When you delete items (movies, music, whatever) from your iTunes library the sync software automatically deletes those items from your iPod. The sync's goal is to make your iPod mirror your iTunes library.
When you use the "only sync checked items" it tells the software that <only> those items are to be on your iPod -it will delete other items from that category.
I don't have a video iPod to test with, but I think your only option is to sync everything you want onto your iPod, and then turn off sync completely, in favor of manual updates.

- Saw your other post as well... basically, the red light that transmit the digital signal optically has no problem going through the hollow hole at the end of the 3.5mm adapter and therefore the minijack can be analog (metal to metal transfer) or digital...optically...

p.s... intel's "HD audio" actually is supposed to support upto 7.1, not that I've ever encountered a source for that many channels :-P. The macbook pro is very smart in every respect though, as soon as it sees the optical connected, it switches over to a bitstream optical signal and transmits digital audio that your receiver can decode into 5.1 as long as it has a dolby digital decoder, or DTS if you're watching a movie that is encoded in DTS.

CSM: need help, are you using shared policies only or inheritence or whatever

I'm starting with CSM and the biggest problem for me is what to use shared policies only and/or local-inherited policies.
it would be great to hear from you what you use and maybe even why. my environment is 2 FWSM 40 contexts and about 30 ASA Firewalls.

Most users use shared policies. It is probably because they want to centrally manage the policy that is used in many devices, and not need to change the parent device every time they need to make a policy change in inherited policies.

Running windows 7 on MacBook pro using parallel desktop 5. All I wanna do is organize my photos that are in the mac pictures directory with windows photo gallery, wfg sees the pictures and I can even delete them, but I can't move a picture from a folder to another folder, I've set read write permissions everywhere I could think of, still no luck, please help. I use Parallels. What is the Mac pictures directory? Do you mean the Pictures folder in your Home folder? There are probably a number of solutions but perhaps it might be easy for you to just drag the photos you want to put into wpg (windows photo gallery) from the Mac side to the Windows side.

In the very near future I will be obtaining a 17" MBP. That's just savvy, except for one minor detail. What is an ExpressCard/34 slot, why do I need one, why would it have been included in this particular size MBP and what can I shove in there?

The expresscard slot is for expansion purposes. it allows a low cost esata connection to your macbook pro. you can plug an esata adapter in and then use one of many external esata enclosures. "apiotek ec-0003d" costs about 40 bucks and will let you add 2 non-bootable external esata enclosures then can run at 3Gbps. fw800 runs at 800Mbps..
"OWC esatat sata expressCard/34Adapter" bootable 1 esata adapter is 19 bucks it will let you add 1 esata enclosure at speeds up to 3Gbps.
so if you get the non bootable one you can add 2 enclosures like "sans digital towerStor Ts2ct". that would be up to 4Tb for each one total of 8tb far faster then fire wire. if you get the bootable 1 esata type you could add 1 external at 4tb. this lets you macbook pro boot from a 4tb external at internal speeds. kind of gives you the ability to make you laptop a real desk top when you want it to be that. Then back to a real lap top by unplugging it. Not trying to sell any of the above items I just happen to use them.
This option was pulled from iMac's a real drag as iMacs could use more fast enclosures.

Spotlight is indexing but what? And why does it want access to the web?

I can see Spotlight is indexing, it spends several hours a day doing this, every day.
Where can i find more details like previous OS X versions? Which drive, how much time left etc.
Console was no help, any suggestions welcome.
Also, with "Spotlight Suggestions" and "Bing Web Searches" disabled in the Spotlight Search Results references, why is the process "Spotlight Web Content" still trying to access the web several times a day? I am not using Spotlight when this happens nor am i trying to preview any files that have web content in them. Most commonly it tries to connect to static.amazon.com on the http port.

In System Preferences > Spotlight > Search Results, if you have "Bookmarks and History" checked, then the "Spotlight Web Content" background process will crawl any web page that you recently visited to index its keywords. Uncheck that to turn it off.

Help: Can you use software trigger on a digital line.

Hi:
We have a legacy DAQCARDard 700 which does not support hardware triggering.
We have a trigger from our instrument that is 5 V+ and we would like to
trigger when it drops to 0 V. We have several questions.
1. Do we need to invert the signal in MAX or is that only for V that are
negative?
2. Is there a good example in the examples where the state of this digital
line is used to trigger an analog acquisition? When we tried using the
digital trigger examples, we had an error saying that the hardware did not
support that mode.
3. We have an analog software trigger mode (based on the Analog Software
Trigger example) working which we would like to modify over to read the
digital line, but we have done very little wi
th digital I/O.
4. The digital trigger has been assigned a virtual channel of dtrg.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Doug,
If we read the digital line instead of as an analog line would it improve
the accuracy of the triggering. Everything works now except we have a
little bit of timing jitter within about 1 data point scanning at 50 kHz.
However, I've never done any digital i/o with LabView, but may I should work
through some of the tutorials. If you thought that this might solve the
jitter problem. Would checking the state of the digital line allow a faster
response with softtrig, I guess is my question?

What happened? And why?...I had to press the start button...

I was in class this morning and used my computer as usual. When the class finished I tried putting it to sleep, but it wouldn't work. Since I had to rush out I just put the lid down and went back home. When I got back home I took out the computer and apparently it was still on! (even though the lid was down). Obvioulsy my computer sleeve was hot and so was my computer. After a while, I tried re-starting it but it wouldn't respond. SO I was forced to press the start button. What happened and why wouldn't my computer sleep? What would you recomend me to do in these cases? And the fact that it was on while in the case, was this bad?
