What plug in or setting is required to edit 4k atomos files on Sony A7S?
Hi,
Testing out the atomos shogun on my A7S that just came in. When I drag the file to my desktop I can view the video file via Quicktime perfectly, but I am wondering what plug in or software update is required for me to drag the file to premiere and edit?
Will I have to upgrade to Premiere CS7?
Download a support plug in?

Someone jump in if I am not recalling what is in FCP5 correctly . . . . but my suggestion would be:
Download Clipwrap (make sure you download the leagacy version for your older OS) at
http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap
They have a free trail offer that will transfer the 1st minute or so of each clip, that should be more than enough to test this before you buy it.
Convert the mts clips to AIC Apple Intermediate Codec. It is not a particularly good codec, but might be the best choice given your hardware. I don't recall what the other available HD codecs are in FCP 5.
Now import the converted clips into FCP, and drop one of them on the timeline. Are you prompted by FCP to match the properties of source clip? If so, say yes. (I don't remember if this feature was on FCP 5 or not, if it does not proimpt you, then you will need to manually match all your Sequence Settings to all your source Item Properties.)
Then you should be good to start editing.

You are looking at over 70,000 or 80,000, could even approach even more.. HD decks run atleast 15k.
If price is not an issue then there you go....
However this is not realistic for most people nor best solution by no means... I run a macbook pro with Avid (as primary) Final Cut 7, Final Cut X (for practice, didn't have to use it for a job yet), and Premiere (just in case)
I am a final cut child who grew up on it and love it however everything I am doing in last few years is on AVID...
Have a second monitor..
I am very portable and rest of the gear I usually get where ever I work at.. I am looking into getting a good broadcast monitor connected with AJA thunderbolt..
Like I said this is very open question, there is no (BEST) it all depends what you will be doing.. If you get AVID (which can do everything, however is cluncky as **** and counter intuitive) but you are only cutting wedding videos and short format stuff, it would be an overkill galore.. Just get FCP X in that case... Simple,easy, one app...

What application should I set to open the Data_Viz Carbon Translator files?
I was looking over the files in my AW application folder. Quite a few say (in Get Info) that they should be opened with a very old OS 9 game application I happen to have. And also the "Kind" is listed as a document for that same game. That's not right. What Application should I select instead? The path to these files is: AppleWorks 6, AppleWorks Essentials, Translators, Data_Viz Carbon, Translators, and then the files. Some examples of these files are AppleWorks SS 5.0, Excel 97, and Word 5.0-Mac Win.
Thanks! I have no idea how long this has been this way.You do not need to open these files directly. They are used by AppleWorks to translate documents from and to other applications, and you can't do anything with them directly. The claim that they can be opened with some game application is simply the Finder not recognizing them and making a wild guess.

I have my all networks at 'Off' status in the system panel, never use Bluetooth either, also in the top status bar, and set as 'require admin password to turn on and off WiFi', but when I turn on my MacBookPro 15" retina newest model only one month old, it goes on to WiFi automatically by itself.
Is this a back door? Security hole?

Also, iTunes was playing music, I don't use iTunes when I'm working. Both were not on before I left for the break.

The programs open tab ( list of programs open on comp) is always popping up on middle of screen whenever I go near the mouse. HELP!!! Have turned it off recently and moved it, a mac mini, now on new plug in and set up it now does it.
Yes I have turned it off and restarted it, ubnplugged mouse and plugged it back in.
Have not updated it in a little bit

You are not on the right track; MD14 and 15 will choose the PLANNED ORDER population for the conversion. In planned orders there's NO PURCHASING ORGANIZATION DATA (normally)!
So even if you managed to put the field on the screen, it will not do anything that makes sense. -
Suddenly my 4 hour setting for requiring password is being ignored. Why?
My display on my MacBook Pro sleeps after 10 minutes. But I have had it set do I don't have keep re-entering the password each time. And I also have it set to never sleep when the lid is open.
My Security & Privacy settings are set to require a password 4 hours after sleep or screen saver begins.
But over the past week every time the display sleeps I have to enter my password again to log back in. Why?

DougThat's something I never would have figured out on my own, that parent paths are a web server setting. The issue does only apply to the ASP includes, not any of the CSS files. I will have to call the web host to see how the server is actually configured. I will also do some testing just out of curiosity if these automatically inserted includes - even the one to the Connections folder are goverened by the site setting where you choose to use root or document relative links.
I've always set my sites to document relative - but is one way better than the other or is it just a preference?
The CC Desktop app is a weird duck. It took some doing to even get the Filters and Versions menu to display - but I'm now downloading DW CS6. I wasn't sure if this list was dependent on what I had had previously installed or not. The menu also didn't seem to display until after I checked Keep CC Manager up to date in preferences - but this could be just that I didn't see the menu before - it showed up to the left of the button area, and my eyesight is very narrow so I could have just not seen it.

There's no direct support for your camera in CS5.
It would require ACR 7.3 or higher, which only work with CS6.
You can download and run the free Adobe DNG Converter 7.4 to convert your raw Canon files to raw DNGs which you can then open in CS5. -

Helps if you tell us what version of Pages and something about the file.
Probably you have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.1 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

depend on what you need or what your security policy says for my lab gear i use 60 minutes. because i know how can access this. if you have gear outside in insecure space set it to a minimum or disable the console. everybody how can access your gear can break in. simple restart and boot w/o config. and you are in.
it realy depends how secure is your space and how much security you need.
and than the settings for policy have to match, what sec do you have if your console login and logout is secure. but when you restart you can simple break in by starting w/o config and than load it.

FILE HANDLING IN SAP
Introduction
Files on application server are sequential files.
Files on presentation server / workstation are local files.
A sequential file is also called a dataset.
Handling of Sequential file
Three steps are involved in sequential file handling
OPEN
PROCESS
CLOSE
Here processing of file can be READING a file or WRITING on to a file.
OPEN FILE
Before data can be processed, a file needs to be opened.
After processing file is closed.
Syntax:
OPEN DATASET <file name> FOR {OUTPUT/INPUT/APPENDING}
IN {TEXT/BINARY} MODE
This statement returns SY_SUBRC as 0 for successful opening of file or 8, if unsuccessful.
OUTPUT: Opens the file for writing. If the dataset already exists, this will place the cursor at the start of the dataset, the old contents get deleted at the end of the program or when the CLOSE DATASET is encountered.
INPUT: Opens a file for READ and places the cursor at the beginning of the file.
FOR APPENDING: Opens the file for writing and places the cursor at the end of file. If the file does not exist, it is generated.
BINARY MODE: The READ or TRANSFER will be character wise. Each time n characters are READ or transferred. The next READ or TRANSFER will start from the next character position and not on the next line.
IN TEXT MODE: The READ or TRANSFER will start at the beginning of a new line each time. If for READ, the destination is shorter than the source, it gets truncated. If destination is longer, then it is padded with spaces.
Defaults: If nothing is mentioned, then defaults are FOR INPUT and in BINARY MODE.
PROCESS FILE:
Processing a file involves READing the file or Writing on to file TRANSFER.
TRANSFER Statement
Syntax:
TRANSFER <field> TO <file name>.
<Field> can also be a field string / work area / DDIC structure.
Each transfer statement writes a statement to the dataset. In binary mode, it writes the length of the field to the dataset. In text mode, it writes one line to the dataset.
If the file is not already open, TRANSFER tries to OPEN file FOR OUTPUT (IN BINARY MODE) or using the last OPEN DATASET statement for this file.
IF FILE HANDLING, TRANSFER IS THE ONLY STATEMENT WHICH DOES NOT RETURN SY-SUBRC
READ Statement
Syntax:
READ DATASET <file name> INTO <field>.

Each READ will get one record from the dataset. In binary mode it reads the length of the field and in text mode it reads each line.
CLOSE FILE:

DELETE FILE:
A dataset can be deleted.
Syntax:

Pseudo logic for processing the sequential files:
For reading:
Open dataset for input in a particular mode.
Start DO loop.
Read dataset into a field.
If READ is not successful.
Exit the loop.
Endif.
Do relevant processing for that record.
End the do loop.
Close the dataset.
For writing:
Open dataset for output / Appending in a particular mode.
Populate the field that is to be transferred.
TRANSFER the filed to a dataset.
Close the dataset.

Checking your list of plugins, a common plugin that you do not have is Java, it may be trying to install that one. You can get it from http://java.com/
