What need to do to open a microsoft publisher doc on my iMac??

Have some microsoft pubs that I need to work on. What do I have to do to work on them??

The only way to work on them is to install Windoze and MS Publisher on your Mac - via Boot Camp or a VM.
For pure viewing there are some on-line resources converting it to a PDF, that's as far as it goes.

  • PDF attachments are trying to open in Microsoft Publisher

Why are my PDF attachments trying to open in Microsoft Publisher.  I click on the attachement, Publisher opens up with a File Conversion windown opening as well.  It will not open.  I have to save the file, then open Adobe Acrobat, then open the file.  It just started doing this a few weeks ago.  Anyone know what the problem is??

I'm not sure how the issue would have started, but it sounds like you need to change your file associations so that your computer knows what program to use to open a file with a .pdf extension. Assuming you have a Windows system, below are the directions for fixing this problem (copied from the Microsoft support website):
To change which program starts when you double-click a file, follow these steps:
Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button, and then click Explore.
Click a folder that contains a file of the type that you want Windows to open in a program that you select.
Right-click the file and, depending on the programs installed on your computer, complete one of the following steps:
Click Open With to choose the program that you want.
Point to Open With, and then click Choose Program to choose the program that you want.
The Open With dialog box is displayed. Use one of the following methods to select the program that you want to use for this file type:
In the Programs list, click the program that you want to use.
Click Browse, locate and then click the program that you want to use, and then click Open.
Click Look for the appropriate program on the Web to browse the Internet for the program that you want to use.
Click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box if it is not selected.
    Click OK.
Let me know if you need more help.

  • Opening Microsoft Publisher doc on a Mac?

Can anyone suggest a way to view or open a Microsoft Publisher document on a Mac G4. What I keep reading is that short of running WIndows on the mac, (or perhaps an X11 app.) there is no way. Is this still the case?

How do you open a Microsoft Publisher (.pub) file using inDesign?

    You don't.
To get some semblance of the original content into Indesign, you could export the Pub file to PDF, then use PDF2ID, (probably a free trial available out there), to convert the PDF.

  • Microsoft Publisher docs. to iMac??

Hello everyone..I am an elementary school teacher that needs help. I have tons of documents I created last year when I had a Dell Laptop in Microsoft Publisher. Today, we had to turn in our old laptops and we got these new apple laptops. It is the first time I ever use an Apple computer so I am not very familiar with them. I really need to know if I will be able to transer my docs saved on my external hard drive to this new apple. I would hate to lose all my docs. Thank you so much for your help with this issue.

Publisher docs cannot be opened by any application on Mac OS.

  • How can I convert a Microsoft Publisher doc to PDF when the file size is LARGE?

I have a Microsoft Publisher document that I need converted to PDF. Typically I have no issues converting from Publisher to PDF (and usually can just do it through the "save as" feature in Publisher.) However, this particular file is laden with graphics and therefore very large. I was able to convert it once, but it made some of the graphics as blank boxes. When I try again to convert, it gives me an error message.
Is there a way to conver a LARGE Publisher file to PDF without losing any of the images contained within the document? Please help!

Try emptying the Temp folder. Are you using PDF Maker (not sure that is available for Publisher) or the MS plugin? If PDF Maker, try turning off the tags and reducing the amount of bookmarks needed to a minimum. As an alternative, simply print to the Adobe PDF printer -- will typically give a smaller file and not run into these creation problems for large document, but you will not get bookmarks or such in the conversion process.

  • How can I open a microsoft publisher file on my ipad

I have a bunch of publisher files I need to port over and can't find a program to open them with. I have tried keynote, pages, documents to go and quickoffice. Please tell me there is something out there instead of having to redo them all.

Sorry, Publisher uses a proprietary format that only Publisher itself could open. I'm not aware of any application for an iPad that can open those files. There are some third-party services that purport to be able to convert Publisher files to .doc, but I don't know if those services work well. Otherwise you'll have to copy out the objects and text in the Publisher file and paste them into a Word document which you could then open on the iPad in Pages, Documents To Go, or another app that can edit Word documents.
There are also products and services that say they can convert Publisher files to PDF, if you just need to be able to view them on the iPad.
    Regards.

  • Can you open any Microsoft publisher file on a Mac

    Can I open it?

As Office for Mac doesn't include Access, I'm not at all sure you can.
You could try Open Office, NeoOffice or Libre Office (all free, open source) and see if their database applications can do it.

Use a product such as OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Google Docs, iWork, or Microsoft Office 2008 or newer. In the case of Word documents, you can also use TextEdit.

Or you could just wipe out Lion and restalled Snow Leopard. Then when you are in the market for a new computer, desktop of notebook, buy something other then Apple.
why would you say things like that here? if you are a windows one then stay there. but you are not polite or helpful and if can't use Apple i wonder why you would come here to tell all about your sad story. I don't understand that it has nothing to do with question asked.
I own, or should I say have owned, several Apple products. Including a new MBP.
    I also use Windows.
I will say anything I like in an effort to help people overcome problems they are having with Mac's and computers in general.
Being a Apple Fanboy is not required for membership on this forum or trying to help other Mac users.
And just how is suggesting to remove Lion and to go back to Snow Leopard not helping the OP in his quest to make his already owned and paid for MS Office software work? If it is isn't broken stop trying to fix it. Snow Leopard is a fine OS. Lion is still in Beta, only Apple hasn't told anyone. And yes I run Lion on my new MBP but I also have a partition with Snow Leopard on it.
Thank you and have a great day.

  • What do I need to convert a Microsoft Publisher file to PDF?

I have Microsoft XL Professional and I am doing newsletters for an organization I belong to. I am doing them in Microsoft Publisher, but want to email them to the members using PDF. What Arcrobat product do I need and how do I do it?

    Hi Barb,
Acrobat.com, a free online collection of services, does not support the conversion of Microsoft Publisher files to PDF. Here is the list of supported file types:
text (TXT, PS, RTF), Microsoft Office (DOC, XLS, PPT, PRJ), Open Office (ODT, ODP, ODS, ODG, ODF), Star Office (SWX, SXI, SXC, SXD, STW), Word Perfect (WPD), and image files (BMP, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG)
The full version of Adobe Acrobat, the most current being Acrobat 9, supports a much longer list of file types. For more information, see: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/
I'm guessing that you're using some version of the desktop product at Church?
    Best,
    Michelle

  • What type of software is needed to edit Microsoft based doc, ppt, exl , etc on the iPad 2

What type of software is needed to edit Microsoft based doc, ppt, exl , etc on the iPad 2

I just opened Word and Excel files (technical documents) that were emailed to me in Pages and Numbers, respectively. The Word document was just fine regarding the text but the tables were garbled because merged cells in the original were not merged. I couldn't see any formatting problems with a detailed spreadsheet.
If you're editing a text document you probably won't have any problems on the iPad; if there are tables or images/graphics, you can expect formatting issues about half the time. (I also deal with a lot of graphics intensive Word files from students on my laptop and have a similar incidence of formatting issues. But most of these documents I just have to read and understand, so I don't care if there are formatting issues.))
I've had similar experiences with PowerPoint/Keynote translations. If it's a basic presentation with common fonts, things are very smooth; if not--there can be some formatting issues.
Bottom line: if I just have to edit basic content, I wouldn't hesitate to do that on my iPad. If the formatting is crucial, I'll wait until I have access to my laptop which has Office.

So I've been trying to open some Microsoft Word Documents and it says it can't be opened because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What do I do about this?

    Workarounds:
    1.  Restore the OS X that you formerly used to run Word 2004;
    2.  Partition your hard drive or attach an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) so that you can "dual-boot" into Microsoft Word 2004;
    3.  Upgrade to Word 2011 or use an alternative program; or
    4.  The solution I use: Install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels 7 or 8:

Hi - thanks for this info. Actually I have downloaded a 30-day trial of MS Office for Mac 2011 and it reads/writes. But I was expecting that if I saved it again, either as xls oe xlsx, then I would be able to open the newly-saved document in iWorks '08. This is not the case, any ideas why? cheers, Matt.
