What operating system do you need to run AirPort Management Utility v1 ?

What operating system do you need to run AirPort Management Utility v1 ?
TIA,
John.

Not sure what's not working for you with the AirPort Management Utility, but the following Apple article describes some missing functionality with OS X 10.2.x clients. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107940)

  • PowerBook Can't Run Airport Management Utility

I'm still trying to find out why my PowerBook can't run Airport Management Utility, even though all of my other Airport software is up to date. When I try to launch the utility, it gives the message that it "requires Airport 3.4 or later", which I do already have.
Below is a description of my latest effort, followed by my original question, which has been archived in this discussion group.
I created and logged in via a new user account, but I still got the same 'requires Airport 3.4 or later' message from Airport Management Utility. I took it from this that the problem was not related to user preferences.
I then used Spotlight to search the Library folder. The only airport pref I found there was com.apple.airport.preferences.plist, located in this path: Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.
The computer would not let me move this to the desktop, but copied it instead. I can open that copy in TextEdit, but if I double click on it, it actually launches in OmniOutlner. A check via "Get Info" shows that it is set to "Open with: OmniOutliner" from the drop down menu in the Get Info box.
If you open this plist in OmiOutliner, you find the information I've listed below. It appears to show that the file does know the Airport software version is "5" and not less than 3.4:
    • Disconnect on logout 0
    • AllowEnable 0
    ▶ Default 802.1X Configurations
    • InterferenceRobustness 0
    • Require Admin for network 0
    change
    • JoinMode 1
    • Always remember new networks 1
    ▶ List of known networks
    • Version 5
    • Require Admin for IBSS creation 1
    • Fallback Preference 0
The only other items in the Library folder with "airport" in the name are both in the Receipts folder: AirportTI2005-001.pkg and AirportConfigApps.pkg.
I'd welcome your thoughts on this.
    My original posting was:
I have the newest PowerBook G4 , purchased this fall with Mac OS X 10.4.3 and AirPort Update 2005-001 installed.
When I try to run Airport Management utility I get the message : " "The Airport Management Utility requires Airport 3.4 or later. Click Update to check for newer software." While Airport Management Utility will not run on my PowerBook, it does run on my iMac with 10.3.9.
    I've tried:
-installing "AirPort Update 2005-001" but it didn't solve the problem.
-installing "AirPort 4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.2", thinking that if it were not needed, the installer would not run. It did install, but that did not solve the problem.
-re-installing "AirPort Update 2005-001", which did install a second time, but did not solve the problem. (I thought perhaps the installer for this update wouldn't run a second time.)
Does anyone know of a solution, or does Apple need to update Airport Management Utility?
(I've cross-posted this in the Airport discussion area, but I also wanted to check with others who recently bought the same PowerBook.)
    Thanks for your help.

"OK, I've been following this thread since February and I think I got this thing figured out. Joseph Jordan pointed to the right direction and I did some more digging.
I had the same problem as most posters here:
    - ALL 10.3 machines had AirPort Management Utility working but,
    - NOT ALL 10.4 machines had AirPort Management Utility working.
In my case, no 10.4 computer had AMU working (updated from 10.3 or fresh install of 10.4, Intel or PowerPC, even brand new MacBook Pro and PowerBook G4 out of the box), EXCEPT one xserve that was updated from 10.3.
As I said before, Joseph Jordan pointed to the right direction, the file/folder AirPortConfig.framework in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ is missing.
It seems that AirPortConfig.framework was installed when AirPort 4.1 was installed. AirPort 4.2 installs Apple80211.framework only. I think...
In some cases, AirPortConfig.framework is there (updated machines), but the file AirPortConfig is missing in AirPortConfig.framework/Versions/A/
as well as the symbolic links to it and to other folders.
    Solution:
The easiest way is to copy the whole AirPortConfig.framework to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/
If you already have AirPortConfig.framework and AMU is not working, move it to the trash or somewhere else.
I found AirPortConfig.framework in the "AirPort Extreme Software Installation" CD (CD version 4.1 2Z691-5219-A):
    1. Open the CD
    2. Control-click "AirPort for Mac OX X v10.3" and select Show original
    3. Control-click "AirPortSW.pkg" and select Show Package Contents
    4. Open Contents
    5. Drag Archive.pax.gz to the Desktop
    6. Double-click Archive.pax.gz to unarchive the file
    7. AirPortConfig.framework is in ~/Desktop/Archive/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    8. Drag AirPortConfig.framework to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ You will be asked to authenticate.
AMU should work at this point.
Alternatively, download "AirPort 4.1 Update.dmg" from
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport41formacosx.html
and follow from step 3. above.
This solution seems to work on both Intel and PowerPC machines.
Computers tested: Power Mac G5, Powerbook G4 12" and 17", MacBook Pro.
IMPORTANT: I do not know if this solution breaks anything. CAVEAT EMPTOR!"

  • What operating system will i need to restore my macbook?

I have the Februrary 2008 macbook. I bought it about a week ago off someone on gumtree. It hadn't been restored so i figured the grey installation ones would work. After erasing the content on the hard drive i inserted disk 1. After then selecting what language it popped up saying 'OS X cannot be installed on this computer.' After looking at the grey disk again it said 2007 so i'm guessing it was the wrong one. Anyway i was wondering if i just buy an operating system off Apple would i be able to install it correctly? Basically i can't access my macbook and i have no clue what operating system to buy because i'm new to mac. Thanks for the help!

Phone Apple and order replacement original disks; if you want, you can buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store instead, but won't get iLife or the Apple Hardware Test.

  • I have an ipod touch 5th generation but have 10.5.8 operating system, what operating system do i need?

My daughter received a 5th Generation iPod touch for Christmas, the newer one with the lightning USB, but when I try to sync it to my Mac, it says that the Operating System isn't up to date. Its 10.5.8. Is my next option the Snow Leopard 10.6 or the Mountain Lion? We're thinking of getting iPhone 5's as well.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
A 5th generation iPod and an iPhone 5 need iTunes 11, that needs Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later.
First, see if your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 if it's supported, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade.
After upgrading, open  > Software Update to install the most recent version. Maybe you will have to run Software Update again after updating to 10.6.8 in order to install iTunes 11.0.1. After that, you will be able to sync the iPod touch.
If you want, you can upgrade to Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If your Mac is supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. Check if your programs are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

    Josejanko,
You don't supply much info other than your machine is old, so here is some info for you to check thru.
Before doing anything you should have a back up, preferably 2, in the event something goes wrong.
You would have to start by upgrading to Snow Leopard, you would need to buy the disk for about $20 here  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Check the the requirements to see if your machine meets them.
You would then need to run the 10.6.8 v1.1 combo update to get it to 10.6.8 Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
You can then access the APP STORE and possibly upgrade to to further OSX.
You may have applications that will not be compatible with any thing past Snow Leopard, you can check those here Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!
    http://roaringapps.com/apps
Office 2008 will not work with anything newer than Snow Leopard for an wxample
You may be able to upgrade to Lion or MT Lion or Yosemite, depending on your machine, from the APP STORE.

If you are running 10.6.8 you can download 10.9 from the App Store and install it with going through 10.7 and 10.8 first. 10.9 Mavericks is a free download in the App Store.
10.9 Mavericks will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.9 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mavericks doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mavericks.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • How many partitions and operating systems can you line up in BootCamp?

A quick question, hopefully with a quick answer.
How many partitions and operating systems can you line up in BootCamp?
Are we limited to just 2, or can we have more?
Say, for example, Mac, Win XP, Win Vista and Linux maybe?
    Thanks in advance.

VPC does not run on Intel Macs. If you wish to use virtualization on an Intel Mac see this:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
    6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion.
Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.
You can upgrade XP to Vista without having to make any changes to the Boot Camp partition. Vista can either perform an upgrade install or erase the Windows volume before installing Vista. You don't need to do anything to change the partition via Boot Camp. However, if you need to enlarge the partition, then the only way that can be done is to first use Boot Camp to remove the partition. Then use Boot Camp to make a new, larger partition. All data from the Windows partition will be lost.

  • Windows 8 FAQ: After upgrading, what Operating System will I have after Windows 8 Repair?

    Question:
Once I upgrade to Windows 8, if I need to send my PC back to HP for hardware repair, what operating system will be running on my system?
    Answer:
For most repairs, the PC will be returned with the Windows 8 operating system intact.  However, if the system repair requires, for example, a new PC hard drive, then a re-image of the PC will be required, and the original shipping operating system will be re-installed

  • What Operating Systems does...

What Operating Systems does java run on ? I have been looking about for some sort of list but couldnt find one. It is just out of interest.
Does anyone have any idea ?
    Thanks :)

    just kidding
java is platform independent, meaning compiled once,
runs everywhereJava runs where there's a JVM available. That's the practical limit to anywhere. You also must make sure all the JDK's you've used are available. For example if you have used Java3D it will limit you to just a fraction of the otherwise available platforms.
This is a list of platforms where SWT (an alternative to Swing) is available. So Java is available on these platforms and maybe a few odd more,
    Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
    Linux (x86/Motif)
    Linux (x86/GTK 2)
    Solaris 8 (SPARC/Motif)
    QNX (x86/Photon)
    AIX (PPC/Motif)
    HP-UX (HP9000/Motif)
    Mac OSX (Mac/Carbon)

    Hi Gurus,
What operating system and which version is best for  run the SAP MI applications in PDA and in the laptop?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Dharani

    Hi,
if you run MI on Laptop. it is necessary to have Java vailable. so any OS with Java should work, Windows XP is recommended. Vista will work as well in latest versions of MI. On PDA: use WinCE operating System. In latest version of MI WinCE 6.0 Professional is supported - not the MobilePhone version, only the PDA Version.
See MI PAM for more and uptodate details.

Just to avoid confusion - during provisioning, the phone is downloading a configuration from remote server. Phone is client. Provisioning process require a server (HTTP or FTP or TFTP) running somewhere.
You are speaking about browser, not server, so it seems you are speaking about manual configuration of phone, not the provisioning. Even in the case you are speaking about server, you speaking about upgrade of OS, not the provisioning (HTTP/FTP/TFTP) server software. On the other side, you are speaking about "initial profile downloads from Windows 7" asking about browser versions. I'm confused. Can you explain what are you trying to do in more details ?
Something like: "I did A, expecting B as result but C happened".
Debug/log from phone device and/or catched communication between browser and phone and/or phone and provisioning server may help to analyze the problem.
