What means hardware test fault 4Mot/4/40000003:HDD-1255 ?
I´m searching for the reason of frequent freezing and finder freezing, freezing in Safari too, and got this result with extended Apple hardware test from CD.
Checking volume by Lion recovery tells: volume seems to be o.k.

Changing the 1TB Hitachi HDD (only 26 months old) resolved all my freezing problems. Now it works fine with a Mushkin SSD.

  • Hardware test alert 4MOT/4/40000003: HDD-1337, Its critical?

Does anybody knows what means the hardware test alert 4MOT/4/40000003: HDD-1337?,
I guess that its something wrong in my HD, but the question is What?
I ran a hardware test just to see if there was something in my imac, and report this alert, I don't know what it means, but i want to be prepared in case to be a possible critical failure or something like that.
The computer is working fine, and without problems,
    Imac 27" mid 2011, 16 bg ram, i5 2,7 Itb, yosemite 10.10.1 up-graded.
    Thanks in advance.

Motor error for the HDD or the cooling fan. It should be taken care of quickly.

  • What is Hardward Test Error "4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1330"

Recently, my daughter experienced massive Finder problems (continual spinning beachball with freezes, Force Quit unresponsive) on her iMac (Intel Dual Core 2008 Model). Eventually, she got nothing but a flashing question-mark on a restart.

Before reinstalling system software, I ran an Apple Hardware Test and it reported "No Problems". Disk Utility reported "Volume OK". Archive and install failed twice. I was able to retrieve and copy her home folder slaving the sick iMac to my operating G5 using Target Disk Mode. Following that, I did a complete erase and install of the OS.

However, AFTER reinstalling the OS, I ran Hardware Test again and it reported the following error "4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1330". I suspect this may mean that her 1GB ram chip is going bad, but I am not sure. Does anyone know what this error means?

Thanks, Kappy. I may try finding a deal on an external HD for her for the time being and get her to back up what she has regularly using SuperDuper, then try replacing the internal HD myself when it gives out. (Who knows—it might keep running for quite a while in this state—I'm keeping my fingers crossed.) I'm pretty good at following instructions and may try doing the replacement myself when the time comes. At least that will allow us to save the important stuff and give us more time to save the money for the new HD purchase. No one fixes Macs around here, and I'd rather try installing the new HD myself than sending it back to Apple.

  • Apple Hardware Test error 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1211

Did extended hardware test......got this error  4MOT/4/4oooooo3:HDD-1211

Apple does not publish their error codes, however the HDD indicates it's a hard disk related error. It could be the drive, a fan sensor, a HD fan, etc...  Before you do ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING backup and then take the machine in  for service immediately.

Hi guys, I got this error code when I did my apple hardware test. 4MOT/2/40000004:HDD-1379 does anyone have an idea of what this could mean? Please Help .

You can buy and install the hard drive you want to. However, on Late 2009 and newer iMacs the temperature sensor is in the hard drive, so if you replace it with a hard drive that has not got a temperature sensor you will have serious fan problems.
You have got an Early 2009 iMac, so do not worry about this. You can buy a hard drive at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/3.5-SerialATA/ Follow these steps > http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+24-Inch+EMC+2267+Hard+Drive+Replacement/9 028

  • Error: 4MOT/4/40000003-HDD-1355

Please help, I have the following message when running the Apple Hardware Test:
Error  4MOT/4/40000003-HDD-1355 on the quick test,
the extended test was identical except for the last 4 digits which were 1362.
Previous posts seem to indicate it is the fan that cools the hard drive, the last four digits indicating the fan's speed.
Could it be the hard drive or the logic board?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Mike:
First, thanks for helping me.  Second, I believe you are right and it is the hard drive.  I had a white screen the other day.  I shutdown using the power button.  Later, more white screens combined with restarts.  I downloaded Yosemite and that fixed the problem for about 48 hours.  Then white screens again.  At one point it was going from a white screen to restart over and over for about 7 minutes until it finally was able to get to the desktop.  Sounds like a hard drive towards the end of its useful life.  Will know for sure on Tuesday, and will post to let you know.  Hope it isn't too expensive a repair.  Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

  • My Mac is doing strange things: delaying between users, mouse flickering and bouncing, gets stuck with rainbow wheel flickering. I ran the appel hardware test and it detected an error: 4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1233 Does anybody know what that means? HELP!

My imac is doing strange things:
-delaying between users: when closing session it goes to blue, then takes a while to appear users signin box, and then wont recognize mouse command to enter until a couple of minutes later... then everything seems alright until....
-it gets stuck between things, the rainbow wheel appears and its just delays there forever....
-and every now and then the mouse starts flickering and bouncing wildly onscreen.
I ran the appel hardware test and it detected an error:
    4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1233
Does anybody know what that means? HELP!

WZZZ answered about where to get iStat. And do check the SMART status. If it is an overheating problem due to a fan or logic board problem, your hard drive is possibly cooking itself to death. If so it isn't a faulty hard drive even though the hard drive might fail. So assuming it's a temperature problem, even if you are able to repair things on the disk with software, that is working on symptoms, not causes. I could be wrong however.
RE: AppleCare: Your iMac came with one year of AppleCare (Apple's warranty program), but within the first year you can buy 2 more years. You have to extend by the one year anniversary of purchase of the computer. Your 10,1 is too old to still be in the first year, and since you asked what it was, I'm sure you don't have it. Bottom line meaning is that whatever this problem turns out to be, you'll have to pay for it. Unless there is something like this. It is for 2011 iMacs with certain Seagate drives. You can put in your serial number for fun, but it looks like yours is too old. Lastly, some people have had Apple help them anyway if it is just out of warranty, but many have not. Your machine is one of these. Type in 10,1 in the search box. Is there an Apple Store near you? Just b/c it's out of warranty doesn't mean you shouldn't have it looked at by Apple. But no one here can say at all what Apple will or will not do.
Hope you get it taken care of!

  • I run a hardware test and it gave me the error code 4mot/4/40000003:HDD-1500: does anyone know what it means?

    Hello,
I have a problem of my iMac freezing up regularly for no obvious reason.
So I ran a hardware test and it returns me only with the code  4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1500.
I need some help to know what that means and how to repair my iMac.
    William

William, unfortunately it means your hard disk drive has or is failing and needs to be replaced. Hopefully you have a current backup or clone. You can have the drive replaced at an Apple Store or AASP or do it yourself if you're inclined by following the guide fir your specific iMac at http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac_Desktop

I ran hardware test and error 4MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1322 came up. Anyone know what this is?

    Hi guys,
I have a similar problem, the numbers at the end of the error code change a bit, when i do the apple hardware test again ( I have an imac of early 2008, 2,66 GH). I have  2 GB Ram now, after one week ago one of the 2GB-Ram sticks "died") In fact, it was working quite much, then suddenly (i bought imac in june 2009) the ram stick was broken. The apple-support center told me its probably not a problem, but did not tell me what the error code means.  I have apple-care for 3 years, its a luck i did it, so they will take it and check carefully, but just after i insisted on the error. It seems they do not want to tell u what that could be....
Do u guys think the ram-stick was broken because the imac was too hot???

  • Hardware test Alert Code: "4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1229" on 2011 27'' i7 iMac. HELP

    Hello,
last week I found out that some files on my mac were missing so I desided to do an hardware test.
when the test finished I got the following alert:
    "4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1229"
    What does it mean?
    Thank you,
    Aviad

The hard disk fan sensor is damaged. Make a backup of your files and take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to have your hard disk replaced.
It's possible that Apple reinstalls the Mac OS X version you have onto the new hard disk, so you just have to make a Time Machine backup and restore it during the initial setup of your computer. Also, if Apple installs a blank hard drive, you can use Internet Recovery to restore your Time Machine backup > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

Buy a new drive and replace the old one. While the old one is still working (if it is) I would quickly make a bootable backup to an external drive if you have one, assuming you have no extant backup.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
You will find suitable replacement drives at OWC.
They may also have a video tutorial. Or you may find a written tutorial at ifixit.com. Also may find one by Googling for it.
