What next for the n97?

I finally got my Orange update to v20 in UK today!
All seems OK so far, although accuweather doesn't work? I like the new features tho!
Has anybody noticed any new issues?
My main question is what is next for the n97? Any more firmware releases likely?

hopefully skype with proper integration into the phones contacts
an improved version of facebook
perhaps some improvements to the UI like not auto-rotating when receiving a call or during a call.
definitely more stability fixes

  • Whats next for the ipod.

    like the ipod movie.

Well the smart things Apple did was introduce one thing to the iPod at a time. 1st it was plain black and white, then it was a newer more battery life iPod w/ more space, then it upgraded it went to a Thinner iPod with Color and pictures, then our new Video capeable iPod w/ pictures, so I think next is a camera built iPod w/ video making capeablilites

  • When is the next firmware coming for the N97

When is the next frimware due for the N97, V20 made it easier to use with kinectic scrolling, apart from that, it has made my phone slower, unresponsive, freezes alot, and caused more bugs innit.
Is there another one coming out to maybe fix the rest of the bugs since V20 is suppose to fix some bugs not all of them, what about the rest of them.

There was an announcement by xbungle in the "software updates" section that the next update for the N97 would be released mid to late next month.

  • A little info about the iSync plugin for the N97

Several 3rd party developers have confirmed that something is broken in the way the N97 communicates via the iSync plugin. Nokia has changed, incorrectly implemented, or out right made something wrong and a firmware upgrade is DRASTICALLY needed or a plugin will NEVER work. The problem started with Nokia and ends with Nokia. They need to fix the problem with the N97. The developers feel that unless Nokia fixes this problem there will never be a plugin for the N97. It is as simple as that.
This is all the info that I have at the moment. For the time being the only way to sync your data is:
    1. Prepare all of your data the way you want on your phone and then us Ovi. This can be a problem too as Ovi is not that great and is not very stable.
    2. You can use Memotoo (www.memotoo.com) to sync your data via SyncML. I have used tried it and it works okay. Better than Ovi for sure but it costs.
    3. You can use The Missing Sync by Mark Space (www.markspace.com - currently testing). It does not use the same way to sync via iSync plugins. The Missing Sync sends a plugin to your phone instead. The syncing is very stable and works flawlessly. The only drawback is that the phone plugin is not exactly designed for the N97 and it requires that the N97 needs to be reboot sometimes to sync. Other than this, the operation is flawless and it appears that Mark Space will be able to fix this one problem faster than Nokia will be able to fix their phone.
    Hope this helps......

Yes, once you have MfE, you can sync N97 to Google Calendar and Gmail Contact list. The Mac's iCal app can add the Google Calendar. For Address Book, there are two choices: Access Gmail Contact via LDAP, or do proper synchronization in iSync style (see http://lifehacker.com/393855/enable-google-contact-sync-without-an-iphoneipod-touch).
MfE is not "installed" by default in the N97, but it is actually there. I need to credit someone on this forum for mentioning it, but I'm afraid I forgot who. The steps are basically thus:
Basically go to the Menu -> App folder, look for Settings Wizard "Sett. wiz.". Try to setup an email account from there. Don't use your gmail account though (it seems like MfE tries to be smart when it recognizes some email domains and pre-selects some settings for you, but we need to be able to access some options to set on our own). Don't worry about this account, you can always delete it once MfE is configured. At some point of the setup, you will be asked what kind of server. Choose Mail for Exchange. This will trigger Mail for Exchange to be installed.
Subsequently you will see your MfE folder populated with Mail for Exchange and other stuffs. Get into it and configure your Gmail. Some settings to note:
    Exchange server: m.google.com
    Secure connection: Yes
    Use default port: Yes
Username: Your gmail username (just the name, no need the @gmail.com part)
    Password: For the gmail account
Domain: gmail.com (I believe blank is also ok, but mine is current set as such)
Make sure that synchronization is set for Contacts and Calendar only. Tasks must be disabled (it used to be because Google Calendar did not support Tasks, but even they do support Tasks now, it still breaks MfE). Email must be disabled.
    Done.
I did have further trouble though. The sync keeps hanging and then eventually "Invalid Password" error (yah right, after sync halfway they realize my password is wrong... no, something else is mucked up). I eventually deleted my phone data, and re-sync it from Google again, and everything was fine.
Once you've got your phone data on Google, you can search Google for other tips on pulling the data into Mac.
Hope you have fun getting this to work.

  • What privileges for the DB account used by client connect to server?

Hello, After I installed the SBO server packages, I found that it must set DB account in the client side.
I had tried 'sa' account, it works. but I thought we should not leave the super account in each client side.
So I want to know what privileges should be assiged to the account in SQL Server?
Or somewhere already have documents to say how to build up the client account.
    thanks.

  • Converting video files for the N97

Can anyone recommend a good piece of software for converting video files into mp4 for the N97?
I have tried Nero, and various other freeware and shareware packages, and I am able to produce a file which will play on my PC, but nothing which will play on the N97. In some cases the phone cannot see the file at all, other times it's there through file manager, but only plays the audio, no video.
    This is getting frustrating!
    Thanks
    Andrew

Give Format Factory a try http://www.pcfreetime.com/ converts virtually all video types including DVD.
has profiles for most mobile phones including the Nokia 5800 (works with the N97)
also converts most audio types and images
    Best of all, it's Free

  • Does the latest Turn-by-turn for the N97 have Navt...

Is the Navteq Traffic Patters (historical speed data) currently available for the N97 Nokia Maps turn-by-turn software?
If so, can it be downloaded for offline use, or will it require an active data connection?

It certainly won't be in the Nokia Maps 2.0 that is shipped with the phone, and I've not personally heard anything about it being incorporated in Maps 3.0 (which is currently in Beta phase).
All maps data in all versions of Nokia Maps can be downloaded to the phone's mass memory or memory card using Nokia Map Loader, you don't require an active data connection in use.

  • Is there a video converter for the N97 in the Ovi ...

Yea, so is there any video converting software for the n97?? by Ovi Suite?
    n97.

The answer to your question is no, there is one in PC Suite, which is very simple to use. But I use QuickMedia Converter, and there are 100's of similar conversion programmes on the web, all you need to do is convert video into MP4 and drag and drop to E.
    Good Luck
PS there are LOADS of threads on video conversion on the forum, just try the User Search

  • Blackberry Connect for the N97? (Nokia Messaging ...

DAVISFIELDS, VANDELAY, JEREMIAHN, DEAN98 ARE YOU LISTENING?
I know Nokia was pushing BlackBerry Connect for some E Series devices last year.  Are they going to work with RIM to get this to the N97?  The current solution of having to open three different programs for Call Log, Email traffic, and SMS Traffic blows. I can't get HTML views of exchange mail?  What century is this?
If I want HTML views of any email, I have to download a second program called "Nokia Messaging" that apparently doesn't conflict with the "Nokia Messaging" that's installed on the phone already?    I'm still limited to html views only of my popular webmail provider accounts.
Tech support (even Tier 2) at nokia doesn't even know what nokia messaging is.  Private Messaging people in the Messaging team in the forums here doesn't work.  I think it's time to recognize that the N97 and support that goes with it is half baked and it's time to sell my N97.  Just to show there are no hard feelings, here's the constructive part of my criticism.
There should be a single view of all email traffic, sms traffic, and call logs.  I should be able to go into this single view, and see at:
    4:00pm I called Bill Rogers
4:05 I received an email on my gmail account from John Holmes
4:09 I sent an SMS to Michael Chong
4:20 I Received an SMS from Cheech Marin
    4:27 I got a call from Chuck D
4:58 I sent a message to Michael Gasol from my exchange account
5:01 I sent a gmail message to [email protected]
The list should be sorted by date by default but have other sortable and search entries. This doesn't take into account that the Blackberry Connect software integrates seamlessly with their BBM (IM) client, so I also see instant messages in the list too.
Tech support at Nokia should know how to use their FLAGSHIP model. Maybe a training course on the available products?
Hire a development and UI manager for the messaging interface.  The N97 is difficult to navigate at best and having such a terrible (let me repeat that, TERRIBLE) interface, makes it likely that end users think their phone is malfunctioning. A trained monkey could figure out not to ship your messaging product until it worked better.
Oh yeah, and the message store on the N97?  If I plug my N97 into my USB port as a mass storage device, my messages get pushed onto the main memory where there is practically no storage! Now I have an extra two inboxes (for exchange and SMS) that I need to check once I've unplugged my phone.  And if you have a message in  your inbox while in landscape mode and the envelope indicator is on the upper left hand corner next to the clock, you can't press on the envelope to go to the new message.  It works in portrait just fine, and when in the home screen the envelope is on the upper right and works.
Nokia, I think it's time I make a youtube video of why your N97 messaging interface sucks so hard.  I think the largest reason I'm writing this is because I haven't gotten a response from 3 or 4 of the Nokia employees in the messaging team that I've tried to message in here.
Yeah, I'd appreciate a response.  Otherwise, I think I've reached the tipping point where I sell this garbage, start slagging Nokia and dragging their names through online mud.

  • Any ideas on a cover for the n97?

    Hi all
I have a plastic hard case for my n97 at the minute off ebay but that has cracked and broken.
Instead of getting a new one can anybody give any good advice for a film like cover similar to the invisible shield?
I don't like the idea of having to wet the invisible shield to attach it so any alternatives would be great!
    Cheers

Hi,I have Martin Fields screen protector on my screen, but many others available, invisible shield gets rave reviews, but there are many others, you tend to find that you get what you pay for. Just about all will work, but more money will get you something that will last longer. As for wetting the phone, you don't exactly run it under a tap, it's simply easier to apply adhesive vynal if its slightly moist, as the glue doesn't bond as quickly and you've got more chance to adjust it.
Only other advice I can give, is take your time when fitting, carefully position screen cover before applying any pressure, and make sure that everything is as clean and dust free as possible, wash your hands and the surface your working on and clean the phone screen thoroughly'
    Good Luck

  • Have an iPod mini what next for my G4

Hello, My wonderful used G4 audio digital is a really nice computer and I enjoy learning more about it. Now I have a hand me down iPod mini. OK I charged it up using the USB on my Gateway PC. So when I plug the iPod mini into the Gateway USB the good ole 'do not disconnect appears in the mini's window. When I plug it into the G4 either my audio digital or Quicksilver the iPod mini window will light up and I can scroll through the controls. I did download a manual for the mini. What would i need or what could i download to get my mini to play through the G4? Of course tranfer sounds to my mini from the G4?
What do I use to get the mini to play into a PC too.
Next; can I take my mini and just stick it into any computer like a USB storage device too?
Plus it needs head phones. Chances are I can find head phones for it most anywhere and can I play the mini direct to power speakers?
    The learning goes on
    Patrick

To make it do tricks on a Mac or a PC you would need to have iTunes on the Mac or PC. There are separate forums for numerous versions of iTunes, where folks with expertise in the use of iTunes are eager to help you.
You may need a third-party program to load stuff FROM the ipod TO the Mac or PC. Apple's model assumes your Master Library is on a Mac or PC and that the iPod holds temporary copies to be played. It is not intended to do easy uploads.
One limiting factor is that many versions of iTunes have specific requirements for which version of Mac OS X must be running. Only a few very old iPods are supported by the version of iTunes that will run under OS 9. If you are running Mac OS X 10.4, you can run the latest iTunes.
Yes, that output is a headphones output, suitable for any standard headphones or earbuds \[in-ear headphones without the headband], powered speakers, or the iPod input jack in many newer cars.

  • What next for java?

Hi this is a generic question, just for a discussion. However I was thinking, what will come next for java? What would developers want to see in java?
I do not know if this question has been asked before, however it would be intresting to know what other people expect to see in java in the future.
In the last version of j2se we found out new elements like generics, enum, or like the following which I do not know the name of:
    public void doSomething(String... strings){
         for(String s: strings){
              System.out.print(s);
}So now I was windering what you people expect to see next in Java? Do you people think java can still continue to evolve, etc
    regards,
    sim085

The reason of this post os not to explain me what those things are (I did not relaize I placed two new elements there from the J2se 5.0 ... the cool thing is the varargs ... notice the three dots in the parameter section of thre method) :)
However my post is there to see what other people want to see in Java next :) Thanks for the answer however :D

  • Am I the last one without the V.12 for the N97?

I have the British version 505, a few days ago I got a SMS telling me that I have an update avaliable, but when I go online with the NSU at my computer it tells me that there isn´t an update avaliable. Anyone else?
By the way, I´m in Brazil.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I wouldn't worry about V12 if I were you... I was foaming at the mouth waiting for it to arrive for the UK country varient N97... When it did I noticed no difference at all! All the annoying bugs that V11 had were still there.
It still switches text message storage from mass to main if you USB connect as a drive. It still randomly puts the unlock code virtual pad into alpha mode, so your numberic code has to be entered with long key presses to avoid getting letters instead. The browser text entry learn new dictionary word bug is still there.
I took a photo today with the GPS info turned on. Later I tried to view it and asked to be shown the location... Ovi Maps exploded! Big red error message... First one I've seen!
I think the only thing they did do was prevent the browser from eating all the main storage. That's it! (get y-browser and delete the c:\system\cache clears this, that what I used to do with V11).
Just cross your fingers that you might get V20 when everyone else does... Whenever that is!
