What mouse to buy for Win 7 on Parallels 8?

I'll be installing Windows 7 64-bit with parallels 8 on a MacBook Pro. I want to get a mouse to use mostly with the windows application. What kind of mouse should I buy? I just want whatever will be the easiest to install and use, meaning I'd like a mouse with both right and left buttons and maybe a scroll wheel thing. I don't care if it's a USB connected mouse or wireless. I just want whatever I can plug into my laptop and just have all the buttons work with windows with a minimum of fuss. Can I just buy a mouse that would ordinarily be connected to a PC and just use that? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You probably should be asking these questions in the Parallels forums.
But, my experience is that most if not all mice for Windows are plug and play. Unless the mouse has some special or unique features which then may require you to install the drivers that come with the mouse. But two button and scroll wheel are not special features and should work plug and play using the Windows built in drivers.

what camera to buy for taking close pictures of coins in mint state condition????uncirculated coins ??

The camera is not so much of an issue here as making sure that you get the right glass(lens) .
Both Nikon and Canon have specialty lenses to allow Macro (1:1 or lifesize or greater magnification) images to be made.
I would also recommend that you get a good tripod and focusing rails to mount your camera on as most macro photography is best done using manual focus and moving the camera.  This is due to the fact that macro lenses have a very shallow depth of field.
If you don't want to go to this extreme, then at least get a small sturdy tripod and always use a remote shutter release.
All of this is related to DSLR's.
If you want to go the PnS route, then look for one that emphasizes its macro capability and again, use a tripod.  Again, the lens is the most important item here.
Actually, no - lens is not the most important - coins are highly reflective and as a result VERY difficult to light properly - the lighting equipment is going to be the most important.
Lens will be second most important - you can probably do fine for coin photography with one of the common pseudo-macro lenses that only do 1:2 and not 1:1.  However a true 1:1 macro lens will give you the most flexibility.
Since the lighting equipment is the most important, the key here is going to be that the camera has support for an external flash.  This is guaranteed for an SLR but rare in P&S cameras.

I've read that Promise Pegasus2 R6 thunderbolt 2 series does not sell replacement parts (no replacement parts for any of the Pegasus line). I'm buying the new MacPro but am concerned about spending $2K for storage (12tb version) that may break and cannot be fixed (am told that one must purchase a new unit if a part breaks). What are others buying for storage for the new MacPro? Thanks so much for your help.
Discussion about this issue at MacWorld.com:  http://www.macworld.com/article/2082783/first-look-promises-pegasus2-r6-thunderb olt-2-raid-array.html

I've used the original Pegasus R6 units for a couple of years now and have been very pleased with them.  On the two occasions I've had to call on their technical sujpport, I've found them readily available, knowledgeable, and very helpful.  In one case it involved the reset of a unit after a power failure at an inopportune time; in the other case it was a question about upgrading disk drives to higher capacities (1 Gb gto 4 Gb).  I was pleased to learn that their tech support people were in California and as good if not better than upper-tier AppleCare reps. The hardware itself has functioned flawlessly so far.

You can only return the machine if you're within 14 days of purchase - otherwise you're just 'stuck' with what you purchased (unless you sell it, of course).
I always recommend that Retina owners order 16GB of RAM as the RAM is not upgradable - it's soldered onto the logic board.
Your call - if you're with 14 days of purchase, take it back and exchange for a 16GB model. Or sell it and buy a model with 16GB. The higher amount of memory will allow you to run far more memory-hungry apps concurrently.
    Good luck,

  • What best to buy for exporting machine

    Hello everyone,
My I suggested to buy new workforce to increase our export hours per week so we can deliver more material to our clients per week, and my boss gave me green light to buy 3 computers. I already have 3 machines (2 pc cori7 and cori5 and mac pro), I will only use the 3 machines to export no editing or other major tasks to be done on them, all editing process are done on my i7 & mac pro machines, what I wanna know is that for the machines that I will buy -which will be used only for exporting, what matters the most to get the fastest export, an i7 with a built in graphic card near to 1 GB or something or should I custome install a 3 GB graphic card for example?
We wanna buy asap, appreciate all fast responds (and of course late ones ), hope to meet our planned target to meet customer's demand.
    Regards

For Premiere information take a look at the PPBM6/7 results for export times for four different export times..  You will have to register to see the results page.  To see the four test results look at the output file, the first result is the disk I/O timeline export time, the second number is the export of the H.264 timeline, the third number is the GPU assisted export of the MPEG2-DVD timeline which is an AVCHD clip with lots of GPU assisted effects and features (like scaling down to SD) for DVD playback, and the fourth number is the export time of that same timeline with CPU processing only.. Looking at the Speccy file will give you the hardware configuration.

  • What mac to buy for several hour rendering per day?

Hello everyone, I'm new here, I work as the editing & prodcuting executive in a distribution and production compady. I work on 2 PCs using Adobe Premier Pro and eveything is going fine, but some clients are requiring rendered videos using Final Cut. So we decided to buy a mac computer and a FInal Cut x.
I never worked on mac and I dont know much about them, what's the best mac to buy? I visted the Mac store and found the folloing 6 options to buy from:
    iMac 21.5" quad-core i5 2.7GHz/8GB/1TB/Intel Iris Pro Graphics
    iMac 21.5" quad-core i5 2.9GHz/8GB/1TB/GeForce GT 750M 1GB
    iMac 27" quad-core i5 3.2GHz/8GB/1TB/GeForce GT 755M 1GB
    iMac 27" quad-core i5 3.4GHz/8GB/1TB/GeForce GTX 775M 2GB
    MacPro quad-Core and Dual GPU  E5 3.7/12GB/256/ Dual AMD D300 2GB each
MacPro 6-Core and Dual GPU  E5 3.5/16GB/256/ Dual AMD D5003GB each
What is the best option to buy? its obvious that the last Mac pro is the most powerful one, but for instant can I work on the 4th option just fine? cause financially it seems good, but can it handle like 50 hr of rendering per month for 3 years for example? and how much time saving would it be if I choose option 5 or six? and one last question, is ther's anyuthing that option 5 or six that they an do and option 4 can't do? (other than the speed of finishing rendering tasks)... thanks in advanced

    Some really good replies here!
To help the original poster, what you're trying to do is really commercial work as opposed to hobbiest usage. For commercial use it would be much to your advantage to go with a more robust machine that can handle the heat better and that is the Mac Pro. The cabinet is much larger, there is more room inside for heat dissipation, fans for the logic board and fans for the graphics card(s), heat sinks, etc.
Weigh the incremental cost of the Mac Pro against the cost of what would happen if you were in the middle of a project, spent hours working on it, and the system failed causing the data to be lost. Most likely there would be a lot of other video files that hadn't been archived yet and who knows what would happen to them.
That doesn't mean to say that nothing would ever happen to the Mac Pro but the odds are it would be less. Another fringe benefit of going with a Mac Pro is it has more upgrade and "future-proof" capability.
Speaking of robustness. A Time Capsule could be a useful addition and, for your use, and better yet, a RAID system (Mac friendly for minimum maintenance) is almost a requirement down the road. And with your anticipated usage, that would be a short road!
Another comment I'd like to add in is that FCPX likes lots of memory on the graphics card. 1GB is workable but 3GB would be super and the rendering time would be reduced immensely.

  • Re: DDR2dimm or DDR2sodimm- what one to buy for Equium series

Hello, I was looking at some sites and am confused on what memory I need to buy, I have found out that I need DDR2 RAM but there seems to be two types- dimm and sodimm- so what ones should I get, any advice? Thanks for any help

    Hi Omair
You can use and buy the modules from different manufacturers but you have to ensure that you would use the 100% compatible and supported memory modules.
Of course its advisable to buy the modules recommended by Toshiba because in such case you can be 100% sure that these modules would be supported and the notebook would run troublefree.
Your notebook series is not known to me but I think you should find the compatible modules on the Toshibas Options & Accessories website:

T400s, X200 and X200s are mainly built for road warriors where they don't want to carry extra weight and yet still have a powerful enough laptop for their light photoshop work, document processing, HD movies, powerpoint and publisher, etc.
For outdoors you should look to the new 'Special series of X200t (t for tablet)' which has this new screen that is specifically designed for people whom use their laptop in the outdoor environment providing maximum brightness and minimal reflectivity.
    http://www.thinkpads.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/lenovo_thinkpad_x200_tablet_outdoor-viewable-scr...
For movies and streaming hd movies, any of these laptop would be sufficient, as T8xxx, T9xxx Penryn processors are have SSE 4 included that have special algorithm that increases processor efficiency for HD movie decoding. Also Intel X4500 MHD integrated graphics card are specifically designed for blu ray and hd movie decoding without using CPU resources.
If you do light photoshop work, then any of these laptops are fine. 9 cells in a T400s or X200 or X200s should get you upwards of 5 hours use on a single charge.
The T400s have built in displayport out, which is missing in the T400, while the X200 and X200s can use this port only through the ultrabase dock.
The one thing that T400 can be optioned with is the dual gpu if you get the ATI graphics card, which includes the X4500 and ATI 3470 which one use depends on whether you are after graphic processing power or battery life.

  • What cable to buy for ipad 4 to connect to TV?

    hi all ,
i have ipad 4 retina display ,now i have a composite av cable which i used for me old ipad 1 to connect to the tv to watch movies etc,now that Apple have changed the adaptor connections this cable is no longer useful ,so now i would like to know which cable to buy now for my ipad 4 to connect to my tv.
    thanks

If your TV has an HDMI input, then the onyl choice would be the
    Lightning Digital AV Adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter
As I don't believe theren is a lightning to composite adapter at this time.
You may also need to buy an HDMI cable to go with it if you don't have a spare lying around.

Simply which ipod do i buy so i can use on os 10.2.8?
i have searched on here and seem's new one's don't work.
    Ta,

Purchase an iPod other than an iPod nano, Fifth Generation iPod, or second generation iPod shuffle. You should use FireWire for synchronization on your configuration, unless you choose the original iPod shuffle or another iPod which has no FireWire connectivity; all of the other iPods which require USB for synchronization also require Mac OS X 10.3 or newer.

  • Does anyone know what I should buy for Times-Roman, Times-Italic, Times-Bold etc.?

I only see Times New Roman. The error message in Adobe Distiller is 'can't find Times-Roman (or Times-Italic or Times-Bold).

Just play with each and figure out which one you want. I believe they only allow 1 exchange unless it is a defect issue. You can always return the exchanged item and rebuy what you want if they will not allow you to do multiple exchanges.
But again, you need to really figure out which one you want.

  • My kid likes to play video games that require a right click.  What mouse would you recommend?

What mouse is best for video gaming?  My son likes to play shootemup games where he has to rearrange troops and shoot aliens.  The games, while ok for a mac, are best with a right click as well as left click.  All I have on the MacBook Pro is a trackpad.  He could get a mouse, but which one?

  • How do i hook a wired router to a wired router and what should I buy?

I want to maintain a PC on a wired network near my cable modem and add a wireless accees point or router remotely to cover an area outdoors.
Application isn't fancy, just plain vanilla internet access. Ease of setup, reasonable cost, reliable connections and security are the goals.
What should I buy for each component and how do I set the network up?
    Thank you!

Instead of an Access Point you could also go for a strong N- draft router(like WRT310N, WRT320N. WRT350N, WRT400N) as you want to place a wireless device about 100' away to cover outside(all the above router's should give you more than 100' feet of range)...Also you will get additional 4 ethernet ports to connect 4 devices hardwired to the router...
You should connect your existing router from Ethernet port 1 to the new router on it's Internet Port...Access the new router's  web interface and change it's LAN IP Address to 10.10.10.1 and Power cyle the new router, it should be configured...
