What kind of storage we should use for oracle database?

Hi
thank you for reading my post
Can some one please explain what kind of hardware storage is common for oracle database, and kindly please provide some explanations about the reason that we can use such storage?

Perhaps you're thinking about RAID, an acronym for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks? That's not specific to Oracle by any means, it's a very common way of setting up multiple disks in a server so that the failure of one or two disks doesn't cause the system to lose any data. If you're dealing with a server of any size or any sort of SAN or NAS device, it is going to use RAID, the question is which form of RAID (there are different sorts of configurations with different levels of cost, performance, and durability).

  • What kind of virus protection to use for

wondering what kind of virus protection would be able to use although that the I'Macs has Melware and also what kind of security system would go good with a time capsule?
    thanks
    Richard Descoteaux Jr.

Regarding the anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.
As for the security system for a Time Capsule, what kind of security system are you referring to? If you want your backups to be encrypted, see:
    http://pondini.org/TM/31.html
If that's not it, you'll need to be more specific.

    Hi all :
what kind of standard inforobject can be used for compounding while creating characteristic ?

    THE ERROR :
1      Characteristic 0RESP_PERS was included in the compounding for COS09 (-> Long Text)      QLong text exists
2              0RESP_PERS is just an attribute and is not allowed in the compounding No long text exists
0RESP_PERS is an object, why  can't be  used for compouning?
Could you please tell me why ?

    Hi Jingying Sony,
One can mark an infoobject as an Attribute Only in the General tab.
This means that the infoobject will only act as an attribute and cannot be used as a characteristic in infocubes. Neither can it be used as a navigational attribute and I guess it may not be available for compounding then(since in compounding - it implicitly becomes a characteristic).

If you uncheck this checkbox, then may be it will allow you to compound this characteristic..
You may try with a (self created) ZRESP_PERS reference chararacteristic of 0RESP_PERS, to confirm this.

  • Don't know what kind of application I should use to make this kind of proj.

I am going to make a project and I am not sure what kind of program would work for this document I want to make. The project I would like to make is of a type like a family tree, or a reverse sports playoff grid, where you start out with a few headers that branch out laterally and are linked with lines (just like a family tree graph) to many different headers. I want to have each of these headers as hyperlinks that you can click on to read more text/data/pictures about each header. I want to be able to add and edit it after I created it without major adjustments to the whole thing. Is this a clear question? Any help would be great. Thanks.

  • What kind of material did apple used for the MacBook Pro rubber feet?

One of my MacBook feet is loose. Now I try to fix it by DIY. The exact materialname of the rubber is important, because then I can use the suitable glue.

  • What is the default encoding file format for oracle database.

    Hello,
I wanted to create all files in ANSI format irrespective of database characterset. is there any way to confirm?
    please help me out.

    Hello,
AS per my knowledge, UTL_FILE expects that files opened by UTL_FILE.FOPEN in text mode are encoded in the database character set And files opened by UTL_FILE.FOPEN_NCHAR in text mode are encoded in the UTF8 character set. However there is not any parameter to set default encoding format for file. It works as mentioned above.
Encoding mode is depend on database character set. If you want to change it while reading/writing file then you can use utl_encode.text_encode/ utl_encode.text_decode/ UTL_RAW.CONVERT function.
When data encoded in one character set is read and Globalization Support is told (such as by means of NLS_LANG) that it is encoded in another character set, the result is indeterminate. If NLS_LANG is set, it should therefore be the same as the database character set..
I wanted to create file using UTL_FILE. and whatever files gets create that should be in ANSI format.

  • What kind of adhesive does Apple use?

The bottom case of my TiBook is a little loose at the battery corner. When I type and rest my palms on the top case, it kind of "pops" or "clicks" a bit as the pressure moves the top and bottom cases together. It's not a big deal, but it's annoying enough to want to fix. I tried to get the folks at my local Apple repair center to deal with it under Applecare (I have about a month left.) They said it wasn't a warrantied problem, but they did offer to glue it for free. I didn't think that was a good idea, so I declined. I have since been told that Apple glued the bottom cases of the TiBook to the frame at the factory, so that would have been the appropriate repair.
If that's true, what kind of adhesive did Apple use for that, and exactly where was the glue applied? It must have been a prettty strong glue, and sparsely applied, as I didn't see any traces of it when I took the bottom off the computer. In any event, if gluing is the right move, I'd just as soon do it myself. The repair center would take at least a week, since they're usually so backed up. But I don't want to use anything that might damage the case or leak into anything.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The metal skin is really glued around the edge by a plastic frame. It is this frame that holds the skin to the main frame and can give problems.
I had to open my ti case to install an airport card. I either did it wrong or the apple glue job was poor because the gray plastic trim around the edge of the metal skin had come loose over 50% of the circumference.
I had a commercial 3M rubber cement on hand so I used that. I applied it with a toothpick very sparingly (of course the rubber cement gets stringy so the job was a ittle messy).
I let dry in a warm room for 24 hours. The reason I did that was fumes from curing glue can be caustic and attack some very thin metals etc. I fugured I wanted to lose any fumes before I trapped them in the warm computer.
It worked well and I haven't had a repeat of the problem.

  • Most widely used operating system for oracle database

    hi,
can anyone figure out which operating system is widely used for oracle database around the world.
    thanks and regards,
    Ashok

I don't think you can safely pick one single operating system for Oracle.
Over the years I have seen various Unix flavors, VAX/VMS, Windows and others being used to a great extent for running Oracle database.
Picking one flavor will be tougher then having to program the database under any operating system it is made available.

  • Hardware for oracle database

    Hi,
is there any good documentation source where I can find information about hardware which is good to use for oracle database.
I need to select new hardware for single instance OLTP database with ~ 150 users. Db size is not big. < 50 gb. OS - Linux Red Hat.
    Any advices?
    M.

Ideally you should get some benchmarking regarding your requirements and then you can choose on the Hardware. The budget also matters here.
You need to identify the response time required for all number of users, concurrent users and total size of the database. Now a days people opt Intel based (not much costly compared to SUN,IBM) and Linux operating system also.
There is no clear cut guideline.

  • What kind of database driver should use for database adapter  in BPEL?

what kind of database driver (XA or non-XA) should use for database adapter in BPEL? I have only one database adapter and no JMS.

    Edited by: 799095 on Sep 30, 2010 8:35 AM

    Hi
It depends on wheter you need XA transaction or not.
    See http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=21385 third reply.
If you only have one database and no synchronous dependency to the caller, non-XA should be OK.

  • What kind of version checking should be done for applications using SQLDBC

    Hi,
This query is regarding the kind of version checking that an application should do.
Currently I am building my application in MaxDB version of 7.6.05.09, which is the community edition available on the sdn download site currently, this will change to the enterprise edition once we have finalized everything in terms of code and packging etc....
Now when the application is shipped to customer site, what kind of version checking should the application do to ensure that the version of library/kernel/client/sdk it has been built with is consistent with the one that is installed at the customer site.
From what i see SQLDBC exposes the following method for getting version related information.
    char * SQLDBC_Environment_getLibraryVersion(SQLDBC_Environment* hdl);
    char *getSDKVersion();
SQLDBC_Int4 SQLDBC_Statement_getKernelVersion(SQLDBC_Statement* hdl); (Note: Wondering why should a handle to SQLDBC_Statement be needed to find the Kernel version)
Just to give you little more hint of what i am talking about, for MySQL database we use the functions
mysql_get_client_version and mysql_get_server_version and check that the values returned by these functions are less than the value which was used at build time.
    Regards
    Raja

    Hello Raja
    From the documentation:
    const char* SQLDBC::SQLDBC_Environment::getLibraryVersion ()
Returns the version of used SQLDBC runtime.
This is the version of the used SQLDBC library. The version of the loaded
runtime may differ from the version inidacted in the used header. It is our
aim that newer versions of the runtime will run with old applications without
    the need to be re-compiling.
Therefore, for compatibility checks, use getLibraryVersion.
getKernelVersion is also available from the connection:
    SQLDBC_Connection::getKernelVersion()

what kind of external drive should I get for my macbook pro for backups and storage

Hi, i have a Mercury Elite-AL Pro from OWC, www.otherworldcomputung.com
    this is the one;
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEAQ7S1TB32M/
have had this for over two years, moved around a lot with the drive, ( to date ) no problems, they have good after sales support; give them a call if you need info.
There are a lot of drives out there as others here will let you know, there are good NAME drives but they also fail, POPULAR drives also fail, select the one you are happy with for your system and how you plan to use.
i suggest if $ is not a problem get a big drive you will find someting to put on it and is better.

China phones should be purchased there as they use unique carrier settings. Phones from other countries may not work properly.
