What music app is the best replacement for iTunes 11 on OS X?  Must be able to open multiple playlists.

First step before doing anything with OD is to make certain that local DNS services are correct.  To verify that, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities on the test server, and issue the following harmless, diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
You'll need to enter your administrative password for the sudo to be accepted.
If the output from that command reports no changes are required, then an export from the original OD and an import into the test system would be typical for testing, if you trust what's in the original OD.

  • What is the best replacement for iWeb?

I have been using iWeb for a very long time. I need to move on to something that is being updated. What is the best replacement for iWeb? I see Wordpress needs special software to work on a Mac.
    Thanks!
    Pat

I have used HostExcellence in the past and they support all the CMS's including WordPress, so you should have no problems there.
The top CMS's that most have heard about and use are Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.
There is probably no best one, but you need to look at them all and use the one that best fits your needs.
I have used all of them in the past, but most recently Joomla and Drupal.  Drupal has a reputation for being quite hard and Drupal 6 was, but with the advent of Drupal 7, things got a lot easier.  There are a lot more themes that you can use and if you want increased functionality in Drupal, then you can download Modules and install them.  You can have a membership site if you want it and this is easy to do - people can sign up for an account and you can restrict their access to certain parts of the site and then limit what they can do.  You can allow people to complete forms on the site itself and the results to be sent to you.  There is a Blog module that you can enable and that comes in Drupal Core with no need to download an extra module.
Joomla is good also and you can have a Blog with it too and there are lots of themes to choose from, but sometimes you have to pay for extras with Joomla - you can download Extensions and Plugins, but they may not always be free.
WordPress was always just thought of as a blogging platform, but it has evolved in to much more than that and you can now create stunning looking websites with blogs - there are a good range of free templates to choose from and if you want your blog on the front page of your site you can have this, or you can change it to another part of your site if you want a static front page.  To extend functionality you can download plugins from inside WordPress itself, most of which are free.  This might be the easiest one for you to use if you just want a website with a built in blog that is relatively easy.
Check out the others though at Drupal.org, Joomla.org and then WordPress.org.

  • What is the best replacement for iDVD

I just bought a new iMac and found out that iDVD has vanished. What's the best approch for making slide shows from iPhoto and burning to a  DVD?

Sorry, but I haven't found a way to burn a movie directly from iMovie since iMovie HD (6) (note: burn project to disk):
Whereas, there are no options to burn in the current iMovie version:
You can share it to online sites and you can export it, but you can't burn it.

    Hi all guys here.
    How are you all guys?
    I'm new here.
I'm now running IOS 4.1 for my both iPhone(3Gs and 4)
But i want the new features.
Can anyone here recommend me what the best IOS for iP3Gs and iP4? ( d best performance )
Without battery draining or make my iphone slower.
    I'm greatly appreciate that guys.
    Trillion Thanks!!!

Doesn't really matter, since the only iOS available for either of your phones is iOS 4.3.5, if you chose to update. Users have complained about every single iOS update since the first update for the original iPhone was released. Fact is, the vast majority of users have zero issues & happily go about their ways.

  • We need advice on what cloud service is the best option for us

    Hello,
I work for a very small company, we have two designer. Both of the designers just go new computers and we are looking at switching to the cloud but are confused about what the best plan is for us. We mainly need the creative suites softwares but we occasionally both work with a few production suite programs as well. Again, it is only the two computers and we do not see a need to add anther computer within the new few years. What is the best option for us?

  • What are some of the best cases for iPhone 5c?

What are some of the best clear cases for the iPhone 5c that can protect the phone well?

I was wondering the same thing?  I have a hard time with buying a case, because I bought the phone because of the color it already is!  lol
I was thinking about going with something like the Spigen Case Bumper.  Still allows you to see the color of the phone and still have protection.

  • What is the best replacement for Photoshop from the App Store?

One of the things I miss is my ability to use Photoshop with earlier OS versions.  I do keep a MacBook Pro to the side of my desktop iMac so I can still use Photoshop.
My questions is....can anyone suggest a suitable replacement for Photoshop that I can use with the latest versions of OS?  I have already tried Pixelator but it does not have some of the features that I really beed (like drop shadow).
    Thanks in advance.

  • What is the best format for itunes music to play via Airport Exress

    Hi,
My entire music collection on my itunes was either ripped from CD or purchased from itunes store.
I currently have the latest version of itunes software.
I stream my airtunes via ethernet (Devolo plugs one plugged into my router - the other downstairs plugged into my AX via ethernet cable)connected to electricty circuit, connected to my AX (802.11g) connected to a very good quality amp and speakers (all bi -wired cabling from amp to speakers).
Not all the time but there are certain songs that sound "tinny" to me, the music overshadows the lyrics and I need to play the tune quite loud just to get any feeling for the song. Jazz music also seems overly complex for the airtunes even when purchased from itunes. I was wondering if there is a specific file type or setting that would improve the sound quality ?
I'm not an aficionado but i would have thought there was enough quality to create a decent sound and I'm sure I have not set something up properly.

The editor of Stereophile magazine has tested an AE, and found that it was capable of bit-accurate output. For example, if iTunes has a 16/44.1 file, you will get an exact replica of that file streaming digitally via the AE.
Having said that, they have also concluded that Apple Lossless Compression is also bit-accurate. As such, if you were to rip your CD's using ALC, you will get a perfect digital copy when streaming through an AE. They will of course take up much more space than AAC or MP3.
I have just added a AE to my network, and find that the sound (when using its optical output) is exceedingly good when using ALC based files.
One additional bit of information though is that they tested the analog outputs of the AE, and in terms of the lab measurements found them to be poor. Lab measurements and what you actually hear may not always agree, but since the digital output is essentially transparent to the source, that is the route I have taken.
As for your situation, music purchased from iTunes is, at best, 256K AAC. Fine for ear buds, but probably not suitable for playback over a proper stereo system. And if you have left iTunes at its default settings, you are using 128K AAC for rips from your CD's. Again, quite unacceptable for serious listening.
The settings for importing are found at iTunes Preferences/Advanced/Importing. I would suggest making some test rips of the same music at different settings, including Apple Lossless, and see how those sound over your equipment.

  • What format gives you the best resolution for Home videos to be put on IPAD 2

I am a new user to the IPAD
I want to move some of my Home videos on to the I pad.
    What is the best format?
I have sync the same videos to I phone 4 they look great but on the Ipad they are grainy

Your settings -- between the Compressor, Pixel Aspect Ratio and Frame Size -- are oil-and-water.
If this is going to YouTube (meaning not going to be viewed on traditional TVs) and it's mainly Photos, try using this:
    Frame Size: 1280x720
    Aspect Ratio: HDTV 720p
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Compressor: Motion JPEG A
Quality: 100% (though in a lot of cases, you could drag this down to about 75-80% and quality will not suffer)
Unfortunately, you won't get much (if any) real-time effects. Unless, of course, you're on FCP 6 or later, where you can use a ProRes compressor instead. But with your signature saying 10.4. something, I wasn't sure if it was safe to assume that. The Motion-JPEG setting should work in all versions.

  • I am using the same account for both my Apple TVs but not able to open the movie I purchased on both tvs?

I have two Apple TV's one in my living room and one in our bedroom. I purchased a movie series on the tv in the living room but was not able to open on the tv in the bedroom. I am using the same account for both Apple TV's. Can anyone assist?

    Wecome to the Apple Community.
For the avoidance of doubt, are you able to play the TV show on the Apple TV on which you bought it and it is a TV show and not a movie is it.
What do you mean can't open it, what exactly happens.

The newest version of iPhoto for iOS 5.1 allows you to create Web based "Journals". The feature is not yet available for the OS X version of iPhoto.

Another is I have three types of headsets that do not work with the phone for making calls. I Have a stereo headset that has one button on the mic for answering and hanging up call, I have one with just the microphone ( no button ). and one with hang up/answer button and a volume button. All headsets will play music but you cannot talk out of any of them. They all work in other phones including my house phone.
Is the headset a official headset from Verizon or a 3rd party headset..  Have you tried pulling the headset plug out a little and push button because I have experience issues with Samsung requiring a proprietary item.
Now I went to the vzw store today and they told me that vzw is aware of the problems with the device but they seem to still keep sending you one back for replacement whats up with that. Its like the problem will magically go away with another device.
You do realize you can decline to accept the replacement device, I have had devices offered for a number of issues but I wouldnt accept and figured out the solution on my own..
They also seem to think that if I buy a corded headset that they deem is appropiate hardware for my device it will magically work. I have opened numerous trouble tickets with vzw to get a resolution but i have not gotten anywhere. can someone please direct me to the yellow brick road so that I can go see the wizard and get my problem fixed.

  • What is the best  media for long-term video storage?

I will be loading several MiniDV tapes into my Mac and want to store the video long-term (in a safe-deposit box). These are going to be home movies with some digital photos or scans as well.
I am curious what folks believe is the best medium for this. I am considering a Passport-style HD like those from LaCie, Western Digital and others. Has anyone had good luck with these? Or am I on the wrong track?
Thank you in advance for your opinions,
    jf

I considered getting one of the DVD recorder products from Sony (they say you can plug right into the camera, hit a button and get a DVD copy of the footage in real time)
You understand that a DVD recorder will convert and seriously compress the material in the transcode from DV to mpeg2?
DVDs like this are not a storage system if you are looking to keep original material in a) as close to original quality as possible and b) in an editable format.
40 1 hour DV tapes is just over 500 GB when captured. Get 2 1 TB drives and make two copies of the material. Use one for editing on-line and put the other on a shelf (not in your house). Just be sure to get it back and spin it up every month or so.
The tapes need to be seriously secured. If the safety deposit box is too small, look into a fireproof home vault. 40 tapes do not take up that much space. Just store it in a cool and not humid location.

You appear to have two issues: 1) a hard drive that is not working properly and 2) files you wish to recover.
Re 1) you need to answer Kappy's questions.
Re 2) does the drive load and can you see your photo files? If so can you copy them to another drive?
Do you not have a backup of the photo files?
