I don't think it's necessary to run "Repair Permissions". But you know what it never hurt to do it.
Here's how:
1. Open Disk Utilities from the Applications/Utilities.
2. Once in Disk Utilities select your drive from the left pane then select First Aid from the right pane.
3. In the First Aid window select the "Repair Permission" button.
4. Once it's complete you're done.
Now there is something that I always due when I get a new disk, and that's run "Verify Disk" From DU First Aid. If in the event that for some reason "Verify Disk" reports errors, then you'll need to boot the Mac from the OSX install DVD to attempt repair. POST back here and someone can go through those steps if need be, I doubt you'll be needing to do that!
Why do I run "Verify Disk"? It just assures me that there are no problems with the disk from the get go.

Keyboard/trackpad issues - something new i noticed
I'm using my MacBook Pro (non unibody) in no light, and I've been having the repeating keys/touch to click not working/etc issues for a while, but now I notice something new that could have been going on ever since I've had these issues. Typically when Tap to Click stops working, I go reselect it in System Preferences. But it stops working randomly. Now that I'm using it without any light on, I noticed that right before/as things start to mess up, the caps lock light blinks once, every time. Pretty odd.

Hi Team, I am fairly new at this & I'm trying for the first time to download a movie, however its not allowing me to play as it says I need to download quicktime which I have tried to do, I have this application now but its still not allowing me to play movie, any help please for someone who hasnt got a clue
where did you download the movie from?

it is a macbook pro, OS X mountain lion 10.8.2, i can open new windows and exit them but not all the pop upsStart from your recovery system. The latest auto update of SwagBucks now locks the Open New Tab page into swagbucks.com.
I've lost my TILES page.
My HOME page is still correctly set and regardless of what that is, the Open New Tab page always goes to SwagBucks.com.
I've removed everything I can find that is SwagBucks, including add-ons/extensions.
Since that update, there is NO LONGER the usual/stated "cogwheel" for the TILES to turn them back on/set their level of function (classic, enhanced, etc.).
I use Windows 7 and the latest Firefox Browser, 35.0.1.Install this - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
It will reset the new tab page, among other things, and then disappear once it has done its work. -
Hi- I have successfully cloned my internal hard drive onto my new larger hard drive. Before I install it into my Macbook, is there anything I should test, or procedure to run, before making the switch, to confirm that the new HD is working properly. All applications that I use on a daily basis work normally. I read something about running a "permissions" check to make sure the new drive is up to snuff. I am not familiar with that procedure. Please advise. Thank you.

Guys i have a problem, I used to download apps from one of my friends apple id, now i created my new account, but when i was about to update my apps its asks for my friends id and password. now how could i update my old apps from my new apple id?

No. purchases are forever tied to the apple ID used to buy them. Delete them and buy your own copies. -

If the old laptop was a mac also, then use your Time Machine backup to restore you user settings and files.

I updated to the newest version of iTunes and now I can not open the program. I get the message "The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". What now? I'm using Windows Vista.
Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
1. Delete old Library file
2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension - 'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file. -
