What kind of Ram do I need to buy

I have a Quad Core 2.8ghz Mac Pro with 6gb of Ram. I am constantly having problems rendering video and stuff because of the low memory. I want to upgrade and add more. Here are some of the specs, I searched online but I couldn't narrow down what I needed and don't want to waste money on the wrong stuff.
Processor: 2 x 2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory: 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
and then in the memory section I have
2 2GB & 2 1GB DDR2 FB-Dimm 800MHz sticks listed
I have 4 empty slots.
What should I buy to put in the empty slots? Any links you could throw would be helpful too.
Thanks.

  • What kind of Ram do I need for my Mac?

    Hello
I want to upgrade the speed of my mac by adding a 2GB stick of ram. But what kind of ram do i need? Would this work for my Mac (Mid 2011 21.5 inch) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-PC3-10600-Desktop-Upgrade-240-pin/dp/B001NA25VS/ ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390290563&sr=8-1&keywords=2gb+ram?

Macs are very, VERY picky about the RAM specs they need.
That RAM is the wrong pin count and probably for PCs and not a Mac
Here is the proper RAM spec for your year and model.
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).

  • R830 - What kind of RAM do I need

    Hi All,
Toshiba telephone support was unable to help me so I turn to you.
    I have a Portege R830 (Model: PT320C-01J018) which has 4GB of RAM.
I assume this is commonly referred to as Portege R830-01J model? (I hope I'm right otherwise my model number simply does not exist)
I am running 64bit Win7 and would like to add another 4GB, as I wish to run VMWare. However I simply cannot figure out what kind of RAM I need to buy. The technical specs.
    Crucial RAM website says I need DDR3 1600 PC3-12800
    Kingston RAM website says I need DDR3 1333  PC3-10600
An ad on Ebay says I need DDR3 1333  PC3-10600 (same as what Kingston recommends)
I opened up the slot for the RAM but could see no markings that were helpful.
If anyone out there can shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

  • My ibook G4 powerpc 10.4.11 is locking up. What kind of disk do I need to buy to repair it?

I need to buy a copy of the OS X software to repair it but I'm confused about what I need.  Install disk or restore disk?  Is there a difference? Can I use 10.5 instead of 10.4?  All I do is surf the internet with it so I don't care about ilife and whatever else comes with the software.  I keep seeing "old model" in descriptions for the software and that confuses me more because I don't know if I'm old or new.  This is my first Mac and I think I installed an incompatible version of Adobe flash and it messed it up.

I will try the safe boot.  Meanwhile, I see software listed for sale as "Power Mac G4" Tiger install.  Is this the same thing as my powerPC ibook?
No, it is not the same.
    What is a powermac?
A Power Mac is a desktop computer. It is the predecessor to the Mac Pro.
I've heard of powerbook, macbook, ibook.  Is installation software compatible for any mac (desktop or laptop) or do I need to find something specifically designed for ibook?
No, just any old system won't work on the iBook. OS software for iBooks older than yours won't work with it, and neither will software for other types of Macs. I take it that you don't have the original system software discs that came with it when it was new? You could call Apple and see if they have the software discs for your iBook. Be prepared to give them the serial number. If they have them available, they will send them to you for a fee.
You could buy a full retail version of Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It is really what you need most, since that is what is installed on the iBook now.
Good luck with it. We are always here to help.

  • What kind of RAM do I need?

I'm looking to upgrade my iMac G4 1GHz so it will run leopard.
Right now it has only the RAM it came with:
    1 slot with 256MB DDR SDRAM PC2700U-25330.
I have no idea what any of this means, and I'm just trying to get to 512MB.
When I look for memory, what should it say so I know it will be compatible?
    Thanks!

OWC's web site has a feature where you can list upgrade by Mac model. Go here
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/
and select your exact iMac type. I would get a 1GB module to give you 1.25GB total. Your iMac has two memory slots. The slot on top comes with a 256mb module; it is not user accessible (at least not easily). The slot on the bottom is easily accessible. You can get the instructions here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75317
and other online sources. There are probably YouTube videos too.
The bottom slot can hold up to 1GB.

  • What kind of printer do I need to buy to be compatible with my iPad?

I keep trying to print to my Canon MG5220 that is connected to my AirPort Express. Every single time it(my iPad & iPhone) does not detect the printer. Yet my iMac Desktop does... So this begs the question what brand/make/model printer do I need to purchase to be able to actually print from my iPad & iPhone?

Before you buy a new AirPrint compatible printer, try installing Printopia to see if it will allow your iPhone and iPad to print.
There is a free trial, so you wil know in a few minutes whether it will work for you.
Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
Another popular choice is Handy Print, but I have not used this App.

I'm wanting to upgrade to 2gb, or possible even 4gb if possible. I don't know where I can buy some ram. Apparently there is a specific kind of ram that I need to get, and I don't know what it is, or where to get it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
P.S. I'm going to have the apple store install it for me. I may change my mind though, seeming as a lot of people are saying that it is easy.

Is there a reason that it is limited to 2GB?
The computer was only designed for 2GB and won't start up if more is installed.

I want to use the Web module to publish to the a website... What kind of server do I need to be able to publish my website?

You don't need a server, you just need a web hosting package such as the ones from GoDaddy or many other hosts. You then send the web gallery directly from LR to your web space.
As you're asking such basic questions, it might be best if you read articles like this and see if a friend or colleague can get you started.

  • I am moving to the UK, What kind of charger do I need?

I have a MacBook I got in 2009. Im moving abroad in September and Im trying to figure out what kind of charger I will need. I know you can pop off the little plug part on the adapter, and I saw on amazon that I can buy an extension that fits onto the adapter with a UK head on it. Do you think this will work? Or am I going to have to buy a completely new charger? I hope not because the adapter head on Amazon is only like $10!!! Here is a link to the adapter head which I think might work http://www.amazon.co.uk/extension-power-Adapter-Charger-Macbook/dp/B004S6VIG2/re f=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311011961&sr=8-3
I guess Im just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this. I know the voltage in the UK is like 220 and in the Sates its only 110, and I obviously dont want to fry my computer or the adapter, so I just want to make sure Im doing the right thing!!!!!!!
    Thanks everyone!

Thanks guys this is really helpful! Last time I was there I just used an adapter and ended up frying a few things haha so I think I'll get a cord instead!!! Yay, I love my Mac and would never want to hurt it haha, thank goodness they make things so easy

  • What kind of Firewire do I need for the new Mac?

    Hey Apple Community,
I have a new late 2013 Macbook Pro. I noticed that it has a new firewire port! However, I need to digitize video footage from Mini DV tapes. The camera I'll be using to digitize my footage is a Canon Vixia HV30. Does anyone know what kind of firewire cable I'd need? Will I need an adapter of some sort?
    Thanks for the help!

What kind of cable would I need exactly? I'd like to look it up and buy what I need today so that I could start my work soon. Here's some reference pictures:
And do you recommend any particular cable? I'd like to purchase a reliable product.
    Thanks again for the help!

What kind of mac would I need for Nexflix, basic search and email? Also, sounds silly, but can I connect an HDMI from Mac to tv?

Just an FYI.  The Macs named PowerMac date from early 2006 and before.  Use this tip to discover where to post once you get your Mac:
Site map of Communities and Categories
The cheapest Mac available new is a Mac Mini.   It is no bigger than many an external hard drive.  But the screen and keyboard and mouse must be purchased separately.  They support USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice, and pretty much any DVI, HDMI, or displayport display.   Although the iMac is certainly an attractive option if all you want to deal with is deciding on a printer.   I still recommend getting an Apple USB keyboard for the occasional times you may need to troubleshoot startup issues.  Normally not a problem, but as it gets older some issues can be fixed at startup or diagnosed at startup.

  • What kind of card do i need, and how easy is it to install?

I bought an airport base station, and found that my 2004 ibook G4 cannot go wireless. I called apple, and they said to buy a card on ebay and installing it won't be too hard. I'd rather do this than buy a new computer, as i just bought tiger. What kind of card do i need and how do i install it? thanks.
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You will need the original Airport card and not an Airport Extreme card.
That is incorrect. The iBook G4 requires the AirPort Extreme card.

Without any system information nobody can advise. What operating system? What system specs? What graphics hardware do you use currently? What input device? What settings in Photoshop? We could tell you to buy the latest and greatest card out there, but that might not at all resolve your issue because it#s caused by something else....
