What photo printer are you all using with iPhoto '08?

What brand and model of printer are you all using or would recommend for use with iPhoto '08?
I've been reading reviews on HP, Epson, Canon... my head is starting to spin. Thoughts?

CrashPlanPROe, the enterprise version, is $60 per year per client, not $50 per month, so it may be worth looking into. It's what we run and it's been working very well for us, though you need a central server to run the software. That server can be Windows, Mac OS X, Linux or Solaris, any of which will work with any of the supported clients:

We tried Retrospect and had to return it for the limitation I mentioned above.

  • What flash version are you all using? (RE:Browsing and Performance)

    Curious if anyone is having any luck sticking to older versions of Flash or earlier versions of firefox/safari/camino?
    My Powerbook is mainly a browsing/reading machine now, but even the odd embedded clip will take ages to load, and playing simple games on youplay will push the cpu usage pretty high...

    My Firefox uses Flash V10.0 r12 and works fine.

  • What 802.11N or Pre-N network cards are you successfully using with AEN?

    In particular, I'm using a Belkin Pre-N router & PCcard with a Windows XP notebook. Have any of you tried that card with the AE(N)?
    Have you been successful with any other mfr's PCcard with the AE(N)?
    Thanks.

    Peter,
    You have a very confusing situation. Try to simplify the network to isolate the issue. Turn off everything but one airport and the Mac Pro. Does it connect successfully? Does it SEE the network (even if its not connected)? Might it be an issue with encryption?
    My advice is to start as simple as possible: 1 computer, 1 base station, no encryption. Channel shouldn't matter too much if the Airport base stations are set for the US. The base station sets the channel, the computer simply tunes into whatever channels the base station is using.
    If the simplest set up works, change ONE thing at a time until it DOESN'T work. Add encryption. Add the second base station. Still works? Move so that you're now at the OTHER base station (the slave) instead of the master. Still works? Turn the other computer on. Keep testing until it breaks.
    Good luck,

  • Still on the fence about the Nano?  Are you all happy with yours?

    Hi,
    Is there a certain week number I should look for when buying the Nano like week 38 (that was mentioned for the Touch model before). I know some have had problems with a slanted screen as well.
    How about the sounds is it pretty good? I saw one in the store yesterday but they didn't have earbuds out for it. I'm still between this and the Classic but obviously want good performance so will sacrifice space for that in the end. Are there still bugs with this one?
    S.

    I'm pretty happy with my 3G Nano so far. I got it about a week ago shipped from China (got it engraved from Apple). But my prior iPod was an original 1G 5GB iPod. So it's about 1/6th the size and has over 50% more capacity than what I'm used to. Battery life is a lot longer as well. The things I was looking forward to was the ability to view video and photos on a TV. So I'm most disappointed that Apple has locked the video out functionality. Only one reason makes sense for why they did that, and that is to stick it to their licensees so Apple can charge higher licensing fees for 3rd party iPod video devices. That decision can only frustrate and annoy iPod owners--expecially since even Apple isn't yet selling their own video-enabled cables yet (you can't find them in Apple retail stores and they're backordered for weeks on the Apple store.com).
    My screen is mounted straight (In fact I haven't personally seen any crooked ones), and I've started subscribing to video podcasts and have been very impressed with the viewing quality on the 2" display. It's not that much smaller than the Classic, and though I would have loved the larger iPod Touch display, I just couldn't justify double the price.
    The included games are okay. I probably wouldn't buy any new ones since the Nano is so small and the touchwheel is so low on the iPod that it cramps my hand to use it for extended time needed for a game, but that's just me.
    I've heard the coverflow has issues on the Nano. But so far, I haven't encountered either the problem with coverflow lag or cover jumbling. As far as I can tell, since I've populated all the relevent track tages in iTunes they seem to group as expected for all my music.
    Probably the second thing I'd criticize the Nano on would be the storage capacity. I was hoping for 10-16GB when Steve announced them. 8GB is a bit cramped for anyone who seriously wants to utilize it for music, photos and videos in my opinion. But I think I'll give iTunes synchronization a try and see how it goes (I've always managed my prior iPod manually) as far as maintaining a fresh source of podcasts to keep me interested.
    Overall. The sound quality seems great. I'm not hyper-sensitive, so I don't hear any extra hiss in the audio at all. Though I've read that there are some audio-dropout problems once you start sync'ing photos onto the Nano (but I haven't gotten around to installing photos yet)
    I'm sure there will be more software updates for the Nano in the future, I wish Apple provided some way to customize the view when an audio track is playing. I'd much rather have more song info displayed along with a head-on square view of the cover art, but I'd be surprised if any significant interface changes like that are ever introduced.
    I must say, the Nano looked a bit odd when I first saw it online, but in person, it's really the nicest tiny iPod ever in my opinion.

  • Are you all using java 5?

    I am still using java 1.4 but does everyone else use java 5?
    I was told that there is no need to update to java 5, since 1.4 is used in most companies anyway

    > > I just made a Vector in 1.5 with:
    >>
    Vector v = new Vector();
    Vector is a bit out of date, and it's generally better to declare your variable type as a List.
    Program to an interface, not an implementation
    > The compiler can optionally generate a warning on
    this that it is not a generic type. Then the compiler
    compiles it as if is was coded as:
    Vector<Object> v = new Vector<Object>();
    The compiler only compiles it that way if you write it that way. The use of generics is assistance only for the compiler. The compiler doesn't "add" types for you.
    Vector v1 = new Vector();
    v1.add(new Object());      // unchecked/unsafe operation
    Vector<Object> v2 = new Vector<Object>();
    v2.add(new Object());      // no warning
    > The benefit of using generic types is that it
    eliminates typecasting when retrieving elements:
    There are other benefits as well; e.g., the type-checking mentioned above.
    > Vector<Integer> v=new Vector<Integer>();
    >
    v.add(new Integer(1));
    v.add(new Integer(2));
    v.add(new Integer(3));
    v.add(new Integer(4));
    Let's not forget about varargs and autoboxing... ;o)
    List<Integer> numbers = Arrays.asList(1, 2, 3, 4);
    > in Java 1.4:
    >
    System.out.println( ( (Integer)(v.elementAt(2))).intValue() );
    Why so verbose? In 1.4:
    System.out.println(v.get(2));And in 1.5:
    System.out.println(v.get(2));Not much difference there.
    > Or use [i]forall
    for(Integer i : v)
    System.out.println(i.intValue());I think Sun refers to it as a "foreach", but that's just quibbling. But again, why the extraneous method call? Save yourself some typing and keep your code clean, especially since you're using the new syntax:
    for (int i : v) {
        System.out.println(i);
    }~

  • Local Backups - What are you all using?

    We are looking for an opiton for local backup of clients workstations. Sure in some places we don't bother backing up clients stations but we often need to. Having a backup drive on each system gets a bit impractical, Retrospect is dead, and Time Machine via OSX Server hasn't worked with it's meany issues.
    There has got to be a backup product out there to allow a system to be backed up to a NAS or Drive attached to a server that is as simple as CrashPlan or TimeMachine but that actually work and don't cost $50/month for a system.
    Thoughts?

  • N8-00 What the hell are you all complaining ...

    I got my phone for 12 days now and is a very happy customer.
    Most of my mates have Htc Desire or Samsung Galaxy or i-phone. Not one of them have a truly perfect phone to do everything. In fact everyone has some gripes and frozen application at one time or another. None of them are using a true multi tasking processor like the current intel chips or amds in current pcs.
    So I accept my phone with the current limitations of mobile phone technology.
    Indeed I am perhaps lucky?
    My phone have not crash since I reinstall using the ovi sync software. Everyone compliments on how good the phone connection is! The web surfing is so easy and attentive to asking which server it should be connected when I am at other unfamiliar places.
    Sure, my N8-00 is never going to impress the kids with imaginative and eye catching animations available only from the i-phone but what the N8-00 does for practicality is truly great. Next time for those with barrages of complaints (real or fakes quite likely from competitors I believe), try competing brand phones in real life situations and places, not just at the shop!  The Nokia is genuinely a very dependable smartphone.
    The only other person I know who also has a Nokia N8-00 is so contended with his phone after getting used to it. Cheers Nokia!
    Sydney, NSW

    I'm am genuinely really glad to hear that there are in fact happy N8 owners.
    When my currently dead N8 gets replaced I hope to join you in your words of praise! Until then all I have to go on is my experiences so far & they ain't good. I don't work for any other phone manufacturer & up until now have had no interest in owning either a HTC or iPhone, let s see how i get on with the new unit once it comes off of backorder. If it's good I'll sing it's praises also, if it's bad i'm off else where.
    Hope your experiences continue to be good ones.

  • Which USB external disk are you successfully using with TC?

    I've seen various posts about attaching an external USB disk to the TC. Some people have been successful and others have had problems. I have tried 2 different disks without success.
    The first disk (Seagate 300GB) went into sleep mode after not being used for a while and the TC couldn't wake it up! The second disk (Maxtor One Touch 300GB) worked most of the time but had problems when importing lots of pictures into iPhoto. iPhoto would complain it couldn't find files part way through the import (like it had lost the connection to the disk). Both of these disks work fine with a Linksys NSLU2.
    If anyone has had success with an external USB disk could they please post the make, model and capacity?
    Thank you.

    It helps to 'wrap' URLs with code so they don't run off the screen, using UUB or HTML.... but that is minor for now.
    Easier to search "ST94811U2-RK"
    http://www.seagate.com
    However I get "not found" on that drive. Your link comes up with "ST3300601U2-RK" There are some USB2 only PB 300GB drives listed.
    I tend to stick to non-vendor drives, rather than Maxtor or WD or Seagate etc. Anything with Oxford 911+ or above work well with Macs.
    http://www.macsales.com/firewire/
    And avoid USB2 drives and get one with FireWire (and USB2), your drive should be formatted as GUID - check the drive (not volume or partition) in Disk Utility. It is changed by reformatting in Disk Utility: Partition -> Options.... (at bottom of screen) and there will be three options, you want GUID (not MBR).
    Is it bus powered or does it have its own power supply?
    It seems that your drive is older discontinued model?

    I  am a computer newbie?!!! I had not owned a computer device of any any sort.( I know in this day and age) and I received an iPad 2 as a gift. I think my friends were tired of me asking to use their computer to receive e mail ,etc. Any way, questions galore!!! I do not even have an Internet connection in my house!! Which is best.  ALSO which WIRELESS HEADPHONES  for when I go to the gym? Thanks for your help!!!!

    Wireless headsets, in my opinion, never work as well as I would like. Motorola makes some designed for athletic use. I'd check reviews on Amazon. You're really going to take an iPad to the gym?!?

  • What photo printers are compatible with iPhoto '08?

    On Apple's support site, they list the printer drivers that Leopard comes with, but I'm finding that just because Leopard comes with the driver, that doesn't necessarily mean the printer is compatible with iPhoto... unless my research has mislead me.
    What iPhoto-compatible printers are you all using, or which photo printers do you recommend?

    Hi when I open iPhoto it's says "What photo library do you want to use" Have I lost all my photos? I don't know what to do here can anyone help please?

    Is there an item named "iPhoto Library.photo library" or similar in your "Pictures" folder, showing with an icon like a fan of pictures?
    Or did you store your iPhoto Library in a different folder, perhaps on an external drive?
    if you cannot find your iPhoto Library search for it with Find Any File, as described  by Old Toad in this post:
    Re: My iphoto library has disappeared. How do I find it?

    Re: My iphoto library has disappeared. How do I find it?in response to onpurpose
    Download and use Find Any File to search for a file named "iPhoto6.Library".  It's a file unique to all iPhoto libraries.
    FAF an search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, packages and system files.  If there's another iPhoto library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

    Hi Ken,
    Thanks for the reply. The project I am working on is a test project for a customer. They could potentially want a number of their educational subjects presented as an interactive text book. The intent of this first project with them is to establish a logical workflow that will allow us to efficiently estimate costs and allow for review throughout the design process. Having worked with customers on creative projects in the past I can anticipate that they will want a number of changes made once they see a working version of the interactive text book.
    It is a grim reality that no project can be fully edited and planned prior to working on it and I know revisions and changes are always made once the customer can see their product. It is ok with me if there is no easy way to pass the text back and forth from the customer and me without having to reformat everything but I just want to know that is the way it works in order to provide a realistic time estimate for the project.
    My hope was I would be able to export the formatted text, allow them to make edits and then reimport that formatted text. The style sheets I am using are from one of the iBooks Author templates.
    Do you know if there is a way to use (or export ) this style sheet so it can be used in a Pages Document?
    Or, would the best option be to have the customer install iBooks Author? This would require the customer to have a mac and the software so it doesn't work for all cases.
    Another idea I was considering would be to export the book as a PDF and have the customer add markup and notes to the PDF.
    All of these options do not seem too great to me.
    I am open to any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • When I now open I Photo it asks "What photo Library do you want i photo to use?  Never did this before.

    What happened?  I have beed using iphoto to download scanned photos - all of a suddent it asks, "What photo lib do you want i photo to use?"   Never had to do this before and nothing is available to choose?  Where did the old lib go?

    I have the same issue with the Library of a friend. All of the sudden appeared the same message "What photo library...?" He chose the one already used and now doesn't appear the latest photos he has already added and edited. As far as I know, he hasn't deleted any other library. Neither Time Machine has a backuo of the latest photos. Weird stuff.

    But all the adjustments that you apply in Lightroom, if you do not export to a rasterized format, will be inaccessible.  You'll still have your catalog file, for if you want to re-inlist in the future, but it won't do anything for you without Lightroom.  The same thing will go for Photoshop files like PSD, but obviously if you save to standard image formats you'll be fine.
    It's one of the issues that keeps me away from the plan.  Not being able to edit individual files in PS is one thing, but Lightroom is a photo organization system.  I don't want to rent the system I use to organize 10s of thousands of files.
