What "Partitions" type should I use when I create an image in Disk Utility?

I have a Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder and have been creating images in Disk Utility to dump copies of my camcorders hard drive to. That way I can mount the disk image and import into iMovie just as if the camera was plugged in. These are the options I've been using:
Volume Size: varies
Volume Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Encryption: none
Partitions: Single partition - Apple Partition Map (the default I believe)
Image Format: read/write disk image
The option I'm not sure of and can't find much information on is Partitions. Up until now all the ones I've created use what I listed above. What is the difference between all the options (hard disk, cd/dvd, no partition, single partition - *multiple options*) and what should I be using to ensure long term compatibility with these disk images. Thanks.

You don't need the journaling feature. Everything else appears proper. As for the various formats, check DU's help files.

    Hi,
Yes, the Port can be a File Port (IDocs will be saved in this folder) or t-rfc port. File port should be OK.
    Partner Type can be LS.

You are either authoring/ transcoding wrongly or, assuming you refer to subpictures (buttons) looking rough around the edges, see normal behavior for a DVD. This has nothing to do with how the graphics are prepared in PS. In case one it's am ater of chosing the right settings, in case two it's a design limitation of the DVD(Video) specification. If you can tell us, what exactly you do and what program you use, we may be able to provide some tips.

  • What file type should i use for reading a large file of data?

I want to store data in a file and access them later. The data file could reach 500 to 1000 MBytes, as a binary file.
    I may have memory problems.
I do not need the whole data in memory, only a few data each time, for my calculations.
If i use a binary file, i can not read only a few data. I have to load the whole file and then read the data i need.
    Is this correct?
If i use another type of file, can i read only a few bytes without loading the whole file?
    Maybe a TDMS file?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would probably use a TDMS file for this since it could also be read into excel if it were small enough - just more flexiblility. But you can also do it using binary types. You don't have to read the entire file when using binary files. See below.

  • Which partition scheme should i use?

Hello guys (and maybe ladies), i am new to Linux and i have decided to set sail on an epic quest: Setting up a Linux desktop with Arch.
I have installed Arch few times on the main victim machine and on another laptop too, so i'm pretty much confident with most of the commands i run (through the forum captcha got me puzzled for a while, lol).
So, into the topic, i would like to gather suggestions on what partition scheme should i use, i have an 120GB Intel X25-M SSD i intend to install Arch on, RAM amount is 6 gigs.
From the wiki and forum reading i done so far, i came up with the following SSD torture plan:
    /dev/sdb1 -- root -- 25GB
    /dev/sdb2 -- /var -- 15GB
    /dev/sdb3 -- /home -- rest of the space, somewhere around 80GB
    All are btrfs.
I intend to install swap later on a rotating storage, or not.
    Arch wiki @ Btrfs :
"Do not use this filesystem yet unless you know what you are doing and are prepared for potential data loss."
I may not know what i'm doing, but as long as using a misconfigured system wont render my SSD a piece of salvageable material, i'm ready to test experimental/unstable/new features (except systemd) for the pursuit of performance, the precious bits of data are backed up and i'm ready to hold the wrench
Sorry for the long reading, any suggestions on the partition scheme? should i not use btrfs after all?
Bizzare, awkward or just special suggestions will be appreciated too, thanks in advance.
    And here's a third smile

I want to add my (different) setup here, too, to help you decide. My setup is:
    / 15G
    /boot 100M
    /var 10G
    /home rest(91G)
I also have two systems with seperate /usr, as I like it that way now, but that's a little advanced (though not hard, so if you want to learn, try it). Also, if you want to encrypt your system, make boot seperate as suggested by silentsnake.
But my most important suggestion if you like to experiment: use LVM. Allocate only limited space to your partitions. I suggest: 10G each, except 100M boot, if you keep /usr seperate, use 3G for root. LVM is really cool and very easy and highly flexible. And it gives you the possibility to add, remove and shift sizes around as you please - I love it! Just leave the free space you have hanging in the volume group and add it where it is needed. If you are feeling lucky or highly flexible, make /boot an LVM partition, but I don't recommend it: I do not see any benefit, only some possible issues.
As for swap: 6G is enough RAM - if you need swap later (e.g. hibernation) use a swap file (I don't, but I hear it's possible).
On your file systems: If you are into experimenting, you can choose whatever you like, but I doubt you will be unhappy in any way if you just choose ext3 (though Reiser seems like a nice idea for var).

  • What type should I use ? long Binary ??

    Hi everyone:
I want to use MySQL as my Database. But I come across a problem. MySQL have some data types like "long text ,  long binary ,  long blob, smallint " I know data type varchar is java String only. What java data type should I use according MySQL? For example : What is long binary in Java ? Is it Blob? Thks

Another thing you can do, is do a query with the fields in question, and then use
    Object o = ResultSet.getObject(i)
    System.out.println( o.getClass().getName());
to figure out what kind of class you should use.

  • Which chart should I use when I have data in degrees ?

which chart (i.e, pie, polar, radar)  should I use when I have data in degrees ?
I have a requirement that the data in one column contains degree/angle (i.e, 45degree,80 degree, 90 degrees)
now, I should show the data in a chart so that their should be colour variation. up to 45 degree should be one colour and the rest should be another colour.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi PrakashThandra,
According to your description, there is a column contains degree, you want to show data in chart, if degree is greater or equal to 45, it should be one color, the rest should be another color.
In Reporting Services, each chart type has unique characteristics to help us visualize our dataset. We can use any chart type to display our data, but the data will be easier to read when we use a chart type that is suitable to your data, based on what we
are trying to show in the report. In this case, we can use scatter chart, column chart and pie chart. To achieve your goal, please refer to the following steps:
In Pie chart, right-click the chart and click Series Properties.
Click Fill in left pane, click (fx) button and type the expression like below:
    =iif(Fields!Degree.Value>=45,"Green","Blue")
The following screenshots are for your reference:
For more information about chart types, please refer to the following document:

  • Which file type should I use and how I use it?

    Hello!
I need to create a file with some data that has been inserted manually.
In this file, for example, there are:
    ProjectName1: string1, string7… string10, date1
    ProjectName2: string11, string15… string20, date2
    ProjectNamek: string 100, string 116 … string 140, date1
I know only one thing: one of the strings.
What I need to find in the file:
I need to find the string at one of these rows and get its ProjectName and date.
For example: if I have string15,
I should find string15 in the file, and get its ProjectName and date:
    ProjectName2, date2
Which file type should I use and how I use it? What is the best solution?
    Thanks!

    Hi Thomasjewell,
Yes you can avail the discounted prices even you are upgrading the product just for two users. You can use the serial number for your Creative Suite 5 product.
You can follow the link: https://creative.adobe.com/plans in order to purchase Creative Cloud for Teams product.
Let me know if it works or not.

Did you try "CHAIN" or "SCHEDULER CHAIN"?
I suggest you change your thread subject to match your question and maybe one of the developer team members will notice it.
For example: What 'item type' do I use to add action to SCHEDULER CHAIN folder?
