What ports does Xserve usesfor Global range?

I am setting the modem to for ward to global ports range but not sure what the range is.:(

AFAIK, strictly, "modems" don't forward ports. "Modems" and "bridges" are comparatively transparent devices; from the perspective of a network protocol, such electronic devices are largely indistinguishable from the equivalent wiring, for instance. "Modem" devices that provide a combination of modem, firewall and IP router can forward ports. And forwarding all ports through a firewall is usually a bad idea.
Modem: MOdulator-DEModulator. They're at the lowest levels of the classic Seven-Layer Network Model, and below routing and firewalls and such. But I digress.
The typical case is forwarding a select few ports, such as port 80 for http web traffic.
Each port opened through the firewall should be justified, as each port forwarded will be attacked.
Some "modem" devices (those which have firewall and IP routing capabilities) can have something they call "global ports", and that's seemingly how the particular vendor, um, allows the end-user the joy of researching and identifying the protocol-specific ports for the task at hand.
With this scheme, the end-user gets to go look up the ports for the particular service, and fill those in for whatever you're looking to forward.
For forwarding http using port 80, that would be the "global port range" of 80 to 80, for instance.
[Start reading here|http://portforward.com/routers.htm] for your specific "modem" device.
I'm taking a very wild guess here around what you're doing and what you're looking at. If I've guessed wrong, some background, some more words around the goal, and some specific device identifications would be helpful in addressing your question.

  • What port does WRT1900Ac listen on for remote admin

    good morning,
I have had a few problems with linksys smart wifi (periodically cannot connect).
traditionally I run dynDNS so I can connect to devices remotely (using port forwarding) and this works fine for me.
what port does the linksys router itself listen on for remote router admin requests (i.e http://publicipaddress:whatport)
    also, is this configurable?
    thanks

You have to use a Smart Wifi account for remote administration on the WRT1900AC
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

    Hi Jan,
I am sure the Apple Doc is right.
The Doc was originally written for iChat 2 when you could only chat 1-1
Obviously with an eye on the future, and of the potential for the data traffic to get busy in some locations, allows for the extra ports allocation.
If you are in a 4 way Video chat then that would be 16 ports.
Now in iChat 2 Audio chats used to make use of the same four ports. But as 10 way Audio chats are possible it seems likely this has been changed in multichats to use all twenty ports.
    ( I am also sure that 16384-16403 is 20 ports )

We run ACS 3.0 on a windows 2000 sp. 4 server. A nmap scan shows a lot of open ports, e.g. 7/tcp, 9/tcp, 13/tcp, 1050/tcp, and also some udp ports.
Does anyone know what ports the Acs use ?

  • What Ports Does Mail Open, and Why?

    Mavens of Mac Mail Internals,
While trying to debug my lightly-loaded-yet-consumed-by-spinning-beach-balls 27" iMac running OS X 10.8.4...I've observed in Activity Monitor that Mail has 33 threads and 496 ports in use.
    Huh?
Why would Mail possibly need so many ports open? What ports? What kind of ports?
Are all the ports Mail is using the same type of port as 25, 587, or 993...or, is Activity Monitor reporting the system's consumption of another type of port? Or...what?
And...what's typical? How many threads and ports should Mac Mail have running and open at any point in time?
Baseline: My Mail setup is provisioned for 8 GMail mailboxes, 1 Hotmail mailbox, 1 Google Apps (Mail) mailbox, and 1 company mailbox.
Objective: Trying to determine what relationship Mail has, if any, on the increasing number of spinning beach balls infecting my system.
Thanks in advance for your assistance! Much, much appreciated,
    Plane Wryter

    Ahh!
So...Is Activity Montior reporting on the number of open IPC (Inter-process Communication) ports?
    Is that what's going on?
Would this explain why coreaudiod has 1,077 ports open?
If so, any idea as to why? Why does either Mail or Coreaudio need so many internal ports open?
BIG THANKS for the insight and clarification.
    Best,
    Plane Wryter

  • So, what exactly does "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour" mean?

Just got my APEBS-N on Saturday night at the local store and saw the option under Disks/File Sharning for "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour". Does anyone know what this means or what exactly the results will be? Does un-checking it mean that the disk won't be available over the LAN to the machines running the Airport Disk Utility? The same option appears under printers as well.
    MacBook 2.0 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK, well I guess I will have to call...Anyhow, here is the official verbiage from the Apple docs. Notice how it says contact your ISP or Network Administrator for login info? Why would your ISP give you this type of info?
Setting up your base station to use Bonjour
Bonjour, sometimes referred to as zero-configuration networking, is a networking technology that allows devices to automatically discover each other without any configuration, or network setup.
Some versions of the AirPort Extreme Base Station support using Bonjour to advertise services across the Internet. This requires a Dynamic DNS hostname and password you may have received from your Internet service provider (ISP) or network administrator.
Once you have your account information, open AirPort Utility, select your base station in the list, and then enter the base station password if necessary. Click Advanced in the toolbar, and then click Bonjour. Enter the information you received from your ISP or network administrator in the fields provided.
Check with your ISP or network administrator if you need more information about support for Bonjour.

  • What ports to open between Connection broker and Web access hosts

I have setup a 4 node 2008 R2 RDS farm (1 connection broker, 1 Web access, and 2 session hosts.) They were all built from the same image, but the web access and connection broker will not talk to each other. They are all on the same subnet, and ips are x.x.x.200-203 The Web access server can ping the Sesions hosts, the session hosts can ping each other, web access and the connection broker. But the Web access and Connection broker cant ping each other. I turned off the windows firewall and they can ping, and connect... So whats ports does it need open?
     Thanks!

  • What exactly does the global switch command line do ?

    Hello All
Just foraging in the dark world of APP-V. I have a question which I cannot find answer for through google.
There are powershell commands to publish an APP-V application globally. What exactly does the global switch do ?
I understand it makes the application available to everyone on the machine for anyone who logs onto that machine.
However in the absence of this global switch the application is still available to all users who logon to that particular machine. So what exactly is the reason for using the global switch ?
    Thanks

Correct, the global switch makes the application accessable for all users logging on to that system.
This feature is required for some packages, like Office. But it is ofter used for applications used by everyone, like Adobe Reader.
However in the absence of this global switch the application is still available to all users who logon to that particular machine. So what exactly is the reason for using the global switch ?
A package can be added to the system but until it is published a user cannot start it. They won't see any shortcuts in their startmenu/desktop/etc.
So after you added the package to the system, it must be published to a user or globally (every user) to start it.

  • Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following....

    Hi,
I'm attempting to install oracle 10.2.0 on Solaris 10.
When I create a database i get the error:
Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following process(es): .....
So I look at the logs and there looks like to be some configuration issues but i'm not sure where to start.
I've changed the port from NULL to 1521 in listener.ora.
It worried me that it was set to null.
Ive tried running emca -config -all db ( not sure what central agent home should be set it as /app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1 seemed to accept that)
This gives me the same above error.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Please note im both a novice solaris and oracle user
