What make macbook TRACKPAD click back uP?!

Hello, I just replaced the topcase to a macbook. The trackpad stopped clicking. I know about the torx screw that you can tighten/loosen to adjust the click. That isn't the problem. When I hold the topcase upside down. It clicks and then drops back down due to gravity. Theoretically everything as far as the "clicking" works. However, when I sit it down so that I would be typing...and I click. It just goes down and never "pops" back up. I do not think their is a spring that makes it pop up. Does anyone know what makes it resist gravity and make it go up again? I did this all with the battery out...so it's not a battery bulge either. I took it down to the barebones, JUST the top case. Is there a magnet that is supposed to make it click back up when you click down on the trackpad? Any ideas...please tell me. I spent hours trying to figure this out.  Thanks in advance.

I guess nobody knows, I figured it out. Underneath the screw there is a type of metal "bubble" think of a lid that "pops up" when you open up a bottle of pickles or whatever. This is what is underneath the trackpad that keeps it poping up and down.

  • Late 2009 Macbook Trackpad Clicks

    My trackpad is trying to quit. It doesn't respond to physical clicks. I had problems with battery swelling in the past, but I have since replaced it. Touch to click works, but I hate dragging with that setting. Any tricks?

    I forgot to add one more thing .
    Hold down OPTION and click the battery status on the top right of the task bar. What does it say?
    This is a very basic way of checking your battery status.
    If you go in to an Apple Store they can check your battery status for free. Even an Apple Authorised Service Provider.
    Ask them to run AST / MRI. (Apple Service Toolkit) / (Mac Resource Indicator). Check the battery as this will give you a more intermediate diagnosis of you battery.
    A full ASD (Apple Service Diagnosis) would be needed to fully assess your battery.
    How ever what has been said here is a simple way of potentially fixing your computer. With it being 5 years I expect that your battery has been consumed and it may be necessary to get it replaced. If you see any swelling, or the trackpad stops working. Shut down your computer immediately and go to the service centre.
    ESPECIALLY if you start to get any abnormal heat from the lower portion of the top-case (Where the keyboard is) or any weird smells / liquids.

  • What makes macbook so cheap?

    I find the price of macbook is suprisely low, since it can run on windows too, and im doubt on the quality of the macbook, So what actually makes it so cheap?

    It really is a god deal, the only thing that makes the base model extra affordable is the lack of a DVDRW and as a whole the entire line uses integrated graphics, which apparantly saved apple quite a bit of money and was able to offer the models at such a reasonable price.
    I haven't seen anything that matches the macbook in the pc world price wise. The closest thing is a Sony Vaio SZ series, which is extremely similar to the macbook (13.3 w/ core duo), it even has a camera built into the screen. What is different about the sony though is that it has a real GPU, weighs less, but a model similar to the 1.83 base model macbook costs 1589.99 and of course it only runs windows!

  • What makes the scrolled image back to the same place???

    Hi, guys:
    I have asked this question but I am gonna ask again since I am going crazy literally. I put a JComponent to the JScrollPane to show a BufferedImage. But whenever I scroll, the image will move nicely then as soon as I release the mouse button, the image will repaint itself to the original place. So the final result is no scrolling. The code is here:
         canvas = new ImageDisplay(this, mainFrame);
         scroll = new JScrollPane();
    scroll.setViewportView(canvas);
    The ImageDisplay is a class extends JComponent and has a paintComponent() method. Please help me out!!! Thanks a lot!!!

    scrollPane.setOpaque(true);

    scrollPane.getViewport().setBackground(Color.white);
    tree = new DragTree(treeModel);
    tree.addMouseListener(this);
    tree.addKeyListener(this);
    tree.setLargeModel(true);
    tree.addTreeSelectionListener(SelectionHolder.getInstance());
    scrollPane.getViewport().add(BorderLayout.CENTER, tree);

  • MacBook Pro and lapses in trackpad/click response

    Ever since I got my reconditioned MBP 15" direct from Apple, I've had the following trackpad/click problem: for seconds at a time (sometimes up to 10-15 seconds), the trackpad will not respond to taps or clicks; this occurs in all programs and sometime seems to be remedied by clicking in a different part of the screen and then going back to the desired spot to click (not sure, though, whether simply time passing is what makes function return).
    At the suggestion of tech support, I took this issue to a Genius. We booted via a different OS and the problem seemed to disappear, so we determined that it likely was not a hardware issue. He recommended an Archive and Install, which I performed but to no avail...still having the problem!
    Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

    just a thought, your genius probably already looked into it, but is the ignore accidental input checked. and also sometimes if I get a piece of dirt or something on my track pad it wont respond correctly
    don't know if that helps but something is better than nothing, good luck

  • 17" Macbook Pro Noise & Trackpad Click Sound

    Hi all,
    I just got a new 17" MBP delivered from Apple, its a fantastic computer. I've upgraded from a Titanium Powerbook.
    I notice when I move the new Macbook I hear a sound like a light saber from the left side, very low, its only apparent when the device is tilted, I assume its the HD, (I haven't installed the ssd in my signature yet, so still on the 7200 stock HD), is this normal, I never heard it from my Powerbook?
    Also the trackpad click noise and feel are not the same as the ones in my local apple supplier, I have a noticeable click sound pressing the trackpad, and some slight resistance before the click engages, but the store ones I tried have no resistance before the click engaging and there is no audiable click from the trackpad. Is this because mine is new? Will mine go "soft" like the store models I tried?

    Hi,
    Regarding the "click" sound: as was already mentioned, there should be some click and resistance in your trackpad, specifically as you move down the pad from top to bottom. If you're convinced that these are more audible and resistant than they should be, you may be right: when I first got a unibody MacBook in early 2007, I had to return it to the Mac Store immediately because of a similar problem, and they ended up replacing the entire chassis as a result. Unfortunately, the same problem ended up coming back again, and I obstinately decided to live with it instead of doing the right thing and having it fixed, so I dealt with a progressively loud trackpad for the next few years.
    My advice: if it doesn't feel right, make an appointment with your nearest Mac Store and have them look at it. It won't cost you anything, and the worst that can happen is that they tell you it's fine (which you can again verify while at the same store by trying other machines of the same make and model).

  • Macbook 1.1 trackpad/clicker disabled by beta 12 os 10.5.8

    simple--trackpad/clicker has gone wild. clicks when it shouldnt and does when it shouldnt. works fine with safari 5.0.6 i have deleted, highlighted, dragged, downloaded, and just plain screwed up to hell and back 50 times a day for untold weeks plus reset every preference over and over till im ready to never get near ff again. if someone at ff had just been a little clearer about the extent of the trackpad issues...

    Define "access the cloud". I can access my iCloud.com account on my 5 year old iMac at work running OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I can download and upload Word documents and Pages documents in the iWorks section of my iCloud.com account.
    What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
    Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
    This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.

  • When using cloud backup, what files does it make sense not to back up?

    I have signed up with Zipcloud for cloud back up of files (after both time capsule and seagate external drives failed on me).
    It's been a few days and I am very frustrated by what was not explained before I signed up, such as upload times, etc.
    I ask my question about what files it might make sense not to back up to the cloud, because at the rate of backing up 4-8 GB a day (which is what Ziplcoud says to expect)  it will take 3  months to back up all my data! Seems crazy.
    Also, although I have been told by Zipcloud that there software will not interfere with my computer's performance, my experience is to the contrary. Coincidence?  Wondering about the experience of others in terms of impact on computer's performance?
    I welcome general opiions and experiences with cloud backup as well as the answers to my specific questions.   I also am open to suggestions of reliable affordable back-up companies with support.
    Zipcloud's email based support could not be much more frustrating!  I send a question that doesn't really get addressed with my original question dropped from the reply so that I need to repeat my question—each answer coming from a different customer service person, no continuity within the same issue, no real resolution.
    Is cloud back up really worth it??  And back to my original question, for which files and for which files not to bother.
    Thanks,
    Ani
    PS.  Final question:  have people found data recovery problematic from cloud backup?
    I have a MAcbook Pro  OSX 10.8.5

    Methodologies to protect your valuable data. Backups vs. Archives. Long-term data protection approaches
    Cloud based storage should not be considered a data archive due to security concerns, and the transient ephemeral nature of cloud storage which can only be quasi-possessed.
    There is no such thing as "cloud storage"........   Cloud storage just means 1000s of HD in a building
    5.  *The above leads to another question, which is for how long to trust an external drive?
    Given the second law of thermodynamics, any and all current mfg. HD will, under perfect storage conditions tend themselves to depolarization and a point will be reached, even if the HD mechanism is perfect, that the ferromagnetic read/write surface of the platter inside the HD will entropy to the point of no return for data extraction.
    HD life varies, but barring mechanical failure, 3-8 years typically.
    Some advantages of a cloned hard drive:
    If you do an option key startup at boot you can directly boot to your cloned drive externally and operate from same like normal.
    Sandboxing: With the help of the Cloned Drive, you can perform sandboxing, or the testing of new software, their updates and applications before they are installed on your Mac system. Moreover, if there are issues with the system, you can troubleshoot them by booting off the Clone. Many people test new APPS or experiment with a secondary clone and never worry about a failure or serious issue since the internal HD is untouched and the secondary clone can be wiped afterwards if any major issue occurs in testing. This is an invaluable tool in many instances.
    If you sell you computer for purchase of a new one, you can take the clone you have on hand and install same or clone it to the new internal drive of your new Mac.
    As it turns out one of the huge positive benefits of a clone is that people were seeing faster HD speeds; with APPS booting up from the clone than they had seen with the internal HD. The cloning applications in cloning the drive defragments the data to the clone and remove the “holes” in the cloning process.
    With a small portable HD clone you can take your ‘computer’ anywhere to most any other current Mac and boot from your HD clone and have your entire system and its data immediately there for use. In case one is across the world and their macbook gets stolen, or damaged, with another Mac you can be up and 100% in the time it takes to boot to the new or borrowed Mac!
    You can clone from your external clone to the internal HD/SSD in case of corruption.
    The best thing that can be said, ideally, when your HD crashes with all its data is “so what, I’ve got a clone right here” and you can return to normal operation within seconds (by booting from the clone) or minutes (by swapping drives).
    In separating out your system hub (OS) and your data hub, and storing them separately, is if you make only periodic clones (every month or so), and have a HD crash, the worst case outcome is that what is lost on your clone are some bookmarks and preferences since your data hub containing your vital files is constantly archived separately as it should be.

  • My Macbooks trackpad dosent click on the home screen or anywhere else.

    My MacBooks trackpad dosent click anything on the home screen it can only move.
    I've rebooted it once but the same thing happens.Can anyone please please help!!!!!!!!

    This happened to me recently and it was because my battery was swollen.  I called Apple Care and it was out of warranty so they said I had to purchase a new battery, but if you plead your case and ask them to make an exception they just might!  They did for me!  They had told me they only replace for free if the battery is so swollen that it gets stuck in there, but they would have you take it to a Service Center to have it looked at.  I plead my case and they made an exception for me.  It never hurts to ask!

  • Trackpad clicks not registering in XP on Unibody MacBook

    I bought a MacBook 2.4 GHz yesterday, and have installed XP SP3 on it with the latest Boot Camp drivers, including the Trackpad Update (without which the trackpad was completely useless).
    In MacOS, the trackpad works well, with clicks being detected anywhere on the bottom half of the pad. But in XP, the only way to get a click to be detected reliably is to press the very centre of the trackpad. Clicking the bottom left corner (where your thumb naturally ends up) results in maybe 1 click in 5 being detected. This makes the trackpad pretty much useless under XP for dragging, as you are holding the centre of the pad and then run out of room to move your fingers.
    I haven't seen any other reports of this problem, but I have to say it is a deal-breaker for me - if the primary interface device is any less than perfect, a PC is unusable.
    Has anyone else seen a trackpad which is unresponsive to clicks in XP, but fine in MacOS? The fact that it works in MacOS suggests it's a driver issue rather than a problem with my hardware.

    Just a little more information: I reset PRAM yesterday to see how long it would take for the "lost click" problem to recur. The reset cleared up the problem, but the issue recurred within a couple of hours of very intermittent use (that is, a few minutes of use, sleep, wake, a few minutes of use, repeat).

  • HT201263 i'm 11 and my ipod4 is in recovery mode because It's disabled I went to itunes and it said ipod in recovery mode found you must restore so i clicked ok went to files devices but it wouldn't let me click back up whats going on?

    i'm 11 and my ipod4 is in recovery mode because It's disabled I went to itunes and it said ipod in recovery mode found you must restore so i clicked ok went to files devices but it wouldn't let me click back up whats going on?

    Because you can't backup a device that is in Recovery mode.
    You have to restore the iPod and restore from backup if you have a backup
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
    You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

    I have 2 Macbooks each with an account for me and one for my wife. I use one Macbook logged in with my account and my wife uses the other Macbook only logged in on her account. We both make regular time-machine back-ups each on a separate external disk. Is it possible to update her account on my macbook using her external disk without overwriting my stuff on the same Macbook and vice versa?

    Time Machine does not do individual accounts. It records the complete drive. So if you were to use her TM backup on your Mac it would make your Mac just like hers. Both yours and her account on your MAC.
    Just copy the missing files over from her Mac to yours. If there are differennt programs on each then they would need to be installed on both.

  • Question: What makes of projectors can be connected to MacBook

    Question: What makes of projectors can be connected to MacBook, also what kind of cable do I need?

    Hi,
    Modbus is restricted to addressing 247 devices on one data link, which limits the number of field devices that may be connected to a master station.
    However, if you want to increase the number of slaves, you may use MODBUS/TCP.
    Here is a link that might help you:
    http://modbus.control.com/thread/1026247380.
    The Schneider electric 174CEV30010 Modbus to Ethernet bridge is capable of addressing Modbus slaves from 1 to 247.
    The actual number of devices which can be physically connected depends on the medium used and not on the fact it is Modbus.
    Some examples:
    RS232 is a 2 device point to point connection when using copper, however when using fiber (or other modems) it is possible to connect up to the maximum of 247 devices.
    RS485 is multi-drop and supports 32 devices on a single network. When a repeater is used, on copper wire, the number of devices can usually be increased to 64.
    Hope this helps.
