What movie file types will front row recognise?

will it play any windows media or asf files?

Besides playing DVD movies, Front Row does not really "play" anything. It will open iTunes in the background and play your music. It will open iPhoto in the background and play your pictures. If you choose the "Movies" section, it will open the QuickTime Player in the background and play your movies. So, as long as you can open and play your movies manually with the QuickTime Player, you can access them in Front Row.

  • HT1363 what movie file types will work on a iPod classic 80GB?

I am trying to download movies onto my ipod, they are in the library but I get an error saying wrong file type.  Do they have to have an extention and if so, what is the acceptable flie?
    Thanks

Are these downloads from the iTunes Store? If so, it sounds like you are trying to sync the HD version of the video.  You should try to download the Standard Definition copy instead and sync that to your device as HD content is not compatible with the Nano.  See here for more information:
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
To prevent HD versions from being downloaded in the future head to the iTunes Store, click the Purchased link, and then select Movies/TV Shows and remove the tick mark next to Download HD when available.  You should be able to download the SD version now from under this same page.

  • Masking different file types in Front Row

    Hello,
I am in the process of setting up my new iMac and and trying to get Front Row to work for with my photos (.JPG files) and videos (.AVI files). I tend to store all of the photos and videos that relate to a particular event in one folder (e.g. 12_2009 - Xmas would contain photos and videos from Xmas). I have imported all of these folders into iPhoto and that works fine. I have also created an alias to this folder and placed this in my Movies folder so that the videos show up in the Movies menu of Front Row. This is also working.
The problem I have is I think related to the fact that the photos and videos are stored in the same folders. What happens in Front Row is this:
    - In the Photos menu it displays the photos OK but displays a blank screen for the videos (presuambly trying and failing to play the video?).
    - In the Movies menu it displays the videos OK but also displays the photos very briefly (presumably treating them as very short movies?!)
I would like to set up Front Row to only show photos in the Photos menu and only show videos in the Movies menu.
Is there a way to do this (e.g. to tell Front Row to only play .AVI files in the Movies menu and only list .JPG files in the Photos menu).
    thanks,
    Mike

You can get around the problem with the pictures by making smart albums in iPhoto and telling to not include anything that has avi in the filename.
Since Front Row doesn't currently like video files in playlists, the only real suggestion I can make for that is to drag copies of the videos (can just drag copy them right out of iPhoto into a Finder window) into the ~/Movies folder or a subfolder inside here. That will allow you to browse them alphabetically by selecting the Movies folder from within the Front Row interface.

  • With Premiere elements 11, when Publish/Share (saving) a finished video, selecting H.264  .mov file type, what are the recommended Codec and Aspect settings for a crisp video and a small file size?

With Premiere Elements 11, when Publish/Share (saving) a finished video, selecting H.264  .mov file type, what are the recommended Aspect and Codec settings , for a crisp video with a small file size?

We will customize a very detailed reply, but
    (a) What are the properties of your source media?
    (b) What did you or the program set as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
    (c) What specific requirements do you have for this H.264.mov export file?
File size can be a compromise between bitrate, file size, and quality.
    Thanks.

  • Movie trailers in the front row / video

I am wondering if there is anyway to get rid of those movie trailers in the front row/video? They must be taking up hundreds of mb of space? Fun to watch but gees...I would rather have the space on my hard drive (I am stingy that way):)

Jeffrey is correct, Front Row plays the movie trailers from Apple's Web site. They're not kept on your hard drive. That's how they change every week. While a small "cache" might remain behind after playing one, it should be cleaned-off the next time you log off or restart.

  • Will Front Row play VOB files?

    Good afternoon.
I have several movies in DVD format and am wondering if front row will play these? If not, does anyone know if Media Central will play them?
    Thanks.

Front Row will only play what Quicktime can play, so it will not play DVDs stored locally.
According to here, Media Central will play DVDs stored on your HD.
VLC will also play VOB files.

  • Which movies will front row play.

My itunes library is on an external disc, however some large movies are put into my itunes libraries as QT reference files to movies held on another external HD. This all works very well in itunes, although sometimes there is a slight delay while itunes searches for the files or the other external HD wakes up.
Front row won't play these reference files, or it won't for me and seems to cause some issues when I try.
Is this something I should expect or can I fix it.
If this is to be expected, is it because the files are on another external HD (although all my itunes files are on an ext HD anyway) or is it because the files they are referenced to are not mp4's (think they are .dv or .mov)

They simply don't play and when I press menu or escape I get a message saying that itunes has quit or had problems. I rather suspect any problems I'm having are down to sharing with front row 1.2.2. it seems I get differing results every-time I try to share some video. Actually 1.2.2 seems very dodgy at sharing.
The .mov and .dv are on a desktop G5 (no front row) so I am unable to test them directly without sharing or copying to anther mac. But I have never had one play yet with sharing. I have had mp4's not play sometimes and then play the next time I try, so I'm tending to believe it's a sharing issue, especially when I play the mp4's from the same mac (no sharing) they work every-time.
I suppose the next thing to do is to copy one of the .mov's to a mac with front row, but they're all so big, anyhow I'll give it a go.

  • Quicktime, Movie File Types & CandyBar

    I have just three questions:
    1) With the new upgrade to OS X Mavericks, it seems as though Quicktime is extra picky about converting certain file types when I open them, particulary avi's......which used to open with no problem in earlier versions of OS X. Is this a quirk that I'm going to have to deal with for now, or is there a codec I can install to rectify this?
    2) When listing different file types in Finder in OS X Mavericks, Windows Media Files (.wmv) are being listed as documents, and not movies (see below) This wasn't the case in OS X Mountain Lion. Is this another quirk or is there something I can do to have the .wmv files listed correctly?
    3) Any word on when CandyBar will be updated for OS X Mavericks? If not, is there another way to change the look of the default folder icon? I already know how to change the icons for specific folders, but CandyBar helped me change the look of the default folder icon, thereby changing the look of ALL folders on my Mac.

Quicktime files can be MPEG-4 video, and should be
    transferable to your iPod.
If you get info on the video file in question what
    does it say?
when i click get info it says the kind/type is a quicktime movie file.....i was jus mainly wondering why some podcast videos have quicktime video file, while others have the mpeg-4 video file...its almost like and OCD (obssesive complusive disorder) thng for me.....but as long as they can still transfer to the ipod i should be fine....

  • Scrolling titles and speed up Movie folder access in Front Row?

I have two questions regarding Front Row and have been unable to find an answer for them yet.
    1. A number of my movies/TV shows have very long but similar titles. When I select one, is there a way for the title to scroll and show the whole title much like a long song title scrolls across the screen of my iPod?
    2. Accessing my "Movies" folder takes a long time. Is there some way to speed this up, possibly a cache folder that may have its permissions messed up?
    Cheers.

    YES GET THE UPDATES!
i had the same problem and it happened after i updated my itunes to 7.6 (to support video rentals). what you have to do is make sure you have ALL the latest updates - including front row and OS X updates. as soon as i did that - everything was back to working order. you can update by clicking your system preferences and choosing updates. it will automatically inform you of any outdated software you may have.
    hope this helps.
    cheers.

  • IPhone movie file types

What file types are playable by iPhone? I've tried MP4, AVI and MOV and none are able to be copied over.

With the new QuickTime, you can Export to iPhone! There are expert settings you can use that will make it look a little better, but this is fast and easy, and it works. The files are pretty small too.

  • When will Front Row be updated???

No way to select a 5.1 audio track? No way to rent or buy content without exiting to iTunes?
I can buy a HD movie with a 5.1 track through iTunes, but can't play it through Apple's main media software? Not cool...

Couldn't figure out what is the version of my system and what is the latest one. I'd made an upgrade to 2.1.7 using pacifist trying to fix a bug (I'll post my own topic). As I read, it should be in System Preferences (where is it).
This is kind soft that should be updated frequently because there is allways something new about multimedia. My FronRow doesn't play mkv files (it's now very popular) and some other formats doesn't play audio.
You pick an small app made by students in sourceforge and it plays more media with more resurces... but I still like Front Row a lot, hope Apple give us some credit.

There is an epidemic of display issues targeting specifically Premiere Elements 10 users whose computer use a NVIDIA video card. For now, the answer is to roll back the video card driver version rather than to assure that you have the latest video card driver installed on your computer. Please check out the following thread in this regard and determine if any this applies to your situation.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5836037
Once we rule this factor out, we can move on to other troubleshooting schemes.
What John T. Smith has asked is do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with your Premiere Elements 10. If you do, the latest version is 7.7.4. You should be able to find confirming information on that in Help Menu/About QuickTime in the opened QuickTime. That is not a codec number. It is the version number (latest version) for the QuickTime program on which Premiere Elements is very dependent.
As for codec, in this case, the question being asked is what is the video compression in your file that has the .mov file extension. If you do not know and do not have access to a video properties reader (such as MediaInfo), perhaps we could get the needed information from the brand/model/settings information for the camera that was used to record the video.
Please review. We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • Which file types will iPhoto11/iMovie11 import into their libraries?  Which are not imported?

I am moving files from my PC to my Macbook 13' and then importing them into iPhoto11/iMovie11.  Are there file types that will not be imported and therefore should not be removed from their original location after the import?

Sure. iPhoto will import Jpegs and many Raw files. Tiffs, png and many other formats as well
Video: Iphoto will import movs and avis. It won't import AVCHD but iMovie will.
Problem is that that information is useless to you. Why? Because video file are all containers. Not all avis are the same, it all depends on the codec used to create them.

  • What movie file formats can be imported into iMovie?

Can you directly import .avi, mpeg or .mov files? What about a Quicktime movie file? Just trying to figure out which file format iMovie will accept. I have a movie that was edited on Adobe Premiere and want to make sure I export the movie in the correct format.
    Thanks.

keep in mind: avi nor mov are 'formats', just media wrappers = box of chocolate, you'lll never know ...
stay within normal video standards, such as 1080i or 720p, 25/29.97fps ... mov encoded with h264 should be fine.
and avoid fancy stuff such as surround, Dolby 5.1., 3D ........
