What means "gc cr disk read" event?

Hi everybody,
I have a process that executes four times per day, and in a specific execution the process consome most time. The quantites of data to be process in each moment is same.
Last day, I enabled trace to comper and I get the event gc cr disk read very difente from other execution.
Some one can explain what means the gc cr disk read event?
I have looking on the net but i found no documentation about it?
Thanks

Having done a search for exactly "gc cr disk read" on Google I can confirm that the available information on that particular wait is hard to find - but we can guess that it's cluster related (gc = global cache), for a consistent read (cr) and involves a disk read.
Possibly it's an indication that one node has requested a CR block from another node and been told that the holding node has been told to write the CURRENT block to disk (fusion write) and the calling node will have to read the current block and sort our read consistency for itself.
This would tend to suggest that you have more than two nodes in your cluster, and you have some blocks which (on occasion) are rapidly updated from all three nodes at more or less the same time.

  • What is "gc cr disk read" event?

    hi,
Do you know what "gc cr disk read" event exactly means? I could not find any useful information on oracle documentation, metalink and web?
I suspect that it is related to parallel disk reads on RAC nodes. I mean for a query assume that all rac nodes do db file scattered/sequencial reads in parallel. If main node where sql run has finished db file scattered/sequencial reads but other node(s) has not finished yet, then "gc cr disk read" event occurs on main node.
However, i could not find any information to prove or disprove this assumption

    erkan

By the way there is an explanation here
Re: What means "gc cr disk read" event?
but Jonathan may not be right, because i see this event in my rac cluster which is a 2-node RAC cluster...

  • GC CR disk read

    Hi,
We are facing the gc cr disk read wait event especially when issuing the following sql statement.
    select b.tablespace_name||':'||nvl(round(sum(bytes)/1024/1024),0) from dba_free_space a,dba_tablespaces b where a.tablespace_name(+)=b.tablespace_name and b.status != 'READ ONLY' group by b.tablespace_name;
This wait event occurs only when the block requested by the 1st instance is on the other instance and it is dirty so the second instance has to create a duplicate block for read consistency purposes. and more interestingly this wait event occured on 1st instance and the backups were running on the second node.
Does this mean that the tables related to the view dba_tablespaces and dbA_free_space updated during the backups or we might be hitting a bug.
    Thanks,
    Vishnusivathej P

    Hi,
Failure of the Short Disk Self Test would indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
As your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • So, what exactly does "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour" mean?

Just got my APEBS-N on Saturday night at the local store and saw the option under Disks/File Sharning for "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour". Does anyone know what this means or what exactly the results will be? Does un-checking it mean that the disk won't be available over the LAN to the machines running the Airport Disk Utility? The same option appears under printers as well.
    MacBook 2.0 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK, well I guess I will have to call...Anyhow, here is the official verbiage from the Apple docs. Notice how it says contact your ISP or Network Administrator for login info? Why would your ISP give you this type of info?
Setting up your base station to use Bonjour
Bonjour, sometimes referred to as zero-configuration networking, is a networking technology that allows devices to automatically discover each other without any configuration, or network setup.
Some versions of the AirPort Extreme Base Station support using Bonjour to advertise services across the Internet. This requires a Dynamic DNS hostname and password you may have received from your Internet service provider (ISP) or network administrator.
Once you have your account information, open AirPort Utility, select your base station in the list, and then enter the base station password if necessary. Click Advanced in the toolbar, and then click Bonjour. Enter the information you received from your ISP or network administrator in the fields provided.
Check with your ISP or network administrator if you need more information about support for Bonjour.

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

  • "Disk read error occurred" cannot even load System Recovery

    Hello,
yesterday I powered on my computer, and it was almost froze, with only the mouse moving and even the task manager not showing up when called.
I first tried to make it go in standby, as I thought it was some program which didnt start as planned. After I closed the screen , the screen went black, but the pc continued to run. I then pressed the power button, shutting the system the hard way.
After that, I powered back the pc, which now only showed "Disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" and obviously this wasnt the solution. I tried resetting the BIOS, then running the diagnostics on f2: it ALWAYS passes the test the first time, then if i try to run the diagnostics again, it says "NOT INSTALLED". I tried running the system recovery on f11, but the same "disk read error" appears.
I-ve already confirmed the problem lies in the hard disk itself {hitachi 750gb}, having plugged it in another notebook with an hitachi hard disk and still showing the same problem, while the other hard disk booted just fine in my HP.
I tried with a win7 cd, both recovering and installing a new version, but they both kept frozen for about 1 hour and did nothing.
I then made a bootable USB with Trinity Recovery Kit and after a quick diagnostic, it said boot partition has "unclean" windows files and tried fixing the problem, without success. I-m now writing from a bootable USB linux distro, because i cannot find a bootable iso oh hitachi recovery program, what should I do?
Is it possible the hard disk failed so bad for an uncommon closure of the system? It looks to me like some data got corrupted.
Please help me, as I-m an academy student and I use the PC for almost everything.
    Thank you.

I-ve booted Boot Repair 64bit and tried repairing the boot section... i even checked the boot infos and printed an info file, can someone answer what the actual FOG is happening here?

However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should.
Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT
partition tables.  Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using an
msdos partition table.  Is this a GPT partition table?

  • What means the flash (thunder) logo ? wont startup on retina

so when in mountain lion i open startup disk and select windows HD as the startup disk and click restart in target disk mode. after the restart it only shows a grey screen with a flash logo, thunder or power logo i can upload an image if you dont know what i mean, and nothing happens. but when i restart and hold alt then i find wondows and its ok and when i select target disk mode under windws its also ok?
what means that thunder lightning flash power logo on the gray screen and no startup boot ?

You should not use Target Disk mode.  That mode is for turning your Mac into an external hard drive for transferring data to another Mac.  In the case of your Mac, you would have a firewire (or thunderbolt if newer) cable between two Macs and starting yours in Target Disk mode would turn it into something like an external hard drive for the other Mac.  The startup display you see is normal for that mode.  You can not boot or use the system normally in Target Disk mode.
Boot the system but don't choose Target Disk mode and you should be ok.

  • What does the recovery disk assistant store?

    hello everyone, my questions:
1.what does the recovery disk assistant store?
2.is it necessary to use the recovery disk assistant often or is it enough to use once.
    thanks
    Fatih.

As it said in the link I posted:
has same capabilities as the built-in Lion Recovery: reinstall Lion, repair the disk using Disk Utility, restore from a Time Machine backup, or browse the web with Safari. This drive can be used in the event you cannot start your computer with the built-in Recovery HD, or you have replaced the hard drive with a new one that does not have Mac OS X installed.
And here it is explained further:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
It stores some tools (Disk Utility) to repair your drive and lets you connect to the app store to re-download the OS or restore it from a Time Machine backup. That's it.
And it will re-install or restore your system (OS), it will not touch your files. However,
NOTE: before doing anything like that, it is wise to have a complete backup - things can happen.

  • bootdev : disk read error, sector 630

am getting this error when the HCA disk attempts to load the driver
    com.bef
    Loading Driver com.bef ...
<bootdev>: disk read error, sector 630
<bootdev>: disk read error, sector 630
<bootdev>: disk read error, sector 630
<bootdev>: disk read error, sector 630
The device driver, solaris/drivers/isa.025/com.bef, cannot be loaded.
The real mode driver is bad.
Does anyone know what this means??? Any insight would be helpful in
figuring out what is going wrong with my install attempt.
I downloaded the Solaris 8 (Intel Platform Edition) 7/01 and used dd.exe
on DOS to make the HCA diskette
    (http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/8/S8_0701.3)

Consequently, I have tried the install by making a bootable CD made with
EasyCD Creator from the .iso image for Solaris Software disk 1. This
works... so I am moving forward, but I would still like to know what the
error I got with the diskette is all about. Does anyone have an
    explanation of why that happened?

  • Satellite L770D-10J doesnt boot - Disk Read Error

    Hello,
My Laptop can't boot and it gives me the error Message:
An Disk read error as occured, press ctrl+ alt + del.
I did it a couple times and i tried to fix that problem because i have no Win7 DVD to boot from, i tried to reset the BIOS to its standart options, and now it wants a Passwort from me.
I didnt even enter one so i wont know it.
After 3 tries the System shuts down and i have to re-start my Computer.
Now i have an extern harddrive but i cant try to boot from it because my Laptop wants that Passwort.
To enter BIOS or Menue i also need this passwort.
I really need help, if you know anything please contact me with "TOSHIBA LAPTOP SUPPORT". My garantee ran out already.
Sorry for that bad english, its not my native language.
    Thank you for helping me.

I guess you are talking about the BIOS password.
This BIOS password can be deleted by authorized service provider available in your country.
I have no idea why an BIOS password appears if you did not set it in the past, but fact is that unknown password cannot be deleted by common notebook user. The BIOS password is an very important security feature and only authorized persons are able to delete it.
Here also the information from Toshiba:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ35002I000IR01.htm
    Regarding the disk read error:
Im not quite sure what disk do you mean exactly but in case the installed system cannot boot up, I think that HDD is faulty and needs to be replaced. After such replacement you would need to install the system again. The easiest way to install the system is the usage of Toshiba recovery disk because all Toshiba tools and drivers would be installed together with the Windows system.

  • Disk Read Error following HD Upgrade

I'm trying to upgrade the hard drive on my T60 laptop and am getting the message "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart." I'm grateful for any help anyone can give.
The old hard drive is a 60 GB Hitachi model HTS541060G9SA00. The new hard drive is a 500 GB Samsung model HN-M500MBB. I used Acronis True Image to create an image of the partitions on the old hard drive, following the procedure and guidelines I found here:
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1299861&postcount=9
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=203480
To reiterate a few aspects of the process: I had the *new* hard drive within the machine; I booted to the Acronis CD; I restored/resized the image stored on a USB hard drive to the new hard drive. When I boot to the new hard drive, I get the "disk read error" message.
    What I've tried:
    * I booted to UBCD. From this, I can open "My Computer" and see the partitions on the new hard drive, and I can see the files and folders within it. The C: partition is NTFS, 64428 MB with 43501 MB free; the D: partition is NTFS, 418765 MB with 393804 MB free. I assume this means that the hard drive itself is not faulty.
    * I tried changing one BIOS setting: the "Serial ATA (SATA)" setting on "[Compatibility]" and booting (got the disk read error) and then on "[ACHI]" and booting (again, the disk read error). This is beyond my knowledge base, but I read on a forum somewhere that toggling this setting helped someone with a somewhat similar problem.
Any suggestions? I'm grateful for any help you can give. Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I hadn't realized that the two forums were linked or frequented by the same community or I wouldn't have posted in both places. I was able to get to a solution, details here:

  • What type of hard disk should I use if I want to use it on mac and windows?

    Hey Forum,
I am using windows xp on my macbook (snow leopard). I came across some dealers who say that there are hard disks for mac only and for both mac and windows. So, I wanted to buy a hard disk so that I can use it both on mac and windows xp, so what type of hard disk should I use? Must I partition into 2?
or are there any harddisk in the market which is compatible for both mac and windows xp without screwing up the format(NTFS/Mac OS X Journaled)? Pls look into this matter and help me with it.
All of your replies and suggestions is much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Ala.

Run, don't walk, from that dealer! and never look back
Once in a very long while Apple will have customized firmware on drives, and it is possible to find SCSI/SAS or drives that are destined to be used with high end storage controllers.
But that is the exception that makes the rule.
SATA is SATA. Though.... there are now SATA III drives that don't work in XP, or that need a jumper, and Seagate and some drives have managed to deliver firmware that has caused trouble... and Apple has had to issue firmware updates to help compatibility....
