What OS will my MacBook 2,1 support?

Apparently I need to repair my start up disk but I don't have a OS bootable disk! What will my MacBook support that I can get from the apple store?

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • Which versions of Adobe Creative Suite will my MacBook 1,1 support?

I purchased the Production Premium for a new desktop, but need to install at least Photoshop and Illustrator on my laptop.  It is a MacBook 1,1.  After spending a day trying to install (including an hour with an apparently clueless technician on the telephone), I did what he said and downloaded a trial version (of Creative Suite, as I didn't want all the other programs and have little room left in my memory).  It downloaded successfully, but then when I tried to open it, I got the message that my MacBook didn't support this version.  I can't work without these two programs.  I have already uninstalled CS2, which didn't support documents created at work (on CS5.5).  Is there any way to upgrade my system or downgrade my backup (to 5.5, if it will work), or do I actually have to buy a new laptop?

or do I actually have to buy a new laptop?
Yes. The first generation MacBooks do not support any of the required stuff for newer versions of Adobe products. The last one that would work on your system would be CS4, but that is 2 versions out of date and it still wouldn't open e.g. InDesign CS5.5 files. And no, there is no way to "downgrade". Adobe (and authorized resellers) only sell the latest version.

  • What OS will my Macbook be able to run?

    Hi guys,
I have decided to dust off the cobwebs from my very old MacBook c~2006 (1.83 GHz MacBook (MA254LL/A)) and upgrade it to use as a spare living room computer.
I am going to upgrade the memory to the max (2gb) and upgrade the hard drive to a 500gb drive.
I was wondering what Operating system would run comfortably on it.
I am guessing Snow Leopard would be the one to choose but I am really not to sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Stewyb

The maximum OS for your model 1,1 is 10.6 Snow Leopard. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook_1.83.html
You can upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6.
See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc....  I recently upgraded an older MacBook (model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 from the Apple Store as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. It might still be available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.
A retail 10.5 Leopard disk will run you around $200
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any third party Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Snow Leopard.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Will my MacBook Pro '11 support the software needed for my new AirPort Time Capsule?

I've got a MacBook Pro '11, OS X 10.6.8 and am trying to back up my photo library to a new AirPort Time Capsule 2TB.
When trying to set it up in AirPort Utility, I am getting the warning "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility."
    1. Where do I go to get the latest version of AirPort Utility?
    2.  Will the latest version work with OS X 10.6.8?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Yes. The latest version will be installed when you upgrade to Yosemite.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • What memory will my HP zv6008cl laptop support?

It has 512K DDR PC2700 chips, but will it do better?
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
Below is the product specs page for your notebook.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00308221&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
    Max memory is DDR-PC2700 2 x 1 GB.
You could also run DDR-PC3200 but I am not sure if the memory will run at 400 MHz or 333 MHz.
If the PC3200 memory is the same price as the PC2700, you would have nothing to lose by getting it.
I like the crucial memory scanner tool. I recommend you run it and see what it reports.

  • Will my macbook from 2004 support snow leopard?

I need to know if my macbook 10.5.8 can update to lion software! Or do I need to buy a new MAC?

There are no 2004 MacBooks; if you have a 2004 Apple laptop, it's a PowerBook or iBook and can't run Snow Leopard. Getting Lion 10.7 requires going through 10.6 and that the Mac has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and at least 2GB of RAM.

  • What dvd format does macbook dvd drive support?

I am having difficulty using DVD+R playing back on my macbook pro from 2009. Any thoughts?

some DVDR media wont work on various DVD drives. Memorex and some dark layer Sony disks are notorius for this.  the ONLY DVD blanks that work on every DVD player made, and are the most reliable are the JVC  archival blanks.  However these cannot be found in average retail stores, they need to be ordered    make sure to get DVD+R,    DVD-R are, in all brands, have a higher unreliability rate and their nature is high reject to write ratio, and are more corruptable.

  • Will my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard support Wi-Di?

Will my Macbook Pro w/ OS X 10.6.8 support Wi-Di? If so, what brand/type/version.

The wireless card inside your MBP is not an Intel card. You would also need to run Windows 7
    so, the answer is NO!

  • Can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.

  • Printing from MacBook Pro 17" Mid 2010 running 10.8.2 ... persistent inability for Apple MacBook Pro to print to a variety of HP printers (have run Windows and Ubuntu on Parallels and same printers work) ... what is going on with Apple printer support?

What is wrong with Apple's support of printers ... inability for MacBook Pros to connect with HP and other printers. Yet the same printers
work under Mac OS based Parallels (running Windows or Ubuntu) - WHY?  Finger pointing (HP . Apple ... Apple > HP) ... who cares ... FIX IT ... this has gone on for months now. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

HP discontinued support (read: stopped updating their OS X printer drivers) for a lot of their printers back when Apple released Snow Leopard and dropped even more when Lion was released.  This is an HP problem, not an Apple problem.
Exacty what  printers are you having problems with?
If any of your printers are on the HPIJS list, try installing the HPIJS drivers (there are 3 files to install, and it won't hurt anything).   This solved the issue for me on Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt. Lion with my older HP printers.

  • I have MBP 13 late 2011:Will it be able to support a 3tb hardisk?Secondly, if i delete a song from itunes,is that song removed from the mac and is the space freed up?If not then what should I do to free up space when i delete songs from itunes?

    I have MBP 13 late 2011:
Will it be able to support a 3tb hardisk?
Secondly, if i delete a song from itunes,is that song removed from the mac and is the space freed up?If not then what should I do to free up space when i delete songs from itunes?

Your MBP will support a 3T HDD provided it is formatted correctly and has sufficient power.  Most large HDDs require an outboard power source.
When you delete songs from iTunes you will get a message if you want to send it to trash.  If you send it to trash, space will be freed up only when you empty trash.  An individual song does not consume much space so if your HDD is becoming full, more drastic action s should be considered, such as moving an entire file to an external HDD.
    Ciao.

  • HT201475 I am currently running OSX 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro. Can I upgrade straight to Yosemite and if I can what issues will I face?

I am currently running OSX 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro. Can I upgrade straight to Yosemite and if I can what issues will I face?

    1. It depends on what Mac model you have. If it's incapable of running Yosemite, installing an intermediate version won't help with that.
    2. You'll lose the ability to run PowerPC software, and some other programs may also be incompatible. If something goes wrong, you might lose data; back your computer up first. There aren't any issues specifically associated with skipping versions.
