What mac mini should i get to edit 1080p dslr (Canon 60d) home movies with imovie

Hi
I have a lot of 1080p (25fps) footage from a Canon 60D dslr (SD card) and footage from an old Sony MiniDV (firewire). Which I want to edit down.
I have two monitors24" Full HDs, so am looking to get a Mac Mini to do this editing (using Imovie). I dont need fcp. Its purely editing down footage into short home movies..
Out of the two mac mini's (the one with the Radeon HD and the one with the slightly slower i5 and Intel HD 3000 graphics) is it worth the extra £200. Or will the $699 model do the job?
I'm unsure if the GPU & RAM increase will make a noticable difference. I have no problem upping the ram myself.

Any of them will be fine for what you what you want. I have a 2009 Mac mini and it can handle FCP no worries. Make sure you get a decent hard drive and memory though. Although you may just want to run iMovie, final cut pro is very good and easy to use. I use the mojo plugin by red giant which does wonders for skin tones.
I use canon 7d video on mine

  • If I bought a late 2012 mac mini, should I get a copy of the Mountain Lion OS as well?

I recently bought a mac mini within the last 2 months. Love the computer. But what I want to know is, shouldn;t I get a divital copy of the OS? I mean, if you buy a computer, you typically get the install discs fior the OS. Shouldn;t I be entitlted to the same as well? please let me know. Thanks!

Something I would suggest, get a USB memory stick
and make a copy of the Recovery HD onto it.
Go here and download and follow instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
This will let you get a reinstall should the internal
drive get corrupted to the point of being unusable
and at the very least allow you to diagnose the problem.

  • Which mac mini should I get to setup osx server

    Hello!
I run a small development team though we are fairly new at working together and we're trying to setup an efficient development environment for us.  I've recently stumbled on to 'continuous integration' and had heard that a Mac Mini server can go a long way toward reaching that goal.
Keep in mind, though we're iOS developers and are technologically competent, none of us have server admin experience.
Unfortunately the latest update to Mac Mini does not have a server model.  That leads me to the following questions:
    1) Should I purchase an older mac mini that is already setup as a server?  (aka, Mac mIni server)
    2) Should I purchase one of the newer models and install OSX Server myself?  I heard it's cheap off the Mac App store, so price is not a concern, but I'm not sure what the tradeoffs are of getting one that is already a supposed server, and setting one up myself as a server.
    3) If I do purchase one of the three newer models, how do I know which one I need to support our environment?  Lower cost is obviously better, but I don't want to short change ourselves on the required power.  We would use the server mostly for file sharing, collaborating, code repos, CI, etc.  We have a website that we host on Godaddy and I would move it to our server if I could, but this is low on the priority list.
I'm also open to options such as, do none of the above and wait for a new Mac mini server model to come out, but I'm anxious and want to get started
Thanks so much for your help and advice!
    Frankie

A server model is NOTHING but a 2nd 2.5" HD and the OSX Server APP
buy a quad core mini (on sale now at best buy), and purchase a 1TB Hitachi ($65) 7200RPM HD off ebay
and purchase the server APP from the APP STORE.
OR, just find a new or used server model 2012 Mini
dont even think about fooling with the new 2014 Mini.   Lost cause.
I use godaddy as well, and ergo have NO need for a Mini server, even though I own 4 Mac Minis.
godaddy is cheaper and easier ......you should possibly consider the same

  • What mac program should I use to edit html?

I am used to editing my website using html on my old PC but am now using the mac much more and would like to do it from here. I transferred the file over but can't work out which program to use for the editing. Thanks for any help with this.

Are you looking to edit the raw HTML itself?  If so, you can't do better than the free TextWrangler or its not-free big brother, BBEdit (made by the same company).  I personally use TextWrangler.
If you're looking for an editor that won't make you look at the HTML, what were you using on the PC?

  • What kind of Mac configuration should I get for video editing

I have been using after effects and premiere pro a lot and has been experiencing lots off lag, even when I am using the Internet. What Mac configuration should I get for this type of editing?

When I was doing more video editing, two things mattered ..... a fast CPU and lots of memory. Having the horsepower to handle activities like rendering really helps.
On lag, while it certainly can be application-driven, you might look over this FAQ for some ideas.
If you haven't already, you might also ask in the FCP dicussion here.

Your Mac must be on Lion (10.7) to run iCloud. Apple had to change the operating system to fully support it. Nevertheless, it is possible to get emails from iCloud without having Lion. Please tell me if this interests you.
Anyways, here is the link to buy Lion (30 dollars, totally worth the upgrade ): http://itunes.apple.com/be/app/os-x-lion/id444303913?mt=12

    Whatever
Push the power button and hold it until the mini shuts down, then start it again.

  • What Mac Mini to buy?

    Hello all,
I'm about to make the jump to Mac. Having already owned and iPhone and iPad and loved them it's time for me to get ride of my PC and simplify everything.
My questions is what version Mini should I buy.
    My goal is this:
Install in my living room as a media center and hook up to my 55in TV. From there I want to be able to watch my downloaded content, play music, web surf, etc. This is pretty straight forward and I'm sure the basic model will suffice. Where my problem comes from is I have a large amount of recorded hockey games from my beer league that I would like to share with all my teammates. What would be the best way to do that? Also since that takes up a considerable amount of storage I'll need to either attach a external hard drive or a external hard drive back up system. Would one need the server version to do this or could I do it on a normal mini? I know just enough to make me dangerous so any thoughts, opinions, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am assuming that you mean sharing over the internet.  Setting up
a Mini as a server is not as much an issue an as whether your ISP
has sufficient upstream bandwidth to accomplish this as well as other
restrictions that the ISP may have for doing such a thing.
There are various means to accoplish sharing over the web without
setting up a server as such in regular OSX Lion.  Also, any Mini can
be used as a server.  The server function for Lion is now an add on
available through the App Store.  I also believe that the new PLEX
server application can work over the internet.
I think more than likely, your real issue will be with your ISP and
having your friends connect to you.
As for use as a media center, I suggest getting the next version
up the line with the discrete AMD graphics card.  This will let
future possibilities open that the integrated Intel HD3000 may
    not permit.

  • What volt charger should I get for my MacBook? It is a DC to AC inverter?

Hi, I recently purchased a inverter charger that has an outlet to charge a computer and can be used as a typical USB charger for a phone. The charger says that it has a continuous charge of 120V but a maximum of 150V. I don't understand what the problem is though because on the MacBook charger it says that it's intake is 100-240V and all of the other outputs and inputs match the specifications for the charging device. A normal phone charger that you can plug into the wall worked in this charger, so is it the computer or the charger? And also if it is the computer, what voltage amount should I get? Thank you very much!

Your Macbook charger will specify the number of watts it uses (very fine print somewhere on the charger brick).  Your inverter MUST be able provide at least that much power, or I'm guessing your Macbook charger would have problems.

    Hey iWeb plubishing problems,
I would first check to make sure that you meet the system requirements for OS X to support Documents in the Cloud. For that your Mac’s needs to be running at least OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later to make sure that everything syncs. Take a look at the article below for more information.

which mac mini should i go for: the one with AMD graphic card or Intel. I meanly going to use this for hometheater and HD movies.

Intel HD 3000 graphics card can easily handle HD movies up to 1080p. But if you are looking at higher resolutions possibly 4k or 8k that are being released this summer in new TV's, I would go with the AMD card. The AMD card would be good for video and picture applications and also games. But if this is strictly to power your 1080p home theater setup then the choice is obviously the Intel HD 3000.

  • I bought a movie on iTunes and it plays half the movie and stops. I can not get it to play after it stops. What can I do to get it to play the rest of the movie?

I bought a movie on iTunes and it plays half the movie and stops. I can not get it to play after it stops. What can I do to get it to play the rest of the movie?

    Hi, Jjenjen30.
Thanks for the question and I believe we have a solution.  The best option would be to delete the movie that is giving you an issue and redownload it via the iTunes store past purchase option.  I have included a couple articles that will show you how to process these steps.
Deleting files from the iTunes library and your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3842
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If this does not resolve the issue, then iTunes might need to be notified to let them know there is a problem with the content.  I have included the steps on how to let them know.
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase

My Mac Mini is running on iOS 10.6.8 can it be loaded with 7.0 or higher?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
