What kind of upgrades are my iMac model eligible for?

Hi, I have the same problem and was wondering if someone could walk me through what I need to do to find out what kind of upgrades the iMac model I have is eligible for?
<Re-Titled By Host>

The model identifier info provided shows what may be a 20-inch or 24-inch, as iMac7.1
These may see an upgrade in RAM so as to facilitate running a system software upgrade:
Maximum Memory   6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
Until some time ago there had been a Firmware Update:  iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.3
however, now the link previously available, appears to no longer function.
According to http://mactracker.ca database application, your general iMac7.1 series is
able to run as new a system as Yosemite 10.10; however some users had found that to
be a bit far of a reach for this old a model due to hardware limits of the vintage. If not
already running at least Snow Leopard 10.6.8, you could get & try Mountain Lion 10.8.5
(buy $19. upgrade code, from Apple; that would unlock Mac app download) as Mavericks
10.9.5 is no longer available as an upgrade to older systems. The theory is that if a Mac
could use Mavericks, it should be able to accommodate Yosemite. But, not always.
Some people liked Snow Leopard 10.6.8 - and it is on retail DVD for easy offline restore
or bootable utilities on the same disc - still available from Apple $19. It should run fine
unless you have some need to upgrade further. This system is needed to go to App Store
and other aspects of the newer OS X available from the internet only.
The site http://everymac.com has a fair database of most things Mac, so that in addition
to the download MacTracker app, are good references and hardware example data.
Hopefully this helped some.
Good luck & happy computing!

What kind of tables are suitable for partitioning?
I have several tables in same schema. Each of them is bigger than 200MB. DML commands are executed continuously against these tables. After diagnosis, I know than the sequential read wait is the root cause. Should I partition each of them?

BTW sequential read wait has to do with index scans, not table scans. Table scan waits are reported as scattered reads, not sequential.

  • What kind of costs are assessed and distributed

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone explain to me what kind of costs are usually assessed and what kind of costs are usually distributed?
    Thanks

    hi there,
ok lets say you have a company and you have diff departments in there for say manufacturing, accounting, sales, marketing, HR and so on...and each are made cost centers since as you know each dept is a cost center where some or the other cost incurr on them
and you will have expenditure on ur company right!
lets say you have to pay electricity ,and rent for the building , and water bill, and postage and telegram expenses and things like that..
each department might be using diff units of electricity for say manufactuting department might use the 70 % of the total bill and other depts use only 30% of the whole bill but in the electricity expense GL you will put down the 100 % bill
since we have cost centers and this amt is goin to cost center attached on that gl so at later point they distibute the amt to other cost centers accordingly for internal auditing purpose ( to keep track of ) how much cost incurring in whihc department.
hope this gives you some idea on what you are looking for. assign points if helpful

  • What are 27" iMac owners doing for speakers

I'm getting my new iMac on Monday or Tues and I'm starting to wonder what I will do for sound. I have a 2.1 system now on a G5 tower and I must say it rocks. The iMac sounds quite underpowered in my mind. Are people using external speaker setups, a bass with the speakers in the computer or an external setup? If using a bass only how do you have it set up. If external speakers, whats the best at a good price these days. I have a huge sub and would like to slim down. If your using the internal speakers only, are you satisfied? Again I like great sound and I'm afraid the iMac won't satisfy my need for a rich and powerful sound.

I think I kinda understand your question, so I'll give it a shot:
You can probably lean towards either a 2.1 system OR a nice pair of "near field" stereo powered speakers and be very satisfied. Technically, your iMac does have an optical output, so it will pass thru a 5.1 mix to your external AV system or self contained 5.1 system with an optical input.
But you really are not suffering with a nice pair of powered 'stereo' speakers or a nice 2.1 system connected via your headphone output (instead of trying to go 5.1) on your new iMac. I don't game much, so I've never "missed" having a 5.1 system at my homeoffice desk (and I prefer watching 5.1 movies on my THX home theatre). My 5-Year old compact RSL Digital Fidelity 2.1 system still rocks me from 6' away (with a little help from SRS iWow plugin). They fit so perfectly on my desks design.
    But a set of reference monitors will be my next upgrade (I am in no hurry);
The M-Audio speaker line mentioned above (ie: BX-5a or AV40)) is a very good idea of what a modern pair of reference monitors, near field, looks like, and what kind of specs they have ('near-field'meaning that you will mostly be sitting near speakers, not trying to power a giant room.
Personally, I am going to see if I can figure out a high quality adaptor and look at the Mackie line.
I like the sound of it too: Mackie monitors for my Mac studio.
    http://www.mackie.com/products/studiomonitors/index.html
I am really intrigued by the MR8 and MR5: excellent bang-for-buck reference monitors IMO.

  • What is the latest OS and iMac model that would support CS2?

I'm trying to figure out how to go about selecting the "right" iMac to suit my current needs and means. Like many folks (I'm guessing), I don't have the money to upgrade every time a)apple comes out with ANOTHER new generation of iMac/OS b)Adobe comes out with updated versions of their software suites.
What I need to know is:
    1) Do the current iMac Intel CPU's (or the newest Mac OS) support software as old as Adobe CS 2?
    2) If the current iMac's no longer support my software, what is the most current generation of iMac's to do so?
    3) I would like to connect an additional monitor (I have an older 17" apple cinema display) to my iMac. Can anyone suggest iMac models that would accomodate my need?
    4) Any suggestions of reputable sellers of older generations of Apple products, new or refurbished? Any sellers that should be avoided?

    1) Yes and no. Yes CS2 will run on Intel based Macs but the performance may be a bit slower. The next problem is that Adobe does not fully support CS2 to run in Leopard. It will run but you might come across small glitches once in a while.
    2) To avoid the Leopard compatibility issue you would need an ALU iMac from 2007 or earlier that comes with OS X 10.4(Tiger).
    3) You would need to purchase two adapters. A mini DVI to DVI connector and the ADC Power adapter for the display which is about $100.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9321G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg3Nw
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg4NA
    4) I would prefer an Apple certified refurbished iMac but they may not have one old enough for what you want.
If you don't have the money to upgrade everything including your software you might consider purchasing a used G5 tower. That way you can run Tiger and CS2 without any problems and still use your current LCD without having to buy any expensive adapters.

  • External harddrive (also, what kind of internal drive does iMac use)

I was just wondering what kind of hard drive apple uses. I am getting an intel iMac soon and although I probably won't upgrade the harddrive now I may consider adding an external one later on.
My question is this: How come it is $300 to add 250 gigs internally on the machine? That seems like a lot of money to me(amateur)considering you can get external drives for almost half that. Is the quality that good, or is it just a matter of engineering?
Also, any recommendations of good external drives? Thanks!

    Dunebug38,
Apple uses different manufacturers for their hard drives. I have a Western Digital hard drive in my iMac. I know that Apple uses Seagate hard drives also, and likely others, as well.
I couldn't say why Apple charges so much to add the larger hard disk. Apple charges more for memory too, at least beyond 1GB.
As for external drives, I have two Other World Computing external hard disks, both of which have an OWC case and Western Digital 300GB drives. I bought the case kit and hard drives separately, and installed the hard drive myself (which is quite easy to do). These work flawlessly with my iMac. When you look for an external drive, I suggest that you look for a FireWire drive (or combination FireWire/USB 2.0), and be sure that it has the Oxford 911 bridge, as this one is known to work well with Macs.
    I hope this helps.

  • What should I upgrade in my iMac 21.5"?

I'm planning to buy an iMac 21.5 with 2.9 GHz. I have money for 2 things to upgrade but I don't know what to upgrade!
I use my mac for Photoshop, AutoCAD, Solid Works (Parallels with Windows 7) and obviously other smaller programs like Spotify, iTunes, Pages, Keynote, etc.
I'm sure to upgrade from quad-core i5 to quad-core i7 but the thing I'm not so sure is to go with the 16 gb RAM instead of 8 but stay with the 1TB ATA Serial HD or:
stay with the 8 gb RAM and upgrade the HD for 1TB Fusion Drive or 256 gb Flash.
    Thanks

Photoshop and Spotify will likely use up a lot of memory, so consider upgrading to 16GB.

  • What steps to upgrade panther on imac

I want to upgrade an old imac 350mhz (Indigo, slot loader with 192 mb ram) with Panther retail disks. It's only for internet use by my infant children to access their school website etc.
I've carried out quite an exhaustive search over this forum to find an overview of the steps i need to action. So far i've added the latest firmware update, upgraded the hard drive to a 20gb drive, changed the pram battery and ordered another 512mb memory stick from Crucial.
Usually i'd zero write the hard drive and install panther on the clean disk. I'm worried that this will erase the firmware update. Is this right or need i not be worried?
If anybody can provide a link that easily identifies each step i would be very grateful.
I do not intend to leave OS 9.2.2 on the computer - Can this cause any issues further down the line such as if i need to boot from disk etc?

firmware dones't reside on the hard drive, its loaded to the motherboard, so it doens't matter what you do to the drive, the firmware update is there an nothing can change that.
getting rid of OS 9 shouldn't cause any problem, other than you won't be able to use classic in OS X.

You can't install Access Manager without full control on the base organization.
You need the Directory Manager user (maybe with a temporary password) or a user with full permissions on the Access Manager root DN.
    Hope It Helps
