What photo organizational system do you use if you are importing with LR?

I am struggling with a hodgepodge collection of 1000's of photos!! Most are organized into Year/Month Folders or Events Folders. However, even within those folders, it is impossible to quickly access a particular photo. (Did I mention that I have 1000's and 1000's?) I would like to use keywords, but thought that I may have to take everything out of all folders. I am not a paid professional, though I am starting to do particular sessions for my son's sporting events ( so I need to locate team mates shots) and family. ( New Grandbabies!) I also do series of other shoots. Can anyone please help me with a transitional solution? I have Bridge, LR5 PS6 and CC Thank you kindly in advance!! Cynthia

I got this message after importing about ten or so H.264 files that I encoded from Adobe media encoder. "adobe encore the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decoders for the file you are working with may help correct the problem."
The files we're shot with HD cameras. Edited in Premiere Pro CS3. I installed the update 3.0.1 with still the same error.
I also tried a brand new project and after about ten or so files being imported into a timeline, the system crash. I tried this twice....

       Here is the skinny. A window base PC. footage shot with HD sony HD cameras, Project imported to Premiere CS3. Once completed sent file to Adobe media encoder and render them as H.264 widescreen high Quality. Imported them to Adobe Encore CS3. After about ten files or so. I got the error message. Did all the basic trouble shoot like restarting the computer, got latest patch. Even build a new test project with the same problem.
    Something else I read in the forums, is the encore will transcoded the project to Mpeg 2 anyway, after looking at my project I realized those few files were indeed untranscoded. So it will be a double compression and I dont want that. So, my new question is, what is H.264 good for ?????????? I was research that Mpeg 2 is a faster render but H.264 is a slower render but better quality.....
   what do you think ????

There is no support for mirroring or syncing iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries. You can however export partial Aperture libraries on one mac and merge them into other libraries on a second Mac.
To transfer your edited photos open your photolibrary in Aperture and and collect the edited photos in an album. Then select the album and use the command "File export > Album as new library". This will export all edited photos as a new Aperture library. Copy this library to your other Mac and import it with "File < Import > Library to your other photolibrary on that computer (assuming you are having the same Aperture version on both macs). When merging the new library into your Aperture library, opt to keep the newer versions from the imported library. iPhoto 9.5.1 will be able to open these merged Aperture 3.5.1 libraries.

If it says you are synced with another computer, you are synced with another computer. The only alternative is you have wiped and reloaded the computer that you normally sync with, essentially making it a new computer.

How can you do picture in picture when you are working with a Multicam clip?

Im doing a drumming music video and with the multi cam clip all the angles are nicely sync'd top the audio.
Problem is if i want to have 3 angles on top of the main shot, im gonna have to re-sync them all to get them to line up manually. If i could use the multi cam clip they will already be aligned

What photo album software do you recommend for CS4 and/or CS5?

I want to do pagination, design and layout in CS4 (multiple photos per page, text, etc.) to create printable albums. These albums could be either social event or documentary purposed.
Many such photo album software programs are proprietary which obliges you to use a specific printer or lab. Are there stand alone photo album software programs out there, CS4/5 which allow you to create photo albums and then print your own albums or use a vender of choice to print your albums?
I've seen everything from $29 thru $400, and some which are priced beyond $800.
What is your favorite photo album software for CS4 and/or CS5?

It sounds like you are trying to create scrapbook pages ... if so then its quite easy just to create them yourself using Photoshop. You can purchase scrapbooking kits which will give you all the background papers and elements that you need to add to your page. There are also many free kits around ... a quick google search will show you lots of them
Sets of the pages can then be uploaded to sites that will print out a book ...

What is backed up if you are using iTunes and Windows

I am wondering what is backed up.
Music can restore from iTunes but what about calendar and contacts and photos if they were manually created on the phone. Are they stored someplace during sync and then can be restored?
Where might this info be stored on the PC if I were to have data backups and want to include this data in the backup?

If you are syncing everything with your computer then nothing will be lost. Everything that is created on the iPhone should be syncing to your computer.

[Solved]gnome-system-tools You are not allowed access to sys config

I did a FTP install of i686 Arch Linux on a friend's machine. I could not get gnome-system-tools to work, keep getting:
The configuration could not be loaded
You are not allowed access to the system configuration
So, I tried gnome-system-tools on an i686 Arch install on my machine, and gnome-system-tools worked. Then I did a pacman -Syu and fully updated the system. The updates included udev which now prints how long udev events took on boot up. After the updates, gnome-system-tools no longer works. Same symptoms as the new install.
Both machines have stbd in the /etc/rc.conf DAEMONS line. Both the user and root in both machines are part of the stb-admin group. Using gksu or launching as root in a terminal window results in the same problem. The problem seems to be in system-tools-backends which works in conjuntion with dbus as I get this error:

gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends are part of the community group, so as far as I know, writing a bug report is out. Both gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends are out of date in community. system-tools-backends is version 2.4.1 and the current version is 2.6.0. I tried using makepkg to compile the new 2.6.0 version of system-tools-backends but it fails saying it needs dbus >= 1.1.2 but version of dbus is 1.0.2. So it appears that dbus is out of date also. That is a far as I got.
I know this has been a problem in the past, but I got it working until this latest update.
Anyone got any ideas on this?

By this time the lateness of the hour, and the current frustration level caused me to quit for the night and write this thread. I am fairly sure I did NOT rebuild the current system-tools-backends.
Anyway, deleting gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends, then rebuilding the current version of both gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends fixed the problem. Be sure to follow the post installation comments from system-tools-backends.
I wrote a bug report in the AUR.

I've had the same problem with my users-admin and users-time... I've tried all the fixes from most of these posts... except for that string of code that someone wrote in this post: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=42910

I wasn't sure what this string actually would do, so I haven't tried it yet. I figured there would be an easier way of fixing this problem. Like a simple edit in the SystemToolsBackends.pl file.....
