What playlists are my songs in?

I noticed that one of my songs on iTunes wasn't on my iPod so I looked and found out that it wasn't in a playlist.  That got me wondering how many other songs weren't in playlists but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to find out without individually going through each song.  (Why they can't have a 'Playlist' option along with the 'date added' and 'artist' options I don't know!).  Anyway, is there an easy way to do this?  Using 11.0.1.12 if that helps.  Thanks.

Create a new playlist folder called, say My Playlists. Drag all the playlists/playlists folders that "count" as your playlists into it. Create a smart playlist matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not My Playlists. The resulting playlist consists of the tracks that aren't in any of your playlists.

  • What playlist is this song in

Did it used to be easy to tell if a song was in a playlist. I know in addressbook you just clicked option on a contact and all the groups it was in would hightlight. Very cool, very Apple. I thought you could do the same thing in iTunes. Now iTunes has changed so much, I cant find that option. I have 11.1.3. There should be a very easy way to tell what playlists a song is in.........shouldnt there.

its there you have to control click. How hard would it me to make it like Addressbook. I would rather hit option have have playlists highlight to show you what playlists have this song in it, rather than, give you the option to add it to the "Up Next" list. I dont use iTunes like that. I play the whole playlist. But then I am 52, not 12 and go more for practical use. I feel Apple is morphing more and more like a PC. More and more clicking.

  • What exactly are Upcoming Songs & how does iTunes determine them?

I've never really bothered with Party Shuffle before but it always bugged me when it gave the message about Upcoming Songs. I mean, what is an upcoming song? How does iTunes decide it's upcoming?
    Regards,
    spriter

Upcoming Songs are tracks in Party Shuffle that have not yet been played. You can set how many upcoming songs are visible, but this setting does not determine how many upcoming songs there are.
Party Shuffle is like selecting Shuffle for the Library or any playlist except that you can alter the results. You can add or delete tracks and you can manually reorder the upcoming tracks in Party Shuffle. You can also tell Party Shuffle to play higher rated songs more often.
Regular shuffle stops once every track in the playlist has been played, but Party Shuffle will continue playing, adding repeat tracks when needed.

  • My smart playlists are duplicating songs

I have my smart playlist set to live update and include anothing with a media kind that is music. The playlist is duplicating certain, but not all, purchased songs on that playlist but is only doing so on my iPhone. On my computer the playlists list the songs correctly. Both songs on my iPhone play.
I've tried removing all music and then adding it back on but that didn't work. I've also tried resetting the sync terminal. Does anyone have a fix for this?

This is happening to me as well.

  • What Playlists is this song in?

Any way in itunes to show which playlists a certain song is in?
Example: I am listening to Springsteen's "Thunder Road" and I know it is in several playlists and there was one playlist that I really liked. Any way to know/show all of the playlists where a given song appears?
    Thanks!
    MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

control-click (or right-click) on the song and pick "Show in Playlist"

  • What playlists is a song in?

is there a way to determine what playlists contain a specific tune?

Control-click on the track you want to know about. You should see an item titled "show in playlist" which will list all the playlists of which that track is a member.
    Regards.

  • Viewing what playlist songs are assigned to

Is there anyway to view a song and know what playlist(s) that song has been assigned to? I have a lot of songs in my library yet when I go to look for a certain one on my iPod it will not be there because I have not put it into a playlist. I have played with the view settings but so far have not figured out a way to do what I am wanting to do. Has anyone ever tried this before?

Right click (control+click if using a one button mouse) on the song and go to "Show in Playlist", any playlists the song is in will be displayed.

  • ITunes match:  my iPhone 4s shows my playlists, but there are no songs!  What's up?

iTunes match:  my iPhone 4s shows my playlists, but there are no songs!  What's up?

    Normal Playlists should be working
Smart playlist should be working, but i got also some faulty PL on the played recents etc..
Smart playlists depending on other smart playlists don't work all the time.
ok I had my troubles aswell with this - during the holidays I reserved some time to rebuild my iphone from scratch. Just to clean it up after 1,5 years working and playing around with it. And suprrise surpise, playlists, songs, etc... all info on the iphone showed correctly and worked well!
So after rebuilding from scratch (took my a couple of hours) i can now start playing around with itunes match.
I know, its a lot of work, but i think my iphone structure was a bit messed up with all this playing around.
    Perhaps this helps...

  • Seeing what songs are in what playlists

Although there are a few dicussions about this, I can't seem to understand the solution to it. So the question is, is it possible to see what songs are in what playlists and whether there are any songs not in a playlist, so I can organise them into one?
    Thanks.

You want something like this, where the Not in All Playlists smart playlist is not inside the All Playlists folder, but everything else that you want included is.

  • How do I easily find out what playlist my songs are in?

I'm an iTunes novice and have about 3000 songs on my computer. I've put most of them on playlists but compared some numbers and discovered that there are a couple hundred stragglers that I haven't put on playlists.
Is there a way to quickly/easily see what playlist my songs are in? It would be great to have a "view" option column showing playlists. I know I can right-click on each individual song and do "show in playlist," but that's a real pain in the neck when you're dealing with thousands of songs.
    I'm open to any suggestions!

    Welcome to AD!
All I can think of, is a smart playlist 'match all' where
    playlist is not playlist1
    playlist is not playlist2,
    etc
except.....you need to leave out the main playlist, Music, from that

Thanks, Michael.  Itunes Match is not enabled on my daughter's Itouch.  I have subscribed to it and have used the service to back up my song purchases.  I merely did a sync via USB (as normal) to her Itouch.  The sync wiped out 85% of the playlists that were on my home computer for the last seveal years.  I have updated her itouch multiple times - both before and after I had subscribed to iTunes Match.  After the last sync to her iTouch, the playlists just disappeared.   My home computer is the main device I use to manage my Itunes library and my playlists.  I am not sure what happened?
BTW - how are you affiliated with Apple?  Are you?  I feel like I have explained the issue pretty clearly, but your responses seem to focus on her iTouch and not my computer, where the playlists are managed.  I want to know how to get the playlists back on my computer.
    Thanks for your help.  Rob

  • Music plays, playlists are there but the song list is empty!?

The strangest things has happened with iTunes 7.3.2 today: all the playlists are there, I can even play the music, but the song list window is totaly empty! How has this happened and what can I do to restore the list?
I've checked the .xml library file and everything seems to be all right in there. I've even tried recreating it but that didn't help.
The last thing I remember doing with iTunes was creating a playlist and burning it as an audio CD.
When I try any kind of operation on the playlists, the iTunes crashes down. When I start it, it normally loads the library as if everything is fine.
When switching between the playlists, I can play each individual playlist but I can't see any content. The song list window is just blank.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? What can be done apart from recreating the whole library from the scratch? There is over 65 GB of music in the library on the external drive.

Problem solved. First I've tried importing from the .xml library file but that didn't help. As a last resort I've re-installed iTunes completely and everything is back to normal now.

  • Why are the songs in my iphone playlists grey and I can't move them.

Why are the songs in my iPhone playlists grayed out.  I am unable to move and organize them.  I just downloaded some audio books from Audible and I cannot moved them to a playlist on my iPhone either.  What step am I missing?

    margielm2 wrote:
So, if I haven't made any albums, I can't move pictures in the main window of the Organizer?
Yes, you can't. The default order in the main window is based on date, ascending or descending when you are in the standard 'thumbnail view'. If you are in 'folder' view, with your folders shown in the left panel, you are shown the pictures in alphabetical order of the file names.
    I haven't created albums yet.
I have so many pictures. I wanted to put all the pictures for each album next to each other so I can find them easily.
It's not difficult to create albums and 'drag' pictures in it. When an album is selected, you can move your pictures around in any order in the main window panel.
Albums are one way of grouping and ordering pictures. You should try to use keywords to organize and retrieve your pictures.
