They
    were really great.
    1) Take a few days and read every single white paper that you
can about Oracle 9iAS Portal and its architecture.
    2) Use the portal interface to create groups and users.
    3) Experiment with as many aspects of the portal interface that
you can. This will help you see the strengths and limitations
of portal, and where you may need to focus your development
    effort.
    4) Create database objects like tables by using the portal
interface. Create an LOV off of one of the tables, and use it
in a form. This is all just general stuff that helped
    familiarize me with portal.
    5) Publish different kinds of documents to the portal.
    6) Create a PL/SQL item in a portal. Educate yourself on the
HTP and HTF procedures and functions to print things to the
    screen dynamically.
    7) Most important of all, download as many pieces of sample
code as you can and install it to portal. On this website you
will find numerous instances of sample portlets and
applications. You will learn what it takes to install Java-
    based providers, servlets, and others.
    8) Using a good PL/SQL tool like SQL*Navigator or TOAD, browse
your way through the PORTAL30 data dictionary, going through all
of the tables and especially the packages. This will help you
learn where you need to write code to interact with the
    underlying objects in Portal.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific than that, but you can really
be on your way to becoming a well-rounded portal developer by
experimenting with these things that I have listed.
    Good luck!
    Sincerely,
    Adrian Klingel
