What password is airport utility looking for to reset my wireless printer?

I have already posted about the failed connection with my brother wireless printer. I am trying to get airport utility to connect the IP address and it is asking for a password. Is that password the WPA pass key for the router. The wireless pin for the router  ?or some other password that three years ago created a connection between my printer and the router?

  • What password is Keychain Access looking for?

I recently opened Keychain Access and attemped to "show password" on one of my iCloud keychain entries. It asked for a password, and I typed my iTunes password, the only password I've ever used during iCloud keychain setup. It rejected this password, so I have no idea what it wants. I then verified that iTunes still accepts the iTunes password I've used for years.
I'm scratching my head here. Any suggestions what Keychain Access might be looking for here?
    Thanks.

I wound up resetting my iCloud keychain. This had more side effects than I'd anticipated (Mail can't log into Gmail, etc.) so I restored the Keychaind dir from Time Machine from a day or two before. After a reboot, Keychain app accepted my login password.
Not sure what was up originally, but all is as it shoudl be now.
    Thanks for all replies.

  • Looking for all-in-one wireless printer recommendation.

Running iPhone 5, iPad Air, MacBook with Snow Leopard and a PC running XP. Anyone???

    Need more info...
    Primarily for text?  For photos?
Is speed most important or quality?
    Price range???
For photos highly recommend Epson Artisan or its current replacement which may be called the Expression series.  All in one and wireless.   May not be speedy enough for text for you

You should contact the department of studies at the school and ask what types of application that you might have to use.  If there are Windows based ones, then you may have to consider installing Windows in your MBA or get a PC.  This could have an influence on the amount of storage the MBA should have.

  • HT3728 AIRPORT UTILITY IS UNABLE TO FIND ANY WIRELESS DEVICE 5.6.1

Ok So I have bought a 2TB Time Capsule, for the past few weeks we have been doing our backups on it etc and just using our already installed Netgear wireless router. Tonight I decided I would "extend an already existing wireless router" - after following all the steps etc and then clicking apply etc, the Airport Utility said that it would need to restart the time capsule etc. After about 5 mins and it looked like it had frozen, airport utility re-started and now all i get is:
"Airport Utility is Unable to find any wireless device. Make Sure the Airport Wireless Device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan"
I have clicked Rescan like 10 times
I have quit and restarted Airport Utility as well as my Mac OSX 10.5.8
I have pulled the Time Capsule plug out of it and restarted it
I have turned of my airport on my computer and turned it back on again
I have read a number of posts - yet nothing seems to give me any more options other than to rescan.

If you are trying to connect the Time Capsule to the Netgear router using a wireless only connection, Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature was designed to only work with other Apple routers. It is extremely unlikely that this setting would work with a Netgear product.
You will need to start over again and perform a Factor Default Reset on the Time Capsule and then re-configure it back to the original settings that you set up previously.

  • Airport utility asks for password every time?

I have to enter my password every time I use the Airport utility. I enter it and exit the app and as soon as I click on it again I have tomre-enter the password again!
I tried to reset the AirPort Extreme and iPad. It works fine with all my iPhone and Mac. I tried to delete the app and reinstall it. No joy!

Try the following on your MacBook Pro, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Airport utility asks for password after factory reset of Airport Extreme (spaceship), Why?

Hi,  I recently replaced my Airport Extreme (the older model shaped like a space ship, 802.11 b/g) with an Airport Express.  I tired to move the spaceship to a different room in my house to extend the wireless network, but it was not being recognized by the Airport Utility (v5.6).  So, I did a factory reset of the spaceship.  Now I can see it in Airport Utility, however when I try to configure it, the Airport Utility prompts me for a password.  It will not accept "public" as the password.  Any ideas?  Could keychains be the problem?  This is a 2009 MBP running 10.8.3.

    Great! Thanks for the update.
Out of morbid curiosity I went to my Mountain Lion Mac and downloaded AirPort Utility 5.5.3. I confirmed it will not install on Mountain Lion using OS X's usual package installer, but using the technique that follows I was able to install and run it on Mountain Lion. The only thing I could not verify is its ability to administer an older AEBS since I no longer have any to test.
The remainder of this post is for those who are willing to circumvent Apple's desire to use only current versions of AirPort Utility for reasons known only to them. Proceed only if you accept this as an unsupported workaround strictly for the purposes of administering an older Extreme on a newer Mac.
Prerequisites: A package extractor like Pacifist or unpkg will be required. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Download unpkg here: http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Download AirPort Utility 5.5.3 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1390
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
After the .dmg file finishes downloading double-click it to mount the volume containing the metapackage. Control-click it and select Open With > Pacifist from the contextual menu:
You will get the following dialog:
The "unidentified developer" in this case is Apple. Click Open to open Pacifist.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility.app and select it.
    The next steps are important.
Select Extract To... from the toolbar as in the above screenshot. In the dialog that follows, choose Desktop since otherwise you will overwrite your existing, newer version of AirPort Utility in your Utilities folder which should not be deleted. Restoring it may not be trivial.
Authenticate, allow Pacifist to extract the app, then you can quit Pacifist.
You will now have AirPort Utility version 5.5.3 on your Desktop. Before you attempt to copy it to your Utilities folder though, be sure to rename it accordingly:
You can then drag it to your Utilities folder. Authenticate, and you will have it alongside later versions where they can peacefully coexist:
Use the newest version AirPort Utility to administer current production AirPort Base Stations, and older versions only as necessary for older AirPort Base Stations that cannot be administered any other way.

  • Airport Utility asks for Password for Airport Extreme. Whaaa?

Found "Airport Utility" at Apple site today, and updated from "Airport Admin. Utility."
To do anything, it requests a password. Never had one or set one up for the Airport Extreme.
In Airport Utility, I tried resetting it and using "public" as the password, but that didn't work. I tried reconfiguring it and establishing the password through Airport Admin. and that didn't work.
At Airport Utility, it says I need to update from firmware 5.6 to 5.7, but I"m not sure if I'll just be mucking up the works if I can't go beyond the opening window without a password.
Anybody know how to work around this problem, please?

I suggest that you perform another "hard" reset of your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). It may take a few tries to make it "stick." This type of reset will erase the wireless encryption password and reset the base station administrator's password to the default: public.
If you are still being asked for a password and "public" does not work, you may need to go into the Keychain Utility to erase any previous passwords for your AEBS.

  • What "ethernet port" does airport utility use for "remote administration"

I have a friend who was recently evangelized to Macs and bought a Macbook Pro and an Apple Airport Extreme (gigabit) Router, hereinafter called AE. The place where he lives has cable modem internet access and an older Linksys wireless-G router for the building, and I am trying to configure his new AE, prior to making it the primary router in the network (e.g. connected to the cable modem).
When the AE is completely configured the Linksys will be retired.
I remotely manage and maintain the network and some other computers in that house. The Linksys is configured for Remote Administration so I can manage it. I manage several PC's and Macs using Timbuktu Pro 8, with the necessary ports forwarded through to TB2 on those machines.
I am trying to configure the Airport so it also can be managed remotely, so from a workstation on that network (accessed from where I am using TB2) and running Airport Utility, I have checked "Allow setup over WAN" on the Airport/BaseStation page. Now I would like to test whether I can connect and remotely administer that Airport Extreme from Airport Utility on my Mac.
I assume that, if I can rout packets from my Airport Utility here through the internet to the public IP of the Linksys router there, I should be able to connect. But I can't.
My setup is this. The target AE has its WAN port connected to an ethernet port on the Linksys, as is the LAN in the remote building. Nothing is connected to the AE's ethernet ports at this time. The Linksys is the DHCP server, and the AE has an IP from it, as does all the other ethernet- and wireless-connected computers, printers, etc. The AE's wireless is active and the wireless-connected devices in the building can connect to either its base station or to that of the Linksys. When the Linksys is retired the AE will be the only wireless in the building.
I attempt to connect in the following way: On my Mac, I run Airport Utility. From the file menu I select "Configure other" and enter the public IP address of the remote Linksys, and give AE's password. There is a long wait
Reading the Airport wireless device configuration....
while Airport Utility tried to discover AE, and then
An error occurred while reading the configuration..... (-6753)
I suspect that my remote connection problem is due to the fact that the AE is behind the Linksys, and the proper port forwarding is not in place on it to pass the Airport Utility's packets through to the Wan port of the AE. This might be that I have not entered into the Linksys the correct port number to forward on to the AE. I've tried the three numbers in the list:
"Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products" found at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1629
that are mentioned as possibly being involved with Airport Utility; 192, 4500 and 5009.
    Advice will be appreciated.
    Bob

One example, and there may be others, is the (free) DynDNS dynamic DNS service which publishes a domain name for the WAN port of your router which can then be resolved, like all other domain names, to the actual IP address of the WAn port of your router. This service provides a solution to the problem of having a proper domain name in cases where your public IP address changes over time. Unless you pay for a static IP address, virtually all ISPs change your public IP address over time.
So, you can register for a free DynDNS account at www.dyndns.com and that is how you come up with the User: and Password: information; use whatever User and Password you register at dyndns.com with.
The first part of the hostname you can define as you wish, subject only to someone else having used it previously, and the remaining parts of the domain name might be "dyndns.org" or one of the other domain names provided by the DynDNS service. So, you could publish, via DynDNS, the name of your public IP address as, for example, joehlam.dyndns.org however you might want something less descriptive or more vague.

  • What version of airport utility should I use for my airport express if I'm running Mountain Lion?, What version of airport utility should I use for my airport express if I'm running Mountain Lion?

I can't configure my airport express because I get a message stating I need to run an older version of airport utility to support itk but when I try and install the older version, I get a message stating it can't be installed because it isn't supported.  Help!

Unfortunately, Apple did not include support for older AirPort devices in the recent "upgrade" to Mountain Lion. A few conversations with Apple Support indicate that Apple has no plans to change this going forward.
If you have another Mac there running Lion or Snow Leopard...or even a PC...you can use that device to administer the older AirPort Express.
If that is not possilble....and you have been using Time Machine for backups of your Mac....you can try to go back in time to locate the earlier version of AirPort Utility and restore it to the desktop. Then, simply move the AirPort Utility application into the Utilites folder and will co-exist with AirPort Utility for Mountain Lion.
Apple does not support this type of thing of course, so you will be on your own if you want to try an "unsupported" procedure like this.

  • When they ask for the gateway address on the Tv what number is that or what number should I be looking for?

When they ask for the gateway numbers on the TV, what number is that or what should I be looking for? I am trying to connect my wifi network on my Samsung smart TV.

The "Gateway" address would be the Private (LAN-side) IP address of your Internet router. If you are using an AirPort base station for that router, the default gateway IP address would be: 10.0.1.1

  • What One Specification Should I Look for When Buying Optical 5.1 Speakers for the iMac 27" i7?

Hi. I have an analog 5.1 (it came from my previous PC setup) now but only the subwoofer works, the controller for its satellite speakers maybe have been busted by the high voltage from the outlet (I've since gotten a nice AVR). If replace it since the late 2009 iMac and Macs in general only do surround sound (5.1 or higher) if it's not analog. I've read somewhere that is should be digital or optical.
When I look for the specification that'll make this Mac do 5.1 surround, what should I look for in the speaker's specifications. I believe the non-analog 5.1 speakers are way more expensive, I'll probably buy one used but what brand and model can anyone recommend that's not that expensive, iMac/Mac compatible and will be easy to setup (you just plug it in into it's the headphone jack at the back) that'll do 5.1 on Lion and Snow Leopard (I have both installed for backup OSes and experiments). Thank you in advance.

  • Do I have to have an app to print wirelessly for my 3g? If so what app should I be looking for??

Does anyone know if I have to buy an app to print wirelessly for my 3 g phone? If so - what app is reccommended.  I have a hp photo smart printer d110 series?

If your priinter is on the list from this document from Apple http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356 then the printer just needs to be connected to your network wirelessly, then you would just follow the rest of the directions from the link I gave you. If it is not on the supported list, then you would need to look at an app, and I have read a lot about Printopia.

  • What do you look for when buying a new printer?
