What makes Business Objects so special?

Hello,
I am a student of Moscow State Institute of International Relations and I has chosen Business Objects as a theme of my Bachelor graduation work.
So I have several questions:
1. What does offer  Business Objects  that does not offer  for example not so special program as Excel from Microsoft?
2. I am also interested in such form of representation of the results as so called u201Cpilot cabinu201D system.
I will appreciate any information concerning these two topics and any examples of the reports which provide information in more visual way.
Thanks,
Nikolay

I'm newby in all of this, i mean SAP, i do some things in PI, but now i need to work with Business Objects, and i really don't have idea. I was looking for information about it but i didn't find something that explain what is business objects in technical way, like development, what do i need to develop?
What is the first thing that i need to install?
where can i find it (application, executable) to download?
Is a Web Server or Application Server, necessary?
I tried to find all the technical aspects (like BO theory) and the architecture for BO, but nothing clear yet. I only found funtional foundations, like the propose of the BO and the characteristics, but not how does it work!!.
    Could anybody help me please?
    Thanks,
    Vicman

    Hi,
Learning BO would be a very smooth, I can assure you a pleasant run; if you are a BI consultant, I advise you to first install BO Edge which is free on SAP site at "Free Trials"
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
and start with the below link to get hold of the user guides and start familiarising with first the universe and then the Desktop Intelligence/Web Intelligence.
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/
I am very sure if you pick the universe first and jump on desktop Intelligence, you will be able to learn it fairly fast.
    All the Best.

  • What SAP Business Objects Web Services to use with XI3.0

I'm new to BO and is tasked to install it.
What I've installed already is the BOE XI3.0 version and now want to install Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise.
What I can not figure out from the Xcelsius manual or SDN or OSS is what the Business Objects Web Services are the manual instructs you to install with Xcelsius.
    I did find something called
BusinessObjects Web Services XI for Windows and downloaded it but is not sure if this is what I need to install as the business Object Web Services on XI 3.0
Can someone please direct me in the correct direction
    Thanks in advance
    Liezel

    Hi,
i am not sure if i understand your question. If you mean Query as a Webservice (QaaWS), this component should be part of your XI 3.0 Enterprise installation. You could also use the flynet (www.flynet.co.uk) which is part of Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 SP1.
    Best Regards

    Objective:
When loan contract fees and repayment are posted from Treasury to GL, workflow should be activated to:
    a. Insert a payment block 'Z' in the document (Will need to create a user-table to define the criteria where payment block is to be inserted), AND

  • Business objects

    Hi,
I have no idea about business objects. What are business objects and as a functional consultant what I can do with business objects meaning can I give some additional things with very little efforts to my client or may be some convinience in use of SAP using business objects ?
WHat and where business objects can be useful ?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
<b>What are business objects and as a functional consultant what I can do with business objects?</b></b>
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/en/59/ae4484488f11d189490000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
<b>Business objects</b> are real world entities modeled as objects in an information system.
Business objects encapsulate both data structures and the functions applied to the data, but hide their full complexity from other objects. This encapsulation of data and functions makes it easier to modify program components, because you can program with the relevant entities without having to know all the implementation details. You can also reuse existing functions.
<b>WHat and where business objects can be useful ?</b>
Client programs access business objects by reading their attributes, or by calling the methods that make up the object’s interface:
    Attributes
Attributes describe the data stored in an object through a set of properties. They provide direct read access to the data structures of objects, but client programs cannot change them from outside.
    Methods
Methods provide a way to encapsulate the data structures of business objects, and to process them. When accessing an object, the client program calls a method with parameters and gets back return parameters.
    Interface
The interface is the set of methods associated with a business object, and determines how an object interacts with the outside world.
The client program defines the object types to be used and, at runtime, creates object instances of those object types.
SAP business objects are managed in R/3's Business Object Repository (BOR).

  • Business Object concept

What is Business Object?what is the concept of Object? What is the advantage of BO?why we are using
BO? How to Extract the data from BW to BO? give me the navigation steps?

    Hi Satyam,
Business Objects is an SAP Company, formally known as Business Objects.
BusinessObjects is a Product and has many different Product Categories
    EIM: Enterprise Information Management
These set of tools are used to manage, extract, transform and load your data.
Example: Data Federator, Data Quality, Data Integrator
    IDD: Information Discovery and Delivery
These set of tools are used to manage your content, users and for reporting
Example: BusinessObjects Enterprise, Infoview, Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, Desktop Intelligence, Crystal Xcelsius, Universe Designer, Business View Manager, etc.
    EPM:Enterprise Performance Management
These set of tools are used for Dashboard and Analytics.
Example: Performance Manager, PM Dashboards, PM Analytics, etc.
The advantages vary from tool to tool in the BusinessObjects Category. However, BusinessObjects supports mostly all the databases for reporting purposes via Semantic Layer or other methods.
The different tools of BO are used for Different Purposes as Stated above. For more specific use of BO, you can go through the documentation at help.sap.com
To extract data from BW (SAP BW) you can use the BusinessObjects Sematic Tool --> Universe Designer XI 3.1. You can get the PDFs for the same from help.sap.com. Once your universe is ready you can make reports with Web Intelligence Reporting tool. You can save this reports in different formats and also can schedule them at a specific time.
    Hope these helps.

  • Why Business Object???when BW is in Place

    Hi
i am quite confuse that what is Business Object and SAP BW , when sap already has BW then why there is need for BI-Business Object. How does it make diffrence.
    Regards
    Aryan

BO is very strong at the interface level and that is the part that will replace the current BW tools (WAD, BEX and Report Designer), in some cases the functionalities are much improved, Crystal Reports is a thousand times better than Report Designer, I'm quite convinced that even a Light version will bring in improvements.
The backend won't change though, so you keep your DSOs, Cubes and all other BW/BI specific tools for modeling.  BO has some datamart and ETL tools, but these will be separate offerings as much for SAP and non-SAP customers...
