What photoshop product creates thumbnails?

What product do I need to create thumbnails for our web?

Photoshop's batch function is notoriously slow for this kind of work, I found. If you are working on a Windows machine I recommend IrfanView, which has a fast and simple batch command to process large numbers of images into thumbnails. It also has resizing options to resize to a width or height, the long side or the short side, and so on. Irfanview batch command can also perform most common batch tasks, such as adding canvas, auto cropping, add an overlay text and/or watermark, auto adjust the colours, and so on.
It is many, many times faster than Photoshop's batch processing and much more reliable in my experience (with Photoshop's batch regularly stopping for no real reason).

And best of all: it's free!

I have a lot of old photographs. I want to be able to scan them, touch them up and digitise them. I am a total novice at photo editing. What photoshop product is best suited to help me do this?
I am looking for something simple that has some functionality for re-sizing, improving etc. Does not have to be overly complicated of professional.

Photoshop Elements is a good program for this purpose.
There is a learning curve, but if you get stuck you can get  help here on the forum from experienced users.

I have a new iMac and would like to buy a cheap legal version of Photoshop to create a simple flyer.  If I look on ebay or similar, what version do I require?
I understand that Photoshop 5 is not compatible?
I used to use CS5 at work which was very good, doing a little reserach it appears as if this suite has been replaced by a monthly 'cloud' charge which for me as a basic home user is unnecessary.
    Appreciate any help.

    Hello Simonlala;
Anyone that buys an iMac should not have to buy "cheap".  it's like putting "retread tires" on a brand new Farrari! Ugh!
To find a cheap version of PS is to locate an obsolete version only?  Software surplus business may have some or check the obituary columns to see if any Photographers or Gaphic Designers have left some things behind?
Some options...enroll in a community college Multimedia class and you will not only have access to Photoshop, you'll have access to much more software for the price of the course.  It will also qualify you as a student and you can get a discounted rate on the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription as well.
If you are only making "simple flyers" would not MS Word or OpenOffice software do the job for you?  There are applications for that purpose and Photoshop is not the only way to skin this cat!  Or you can always buy a box of Crayola's and make a pamphlet that way?
And as a bonus, you may learn something from the course you enroll in.
I am a student and subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud...it's reasonable for my purposes for now.

  • What is the fastest way to create thumbnails in CS6?

    Hi All...
I wanted to know if there is a certain way you can take larger images and have them shrink down to a thumbnail size in an automated fashion?  Instead of having to load each image and change the dimensions and export the image as a thumbnail?  I'm using Web Premium CS6 and also have Lightroom 4.  There must be a less tedious method to create a small size and a large size image...
    Any thoughts?

You can do this easily using Actions and Batching in Photoshop CS6.
Here are two video tutorials on how to do this in CS6, specifically for creating thumbnails; using actions and batching actions. The guys is a little long-winded but is very comprehensive.
And here's an article on how to do the same thing. It's from 2007 but explains the process nicely.

Open your iPhoto Library, go to that particular album and verify that you can view the full sized version of each image by double clicking on them.  Report back with the results.

  • What Photoshop version or Product is right for my needs.

I run a Non-Profit organization, we started as a Off-Road Club, that wanted to start doing charity events and Off-Road type search and rescue. Basically we do events that take people into the middle of nowhere and teach safety and survival tips and training, and we do charity type events for taking challenged or under-privileged family and people out to teach off-roading and or camping also.
One of the biggest things we do is search and rescue in areas that normal rescue and law enforcement teams and vehicles cant access due to terrain and conditions like weather or no roads, most of us run highly modified 4x4 vehicles that can access any area, no matter the conditions or weather, a lot of the work relates to helping stranded people, hunters, hikers, campers, or people that try and take a stock luxury Suv on roads that they don't belong on in that type of vehicle, or during tornados, blizzards, or floods in Northern Wisconsin and Upper peninsula Michigan. What I would need the software for as the president and owner, is for photo evidence of conditions during rescues, and photos of rescues, and photos of charity events, I also make up mail-out bulletins to get new members and or volunteers, also packets with photos are used for getting supporters and donations.
So I don't need professional editing of photos, but I do need editing that looks good and makes us look professional, I do know my way around a computer, but I am not a expert.
So my questions stands with asking, what Photoshop software is right for my needs, because I don't want to spend money on software I don't need???
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I recommend Photoshop Elements, as that is designed for beginners and hobbiest in mind. In a sense, it holds your hand until you feel comfortable. I don't use that app, so I can not say on how much it holds your hand. I can only resite, what I have read.
That being said, I also do not know how much vector tools are in that app. Vector tool will help tremendously as they can make quick work out of doing flow chart type graphics, as in outline of bodies, arrows pointing to the location, lines showing paths or roads, and other hand made graphics that describe the area.
The reason for vector graphics, is they are scalable and do not take up as much ram or drive space. Don't get me wrong, raster tools (paint type tools) can be useful in doing the same thing, but they are a bit harder to alter, scale(especially larger), etc.
Therefore, Elements is great for learning, but professionally, Photoshop, illustrator and lightroom. So keep that in mind, when the time comes.

  • Photoshop 10 Orginizer with Win7 takes 20 hrs to create thumbnails, why?

Why does it take 20 hours for my thumbnails to create when I startup my program?

Creating thumbnails is a background task with low priority, but that should not prevent you to work immediately, as the thumbnails for the current display grid are created in priority.
The first time thumbnails are created (after import or restore), that means all your media files should be read and the thumbnail saved. That depends on the size of your library : number of items, library size in Gbytes.
If you meet the problem each time you open the organizer, then it helps generally to delete the thumbnail cache and let it be created when you open the organizer.
Find the catalog folder : Menu Help / system info. That folder may be hidden by default, set Windows to show hidden folders. Delete the file 'thumbs.5.cache' and restart the organizer and let it rebuild the cache. That may take a long time, but only the first time you open the organizer.

  • PSE unable to create thumbnails after Album Starter removed

My sister accepted the upgrade to Adobe Reader 8.0 and said Photoshop Album Starter was automatically loaded on her computer with that upgrade. When she had difficulty working with it, we found some instructions for unloading it, which she did. However, then her problems "really" began. Several pictures on her Desktop were renamed with the PDF file extension, and their thumbnails were totally black. Her "Pix" folder on her Desktop and all the pictures she had in it, plus other pictures stored on her Desktop, disappeared into her Recycle Bin. I restored these files and the folder back to her Desktop, but many of these also had the black thumbnails, or black thumbnails with a thin stripe of colors mixed in with the black across the top. We could still open the pictures, which was a blessing, at least.
However, things became worse as we discovered that ALL new files created with Photoshop Elements (she has both 3.0 and 1.0 and both responded the same way) will no longer create thumbnails. I opened one of the corrupted-thumbnail photos and copied the layer into a new Photoshop Elements document and saved the file with a new filename and a PSD extension thinking that would give us back a file with a thumbnail. Wrong. Still got a black thumbnail. Tried saving as a JPG; still no go. I then selected New and created a totally new document. Same result; no thumbnail. So I created new documents in her Corel Painter IX and Microsoft Paint to see if this was just an "Adobe" thing, and these other programs had no problem creating normal thumbnails with saved documents. So, it's obviously just an Adobe thing.
My only thought at this point is that unloading Adobe Album also deleted or corrupted a shared Adobe file that allows Adobe products to create thumbnails. I suggested that she try reloading her Photoshop Elements programs to see if that brings back the ability to create thumbnails.
Sorry for the long background, but does anyone out there know how to get Photoshop Elements to start creating thumbnails again after getting rid of Album? I'd be ever so grateful if you could help us out!
    Marilyn Lee

Hey, Marilyn, I found an answer! Well, this doesn't "fix" the problem, but it does allow you to work around it. There is a program (shareware) called "Thumbnail View," and you can find it at the address below.
    http://www.seriema.net/thumbview/index.php...e=download_lite
It worked for me, and my computer's not very new. I can now see PSD thumbnails where before there was just a little icon. Best of luck.

  • Import Images into slide show - Creating Thumbnail images -Hang

I am using iDVD 7. I imported my images into a slideshow. The pictures were not in iPhoto but just a folder that I created and edited in Photoshop. Once I import the images, the window shows all the file names as expected but all the Image Thumbnails are blank and the top of the window there is a message "+Creating thumbnail images... (32 remaining)+" with a spinning wheel next to the message. This message stays there forever. The 32 is the number of images in the slideshow. I can do most things in iDVD while this is going on, but I cannot add the audio I want.
What is causing this and can I get it to stop?

To add to this I decided to remove the slideshow and now import the pictures from iPhoto. I can only get ride of the message by closing iDVD down. When I relaunch iDVD the message is gone. When I now import the pictures from iPhoto the same thing happens where it hangs on creating thumbnail images.

  • Creating Thumbnails for web page links to larger images.

I want to create thumbnail images for linking to web page linking to enlargements. I'm using PhotoShop Elements 2.0 on a Dell 2400, XP Home Edition with 512mb RAM and 35gb storage available.
The language I read in help sections doesn't addressed the issue I want help with. I believe it addresses saving thumbnails for Windows and Mac using .tiff or .psd format, not the .jpg or .gif I need. It seemed like there should be a way to change the thumbnail format. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Ted,
You can use the ' Web Photo gallery ' as Jodi suggested for a large
    number of images or,
Open your image, click the bar at the top of the displayed image &
reset the size to what you want, then 'File', 'Save for Web' & save as
.jpg or .gif. .jpg gives more options for reducing file size so that
is what I use. Close the image without saving
    HTH,
    Alex,

  • What is "date created" and why does it change?

I have Photoshop Elements 10 that I am using with Windows XP  Service Pack 3, a Pentium 4 CPU with 3 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 48.6 GB of free disk space.
None of the "dates created" in Properties  match the date the picture was taken. What does "Date Created" represent? Is it the date that the images are pulled into a catalog in Organizer?
I have multiple catalogs that show creation dates that are later than the date modified, (example: date created of June 2012 and a date modified of March 2012). How is it possible that the date created is later than the date modified? Shouldn't the date created be earlier than the date modified?
Also, I have had several instances in which the date created was changed again, making the system think it was a "new" image in my watched folders. Shouldn't the Date Created remain constant?  How can I keep the date created from being changed?
