  • MacPro suddenly losing power - what log file(s) can I check?

I've been having a strange problem over the last several months where my MacPro will suddenly turn itself off. It's exactly like a power failure, but only the computer is affected (monitor, other devices all fine).
I bought a UPS thinking that it was a line problem, but the machine still turns itself off once in a while, anywhere from once or twice a month to three times a week.
I suspect it's being caused by something connected to the computer, but there's not too much there - a USB hub, printer, iPhone, a couple of iPods, and a gaming headset.
What log files on the Mac can I check for possible causes to this problem? I tried looking through the Console Messages app for log errors, but there's so much there I was overwhelmed by data.
Can anyone suggest a specific log or two to inspect, or any troubleshooting techniques that may identify the problem? Anyone ever have a similar problem?
    Thanks!
    -Joe

This isn’t too helpful, but I’ve been having exactly the same problem over the last couple of weeks. It doesn’t seem to be power line (printer and other stuff on the same line don’t go down). Oddly, it turns itself off and then reboots (though I do NOT have reboot after power failure checked).
Two things I’m presently focusing on are (a) the fact that, at least the last few days when I’ve been logging the problem, it ALWAYS does this about 8:15 a.m. Doesn’t matter whether I’m at the computer using it or not. (b) Always, always, always when it’s happened I’ve had Microsoft Word open. But I almost always have Word open, though I’m going to make sure that I don’t have it open at 8:15 tomorrow morning.
Reset PRAM, checked the disk with AlSoft’s Disk Warrior, and downloaded and am currenty running Symantec’s AntiVirus. Can’t think of any likely viruses that would do this, but it seems worthwhile to me to check. I’m going to check fonts for badness of some one or more, and I’m this moment downloading an update to Microsoft Office that is supposed to make it more stable. But an application shouldn’t be able to force a power-down and reboot.
I’m going to the Apple store tomorrow to ask for advice there. My one post here hasn’t gotten any suggestions.
It’s not an obvious kernel panic (i.e., not the usual kernel panic message). Just a little power click, black screen, and a few seconds later a reboot.

  • After upgrade to iOS 6, one of my apps won't load. It seems to, then just ends. Is there an error log I can check?

After upgrade to iOS 6, one of my apps won't load. It seems to, then just ends. Is there an error log I can check?

so your starting it up and its just crashing right away, yes? can you tell me what app it acutally is? as iOS6 is so new my thought would be that its probably incompatable with it at this time, im having trouble with my networks app that just will not let me log in at all!
id suggest going to the page of the app on the app store and look to see if it says if its compatable or not? as for a error log its in usage data, which is in settings > general > about, and i think its near the bottom.

  • Timeout occuring; what logs can I look at to pinpoint root cause?

    This is from server logs:
    2004-07-27 18:03:12 | ServiceManager | NOTICE | unknown | unknown |
      Timeout starting additional services.
      Not started services:
      keystore (manual start needed)
      iiop (manual start needed)
      ejb20 (manual start needed)
      ssl (manual start needed)
      servlet_jsp
      ageing (manual start needed)
What logs should I look at to gain a more granular information on why server has failed to startup...
    Thank
    John

    John,
If you need to drill down to the service level for issues then go to the log service and bump the logging level up.
under cluster\server\services\log you find the properties file, you can increase to DEBUG-LEVEL by changing LogLevel from 6 to 8.
Check your Adminmanual (under the docs directory of your J2EE) for more details if needed.

  • What Logging to choose?

    Hi,
I have an ADF JSF EJB under JDEV 11.1.1.2.0
I need to know what logging system should I use.
The compatibility and performance is a must.
    I came across these loggers:
    1- ADF Logger
    2- LOG4J
    3- java.util.logging
    4- Apache commons Logging
What is the best logging tool to use.
The application is not necessarily deployed under WLS.
    Thank you

Without wanting to turn this into a my-logger-is-better-than-yours debate, I get the feeling logback is a much better option than log5j. It's native, which makes it much faster than log4j, and was created by the original log4j developer. I'm looking at Log5j and it appears to be a simple wrapper over log4j.
The ADF logger is good, but it introduces an ADF-dependency on code that might be refactored into non-adf-specific code in the future? shrug :)

  • Can anybody please tell me what is escapse sign ( check box) external data

    Hi ,
Can anybody please tell me , What is Escape Sign (check Box) in external data tab in infopackage
    Thanks
    PP

    Hi PP,
If you are loading data from an Excel CSV file, specify the data separator and the escape character.
Specify the separator that your file uses to divide the fields in the Data Separator field.
If the data separator character is a part of the value, the file indicates this by enclosing the value in particular start and end characters. Enter these start and end characters in the Escape Charactersfield.
    Example:
You chose the; character as the data separator. However, your file contains the value 12;45 for a field. If you set u201C as the escape character, the value in the file must be u201C12;45u201D so that 12;45 is loaded into BI. The complete value that you want to transfer has to be enclosed by the escape characters.
If the escape characters do not enclose the value but are used within the value, the system interprets the escape characters as a normal part of the value. If you have specified u201C as the escape character, the value 12u201D45 is transferred as 12u201D45 and 12u201D45u201D is transferred as 12u201D45u201D.
    Hope this information helps u.........

  • What is missing part check in inventory

    Hi Experts,
I want to know what is missing part check in inventory ?
    Thanks !

    Hi Dipika,
A missing part is a stock of material that is already assigned to a goods issue at the time of goods receipt. This means that a current requirement could not be covered from existing stock(shortage or requirement undercoverage situation). As a rule, such a missing part bypasses the warehouse and ,upon receipt ,is forwarded directly to the point at which it is needed. However, this is only possible if the entered and the responsible materials planner are informed of such receipt.
You must make following settings in customizing for <b><i>Inventory management and physical inventory under Goods Receipt>Set Missing Parts Check</i></b>
1)<b>Activation of missing part check per plant</b>
    2)<b>Definition of a checking rule</b>
3)<b>Specification of the details for control of the availability check</b>:To use the missing part check, you must enter a checking horizon for the missing part check. The checking horizon indcates for how many days in the future the system checks whether shortfall quantities exist for the material.Within the checking horizon,an email is sent from inventory management informing the materials planner that there has been a goods receipt for a missing part.
4)<b>Assignment of checking rule:</b>At transaction level, the missing part check uses the same checking rules as the availability check. However, you have the option of maintaining different checking rules at movement type level. The checking rule of the movement type takes precedence over that of the transaction.Note that an entry for the movement type without an entry for the transaction has no effect.
5)<b>Specification of the mail receipient(Email user):</b>The system sends the missing part message to materials planner(MRP Controller) responsible for the material. In order for this to happen,a user ID must be assigned to the materials planner
6)<b>Specifications of missing part expediter</b>:If no user ID assigned to the responsible materials planner, the message is ent to the central missing part expediter responsible for the plant. This person is defined per plant.

    Hi,
What is the Availability check value in material master relevant for batches in standard SAP except CH.
As far as I know CH will enable to have automatic batch determination at sales order level. In the same manner, do we have any other availability check value in standard SAP like CH which will enable batch determination at delivery level.

Don't post the same question repeatedly. Keep one thread open and close the other threads.
You have already posted the same at  Wha is batch relevant availability check value in standard SAP except CH

I'm in almost full agreement with everything you've said except for the ************** sites part. Most current Mac malware comes from very ordinary and even top level sites these days. Flashback came from hundreds of main stream WordPress blog sites. The New York Times primary web site was spreading malware for 24 hours before it was discovered. Users can no longer feel confident of not being infected just because they avoid sketchy sites.

  • What log files to clean up after shut down of Vision R12.0.4

    Hi,
I installed EBS R12.0.4 VISION on my laptop running Oracle Linux 5. What log files can I delete after everytime I shut down the APPS instance as I don't have enough space left on my harddrive.
