What kind of video camera do I need to be able to import to

I do not know what kind of video camera I need to have to import to iPhoto. My parents have a VHS camcorder. Can I use that one? Do i need to have a digital camcorder?

Hi Katrina,
welcome to thsi forum
to throw in some €cents...:
* mini-dv, nothing else
* with the "big" brands (Sony, Canon, ...) you stay save
* go to a shop and make some "hands on experience"... Panasonic for example is VERY small for some hands...
* ask for a firewire-cable, 4/6pin to connect camera with your Mac (no, usb DOESN'T work)
* that camera doesn't need any effects...- you will add this in iMovie..., so a very basic one is good enough
* get a second battery and a tripod ;-))
* follow any other advice given you here in this forum
and, besides, no, vhs camcorder don't work with iM....

  • What kind of video camera?

Im a sony type of guy when it comes to digital cameras and video cams. i was wondering if the DCR-SR62 30GB hard drive would work. Whats the best type of camera to use to just hook up and put on your computer without all the converting, such as a mini-DV, Harddisk, hi8, digital8.

If anyone could help me wth this because i just like filming stuff. like vacations and jsut random videos. i just use imovie. i was wondering what sony video cam i should get because im getting one the beginning of May. Thanks!
PS: i was also wondering what a good and EASY to use editing program is. i can figure stuff out by just using it. or should i just stick with imovie?

Always go Mini-DV...basically DV which is Digital Video. If you want to do some editing with your camera and footage, the DV cam is your best bet, whether it be regualr DV (Standard-Definition) or HDV (Hi-Definition). The camera's that can be a major pain while editing in all different editors are: Hard-Drive and Hi8.
I'd be suprised if you would come to find a Hi8 camera, as they are extremely outdated. It's a good idea for you to keep a backup of your vacation/kid's graduation video's to your computer for a great backup and then you could edit it and throw it on a DVD for family viewing.
If you do not want to edit your footage you shoot, go ahead and get the hard drive camera. This is the future format, but for now, there's no way to edit it easily. If you get it, in the future there will sure be a software update of some sort that allows import with camera's with hard drives. They still work well and deliver relitively good quality, while on the camera of course, but you will need to compress the video to edit with it, thus compressing your footage and potentially reducing quality at either drastic measures or minimal measures.
If you want a more intensive editing program that allows multi-layers, more audio, and a much better application to keep yourself organized while editing, get Final Cut Express ($299). It's relitively easy to learn, if you have the time and is extremely powerful for price. You are getting a great application for your money.
    Hope this was some help...

  • What kind of video card do I need for Motion 2?

So I just went to load Motion 2 on my laptop - I just had it upgraded to a 120 gig hard drive from a 60 gig, now I have room for all my software but as I went to install Motion 2 I got an error message saying I don't have the right or appropriate video card...Well, what do I need, becasue every other app in FCP studio works fine on my lap top with the video card I have.
What do I need, where to get it and how much?
    Thanks much

You need a video card supported by the program, as listed in the Technical Specifications - Sorry
Even if you could find a Dr. Frankenstein to put a card in it would be scetchy at best and pricey to say the least.

  • What type of video camera do people use to edit professionally these days?

I use to own a Mini DVC camcorder that I would edit video with in Final Cut Pro. Now since my Mini DVC camcorder broke I'm shopping for a new video camera but found myself really confused on what I need to buy for a good professional video camera at this point. It seems like DVC camcorders have been turned obsolete and now my options is a camcorder with a hard drive or a sd card in it, unless there are other options I'm not seeing at the local best buy.
I'm a little hesitant with the SD and hard drive cameras just for the fact that I would think they would be compression the video when saving it to these new formats, and I also don't know what compression scheme there using. With a DVC all I had to do is shoot the video and then hook it up to my computer via firewire and capture it, this would allow me to compress the video while I was capturing it.
With these new cameras I have no clue on what compression scheme they use and if there even a good option for good professional video editing. I'm not looking to spend to much money, I was hoping I could get something between $200 - $400 tops, but I wouldn't spend this type of money till someone gave me a little advice on what format is right to use with computer video editing these days.
Any advice or recommendations would be very appreciated. If the price is right I would take standard definition (just for the fact that my Mac is a G4 and I don't really think it can do HD video that well), but if I could have an option to later shoot in HD that would be very helpful to.

With a DVC all I had to do is shoot the video and then hook it up to my computer via firewire and capture it, this would allow me to compress the video while I was capturing it.
DV video, recorded onto DVC (Digital Video Cassette) tapes, would NOT be compressed during capture. DV, DVCam and DVCPro (all varieties of the DV25 codec) is compressed 5:1 when recorded to tape. When you capture, all that happens is a straight digital transfer of 1s and 0s from the tape to your computer. No further compression was taking place.
What type of video camera do people use to edit professionally these days?
All types. Everything from Flip cameras to HDCam SR.
I'm a little hesitant with the SD and hard drive cameras just for the fact that I would think they would be compression the video when saving it to these new formats
You'd better get over that ... tape-based recording is going the way of the audio cassette.
I also don't know what compression scheme there using
Now you've hit upon what I consider to be the main problem with non-tape cameras; many manufacturers have taken to using codecs that were originally designed for final delivery, like H.264. So they need to be converted to an editable format PRIOR to editing. That's probably the reason that Apple developed the ProRes family of codecs. It's definitely a change in workflow. The other real issue I have with non-tape recording is the lack of a decent archive method. With tape you had a built-in archive medium; the tape itself. But with the new card-based recording, your archive options are limited and more expensive than tape.
    If the price is right
And what price would that be? What's your budget?

  • What kind of programming background do you need to start making iOS apps?

I have zero knowledge of programming. I have done programming about 7 years ago and it was extremely basic stuff and mostly to do with C. I have learnt BASIC language (wonder if its even worth mentioning) in school!! But, I really want to program. Even if it takes a long time. How do I get started??

Your question "What kind of programming background do you need to start making iOS apps?" does not have a single answer. Thanks to the internet, nowadays its possible to start from zero. You can find an answer for even the most basic question on the internet. It just a question of time and effort. If you have
    the time
    no pressing deadline and a
    high frustration tolerance
just go ahead and do it.

  • What kind of view object would I need to create to achieve this ADF form?

I have an entity that has several dates. The dates are stored in a table separate from the entity, each entity date has a date type (open, close, interview, etc) associated with it. The DBAs idea (who else of course!) was to have the flexibility to add new types of dates for entities when needed.
So you have tables like this -
    Table: EntityTable
    Columns: EntityId, EntityName
    Table: DatesTable
    Columns: EntityId, Date, DateTypeCd
I need to display an editable ADF form where I can update the entity and the entity dates
The ADF form would contain something like this
    Entity Name: []
    Opening Date: []
    Closing Date: []
    Interview Date: []
What kind of view object would I need to create to achieve this?

That would be a master-detail relation 1-* between 'entity' and 'entity dates'. If your dba has set up the foreign key association in the db and you use the wizard to create the business objects, jdev pick up the relation and create the correct master detail relation in the vo layer for you.
By the way naming a table 'entity' is not a good idea when working with ADFbc. We all talk about entities when we relate to a business object (in this case a row of a table or entity object or EO). So it's hard to distinguish the two, your specific table 'entiyt' and the common term entity or EO which can be a row of any table.

what kind of video formats can i use to import into imovie?

    Hello,
Adobe stopped supporting flash for android since ICS. You may still be able to download the latest (old) flash player "at your own risk" from Adobe archived flash player versions:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
Please read the disclaimer at the end as it is not advised to install unsupported flash versions.
As for video streaming, there are lot of apps for that and it's just a matter of your preference.
    Hope that helps

  • What kind of videos can I use?

I had a question, what kind of videos can i upload onto a new nano?
See, I have a DVD of my family reunion, someone video taped it and put it on DVD. Is it legal to use that DVD?
And I was wonering...if so, how do i get it onto the ipod? I have never used an ipod with video...so the itunes part is completely new to me.
Just to tell you though, my XP does not play dvds....any suggestions?

    Whats t&c?
Anyway in most contries your aloud to make backups of your DVD and rip them to watch on your iPod.
Programms which do that include Handbrake and VisualHub.
But if its a DVD you burned yourself, you should be able to convert the files on the DVD with either Quicktime or iSquint without any of the other programms.
iSquint is great much faster than Quicktime and free.

  • Ok, so what kind of videos CAN I get on my Zen?

/Ok, so what kind of videos CAN I get on my Zen?S I just bought a Zen. Been trying for 2 days to load ANY videos on my player and getting nowhere. There's probably something simply that I just don't know.
I bought a movie and a TV episode from Itunes. Downloaded to PC. Can't get them onto my Zen. Tried Creative converter, got error. No description of the error just that the conversion was "unsuccessful". I tried several other converters from on-line. Still errors.
I tried to copy multiple DVD's from the DVD dri've to my PC (to then I assume convert somehow to the Zen), they all say they are protected so I can't copy them.
So what kind of videos CAN I get on my player? It's pretty useless to have video capabilities if you can't use it at all.
    Can anyone help?
    Sign me, aggravated.

I can't help you with iTunes, because I studiously avoid that software. But check your personal messages for more help.

  • What kind of graphic card do I need for second screen?

I have a Mac Pro with GTX 680 card that outputs to a 27" Cinema Display and 42" TV. The TV screen is a few frames of, so I understand I need a separate videocard for the TV so I can adjust this with frame offset in FCP.
What kind of card is suitable for this? There is 30m distance from Mac to TV, is this too long for HDMI cable?

I don't know.  My experience with Aja IO card is that's it's more complicated configuring it (at least with fcp7).  I have a friend with a macpro and every time we need to use it, it requires playing around with control panel and the view settings within fcp.  Maybe operator error.  The BlackMagic just usually works although I found with Avid Media Composer 7, if you tried to load material that didn't match the project settings, you could not get the project to every play out through the intensity.  You'd have to create a new project and open your existing bins in the new project.  Took me a while to figure out what was going on.
Aja's support is supposedly much better, but I did get answers via email from blackmagic with the avid issue.  Took a few days, but they did come thru.
