What mp3 player would you recomme

It seems like my Zen is about to die, so I'm wondering what some of you might suggest as a replacement. I really don't want an iPod 'cause I'm in NY and everyone and their dog has one. The specs I'm looking for, in order of importance, are:
. Stability
2. Storage (>=20 GB)
3. Physical size
4. Ease to use
5. Design
I would love to hear your recommendations. Thanks!

I'm leaning towards the Zen Micro. But my last mp3 player was a Zen Jukebox, and it was pretty good, but it crashed (the player just froze on the EAX screen). I'm wondering if this is what all mp3 players do eventually, or if there is something unstable about Creative players, or something. I didn't drop it or anything. In some ways I'd feel better if I did drop it, 'cause at least I'd know why it broke.

Thank you for your quick response. I can then use a ZIP drive for data storage. I want to keep as much of my hard drive free of data as possible.

  • What sequence setting would you use to edit 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in FCP. Experiencing Quality and rendering issues.

What sequence setting would you use to edit both 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in a single timeline in FCP. I'm experiencing quality and rendering issues.  I've tried numerous settings but can't seem to figure this one out.  Thanks for your assistance.

Although you can combine the avchd 1920x1080 material with prores 1920x1080 in the same timeline, you might land up saving time just converting everything to 1920x1080 prores 422.   You'd probably reduce the amount of rendering while you're working and exporting when you're done by a great deal.  This workflow will require much more drive space.

  • What would you recomme

Hi! I would like to purchase a MP3 Player that has the option of using an AC adapter. I listen to music a lot and I like the idea of connecting my MP3 player to my home stereo. I have tried cd's but I'm tired of messing with them. I currently own a Creative Muvo TX FM which I have been playing it through my home stereo. But, the way I listen to it, it will eat batteries fast and to my knowledge, there isn't an ac adapter available for this model. So, I thought about purchasing a MP3 Player just to use with my home stereo. That is, if I can find one that has an ac adapter. Do any of you have any suggestions on what is a good one for this? Thanks!

Most of the larger (than MuVos) can use a charger. How much capacity do you need, or what is your budget? People can give you recommendations on which players you could check out then.
For instance, check out the new ZEN, it can charge over USB or you can get a seperate charger (accessory).

  • What Anti-Virus Software for E72 would you recomme...

Hi, what would you recommend for an anti-virus software for E72? Thanks.

    Hello,
Various anti-malware vendors are still going through the Windows 8 certification process for their software with Microsoft, however, many of them already have products that work under Windows 8.  Two testing organizations, AV-Comparatives and AV-Test, have been keeping track of which products work under Windows 8, and the results can be found on their respective web sites:
AV-Comparatives:  Windows 8 Approved Security Products
AV-Test: Security Products for Windows 8 (Home User)
I would recommend checking each list frequently, as they seem to be getting updated on a daily basis.

  • Web page video - what file type would you recommend?

I've stood up a web page for selling things (house, musical instrument, chipper-shredder, rent an apartment, etc.) and would like to have a few videos included. The plan is to save the video on the server and not use hyperlinks to places like vimeo and youtube. For one thing, vimeo doesn't allow a basic member to use their site for selling things.
    A. Screen view size: I would like something, say, 2.5 to 3 inches high X whatever width the proportion would be (4:5 or 16:9), minimum.
    B. Resolution: Most of what I've recorded is in 1440CBR but reducing the quality to keep the file size small is VERY important. I'm not looking for Full Hi-Def, just something that gets the message across.
    C. It is very desirable for the visitor to be able to start viewing the video as soon after clicking on the hyperlink as possible. If they have to wait for a few MegaBytes to be downloaded they probably won't stick around. Also, there will be no advertising on my web page which should be nice.
    D. The file format should be viewable by both Macs and PCs. Questions:
    1. Is *.mp4 H.264 the most universal format?
    2. Should I "Share" to a QuickTime format and assume the PC users will have QuickTime on their machine?
    3. FCPx uses the "Share" menu in order to Export. What would you recommend for a Share setting (file type) so it will do what I would like to do?
Is there anything I left out that would be good to know???
Editorial comment: This has been a total struggle.
    My resources:
FCPX 10.0.3 (have not updated yet. Waiting until the dust settles)
MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 5,1 2.53 8GB memory Lion
    MacPro 1,1 Lion
Passport drive: 1TB for video storage
MacBook White 1,1 (for email and Internet surfing) 10.6.8

    Hi again,
I'm happy with the Audioengine 5 which I have on the computer desk about 2' ~ 3'
away so I'd call them 'near field'. You should have a shelf on your desk so the speakers are roughly at your head height.  I'm also using a 12" Velodyne powered sub in this set-up which sits on the floor to my right.

  • What new setup would you get for editing video in iMovie?

Hey gang. I'm upgrading all the electronics in my home and would love some buying and configuring advice. This question could go in the desktop discussion group as well, but the main thing that will tax the next system is family video editing and (temporary) storage. What desktop would you get? iMac or maybe Mac Mini? What camcorder? Canon Vixia ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/838768-REG/Canon_M50_HF_M50.html )? I want movies to load quickly and easily, so was thinking of one with SD card media.  Time Capsule? (One advisor said to go with another router). And if you were going to get a new TV, what would you get? Flat panel or projector? Yeah, I know: my credit card is gonna be lovin' me.  Been saving up, though, and just built all new furniture for my home office, so I can't wait to load it up with nice new gear. Thanks for any advice!

Sorry to correct that Karsten - you are always right normally
    From the Apple Store ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD033LL/A/time-capsule-3tb?fnode=4d )
    Easy wireless networking.
Connect your DSL or cable modem to Time Capsule, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is available as download for both Mac OS X and Windows. In minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos and more — without wires.3
I think that earlier versions fit your description, but the latest does have wireless networking. It works like the Airport Extreme base station.

  • What 3g model would you buy?

I will be one of the many standing in line Mar 11 for the new ipad2 (2 of them actually) my question is to go with att or verizon 3g model? I live in the seattle area and we have good att 3g coverage here... but I do enjoy going camping in and around the Mountains, lakes, rivers, ocean, sound. and would enjoy doing some facebooking while in the great outdoors.. (pathetic I know ) is Verizon's data coverage better? worse? slower than att? I know they have more coverage but am worried about speed. in those everyday places i guess... what would you buy?

I'd assume Verizon's iPad 3g coverage will be much like their iphone coverage (no talking while web surfing). I'd have to wonder what this will do with multitasking on the verizon version of the iPad 2. No specific examples to give........just a bit to consider.

  • Which 256 flash player would you buy-Muvo tx fm or muvo sl

Except for their appearance these players seem so similar. I already own a zen xtra but want a light flash player for outside activities to carry with me.some user opinions would be greatly appreciated thanks matt

Jk why would you go with a triple a battery player? Is it because you can just take battery out when not using it. I was having second thoughts about the slim battery and wondered if it had same peculiarity as my zen xtra battery that i need to keep charged or it might nor recharge after a period of idle time. I only need a 256 since taking a few cds of music with me is all that i need this flash player for. I might not use it every day. Im thinking of permanently putting my zen xtra in a play dock that I heard this weekend and loved the sound from it.My flash player would be just for on the go activities and i would change the contents as needed..

  • What can cause "Would you like to update the saved password?" When there is no password saved?

Lately, I am seeing this prompt for "Would you like to update the saved password?" when I log into password protected sites, where there is actually no saved password. Like the Bank of America site, I don't want the browser to save the password. What would cause this? I can just envision me clicking YES to update the saved password, then I have just somehow sent my password to hackers. Is this a known issue, or am i looking at a possible security breach here?

Firefox shows this notification if you use the Password Manager to fill the name and password and you change/modify the password that was previously saved. This can also happen if there is a script running that modifies the password field.
You may disable the remember password incase it's needed by doing the foll:
Tools-> Options -> Security -> Uncheck remember passwords for site.

  • What bluetooth headset would you recommend ?

    Hi,
I currently own a Jabra BT8040 but want to change it with one of the following Nokia headset:
    BH-902
    BH-602
    BH-703
    BH-803
However I don't really know which one to choose. For the last hours I've been reading a number of reviews on the web as well as some discussion on this Nokia forum.
It is my understanding that the BH-703 is the newest one in the above list.
Although I spend a lot of time on the phone, 8 hours of talk time is more than acceptable for me.
However I need a good sound because sometimes I'm calling from my car, and most of the time I have business calls in the office, where I have other colleagues also on the phone (open office), hence I do not want to be to much limited with a volume limitation on the headset.
I like the BH-902 because we don't need to take the phone to look at who is calling us, this is really great, however I don't know how confortable it is for confcalls running 1 hour.
The BH-602 has the highest autonomy however it seems to be the oldest one. I I don't need 11 hours of talk time.
From your experience, which one would you recommend for business usage ?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi,
I think my pick would the Nokia BH-902 headset. It has a nice set of features including - close-fitting control with the in-the-ear plug and optional ear hook - as stated on the product page.
But still the decision to be made is yours.
    Hope this helps

  • What case/cover would you recommend?

    Hi,
I've been looking into iphone case covers like the ones advertised in iskin.com and case-mate.com . Those two are advertised in the Macworld magazine. These are the slip covers that the iphone "wears" around its sides for added protection etc.
Does anyone have any hands-on experience with any of these already? Or would you recommend another, completely different brand?
I have an 8gb Iphone if that makes any difference.
Many Thanks for any suggestions,...Frank B.

I ordered the iskin revo case last week when it first went on sale. It just arrived today and I am very impressed. This is the 4th case I tried and I think the revo is nearly perfect. The silicon is of very high quality and adds some much needed grip to the iphone as well as some more shock and impact protection. I don't know about the plastic screen shield it comes with, it is supposed to stay on and then you take it off and it clings to the back while you are using the iphone, I probably won't use it. Another thing I really like is that it covers all the ports, some people mentioned it looked like it covers the headphone port totally. Well this is true, but the piece over it peals right back giving you instant access and it is still covered when not in use in your pocket, I was starting to notice a lot of dust build up in there but now it is covered so that is nice. It also comes with a dock cover that isn't attached but I will probably use also.
If you want a nice case I say this is the best, I got another silicone case that was cheap feeling and didn't fit very tightly. The revo fits tight and feels great, and it won't be covered in dust, it also still allows the light and proxy sensors to work while in the case. Only draw back is that if you want to use the dock you have to remove the case, but I don't see that as much of a negative. It is worth the price.

  • What application(s) would you suggest?

    Hi!
I am totally new to dynamic web pages. I see that many applications exist but I am unable to find which one could help me achieve what I want for my web site.
Here is my situation. I have a list of local farmers and food producers and I want my web site visitors to be able to search that database with the options that suit them the most, regarding their needs. My list is in Excel and I am able to sort the data in many useful ways using Pivot tables. I would like to find a way to get the same kind of sorting in my web page.
My web site is promoting local farmers and food producers. I would like my visitors to be able to search my database in two ways. First, choose "including" criteria by clicking a check box (only organic products AND only products avalaible directly at the farm, for example). Then, sort the results by product category, or by producer, or by city...
Any idea how I could do that? What application I could use? If you give me a hint, I could then search the Web to learn how to do
    Thanks!

You would be looking at using a database, something like mySQL and a server side scripting like PHP.
As far as I know, there really isn't anything out there that would allow you to do this type of thing in a dialogue window driven "click here for x setting" type of interface like DW's Design View. You're pretty much limited to hand coding.
Both of those technologies are very worthwhile to learn though and what you want to do isn't terribly complicated for them.

  • KDEmod=unstable? + What WM/DE would you reccomend for me

Hi guys. I don't want to start a flame war, please.
I am using Arch with KDEmod and I have the impression that this combination is a lot less stable than my previous Ubuntu+Gnome+Compiz (mind you, I am NOT running compiz on Arch anymore). I don't know if this is attributable to KDE or to KDEmod or to Arch - I am currently installing Gnome on Arch in order to check that.
Anyways. Annoyed by the quirks of KDE (like random Konqueror crashes, improper handling of removable media, showing pop-ups like kdesu in the background etc.) I think it's high time I tried some lightweight WM. I've only used Gnome and Fluxbox for a long enough time to have an opinion on them - I am waiting for your opinions.
    What I am looking for:
    1) Simplicity - I'm fed of Gnome/KDE running a bazillion services I've never asked for and then randomly crashing them
    2) Beauty - what kept me from trying lightweight options so far was that they all seem to look plain ugly (judging from screenshots). I never managed to get my Fluxbox to look the way I wanted. Do you know any WMs with really good themes?
    3) Stability - compiz is not an option: no more crashes please!
    4) An elegant way to manage my open windows - I love the Expose effect but I am not sure if I can get it to work without compositing (actually I'm using the old and unmaintained Kompose to avoid compiz and still have that in my KDEmod). I also love docks (FYI: yes, I am a former Mac user ). I like avant-window-navigator, e.g., but it doesn't run without compositing (and the Arch package is a mess anyway - when I find the time to examine it I'll contact the maintainer).
    So: waiting for your opinions.

alex_anthony wrote:If you're using GNOME right now, you could try the Metacity compositor. (In gconf-editor)
and could you have a Qt WM? I don't think so - you can use QT in any WM as is, Qt manages whats in the window, the WM sorts out borders etc
    Isn't KWin written in Qt?
Anyway. I've tried GNOME w/ Metacity. It's working pretty nice. I've always had the feeling that GNOME's way is the way to go, not KDE's: no bloat, no revolution, just steady improvement.
Openbox is way to problematic - e.g., when I used the template autostart.sh Openbox would crash on every start. Sometimes the buttons in GTK apps were unusable.
staple wrote:kde 4 is really light on resources. i'm not sure what more you could want from a traditional DE
You don't know, so I'll tell you: it's stability I want. I really like the new technologies in KDE4 but I'm not a teenager using his computer to play (when I was I didn't care for stability). I need a reliable desktop experience. And I'm not using KDE4 until it stops crashing every 10 minutes.
Edit: I've re-read your post and it is actually the same thing you said, isn't it.

I have recently bought a set of gigaworks s750 speakers and I am having trouble finding out which mp3 players are compatible with them, any help would be appreciated.

    Every one of them.
Your iBook G4 has 802.11b/g capability. So you wouldn't be able to use the latest 802.11n technology. All of the base stations with 802.11n can be configured to operate in an 802.11b/g compatible mode.
